One of my friends had a pop up shop for his clothing company, California Crown, at Asterisk. I thought Asterisk was the perfect venue for it! I tried taking pictures of Asterisk, but it just didn’t photograph well. You should definitely check it out«in real life.» Like other Unilocalers have mentioned, it’s pretty«hip,» and in a relatively central location if you’re planning on staying in the area for dinner or going out. It’s just a nice place to browse.

Asterisk Magazine is a cool and hip way to find out what’s happening and where to go in San Francisco(people still say«hip» right?). It’s made with love locally by an awesome team of creative pros who started and developed the magazine from the ground up. It’s not nearly as commercial or «bougie» as the other SF-focused prints out there. The gallery itself is a cool modern space tucked away in the mission. Also, props for having a deal when you checkin here through Unilocal

All the people that have been in the mission for awhile tell me that 24th Street is the next Valencia Street. Asterisk SF is an example why. Not only can you grab a copy of their super local, highly hip magazine, you can’t get it for free. I know I got cooler the first time I went there. Like art? Walk inside and check out the gallery space. I’m in love with the interactive pieces currently installed by David Molina. With a music background and a taste for pushing the status quo, his art is probably like few others you have probably seen. I would try to explain it, but I don’t feel like it. Plus, they have a website for that. Like random pop-up events? I joined their mailing list and was alerted to a donation-only California Olive Oil Tasting. Olive Oil Tasting? Yeah, that is right — you can find anything in San Francisco. And I totally loved it. A lovely local young lady, Maia Hirschbein, went to Italy to study food and found a passion for olive oil. When she came back home to CA, she wondered how local olive oil compared. After visiting every producer in the state, she had tons of sample bottles and almost as many new friends. So she decided to share all those bottles and friends! And boom. You have an epic evening for the intellectually curious. I find that if anyone has a passion for something, however ordinary or familiar it may be, they can take your experience somewhere you never could have imagined. Anyways, place is dope. As long as you’re into free art, free local zines, and intriguing events.

Asterisk SF — Capturing Urban Life. We put a lot of love into this space to make it a place for people to enjoy art and feel welcomed. You may rent the space for personal or company events. Sometimes you can find magical pop-up shops here, featuring local designers, bloggers, & makers. This is also where the magic happens creating Asterisk San Francisco Magazine.
