Changed hands and is now all-you-can-eat. But the quality has suffered. Might want to try a different Japanese restaurant in the area.

We ate here before a movie at Opera Plaza on Friday. I wasn’t feeling great on Saturday morning. This was a poor experience all around. — Really slow, considering nobody there — Sticky floors — Ramen was not good at all. «Slow-simmered» egg was clearly a hard-boiled egg that was WAY overcooked. Half of it was eraser consistency. Literally inedible. Noodles still clumped together. Big chunks of bitter scallion floating around. — Sushi was unimpressive at best. Poorly formed, looked like someone’s first try at sushi. — Half-filled aquarium with grey water and nothing in it just sitting there. — Worst kind of muzak playing over sound system. I won’t say I got food poisoning, but I felt kind of queasy the next morning. Only nice thing was the staff was very friendly. But sorry — that doesn’t really make up for overall very low quality.

We came here for lunch. The service was super slow, and there’s a reason why there was a Groupon deal. They needed the business. The food was okay. Just SOSLOW. We could’ve walked out without paying. Next time, I’m checking reviews before I buy another Groupon.

Wow, this place doesn’t get good reviews. It was good. It could be a little overpriced. We got lobster bisque and three different rolls. One had raw salmon, one had tempura shrimp, and one had crab. I enjoyed the meal.

I always enjoy coming into 2G for a great experience. The staff is always really nice and attentive. They always have great recommendations involving seasonal catches which are not always on the menu. Further, the chef has taught me some great facts about eating sushi in Japan. I will not tell you to many, but it is not bad luck in Japan to pour your own Sake. I really needed to know that both emotionally and financially. Last, I love the correlation of people who gave this spot one star and the fact that they used a Groupon. This just furthers my belief that Groupon does not provide loyal customers, just cheapskates who are looking for a deal.

Absolutely no stars! The food was horrible, my friend actually described the horrific gyoza as tasting like an ‘Old, wooden ship’, all of the food smelled and tasted like it had sat out all day and was brought suspiciously fast, and it looked the sushi was put together by chefs with hooks for hands. All of this compounded with the fact they over charged all of our credit cards makes it the worst dining experience I’ve had in ages, maybe ever. Only go here if you hate food, your friends, yourself and your credit score.

I wish I could rate a negative 5 stars. This place gave me hot-I’ve-got-to-run-to-the-toilet-I-might-shard-myself-diarrhea the next day. The place was dead except for our group of 4 on a Friday night. The edamame slimily squirted out of the shells like they had been cooked days before and were putrefying, rolls were smashed like the chef didn’t have a sharp knife, and the gyoza tasted like a rotting old wooden ship. The beer and sake were the only edible items served out of this restaurant. Nasty, nasty — don’t waste your time.

I come here from time to time, and will continue visiting. If you’re reading the other reviews prior to this, you’ll see that the opinions vary. I haven’t analyzed whether its a shift in time of the review, or just varied tastes. Worth looking at. Also, if you look at the range of the menu, you could eat here many times and never have the same thing. Including Burgers. Which, I suppose has an advantage if you’re with a group. The Good: 1. Nice space — it’s got a lot of different areas, and a long bar. Big main room. And, I tend to like my space, especially at lunch on a work day, and this place is simply cavernous at lunch.(Note: Others might see this as a negative.) 2. The quality feels good — things are well placed, the sushi bar on the line is nice, and the food(while not spectacular) features quality ingredients. Referencing(1.), they focus more on the presentation of the space than the looks of the food, but use good stuff in the food. 3. Range of menu items. Including Burgers. Its mainly what you’d find on a Japanese-influence menu, but(while I won’t be getting a burger here) I can see where this may be good if you’re with a group and someone just wants a burger. Poor business-traveler from the Midwest who’s just starving and ain’t down with raw fish. 4. Check out the Unilocal Check-In Offer. [ ;) } 5. Nice folks. The Less Good: 1. $$$ for the Rolls. I need to investigate if they really use a higher quality, but it’s more in the $ 10 – 16 range. 2. They use good ingredients, but it’s not terribly generous given the price. $ 15 – 20 gets to be spendy for the a lot of people, and I wouldn’t say this is a place to splurge. 3. I wonder why they aren’t busier. Is it all Opera business? 4. Plastic Food in the window is Tacky. Why? Why? Why? If the timing works and you happen along this location, it might be worth a try. Opera Plaza is actually pretty cool. I think there is a good quality-level, but overall, not a lot to make you go out of your way, especially since its not a bargain. But, as I said as I began, I’ll return. It is convenient for me, and it has some personal features I like. You can also gauge the other reviews, as this is my own unique viewpoint.

I dined at this restaurant years ago and had a good memory of it so I decided to go for it on a Saturday night after a concert. The restaurant was almost empty. I thought it was the late time of day. We decided to go for the Sushi bar. The chef paid very little attention to us watching him sloppily putting together our sushi. We had some sashimi(the tiniest little pieces I have ever seen). The rolls did not even make it in one piece to the table. They fell apart before touching. Cucumber was not part of the roll we ordered and yet it was the main part. some of the rice was old so we repeatedly hit hard rice corns and had to spit them out. We also had Tobiko with an Quail egg. Not only did the egg not stay on the nigiri but the Tobiko was unusually small and strange looking. I let it go back but when the waitress returned it was the same thing. When we expressed our concerns about the poor quality of the Sushi the chef yelled at us and said«get the hell out of here». Wow!!! Needless to say that we did not leave a tip. This restaurant either closes soon or needs to have a serious take over. There is no way poor quality and awful customer service can survive in this beautiful city.

My husband can’t stop talking about this place since our 20 minutes there a month ago. Basically, we were meeting friends at city hall and had just a few minutes to grab food. We walked up the street, saw this place, looked at each other and said«sushi?» And nodded. The seated us immediately, quickly got us tea, and we ordered the sushi special with ramen. Sashimi there was perfect. Every piece. Meanwhile, husband was fixated on the ramen, which he has compared every ramen to since. It was hearty but with just the right broth… We were stuffed, got our bill, and ran to our appointment sad that we couldn’t stay longer! Can’t wait for a more thorough visit to this little bistro next time we are in the area. Local work lunch goers are lucky!

Whenever I write a review, especially when it’s a negative one, I try to be as fair as possible and the give the benefit of the doubt when I can. As such, when I do give just one star, it means something went awry. And in this case, I can say without any hesitation that it was one of the WORST dining experiences I’ve ever had. After seeing a deal for 2G Japanese Brasserie on Living Social, I made the mistake of buying it without looking at their Unilocal reviews(which are pretty bad). However, I was still hopeful based on my friend’s review, as well as the menu of somewhat unique(albeit expensive) dishes. However, once we arrived and saw just one other table in the fairly large restaurant, I knew we were in trouble. For obvious reasons, I was a little skittish on ordering anything raw, so I decided to get the KUROBUTATONKATSU( ). It’s undeniably expensive for a tonkatsu dish($ 24), but it sounded interesting and I(incorrectly) assumed it would be a safe choice. The taste was really mediocre, and the stir-fried vegetables were odd, but the execution was AWFUL. Unless tonkatsu is supposed to be served bloody, red and raw( ). Funny, I don’t remember seeing possible food poisoning offered on the side. Now, in case you think I’m just being harsh and that my dish was a fluke, the dishes my relatives ordered were undercooked as well. The Miso Salmon dish and the chicken teriyaki in the Dinner Bento Box were cold at their cores. Not that I have proof, but that seems to suggest the food was taken straight out of the freezer, no? As «nice» as it was for them to take back our dishes to cook them further, what really would have been nice was if they just offered an apology. No complimentary dishes or a discount on our tab, just a simple«sorry» and some remorse would have gone a long way with us. But I guess that was just too much to ask of them, since we got nothing. Well, except for the regret we felt for coming here. Without a doubt, I would NEVER even consider coming back.

The interior looks nice and the presentation of the sashimi was super adorable. The food takes a very long time to get to the table. I don’t know why it takes so long, but it’s like they forget about you or something. If you’re out for lunch, which I was, this would not be the place for you. I found myself constantly worrying about whether or not I’ll be late going back to work.

NEVERAGAIN! I ordered to go, and I walked to the back to pick up my called-in order. The carpet was slick and sticky… should have been my sign to turn around and find another place. I got back to the office with my order, Nabeyake udon. Well, they put the fried tempura INTHESOUP so it was a soggified mess. Also, the egg they used was a half a hard-boiled egg, clearly not what is normally in udon. The CA rolls were warm. I’m not sure if this is because they were in the same bag as the boiling hot soup or if they used hot rice. I’ll save my money and go to the McDonalds across the street… at least I’ll be assured I won’t come down with some food-bourne illness. And I’d have a Diet Coke. Never again.

Soggy rice… YUCK!!! Overpriced Japanese food. Small portions. Leave it for the lawyers. Seems to be their go-to lunch spot.

SUCH a mixed experience here… there were some really great things about it, and some really not-so-great things about it. I toiled with how to ‘land’ on this rating, and came up with two, because ultimately, some of the negatives simply have to be weighted so heavy. PROS: 1. Empty during Pride festival three blocks away. I mean, empty-empty. We were the only table when we arrived, and one of two tables when we left. 2. Privacy: They gave us a back conference room for our group of nine people, so we sort of had our own little place back there, which was nice. 3. Server: She was an absolute sweetheart, we loved her. 4. Setting: Quite nice, and squeaky clean. 5. Price: $ 24.95 for AYCE sushi and side dishes is a steal. CONS: 1. Lipstick on my water glass. I mean, a LOT of lipstick. Like, I could have applied a full coat of lipstick to myself FROM the water glass if I wanted to. That’s almost reason enough to get up and leave(except we were starving). 2. Two hour time limit on AYCE is reasonable. Except when you have to wait 30 – 45 minutes between courses because things just weren’t moving fast in the kitchen. Our server(again, loved her) was bringing things out the moment they came out… it’s just that they came out really slow. You really only get two courses here, because your two hour limit expires while you’re waiting so long for your rolls to come out. 3. Rice. So. Much. Rice. Some of the sushi rolls were 90% rice. I mean, I get it, it’s AYCE, but seriously… some sense of trying to make it taste like fish would be nice. Not true of all of the rolls, but way true for some of them. This place has potential, but really has to be managed better.

I’ve seen this place before and wondering if they are any good. thought i’d give it a try. The place was empty on a week night and it’s an hour before closing time. I ordered sushi rolls and the slices are pretty small compared to other sushi places I’ve been to. Had to order 6 rolls to satisfy the cravings. I would never go back to this place. Food didn’t strike my fancy.

Bleh! NOSTARSSTAYAWAY I should have checked the reviews first. Wanted something close to Symphony and found the Groupon. Friday night 7pm only 4 other diners were there! 3.50 for Miso? Sushi rice on first two rolls was not sushi rice but just rice from the cooker. Basically an unseasoned white paste and the rolls fell apart before we touched them. After the miso and a roll, we were served the rest of our food after only a 40 minute wait. There was nothing good about this place. Service was extremely poor, food was not even average and the fish was not so fresh. Time to close this place and let someone else try. The«chef» should try another carrier. The owners should be shamed publically for allowing such poor food and service in such a nice place. I should have known with no one there and a bar that was not a sushi bar. Why hide the kitchen unless you NEED to? There won’t be a next time!

Negative stars. Unilocal really needs to offer a 0-star option at the very least, for places like 2G. First, we made the epic fail decision of buying a Groupon for sushi without first reading the reviews — this was my error, so 1 star for the business trying their best to get people in the door(clap clap). We tried to call and make a reservation but the lady said something to the effect of «We are not busy tonight, so no reservation needed.» Sounds good to me. When we walked in the door, we were surprised that there was not a single human life form there, save for the staff(first red flag). We sat down and ordered some apps– the first app that came out was good — the ahi poke. Unfortunately, it all goes downhill after this. Then came the sad, tired hamachi roll. As soon as the server set it down, I smelled something pungent that violently disagreed with me — VIOLENTLY. It smelled strongly of rotting fish. 2nd red flag. My date tried the hamachi roll and said«not so fresh» which I already knew because it smelled like hot, rotting garbage. She and I both choked down one piece of that roll just to see if it was«just us» or the fish that was disagreeable. Trust me, it was indeed the fish. The hamachi was just NOTEVENCLOSETOEDIBLE. There was bloodline in the hamachi! Yikes! The other rolls that came out were not very good either. The Golden Gate roll had BROWN avocado on it. Finally, I told the server that we did not care for the Hamachi roll(we would try to be nice & only send that one back). The girl took it away, never said another word about it, and then when we got the check it was still on there… 3rd red flag. They just don’t care. I worked at an upscale sushi restaurant for 4 years, I know my sushi and I know what they are serving is just wrong. So wrong. Notes to the Owners/Mgmt of 2G Japanese Brasserie: 1. Fire your sushi chef. It amazes me that I only had an upset stomach and no food poisoning. He should not be serving such poorly handled sushi — he should be ashamed to call himself a «sushi chef.» No integrity whatsoever. I might report your establishment to the dept of public health. 2. If you want to attract new customers by promoting through Groupon etc. — you should re-think your strategy. Instead of treating your Groupon customers like 2nd class citizens for wanting to try your restaurant out(giving them the throwaway leftovers with bloodline in the fish and rotting veggies) — treat them like VIP and give them a great experience SOTHEYLEAVEGOODREVIEWSANDMAYBEEVENCOMEBACKAS A FULL-PAYINGCUSTOMER. What a concept! 3. Actually, just quit. Close down the doors of your business because you guys have failed so miserably that there is nothing you can do to redeem yourselves. It’s literally that bad. Read your reviews. But no matter what, fire that sushi chef who was working last night — Sunday, March 2nd around 8:30 pm. What a joke. Will never come back. Avoid this place like the plague.

Yikes! The food was really expensive, and that’s ok when the food kicks ass, but this was nothing special, in fact, it was pretty terrible. $ 7 on a seaweed salad, $ 3.5 for a miso soup and neither of these were any different from the seaweed salad or miso soup that you’d spend less than $ 2 on at any other restaurant. The service was terrible, but that was clearly the fault of the management, not the waitress who was on her own with at least 12 tables. We saw at least two groups walk out. We went with the All You Can Eat Option($ 24.99 per person, unless you want nigiri +$ 5 or a side +3) because it was the cheapest was to get three rolls and two soups. We were there for an hour and a half, saw out waitress twice, canceled one out of three rolls because we got a piece of bad fish in the second one. The manager gave us 10% off our bill, and had no interest in what kind of fish the bad piece was.

EWEWEWEWEWEW. DON“T COMEINHERE. When my bf and I went in here it was empty. The only reason we came in was because they had a deal of 15 $ lobster and steak. Being a poor college student we had one order of that and shared it. This place was still playing christmas music and it was a week after! There were two tables next to us that was dirty and you;d think with no one around they’d want to find something to do but no way they left it there till we sat down. They were too busy watching tv and boy, you know when there is a tv and there’s no one in the dining room BEAFRAID!!! Man, the dinner was ridiculous! When we received our plate the waiter said that the lobster tail is from Australia so that’s why its dry. WHATANEXCUSE. There was 3 microfilm thin pieces of sashimi and about 4 small chunks of kobe steak. –_– and did I mention the lobster was burnt and dry? We ate it and left. I turned around an noticed they changed the price of the special we ordered to 22 $. *EYEROLL* will NOT return!!! The only reason why we came in was because the lady who own the floral shop next door said it was good(she was eating her lunch from there) and she always orders there. She said for the past 20 years she’s worked there 11 restaurants have been next to her well i hope this restaurant is the next to GO!!!
