The service absolutely sucked, but it’s not as bad as the reason why it sucked. A friend and I arrived there in the morning, in fact we were the first ones there, 10 minutes later two Latinos arrive and then another. After 15 minutes passed the waiter decided to give chips and salsa to all except us. I mentioned this to her and without a sorry she denied it all. The food is only as good as the service, and their food is unfortunately crap because of their service.

The taco shop ain’t bad, but the 8 foot grill out front with two locos borrachos, rockin’ full split chickens is superdope. Definitely has familiarity of being in Mexico right here in the barrio, minus the hellcious line at the border and the annoying men with whistles pouring recycled«tequil-aid» down your eager mouth. Cure that Mexico itch while maintaining your rights in the US. If the itch persists, see a Tijuana Doctor, stat. ‘Rico’ is pretty cheap too, I think you can get a half of a bird, rice/beans/tortillas for under $ 6 – 7. Go for the house made salsa, stay for the grilled jalapenos with salt & lime. Tortilleria Gabriel is right next door too, so while you’re at it grab a fresh pack’o’corns for a grillout at your house later.

WE were looking for the Churros El Tigre cart but found this instead. We loved the beef tacos and shrimp burrito. Sadly, they were closed the midweek last week when we decided to come back for more, wonder why.

I was lured into this place by the grilling outside on weekends. I’m a total gringo, but I like good tacos and the like. I usually like hot hot sauce, but theirs was a little too hot for me! The green salsa had an unusual neon green color to it and I think there may have been avocado in the salsa. Great chicken tacos — I’ll be back.

At Tacos El Rico, it’s all about the grill. I get a half a chicken from here a few times a week and split it with my roomate. We’re totally full, and very satisfied for a grand total of $ 8. Your $ 8 gets you half a BBQ’d chicken, rice, beans, tortillas, salsas AND a grilled onion! Very good food, and plenty of it. As for the rest of the food there, it’s good, not epic. My friend loves the Gorditas, but I’ve never had them. Tacos El Rico is in Barrio Logan, which is a pretty cool little Mexican neighborhood. Right next door is a tortilla factory(they also have Mexican Coke there, for those that like the real deal). I took my roomate here after he got back from 2 months in Mexico… It was like slowly reintroducing him to the US, LOL… Bottom line; go there, split a half chicken with a friend, enjoy…

Went here as a random try after eating at El Fachado. BIGMISTAKE! No comparison. I had the carnitas taco and the meat wasn’t juicy or tasteful and I wasn’t impressed with the totillas. The BF tried the mulita to see how it compared to El Fachado. Not even close. Their BBQ grill makes them more interesting. The smell of meat cooking on an open grill will always catch my attention. So I ordered the ribs to go. For $ 13 you get half a slab of ribs, rice, beans and tortillas with two types of salsa. Not bad for the price. They also make their own BBQ sauce which isn’t too bad. The ribs were very flavorful, maybe even a little salty. The chicken looked really good but I don’t know that I was impressed enough to go back.

Clean, shiny, passable. This stretch on Imperial has some great eats, which makes El Rico very unremarkable. I haven’t tried a lot of their extensive mariscos menu but it hasn’t struck me as worth getting worked up about. Ethan tells me he tried their fish taco and was underwhelmed. One thing I think is kind of nice is that they sell gorditas, something not too many places(outside of Taco Bell) seem to sell around here. Gorditas are basically tacos with thick tortillas, stuffed with the usual goods and often swimming in sour cream. I used to get gorditas from a little place on 30th, but it went out of business. Gorditas at Tacos El Rico aren’t bad either. Just not great. Do yourself a favor and try one of the smaller, chromeless restaurants up or down the street.
