Unbelievably horrible explanation regarding the quality and size of their tiles. When we bought samples from them there was a wide variation in size and color, which in turn caused a problem when planning our stairs and accent areas. When we tried to return our tiles we were told that variations would occur. While understandable, a variation of up to ¼ inch per tile creates a problem when building stair risers and the width of each stair step. Fast forwarding a bit, I was able to procure tiles from a different vendor, all cut correctly, with little to no variance in size and/or thickness. Regardless, we felt a 10% restocking fee should have been waived in light of the tile variance, the extenuating circumstances and in the spirit of good customer service. What we got was a lot of argumentative and sometimes confrontational behavior from the sales reps in the store, to the point that I said to hell with the restocking fee, I’ll never do business with you again & in addition air my grievance out on Unilocal! It was like being a kid in a candy store here… what an insane selection and gorgeous pieces! Plus they had plenty of great options on sale and a super friendly, customer-oriented staff. Look no further if you’re seeking specialty tiles… 110% worth the trip!

I ordered cobalt blue 4.25 inch talavera tile from these folk twice, once back in 2007 and again in 2014 when we had our kitchen remodeled. The newer tiles I ordered are much thinner, less concave, more uniform in size and color with minimal crazing. Like my order in 2007, they were well packaged when shipped however a few bullnose pieces had been chipped. Since my kitchen wasn’t being completely remodeled, I had some of the old tiles already installed and was adding a newer version of that tile to the addition. The newer tiles, in my opinion, lacked the irregularities and hand crafted look of the older version despite the improvements to the quality. I had little time in which to complete this project since it was for a rental property in the Virgin Islands and moved ahead with the installation despite the differences. I inquired about these changes to customer service and spoke to a number of people at Tierra Y Fuego. They were very responsive and concerned about my satisfaction with their product. I didn’t expect this but they offered me a full refund. I spoke with Linda and told her that they didn’t have to do this but she insisted and wanted to make sure I was happy. Thank you!!! I love how they care about their product and take the time to listen to their customers! I know I’ll be placing more orders with them in the future.

Same high price(for bullnose) only this time without the handcrafted look. Back in 2008 I ordered colbalt blue Talvera tile and was wonderfully pleased with the depth of color and crackle finish. Each tile had a slight variation in size and color which added to the character and authentic hand made look. i recently ordered more of the same tile as part of a kitchen expansion. I experienced great customer service and speedy shipment and had no doubts as to the quality based on my experience with the company. When the tile was unwrapped it was noticably thinnner with five bullnose pieces having small chips. It was well packed so im not sure why this happened. The tile had more uniform size and color and lacked depth and the crackling(i was assured that this would happen after they were layed by customer service when I called them). The only explination i got for the change was the number of complaints they received from the lack of uniformaty. Like saltillo, i thought that you looked for variation in mexican tile. They seem like a good company and I hope that their other tile has a uniqueness which seperates it from so many other companies which churn out product in mass production. Ive included a couple pics which hopefully illustrate the difference.

I am OBSESSED with Talavera Tiles. So needless to say I was ecstatic to find Tierra y Fuego online. I am also cheap, so their prices are enticing. I give them 5 stars for 1. The variety of tiles 2. Competitive prices(including the shipping and tax) 3. Prompt delivery 4. Excellent Customer Service. I really had my heart set on one piece in the outlet section. I ordered it and after paying was told they had sold out. Mild chest pain and a few tears shed then onwards. They have ALOT in stock to choose from. Regardless, I looked at stores in East LA(Pricing the same tiles about 20−30% higher), especially the 2X2($ 1 each). I went to OC… even higher! So back to the website. When I ordered my pieces, they were literally here within three days, no expedited service. I begrudgingly paid for delivery(my hairbrained plot was to drive to SD to save the $ 60 = one gas of tank). When I received and opened them, I realized why. They are pristinely packed. Lastly, and most importantly, they really helped me out. I am working under a tight budget. When they ran out of the discontinued piece that I already paid for, they called me and worked with me. Linda, was especially helpful. We sat and went through all the pieces over the phone and once I selected the one I want she price matched it due to compensate for running out of the original tiles. I am grateful and will be shopping with them again next time I buy tiles.

This place has an excellent selection. Ricardo was very helpful and patient with my questions and in assisting to find a match for my needs. Worth a drive and my advise is to look at options here before you commission your contractr to go ahead with the work.

A beautiful store with super friendly and knowledgable attendants. While the location of the store is perhaps not the most convenient, the selection alone is well worth the drive. I was personally impressed by the availability of the tiles in sizes ranging from 1“x1″ to 6“x6″ which was a huge plus for our project. The pricing is too very affordable.

I’ve been working on a few tiling projects around the house and needed to get some tiles. I found Tierra y Fuego on Unilocal and headed on down to their showroom. I was blown away by the selection of Mexican and Spanish style tiles. The prices are very reasonable(although you will get even lower prices if you go to TJ — but who wants the driving/parking/border-wait hassle? The best part of my two visits has been the excellent service. The employees are creative, knowledgable, and polite. A great shopping experience.

Very impressed with this place and am happy with the tile I bought here. I know it’s probably half the price a few miles away in TJ but shopping here saves you the 3 hour border wait. I was happy about the check in here as it scored me 4 free tiles! I bought 40 lbs of the broken tiles to do mosaics and I’m really happy with the colors/patterns I received. There is a huge selection here and it made me want to turn my house into a Mexican tile casita. I liked the showroom and the ladies that worked there are very helpful and friendly.

Update: if you go to Tijuana, you end up paying a ¼ for most items. But I have to give it to them: they do have an increadible selection.

Tierra Y Fuego(also known as MexicanTiles. com) offers an amazing selection of tiles that you can’t get anywhere else locally! If you live in a Spanish-style home, this is the only place in San Diego to get real Malibu tile right off the shelf. We’ve been down to their shop 9 – 10 times over the course of two bathroom remodels and their staff has been extremely helpful and accommodating to us each time. Talia and/or Ruben has assisted us each time and they’re very pleasant to work with … and patient with our working and reworking of ideas. One bit of advice: take the 125 South to get there. Super easy and less aggravation!

This place is awesome! Gigantic selection of Mexican/Spanish inspired tiles, ranging from the hand-made rustic Mexcican Talavera style to the more polished look of the California Spanish Revival tiles. Whether you’re looking for a few tiles as accent pieces or enough to cover an entire floor, hand painted sinks, even copper bathtubs, this place is for you. I drove out to the store which might be out of the way for many people, but for me it was definitely worth it. So many tiles and ideas! And I even picked up a cool calavera couple tile in the clearance section. The store is very organized, the prices were considerably less than other chain and outlet tile stores I’ve gone to the past few months. All the employees were very helpful with any questions I had as well.

Amazing, affordable selection of decorative Mexican tile. We used their tiles as accents to punch up our patio.
