This is definitely the best sushi spot in OB! Fish is always sooooo fresh and I love the atmosphere! They have some beautiful chandeliers and the sushi chefs are super nice! I love love love all their sashimi specials and all of their specialty hand rolls! The tempura is AMAZING too.

The joint is my favorite place in San Diego for happy hour and I make sure to go there every time I am in town. I love the rainmaker hand roll! The last time I went, however, wasn’t as good of an experience. Tina was our server and she was absolutely awful! I’ve never had a server be as rude as she was. I’ll be back for sure but will be requesting to be sat as far away from her section as physically possible!

What a fantastic place to eat. Such a diverse menu for any pallet. From amazing sushi rolls(recommend the train reck), tapas, and perfectly cooked burgers they have you covered. Great beer list & specials

Guys, go eat the Fiery Scallops roll right now. Whatever you’re doing, go eat it. It’s not overwhelmingly spicy — just enough of a kick to be fun — and the scallops are practically creamy they’re so good. It’s my new favorite roll here. Amazeballs.

The breakfast was excellent. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Prices were good given proximity to the beach.

Stopped by for lunch with my friend and sat and chatted for a couple hours over green tea, spicy edamame and three sushi rolls. The service was a little slow for not being crowded but we were not in a hurry and content catching up and taking our time today. The lemon basil salmon roll was FABULOUS! Perfect citrus and fresh fish combination for a refreshing and delicious bite. The Rasta roll with spicy tuna was also really good and a little more substance to go with the smaller, lighter taste of the salmon roll. The spicy edamame was okay, a little oil and next time will go for the sea salt option instead. Newly located to Ocean Beach and excited to have this spot just a few blocks down! Definitely check it out. Great date spot, good for small groups, catching up with a buddy, or sit solo and hang out at the sushi bar and make some new friends. Great place!

The uni shooters are the bomb today and the experience is always extra spectacular with fantastic beers and ales on tap to complete the offering. The best therapy for you and the ones you love at an exceptional price.

Came here only for this cool seasonal chicken sandwich. Was great, but really pricey. One time thing. Staff was nice. Might go back if taken on a date there :)

What a great place! The specialty rolls are fresh and delicious! We had the Rasta Roll and Bombalicious Roll. The Poke salad was fantastic. It was a generous portion of tuna! Lastly, you have to start with the spicy edamame was outstanding.

We stumbled upon this place by accident on our first night living in OB and it will readily turn into our local sushi spot. The menu is extensive and usually I shy away from«sushi» places that have burgers and sandwiches on their menus but somehow it works here. We started with miso soup and this is one of the better ones I’ve had, love the big pieces of seaweed. Then we shared the Peruvian ceviche which was light, fresh, and full of flavor. For our mains I had a Joint roll: soft shell crab and other bits with a soy wrap. It was perfect! Well-sized and flavored, I would order again. The boyfriend got a chicken dish and basically licked his plate so clearly he liked it! Overall we really enjoyed everything: good service, good food, good ambiance. One thing to note, they can’t serve alcohol outside so your patio seating will be dry.

we were told on two seperate occasions to try The Joint and can see why. We came on a Wednesday at around 3 so we’re lucky to catch happy hour and the Wednesday weekly farmers market. We were pleasantly surprised with a Unilocal check in gift of a $ 1 sake bomb which was delicious. They also have $ 3 drafts Wednesday during the time we were there. The blackboards above the bar informed us that there are plenty of deals and offerings going on just about everyday. We were impressed to see that on Saturday and Sunday brunch, they offer bottles of champagne with OJ for only $ 7. Count me in! We tried the hangover roll, the crunchy roll, the joint hand roll(happy hour special) and the truffle fries. Everything was really good. I am usually not a fan of hand rolls but the soy wrap on the joint hand roll was perfect! The hangover roll had really great flavor but is deep fried and really filling. Their truffle fries were really good and served with a yummy dipping sauce. I can imagine that all the food would be just as good. Jim, one of the sushi chefs was awesome! Made some killer sushi, kept us company and made us feel welcome at the Joint!

nom nom nom, this place is tasty. I was a little sketched out at first because their tag line says«sushi and tapas,» two things I wouldn’t ever think go together but this place delivers. Came here for happy hour with a friend and sat at the sushi bar. The waitress was attentive and was patient with us as we looked over the menu. The menu is huge! They have an extensive beer and wine list as well as a regular menu and happy hour menu. They have a rotating $ 3.50 beer on Happy Hour special that changes frequently. Ended up ordering The Joint roll, king salmon nigiri, regular salmon nigiri, shrimp tempura roll, the Rain Maker hand roll, and a pulled pork sandwich. The salmon nigiri was on HH for $ 3 for 2 pieces; shrimp tempura roll on HH was $ 5; Rain Maker on HH for $ 4.50; pulled pork sando must have been on HH as well but I can’t remember. Reasonable prices and all fresh! The Joint Roll was a little spicy for my taste, but then again in a wimp when it comes to spicy. We also ordered the chocolate crème brûlée with Heath Bar ice cream.(They also have a rotating dessert menu). For some reason the dessert took the longest and when we go it, the ice cream was half melted… pretty disappointing :-( Overall this place is great! Décor is a different but cool.

Crispy chicken, my gosh… incredible!!! Everthing here is delicious, I must say! I remember when this was The Village Kabob in 2008, and I was trying to get my coffee guy to by this business out do something similar to the Joint but with craft biers, sushi, Noodles and Salads. Never the less these fellas came a long ways to improve it, pick a catchy name, and add character to a corner in OB that was lackluster.

There is a time in ones life when sushi is all a person can think about. However there is also a time when money is also present, not because there is enough but because there isn’t. I have to take 2 stars off simply because the prices are exaggerated. I have to say I thoughg5 about my rating long and hard. If the prices were similar to others than I’m sure this place would have been a 5. A california roll is 7 dollars here. I tried it out and I wasnt too impressed. You know people like and dislike food because of tasye, however texture plays a big part in it. You open a entire different factor when you start adding different textures to plates. This is almost always more enjoyable. The california roll … it was all mushy. Thats the easiest way to explain it. It had everything a california roll should have including cucumber. The cucumber is suppose to be crunchy right? Its suppose to add texture, this one didnt, it was old and became soggy. Nothing amazing about the california roll. Why should someone pay more for something when you can get exactly the same at a lower price somewhere else? I have a theory. My theory is: service, setting, experience. This is one of the nicest restaurants ive been to. The paintings are amazing and not to mention the AMAZING ceiling. The place is dimly lit and surrounded with dark colors, it adds into a nice mellow mood. The service is really great too. you feel welcomed here. We had the pleasure of having jamie as our waitress. Shes great! I used a check in offer for $ 1 warm small sake, and she helped me finish it. She was so nice she even got me a second sake for free! Give it a shot I would say.

This has been a good eating weekend for me and I started it at The Joint in OB. First of all, I can’t believe it took me so long to eat at this place. I remember when it was opening and my dad actually did all the HVAC work on the joint. But anyways so Friday I finally go for a friends birthday. And let’s cut to the chase. Everything I had was extremely exceptional. We got a few rounds of sake and 1 round on the house(thank you!) My friend and I decided to order a few things and share everything. First we ordered the spicy edamame which was awesome! The edamame was cooked perfectly and the seasonings was awesome! Spicy but not too spicy! Then we ordered the shrimp and grits which was soooo good! The shrimp were fresh, crunchy and soft, and flavorful! The grits were home style and buttery and complimented the shrimp perfectly! Next came the tuna tataki which was my favorite dish by far! The tuna was fresh and thinly sliced and perfectly matched with ponzu sauce and garlic! We finally ordered the hamachi citrus roll which was huge and delicious! The fish was fresh and the lemon was sweet and sour. This place has such a huge menu I can’t wait to go back again and again and again! The joint is the definition of «you get what you pay for» although I don’t think it’s pricey compared to how good everything is. Maybe people could say the rolls are pricey but they are also HUGE! In quantity and size. Another thing that made the meal was the customer service! Our server was very attentive and nice! The bartender came with a round on the house for my friends bday, and the manager(or might have been the owner) Abe my other friend a quick chop stick lesson and chatted for a while! We loved it! I will be back again and again and again!!!

Disclosure: This place is getting an extra star for $ 2.50 Sculpins. Enough said for my craft beer loving friends and followers. I had walked past this place a few hundred times and never contemplated eating here. It just didn’t look clean enough to be serving sushi. Dirty looking taco shops are one thing, but I’m not trying to mess around with raw fish. Fast forward, looked a little cleaner and a friend really wanted sushi. We went in and the service was slow, the servers were not polite or working together. It took at least 30 minutes to get a beer. Decided to start with the artichoke dip, over priced and mediocre tasting I really wanted some spice. The struggle was real as we waited I hopes to get someone’s attention. Finally the super busy chef hooked it up. Service was so bad we got the check after that. Not the OB vibe and welcome you’d expect on Newport. I’ll go back to just passing by.
