I had an excellent experience working with Mike Portman at the Sacramento St. location yesterday. Mike provided an educational video gait analysis, answered all my questions, and helped me settle on a new pair of Asics. I tried on about 5 different pairs of shoes and I appreciated the opportunity to test them outdoors on the pavement. The store has a nice selection of shoes and clothing as well. Mike even gave me a complimentary water bottle, which was a nice touch. If you’re looking for some new gear, come to A Runner’s Mind and you won’t be disappointed! These people know what they’re doing!

Monte, the owner/​founder, is super approachable. I had a problem with my transaction, and he stepped in to fix everything when he became aware of it. I’ve always believed that you learn a lot more about a business when things go wrong than when they go right, and I learned that A Runner’s Mind is the real deal.
I’d definitely recommend serious runners consider purchasing here, though selection is limited if you’re serious about barefoot/​minimalist running, so be careful.

Great selection of shoes, however they do not have any low profile (or negative heel) running shoes. Regardless, the customer service was fantastic and the team selflessly suggested a few other stores that carry the type of shoes I was looking for!

I’ve had a bad case of achilles tendonitis and figured it was time for a new pair of running shoes. I explained to the very helpful sales associate that I tend to overpronate and he brought me a selection of sneakers to try on. I ran around the block in a few different styles and finally found the perfect fit with a new pair of ASICS. Run, don’t walk, on over to A Runner’s Mind for quality service and a great selection of running gear to fit all of your running needs.

I LOVE a runner’s mind! I can not say enough good things about this place — both the selection of products and the service. Mike and his team are consistently attentive, informative, and helpful. They have introduced me to new shoes that are perfect for my level and for some injury needs. The environment in the store is very welcoming for all running/​walking/​athletic levels of athlete, and the products are reasonably priced relative to other comparable stores. I buy all of my shoes and running and triathlon products here — they are awesome!

Had a great experience today! I usually go to a specialty running store in San Jose but I’m glad I got the chance to check out A Runner’s Mind. Kyle was very knowledgable and friendly. The gait analysis helped determine that I needed a shoe with more stability compared to the Mizuno Wave Riders I’ve been wearing for years. Totally recommend going here.

A decent place to buy shoes, although my experience was not as 5 star as most of the reviews here. I didn’t get a gait analysis — I was just handed a few pairs of shoes and telling me to go outside and try them out. I did appreciate being able to try running in them outside but would have appreciated a little more feedback. Again a decent place to buy running shoes, where they seem to know their shoes here. And maybe if you pester them a little bit, they’ll put in more effort.

Worked with a guy named Kyle — patient, took the time to explain to me «why a shoe isn’t just a shoe.» Made sure I left with a piece of equipment best suited for my aging body!

Great service, super helpful and friendly. They took time to recommend the right fit for me and my running style. They filmed you running outside the store and will explain to you why they you need the shows they are picking for you.

This is a real running store. Not a Foot Locker that just hands you shoes in the size that you claim you need, and leave you with the decision making process on your own. Not even a SA Elite that lets you hop on the treadmill to do a «gait analysis» but doesn’t really help you out with your decision much at all.
No, this store will go above and beyond to film you running outdoors (nope, not on a treadmill!), measure your feet, pick shoes that are actually your size (even if you think you need a 6.5 because that’s what you’ve been used to all your life), allow you to run outside in each shoe you try on, and end up handing you a 7.5 because the factories messed up this year and shoes are 1 size too small! You never could have figured that out on your own!
Go to A Runner’s Mind if you’re a serious runner and need something that’s a perfect fit for you.

I discovered this store last fall when I was taking my son to get a haircut across the street so I was compelled to wander in to check it out. I was immediately helped by Mike who asked me a few questions about my running needs and concerns after which he had me try on several pairs and run up and down the sidewalk. Just by analyzing my gait, he fit me in by far the best running shoes I have ever run in, and I’ve been running for decades!
I wore that pair until they started to fall apart. Against my better judgement, I purchased my next pair of running shoes after a complex gait analysis (eg treadmill video, foot print) at Road Runner Sports thinking I could save a few bucks. During my first run in the new pair, I experienced sharp, stabbing foot pain while running on the Golden Gate Bridge. Never again!
I have also had numerous injuries from both running and soccer and Mike and Monte have recommended amazing supportive braces/​products that have helped me recover from my injuries in record time. The sales associates are running EXPERTS and I am forever a loyal customer of A Runner’s Mind.

This is THE BEST RUNNING STORE EVER!!! I have been coming to A Runner’s Mind since it originally opened in Burlingame, CA in 2010. They have some of the most knowledgable sales associates and running experts I have ever encountered in a running store. They have fitted me with the best racing and training shoes since I was in high school.
My favorite part about this shop is the group runs. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday they have group runs that run out of both SF and Burlingame shops. Not only do I get to meet other amazing runners in the community, I was able to build a great relationship with the people who work here.
Great running community, great running/​fitness advice, and great service… what else can you ask for? Come to A Runner’s Mind!!!

Awesome shop in presidio heights with a small but focused inventory of running shoes. These guys really know their stuff and will hook you up right. They will take the time to fit you in the right shoes at the right price

A Runner’s Mind totally exceeded my expectations.
I’m a recreational runner who has recently started running half marathons. For the sake of saving a few bucks, I had always bought on-​sale running shoes at department stores – what a mistake! After running a few races, it was clear my previous shoes were going to do more harm than good.
My boyfriend and I first heard about A Runner’s Mind through friends and decided to go for a fitting. Monte helped us out and it’s clear he knows what he’s doing. He asked us about how we use our shoes, what problems we currently had and slo-​mo filmed us running outside to really understand our form. He walked us through 4 pairs of shoes each, highlighting the differences in brand & technology and had us run with each to feel the comparison. We never felt like he was trying to push any specific model down our throats and he really let us choose the one that felt the best to us. At the end of our purchase, he even threw us a free pair of socks.
If you’re going for a fitting, budget ~30−45 minutes for a thorough one. It’s worth every penny, and I’m really excited to start running with my new pair. We’ll definitely be returning for our running needs.

This is a great store! The owners are genuine and helpful. My husband and I stopped by bc they had a Bob stroller in the window and we wanted to see how it felt. They took it out of the window and let us (well my husband) run up and down the street with it. They even volunteered to put their little girl in it so we could see what it would feel like when our little one was in it.

I had stepped up my fitness game up pretty intensely but had not stepped my shoe game up to match. As a result, my feet have taken a beating. Blisters so bad I could barley walk! The depression of not being to run was setting in and I was desperate. So I knocked off work early and made it down to A Runner’s Mind. I was a bit intimidated by running and being videotaped for a proper evaluation, but Monte made it easy & quick. He really knows his stuff and brought numerous things to my attention. Specifically, my running shoes were too small. He took out 4 pairs for me to try and I fell in love with my perfect running shoe. Just minutes later I was back to my run.

Stopped in on the Blackest of Friday’s to get a pair of running shoes, and was blown away by the service and prices.
THE RUN DOWN:
Using a slow mo camera app, their salesman Atticus checked for running style to help pick a shoe best suited for my gf. The run fit is standard at running shoe stores, but he was super knowledgable, and wasn’t just trying to push the latest fad or most expensive shoe. He really seemed concerned to find not just the best fit, but the best match for her.
Everyone else in the store was super friendly and casual, and when it came time to check out, we wound up getting a pair of shoes and shorts for about 40% less than I would of expected. Given it was Black Friday, but it was still a great deal.
Can’t wait until my current pair wears out so I can come here for my next.
