As a band, we often stop in for well crafted cocktails and pinball. Can’t go wrong at Tony’s.

So I want to start off by saying, Ethan and«Brando» we’re awesome. There are a lot of Bars in SD and they all give decent service, atmosphere and drinks. I walked into Tony’s last night with a friend and we both were blown away by level of attention and customer service that was given. They were both personable and friendly, they even went out of their way to look in the back for the type of tequilla I wanted, with a smile! I could tell they both got along wonderfully and that they enjoyed their jobs. I will totally come back here. Thanks Ethan and Brando for making me want to come back and grab another drink!

I didn’t think this place would be for me because its a windowless room with 70’s styled wood walls but I actually really like this place! They have a friendly staff, big buck hunter, and good drinks. A couple of pool table and a back«patio» thing as well. Check it out if you like dives and friendly people.

A little dingy and divey. Couple of pool tables and games. Dim and cool on a hot day.

My friends and I from college were on a mission to find strawberry daiquiris and we found them here! They were the only place! Ethan was wonderful and nicely dressed! He’s the man to see on Newport!

a reasonable priced drink, in a smaller venue. 2 pool tables. easy people watching through the smokey glass front windos. Security guys always freindly.

Hey… it’s a bar and… it’s air conditioned. 5 stars baby, 5 stars. Brother and I walking around Ocean Beach dragging our asses to and fro. Went inside antique shop. Was hot. Woman behind register says, «you guys just need a beer». Walk a few more shops away, step inside here and they gots A/C. That’s it.

Stopped in here this past weekend, smelled like rotting cheese and the glasses were dirty. I Saw the bartender drop his wash cloth on the floor, picked it up and wiped the bar. Now onto the crowd. The crowd seemed very young, even for a beach. Don’t they have carding laws out here. I watched the door guy let people in without checking a single ID. And when he did, he would check one and let the whole group in. If your looking for a shady bar, this is the place. I’ve never seen it this bad. Makes sense, the service is terrible, but you can drink if your underage and the word is out. My recommendation, train your staff correctly and lose the goofy manager that acts like he’s lost a few billion brain cells partying with his patrons.

They turned me away at the door because I was wearing my bathing suit. Bouncer said I had to go put some clothes on. This is bullshit. We are in a beach town and I just came from having a great time at the beach and wanted a drink. Especially pissed me off because I know this bar has a reputation for being a skeezy biker bar where oldsters and broke people hang out. How are you gonna turn down a young beautiful girl in a bathing suit at the door? that’s some bullshit.

My friends and I enjoy coming here regularly. It’s a chill, calm environment. Jim the bartender always takes a moment to chit chat with us and not I mention, the drinks are amazing. The almond joy martinis are super tasty. Very welcoming place to just relax and drink.

Checked this place out during their happy hour with $ 2 well drinks. It’s a nice space with two pool tables in the back, and friendly bouncers. I loved the skylight that reminded me that the sun was still shining in this beach town dive. Might have to update my review if I check it out on a weekend night.

The place is nice. It has pool and a lot if space. We went there on Valentine’s day so it was a bit empty. BUT the bartender is sadly, a bit of a cocky douche, or maybe he doesn’t like foreigners, who knows. If you just ignore him, you should have a good time. The bouncer is nice, and knows few words of French, you should try it out. The pool is 1 dollar and takes bills only. But you don’t want to ask the bartender anyway, he is too busy chatting with his friends.

They now accept credit cards! Trust me, it’s kind of a big deal in OB. Not exactly a dive bar, but definitely far from a trendy bar. It’s a comfortable bar. You can sit in one of the booths, or take one of the many bar seats. Or play some pool for $ 1 per game(two tables available in the back). There’s a juke box — people here pick some pretty awesome jams. They have some old pictures of historic OB(though, I’m not sure if OB has changed THAT much over the years). The drinks are very reasonably priced, like most of OB. And bartenders here are awesome! Solid OB spot.

Extremely underrated gem located on Newport! A long time Cash-Only bar Tony’s now accepts debit cards and CC cards! Tony’s is owned by the same owners as Sunshine Company and Arizona(on Cable). Tony’s specializes in martinis but they have a great beer selection and knowledgeable staff if that’s not your thing. Their seasonal martinis are eye catching but they are usually very sweet — think pumpkin spice latte meets vodka and have whipped cream! If that’s your thing, it’s a lot of fun since you don’t see that type of drink in the other OB bars, but I stick to a nice vodka dirty martini or beer when I am here. Tony’s is cozier than it’s sibling bars and is a better location for a date night or starting your night out when you’re not ready for the party scene at the other bars. Also, note that the bartenders here, Sunshine and AZ all talk, so if you get booted from one bar you’re not getting into the others. So behave yourself and save yourself the trouble. Pro Tip: A few dirty martinis will turn any awkward date right around! Trust me. Not that I am ever awkward on a date. no wait, I am never on a date. T_T

This place is so underrated! I freakin’ love it. Here’s a few reasons why: 1. It’s not as crazy loud as other bars on Newport, so it’s a great place to start your night(when you’re still sober, and you just can’t even handle the crowds yet.) 2. They have a menu of super tasty hand-crafted martinis. So cute. 3. $ 2 wells for happy hour. 4. There’s about 5 little cozy booths along the walls — makes it look almost classy. It’s a good place to stop with a date. 5. Karaōke on Thursday nights — the place fills up with hordes of super-hot hipster boys. I could go on, but why don’t you just check it out for yourself! CASHONLY :(

Not much of a drinker, but damn, I do LOVE their chocolate and other sweet and flavorful martinis. Two of them and I’m pretty much floating out of there! All the bartenders are so nice too. And love all the OB historical pics on the wall. I will go in there and check them out every time I go in there. Bring cash, no plastic accepted.

We walked in and there was a stench of beer carpet. Either way we still came in. It was dead silent. There were two men at the bar staring at TV’s with no sound. The bartender girl shouted out«Hey what would you guys like to have?». I replied«Ummm», «What do you have on draft?» she replied«Do you really want me to read off the whole list to you?» I got up and walked over to where she was and noticed they had Guinness. I ask for two Guinness’s when she advised me that they were $ 7.50 each for a pint. I was not sure if she was warning us just in case we did not have enough money or if she did that for every type of beer. So, I asked her if she knew how to pour a proper Guinness. She laughed and said«Yes». So I watched her. Yes, she poured a proper beer. $ 15.00 please as she shouted over the counter across the bar. I got up and walked over to her and handed her my card. She then advised me that this place is cash only but there is an ATM on the other end of the bar. I thought to myself when she was telling me that they cost $ 7.50 would have been a good time to say this is cash only. This place is racking up on not only high prices on their drinks, but they are making $ 2.50 a pop using their ATM. Good business gimmick but hard on someone’s pocket. We actually had to pick up our own drinks, I am sure it was because she was way too busy with the other two people in the bar who already had their drinks. As we started sipping our beer, she came out from around the counter right by our table to go and start putting out the chalk board for the outside signage. Why couldn’t she just bring us our drinks? I am not sure. The place has awesome pictures of Ocean Beach history that I enjoyed looking at. The bathrooms were clean. There were two pool tables in the back and a payphone booth with everything ripped out of the wall and it just looked tacky. I think I will leave this place to the tourists.

One of my favorite haunts was, and still is, Tony’s, where a «mature» person(over 40) does not feel out of place. Great variety of beers on tap… great selection of CDs in the jukebox. Greatest yet: call an order in to Hodad’s, pick it up without hassle, and enjoy your burger in the comfort of Tony’s, at the bar chatting with a friendly bartender or in a cozy booth, while playing pool, listening to cool tunes, and drinking your favorite brew, martini, or other…

So… What could possibly be more humiliating than a drunk dial… drunk text… or a drunk Facebooking? Drunk UnilocalING! Oh yes… it happened. and it happened to me thanks to Sooty(Like Booty), the Bartender at Tony’s, and her trusty sidekick Dave, the Friendly Patron at the end of the bar! Here’s my story: Just off our flight to San Diego from the Bay Area we found ourselves on a Ferry ride to Coronado Island where I had my 1stEVER Dirty(«Filthy») Martini. I loved it… and so? I had another. My girlfriends and I then headed back to SD on the Ferry and headed over to Ocean Beach to stick our toes in the sand. After finding parking right along Bacon Street(AMAZING) we hopped out of the car and headed toward the beach. But wait! $ 5 Martinis at Tony’s — boasted a chalk board on the sidewalk teasing us as we tried to continue walking passed the open doorway. RrrrrrrrrrrrrrT! How can we turn down a $ 5 Martini?! In we went. Before our eyes even adjusted to the darkness we hear a voice from behind the bar. «Hi, girls! Sit wherever you like and Dave over there has offered to buy your 1st round!» Yah… you heard her! «OK!» and we sat down at the bar. The bartender came over to introduce herself«My name’s Sooty, just like Booty! Let me know whatcha want when you’re ready» Martinis all around!!! Before I knew it I had finished my 1st drink at Tony’s and found myself in a conversation with Sooty like Booty about my love and appreciation for Gin and my new found love of the DIRTY Martini. Sooty didn’t hold back. She was telling me all about the different types of Gin and letting me sniff them and then customizing a new drink around my tastes. The last thing I remember is thanking Dave«the friendly patron at the end of the bar» and going to the Juke Box with him to choose some good songs. I also have a fuzzy memory of taking some group photos with Dave and trying some other fun cocktails Sooty thought up while we were there. FADETOBLACK The next morning as I woke with my head pounding I moved just slightly enough to feel the crunch in my hair. «uuuuhm…(groan) I threw up, didn’t I?» I mustered up the energy to ask my friend next to me. «uh YAHYOUDID!» She said in a sarcastic and mildly annoyed tone. I got up to check out the damage… checked all the normal vitals: No vomit on my person… No random vomit in the bathroom… clothes are clean and accounted for… MYPHONE?! ohhhhh God my PHONE!!! where was it?! oh… There it was plugged into the charger looking as innocent as ever. I checked outgoing texts… All good. No outgoing calls… ALLGOOD. Oh Crap! Work email?! Nope… All good. PHOTOS? There was 1 photo… It was of me… assumingly post throw up with eyes red and blood shot… and that truly embarrassing«drunk sexy/crying for help» look on my face… But it seemed I never texted it… so? ALLLLLLLLLGOOD! My Saturday was looking up! I let a week go by as I healed from my overkill of Dirty Martinis. Those of which I may never be able to drink EVER again… Last Friday I decided I wanted to get on Unilocal and write an awesome review for Tony’s bar and I wanted to make sure to mention the AMAZING bartender I had met and made my BFF… As I was moving my mouse up to click«WRITEMYREVIEW» I notice a tiny thumbnail photo under the Tony’s Photos that looked ODDLYFAMILIAR. I clicked on THAT thumbnail instead. …and there it was. That DRUNKPHOTO I had found in my phone a week ago!!! Yep, you got it! The ONE I had been Soooooo relieved I hadnt texted of emailed it to anyone in my phone or even worse posted it on Facebook. Yes… there it was posted on Unilocal!!! If anyone had the rare experience of checking out what Tony’s had to offer via Unilocal last week — you may have seen that photo of me. If not? Well, THANKGOODNESS for the power of DELETINGPHOTOS you have posted. I am mortified. In any case. Tony’s ROCKS! Thanks to Sooty like Booty for making me some mean cocktails that I surely forgot! I’ll be back(with more food in my stomach for sure) next time I’m in San Diego! Awesome.
