The food was great but a little pricey. It was $ 64 for 4 people to eat breakfast. The waitress was very nice and service and food was delivered quickly. We would eat there again.

This was a fantastic spot for some great down home breakfast. Food was well seasoned, good portions, and the atmosphere was very much your typical coffee house. Service was very accommodating as the helped my father with his dietary needs without issue. Great place when here in SD!

Eggs overlooked Cheapest bacon they could find(mostly fat). Toast had a tiny dab of butter on it. It’s clean and lots on the menu. EXPENSIVE for the quality(Denny’s is better and cheaper). Staff is pushy; one came and asked if I was done with my plate while I had my fork in it getting a bite of waffle. Waitress was pushy — seamed too eager to get us out the door for the next guest. They never brought me my water. Took forever to get coffee refill. NOTIPFORYOU !!! Bunkcacadoodle !!

The Broken Yolk use to be a great place to go eat for a great price. Now they’ve raised their prices up $ 3-$ 4.00 for everything. $ 12.95-$ 14.00 for an omelet is just ridiculous! On a bright note the staff is always pleasant and try their best to give you good service. The food is still good just be prepared to pay a hefty amount for it. Enjoy!

Came here this morning for a quick breakfast before we went on our adventures. Were greeted and seated right away. Very nice and friendly staffs. All of them waited on us. I ordered the short stack combo and my husband got the South of the Border benedict. Both were delicious. Pancakes were fluffy and huge. Very moist and flavorful too. Eggs benedicts was very delicious. Eggs were poached nicely. The hollandaise sauce was a bit on the lemony side but still very tastey. It went very well with the avocado actually. Overall, great place for a hearty and delicious breakfast. Must try!

Good service and great food. Gets busy, and parking can be a challenge. A family favorite, definitely would recommend. French toast and border omelet are delicious.

That was a really bad breakfast. I had the No Name Omelet. This was the last breakfast we had before moving out of San Diego. Pretty disappointing. The mushrooms and inside were undercooked and the outside tasted rubbery. I thought it was the morning sickness but when my husband took a bite, his response was«yeah. Don’t eat that.» The waitress came to the table twice to take our orders. Someone else would bring out the drinks and food. And we had to flag her down to get the check. The only good thing about the experience was the fact that we didn’t have to wait for a table. But, bleh. Never again.

We don’t do the Denny’s/ihop thing anymore. Broken Yolk is our spot! Biscuits and gravy is all I ever get but everything is good. There is manager here wish I knew his name. Older gentlemen with glasses tall, always checking make sure me and my girlfriend are taken care of. Last time we needed more gravy he went and got it for us instead of telling the waiter, good manager! I will continue to frequent this spot!

Broken yolk Seated right a right away30−40% capacity Took 10 seconds for coffee 4 min for waiter to come first time 8min exactly order to table Had golden state Benedict, Ham better than tomato in my opinion, stick to original. Also had yogurt parfait, served in red wine glass, layers easy to see, fresh fruit, overall great presentation and taste. Waitress Gave me check w/o asking how it was or if I wanted anything else, clearly rushed, no individual attention Time done till cleared 1:35. Paid w/Amex, waitress returns w/card, pen, and checks, says nothing puts it on the table and walks away. Bad service, not happy, which is a shame because their food wasn’t bad, a little different then I’m used to but not bad like the waitress. She left a sour taste in my mouth and her lack of tip reflected that. Food: good Service: bad Rating 2 stars

Came around 10am on Saturday to Point Loma location. Fairly busy but not crowded. Food was ready very quickly. Great food portions, I can never finish it all. Chilaquiles were ok. Sauce was thick. Beans are delicious. Try the French Toast with orange juice, it was one of my favs!

Broken Yolk Café is essentially one of the well known«brunch» spots to be in. For a tex-mex breakfast restaurant i believe that the food is pretty decent for the price you pay for. For location: Decently located near the point loma area. I consider this a place tourists could come to eat if they want to try a local«famous» brunch chain. Appeal: Great place if you want to hang with friends or are a tourist ready to take on a Man VS. Food Challenge. «Ironman Eating Challenge». Food: You get what you pay for. A fusion of American and mexican brunch with big portions and variety of sides.

In general, I really enjoy Broken Yolk and this three star review probably doesn’t reflect the restaurant as a whole. Instead, the three stars is based on their lunch, which I’m assuming isn’t Broken Yolk’s strong point as the majority of the menu is breakfast. My boyfriend and I stopped by Broken Yolk after I picked him up from the airport on Sunday. We had intended to go to Divine Pastabilities but were forced to change course when we realized they were closed on Sundays. We noticed Since Broken Yolk is in the same parking lot, we decided to check it out for lunch. It was past noon and neither of us were feeling like breakfast so we chose two sandwiches instead. I decided to try the Gaslamp, which is turkey, provolone, avocado, lettuce, tomato, sprouts(which I omitted) and mayo on toasted sourdough. I also asked for the avocado on the side because I knew that I wouldn’t be able to eat the whole sandwich and day-old avocado is gross. I also asked for some mustard to add to the sandwich. The sandwich was good but nothing spectacular. Just a basic turkey sandwich. However, I took the second half home and added some pesto and transformed my leftovers into a delicious sandwich. Pesto makes everything better! My boyfriend ordered the Vegetarian, which has avocado, sprouts, cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo and subbed the whole wheat for sourdough. He’s difficult to please with veggie sandwiches but thought the sprouts helped set this one apart and said it was very good. For me, the biggest disappointment was the crinkle-cut fries. Is it really that difficult to get higher quality fries? Crinkle cut reminds me of elementary school cafeteria fries and there’s nothing impressive about that. Even the ranch dressing was blah and tasted more like Hidden Valley than delicious restaurant-quality ranch. I’ll come back to Broken Yolk again but I think I’ll stick to the breakfast side of the menu.

I came here a few months ago and enjoyed the food and had a very pleasant experience and attentive waiter. So while we were in the area checking to see if Kobey’s might be open on Thanksgiving day(they weren’t) I asked my Wife if she wanted to try the Broken Yolk for the first time. Sure enough we pulled up and moseyed on in. Held the door open for what looked like a Stripper finishing her shift down the street, then my Wife and Daughter caught up and we all entered together. Greeted by a nice Gentleman with a great smile and a Cowboy jersey(hey, nobody’s perfect) who seated at a great table. Busboy showed up immediately for the drink orders. Coffee, water, and Chocolate Milk for the kids. He brought all the drinks out with the quickness, before our waiter even got to us. Getting the kids situated with crayons, placemats, and chocolate milk, we didn’t even get to look at the menu for a few minutes. The Waiter came through, and we ordered for all four of us. The food came out within 10 minutes. I ordered the Golden State Benedict w/hashbrowns. They were pretty good, I recommend breaking the yolk right away so that it runs into the hollandaise sauce; they taste great together with the avocado and bacon. The eggs were cooked well, and the English Muffin wasn’t hard, it was soft enough to be cut with a fork easily. The Sriracha sauce complimented it all very well. The hashbrowns came out really good, and even taste great mixed in with all the ingredients from the Benedict. My Wife liked her Stuffed French Toast enough. Nothing too special here, just a whole lot of bananas and mascarpone. I tasted it, it might as well have been a plate of bananas as that is all I could taste. The Wife ate it all though. She ordered an Orange Juice and a side of hashbrowns as well. The hashbrowns were just as good as mine, but not $ 3.59 good. The OJ came in a narrow glass, hardly a few drinks. For this were charged $ 4.50? Bad call, we should have paid more attention to the menu when ordering. The kids both got Pancake plates w/scrambled eggs. My Son got bacon, my Daughter got sausage. They love them some swine in the morning. They both ate all their eggs, which were better than average. The pancakes were OK, the kids ate half of them. The bacon was good, but the sausage was great. The service was pretty good, especially that Busboy, who didnt allow my Coffee or water see the bottom of the glass once. Coffee was good too, quite smooth. The place was clean and our seats were comfortable. The only real complaint I have is the $ 50 bill. I knew it would be a little pricey to come here, and we weren’t too surprised by the price. We just think that we didnt get $ 50 worth. Oh well, we paid and tipped well anyways. Hope the Busboy got some of that.

The service was top notch and very prompt compared to the only other Broken Yolk I’ve been to in the South Bay. I came in after seeing a pic of their messy caramel latte online. I ordered it and it was«alright.» It’s something similar to a Starbucks drink. It didn’t taste like anything that’s hand crafted. For my meal, I ordered the Californian Omelette(comes with home fries and cheese wrapped inside) with a side of Mexican Rice. The food itself was filling but it was nothing extraordinary. I read a review from a fellow Unilocaler(Shelby M.) who pretty much nailed it saying«nothing is exceptionally good» and that there is nothing«trendy or interesting» creativity wise. I concur. Total tab was about $ 20.

The broken Yolk is where you go Sunday morning when you want a bottle of champagne and a breakfast you know will be good. Nothing is exceptionally good, its always packed, there is always a wait, and its a noisy restaurant. I’ve been going to all the broken yolk locations for years, my favorite being Garnet Ave. Good pricing on good food. Nothing trendy and no interesting creations. There south of the border menu section is my favorite to order from! Good place for group breakfast, they are very accommodating.

I’ve driven by this location and the location in Mission Valley hundreds of times so it was finally time I stop in and see what they’re all about. Nice atmosphere, home-style décor and an enjoyable meal were what I was greeted with. I didn’t give them 5 stars bc I didn’t experience the restaurant when they were busy so I wasn’t able to see how they operate under pressure. We got in before 8am & their breakfast entrees were only $ 6.95 so I opted for the French toast w/sausage. Service was quick and the meal was simple which I imagine is why it’s their ‘breakfast special’ but it’s all I needed and I enjoyed every bite. My friend got their pancakes which were HUGE! Being that it was a Tuesday morning, they weren’t crowded at all so it was nice that my 1st experience was a quiet one where we were tended to promptly. They even offered us seating outside but we chose to stay indoors. Skimming through their menu, I found a few items that I want to try(breakfast tacos, tiki toast, moms omelette) so I know I’ll be back although I’m not sure about coming on the weekends as I’ve seen the lines of people outside their doors on Sat & Sunday mornings… not my cup of tea. I don’t think I’ll ever be going to an IHOP or Denny’s anymore as The Broken Yolk has stolen their place on my list. Cheers!

Very sad to say, my son & I will not go here ever again! The food is still good but the waiters and waitresses are TERRIBLE! And I usually will just brush off inferior service, generally, But after SEVERALTIMES of lackluster, inattentive dining here, I had to conclude that it is just better to drive over to Pacific Beach or go into Mission Valley. The problem seems to be that whoever owns this particular Broken Yolk hires his in-laws or his cousins or his extended family from South of the Border WHOKNOWNOTHING about good service. The worst one is a man who works on Thursdays only & seems to DELIGHT in getting your order wrong. I have ONEREQUEST: Please no brown on my omelet or hash browns. I DONOTCAREFORBURNEDFOOD! How hard is that to get right? Well, I asked this fellow to please advise the cooks in espanol to cook my food lightly. I guess that offended him so he brings it out BURNT to a crisp! I should have known better then to never go back. But unfortunately, my son’s day off from work is Thursday so we forgot about this idiot waiter & innocently returned a few weeks later to get the same culinary abuse ALLOVERAGAIN. This time the bad waiter brought my food out in a to-go container, when my son & I were sitting inside the place eating breakfast. The manager saw me eating from a styrofoam plate & came over to inquire. I let him know that I am ashamed to have given his place 5 Unilocal Stars when they opened because they surely have no idea how to offer hospitality to customers. Yes, my meal was comped but I would have preferred it DONERIGHTINTHEFIRSTPLACE! Be advised: Do NOT expect any kind of excellent service here.(The only decent person appears to be a very friendly host who works at the front cash register.) I begged my son to try the Midway Broken Yolk one last time(On A WEDNESDAY!) We had a very nice blond lady waitress who kept calling me «hon.» It seemed likely that maybe our string of bad luck perhaps had been broken? I asked for my «LIGHTLYCOOKEDOMELET»(no brown!) and what did I get – a charred at the edges brown egg with burned hash browns! My son ate his Breakfast Burrito while I WAITEDYETAGAIN for my food to be cooked to order. Good luck to customers who try and get what they want at this place.

This is my go-to breakfast spot when visiting my bestie in San Diego. Having been here a handful of times now I can tell you that the food is above average(hello omelets!), service is on point, and they serve mimosas by the carafe for $ 10. Uh huh you read that right. That ends up being four full glasses for $ 10. Done and done… especially after getting off a sardine can Southwest flight! They have ample outdoor seating, but parking here can be a pain. Service on a weekday is super attentive. And you’re blessed if you get Andre — the friendliest waiter I have ever seen. I want to have a little of whatever he’s having to be that enthusiastic at 10am. Come here for brunch on Sunday and you’ll likely have a 45 min wait.

I think I have to give this 3.5 stars. I just can’t bring myself to rate it higher! We’ve been down on The Broken Yolk since visiting the downtown location a year or so ago. We were both so underwhelmed by the food and service that the desire to go back was never very strong. But, we were feeling adventurous one Saturday morning, and decided to give this one a try. Right off the bat, I will say that parking is a nightmare. It doesn’t seem like it would be, since the lot — shared with several other businesses — is large and open, but we literally had to park at the other end and walk over. Not a huge deal for us, but there were people camped out in their cars, waiting for a closer spot like their lives depended on it. Despite the fact that the lot was so full, we were shown to a table right away. Almost immediately after sitting down, we were asked for our drink order, and two cups of coffee appeared in front of us a heartbeat later. Our waitress came by a bit after that to take our order(Border Benedict with hash browns — crispy on both sides! — for me, and the 27 Miles South omelet with beans for the hubs, plus a side order of bacon for us to share, because bacon). Sitting back to wait, I noticed that the people responsible for cleaning our section were incredibly efficient. They pounced on those vacated tables almost as soon as the patrons got up, and had them cleaned and turned around in no time. I guess that’s why they didn’t have people waiting — efficient staff lets you get more butts in chairs. Our food came out pretty quickly, which you all know I appreciate. I was impressed by the look of my Benedict(which was a mound of carne asada meat atop sweet corn cakes, covered with poached eggs and poblano sauce). I was also underwhelmed by the soggy hash browns that accompanied them. Crispy on both sides, I begged! So yeah — I was impressed by my Benedict… until I got to the eggs. Let me say — their tag line may just be, «We’ve got huevos!», but that doesn’t mean they know how to cook them. I seem to have the worst luck with poached eggs in restaurants. I don’t know if it’s the chef who just can’t gauge doneness, or if it’s left too long to sit under a heating lamp once it’s been plated, but I usually end up with eggs that are cooked over-hard, not poached. As was the case here. The rest of the benny was tasty, though the meat was a bit tough. The sweet corn cakes were delicious(those are harder to mess up though, aren’t they?) My husband enjoyed his omelet, as well — at least, I’m assuming he did, because I heard no complaints out of him. The side of bacon was a joke, and a waste of money. I don’t know what I was expecting(something like what Fig Tree Café set down in front of us, maybe?), but these strips were tiny and sad and way too greasy. Overall, I’d give a higher rating to the staff, and a lower rating to the food. It wasn’t terrible — certainly not the worst meal I’ve ever had — but I want a breakfast place — a breakfast place that incorporates eggs in their logo and tag line! — to know how to cook eggs properly. I know, I’m super picky like that.
