I want to start off by saying that i understand that this is a family owned place, and that put off this review for 2 weeks because I was so upset with the way I was treated here by the owner. The food was delicious. I’m not disputing that. It was hot in there and by hot I mean my family and I were dripping sweat. Not appetizing when you’re eating. Then the music was blaring to the point where it was exhausting to talk to the person in front of me. We waited a VERY long time for our food. Which I don’t understand because there was only one other party of 4 in the restaurant. We waited almost 30 minutes to get our food. The kids plates came out first then we waited another 15 minutes for our plates. Now remember, the music is blaring and we are all uncomfortably hot and sweating. After we were done I calmly pointed out to the server that I felt we had been overcharged. She then yells for her mom and she comes out covered in sweat I mean it looks like she just got out of the shower. This person was probably sweating over the food we just ate. I said to her the kids plate on the menu says it’s$ 5.50, which she charged me $ 8.95 and the pozole is only $ 5 which is boldly stated on a GIANT banner in the front of the restaurant. She charged me $ 6.50 for that, stating that it’s a $ 1.50 tax on a $ 5 Item. WRONG!!! Not to mention the $ 3.50 per CAN not bottle of soda. So tried to respectfully correct her and she starts getting upset and yelling in Spanish…“well how much do you want to pay?!” And I said to her I want to pay what it says on the menu. The reciept and what’s listed on the wall and menu do not match. She then proceeds to pull $ 4 or of the register throwing it at me in front of my kids and walking away into the kitchen. Incredibly rude and embarrassing to your customer. I will never be back. I let her daughter know that I could have gone to any of the dozens of mexican restaurants just on Maclay not to mention all of San Fernando and that if the continue to disrespect their customers like that, they will not last because there is just much competition. FYI… I did not take the $ 4.

The location has plenty of parking and sitting space, unlike the other taco shop located just up the street and next to an open sewage line. The interior isnt fancy, but it’s serviceable, and huge images of the items sold are in very good, large quality. The owners are kind, polite, and help you decide on what you want– they’re also from Acapulco, so they know how to prepare seafood in tasty, authentic dishes. The tamales they make are made in banana leaves, which give them another delicious aroma and taste. The tortillas are made by hand, so their tacos are big and very filling. The tacos actually have a lot of meat in them, unlike other taco shops, which give you maybe 3 pieces of meat altogether. We had their arroz con leche, which was creamy, smooth, and a very nice ending to a very good meal. The prices are stated plainly next to their picture. We didn’t have a problem with pricing or being short changed like the other reviewer.

This place is absolute GARBAGE! There menu says a certain price but when you pay it’s different. There sign says $ 5.00 bucks for pozole and the total came out to $ 6.50… That’s 30% tax WTF? Then when I confronted the waiter about it she said I just take the orders I don’t know anything about the price… Then why is she operating the registers and customers money??? Then the old rude lady comes out to give me two dollars back for the«30% percent«tax I paid for the pozole. Anyways I ended up paying $ 40 bucks for shit I didn’t even order. To much to say about this place but trust me this place is a rip off! They don’t understand simple math here.

Really enjoyed the food. Everything is made to order. Everything I have tried is seasoned well. Refried beans are on point. And I’m super picky.

So I popped in here a couple of months ago. I couldn’t find a Unilocal page for this business, instead it was another taco joint business name at the same address. So I’m assuming they’re pretty new. The place looks like an old burger joint from the 60s/70s that has probably been many other businesses once upon a time. If you’re expecting a ‘nice’ place, don’t come here. This is a Mexican food joint and I have no problems, and sometimes prefer, that authentic food be served out of a «hole-in-the-wall.» They specialize in seafood I believe, hence the name La Playa(the beach). I was tempted to order the Agua Chile(shrimp ceviche), but it was pretty pricey and I needed something more substantial for lunch. The lady working the register was very nice(there seemed to be 2 – 3 people working and lunch was slow at this time), she recommend the steak taco. It was a great choice! The tortilla was toasted and had the perfect amount of crunch/softness(see picture). Steak was tender and flavorful. Rice, beans, onion– the works. Salsa bar had several salsas(also pictured) that I enjoyed thoroughly, alongside some pickled carrot and a hot jalapeño. For my first visit, it was fantastic. The service could have been a bit faster, but judging by how well prepared my food was, I’m not complaining. It looked and tasted good enough for me to share on instagram, which I don’t always do. I hope my next visit will be as enjoyable.

UPDATE: I knew this place wasn’t going to last. There is now a new banner that hangs over the front door. Please stay tuned for what you need in order to have a successful business here in San Fernando or anywhere else… more details to come. I will be providing a comprehensive list of things your business will NEED in order to have a chance at making it. This place is sorry as hell! Soon as you walk in you can smell the RAID spray for roaches. The food portions are small and the price is expensive. I ordered two ceviche tostadas and it came out to almost $ 15 bucks! Stay away from this place it blows big time. Dont say I didn’t warn you.
