Great drinks and fun staff! Our bartender gave us good conversation as we killed time with our drinks and he gave great suggestions for drinks to try. The drinks mixed with fresh herbs have been consistently tasty for me and I would recommend them to anyone. Ambiance is very chill although the music can get loud. Great place for casual meet ups but probably not a personal date. I plan to come back here for more drinks and to try the food!

Not bad for brunch, I’ve been two times just for Sunday brunch so can’t speak for the nightlife or bar aspect. Came at around 11:20 after a yoga class in the area. This part of town is vacant during the day. It was empty when I came this time but remember it being more full last time when I came around 1. Maybe people are slow to rise? There was a live DJ spinning house beats which was interesting. Very open, mellow but homey, and bright ambiance during the day. I remember they had a pretty good chicken salad with pumpkin seeds but redid the menu and there’s no brunch salads. Bummer, since I try to avoid starchy foods. I ended up getting the hash, and they were nice enough to substitute the soyrizo instead of carnitas in the hash. Eggs were on point, hash part was on the oily side, soyrizo was a welcome salty and savory veggie substitute. Overall, it was a very reasonable price for a moderate sized portion and tasty food! My friend was satisfied with his carnitas hash. I was absent-minded as usual and forgot my card and the server chased after me. Bonus points for being patient with my difficult picky eating and ditziness.

Mediocre. I came here last Sunday night and there were only 3 other people in the spot. The drinks were okay, service was mediocre, they were playing INTENSE top 40 like Sad Sam Smith songs followed by Beyonce(which I personally don’t find«loungey» or relaxing). I couldn’t hear most of what my date was saying. Beer selection was limited but had some good IPA’s and stouts. I would consider coming here earlier in the day rather than late at night

We stumbled in here on the night my friends were celebrating my birthday(it was a Sunday night). My friend had planned a really fun night and were were supposed to cut my cake somewhere else, but it was randomly closed. Someone Unilocaled this(thanks Unilocalers!) so we decided to try it out. This place is fun! I mean, it was pretty quiet since it was a work night. But there were a handful of people there. I’m not sure if he was a manager, but the guy who worked there greeted us so kindly! There were about 7 of us. We sat down and my friend proceeded to arrange the cake and plates. It was actually pretty funny because he came to tell us that there is usually a cake cutting fee as my friend is setting up shop, but he said not to worry about it. He then gave me a shot(on the house) for my birthday. This was awesome, considering we hadn’t spent a dime yet! So a few others went and bought some drinks, and then my friend bought a round for all. The décor here is so cute — I loved it! I like their seating options, as they have some comfortable chairs and couches. I keep saying I will come back but I haven’t had the chance to. It feels very homey and welcoming. They even have a photo booth by the entrance, which I wish we would have used. Next time! Thanks to the folks here — it was a spontaneous visit but you contributed to a fantastic night!

Drinks are great, atmosphere is fun and DJ plays great music dueing Friday Happy Hour. During this visit I have to subtract points for the poor service the waitress gave our group. The whole time she served us she never smiled and looked like she would rather be somewhere else. They only had one other waiter so it didn’t seem like we could ask for another waiter. Hopefully she’ll change her attitude or won’t be there the next time.

Came here friday night with a friend after dinner. Azucar lounge is a cute little place, with multiple cushy couches for you and your friends to snuggle up and catch up on conversation. They have a great dimly lit ambiance(perfect for dates), and light music in the background. Looking over the menu, they had a good selection of small bites. My friend and I only went for drinks. Their horchata margarita was to die for. They also had a another drink on the menu that was spicy and quite refreshing. Drinks were approx $ 12 – 15. I’m assuming they have a happy hour during the week. Definitely a great place to check out for great cocktails(they have mezcal on hand) and conversation with friends.

I took my wonderful wife here for her birthday. She got a house shot of a very yummy melony slightly spicy shot. We had the chips and salsa which were salted awesome and warm. The salsa was fresh and yummy. We got the taco Tuesday ground beef tacos they are so good. Great flavors. We also had house margaritas which are crazy amazing. My lady had a frozen mint cocoanut margarita and she said it was amazing. We had a great time and she loved the service and the good we amazing.

Came here for the $ 12 unlimited taco Tuesday. Food: The tacos were not terrible but not good by any means either. The beef tacos didn’t have much flavor and there wasn’t really anything to them. I also tried the fish tacos on their regular menu and they were also just okay. I probably wouldn’t come back here, even if it’s convenient. Space: The space was pretty cool. I liked that it wasn’t super crowded like most taco Tuesday’s…but probably for a reason. They had large tables with couches so it felt more like a lounge. Service: Our waiter was nice and pretty attentive. We did have to wait a while to get our taco refills. They also accidentally charged us for extra orders on our bill. I’m sure that doesn’t happen all the time, but it’s a good thing we caught it.

This place wants badly to be fancy, but charging $ 7 for a half sized hotdog + $ 8 wells won’t make it so. Go literally *anywhere* else for Mexican food in san francisco, especially this close to the mission. Go anywhere else for drink specials, too, because this place is trash.
They have lots of comfortable couches. That’s about the only nice thing that can be said. Azucar, stop trying so f’ing hard, get your hotdogs the right length, and pull your heads out from south of the border.

Wow!!! This place still has it going on, delicious creative drinks and food, served by friendly people! We enjoyed the Mezcal horchata margarita, the sage Yerba Buena, and the rosemary Yerba Buena! Fresh chips and guacamole! The Mayan Calender, Chilaquiles, and carnitas hash were all DELICIOUS!!! The DJ was playing some chill ambient, trance and it was perfect for brunch chatting and dining! Thanks for a great brunch experience!

Oh Azucar. Once a solid binge eating taco Tuesday option, now an utter disappointment. In fact, I made a reservation via SeatMe and left with a bad taste in my mouth(not literally). It wasn’t until this morning when I got an email from Unilocal asking me to review and, well, here I am! In the past few years, I have frequented Azucar on Tuesdays for their infamous $ 10AYCE tacos(beef and vegetarian options only). Seeing as I work in finance myself, I’d have to justify 6 tacos to really offset the cost seeing as most other joints have $ 1.50-$ 2 tacos on Tuesday. After a few margaritas … This was doable and USUALLY(okay, always) happened. Fast forward to yesterday. As we are driving around looking for parking to make our 6:30 reservation(we initially made one because it use to be SO hard to get a table as a walk-in), a friend of mine who happened to be dining there sent me a photo that Azucar has since raised their prices: $ 12 bottomless tacos(use to be $ 10), $ 25 dollar margarita carafes(use to be $ 20) and $ 5 margaritas(use to be $ 4). While I understand inflation and the rising costs of doing biz in SF(and capitalizing on their soma location with all the techie neighbors)… Had we had known the rise in prices, we probably would’ve chose somewhere else. We come in to see a half-empty restaurant, which is odd seeing as this place use to be busting at its seams. Should’ve been a red flag, but instead we were seated. We were quickly approached by our waiter(who, for the sake of this review, will be named«A») who handed us menus. We started with a diet coke and a water to discuss what we wanted. Oddly, we saw the bottomless tacos options but not the margarita specials except the house margaritas, which went from $ 12/each+. When«A» returned, we had a few questions and the conversation went as such: Us: excuse me, do you have another drink menu? A: nope, just this one. No drink specials today… Just full priced drinks and cocktails on this side of the menu *points to drink menu* «A» then leaves. We look at each other with blank stares. Why were our friends, 5 feet away, getting margarita specials and we weren’t offered the same specials? We decide to call him on it. «A» returns. Us: *giving him the benefit of the doubt* don’t you have the $ 5 margaritas and the $ 25 carafes today too? A: oh yes, we do. Us: *wondering why the f he chose to withhold that information* uh, ok, we will take that. 15 minutes pass, no food or drink. Another waiter(or manager?) passes by asking how things are. The response is right to the point, «THIRSTY». He goes the check on our drinks and brings them back within a minute. Shortly following, the food arrives. In the past, the food came out a few minutes apart from one another, this time was about 10 minutes before«A» would return and check on us… Leaving lots of gaps between eating two small-ish tacos. For the sake of dialogue, the tacos are good but not great. only given a beef option and a veggie, whereas other taco Tuesday spots have about 5 options. mediocre at best… but in the past we didn’t come for quality, it was more quantity. After about an hour, 6 tacos and one margarita later… We decide to close out. «A» never asked if we wanted a refill and passed by our table multiple times as we sat, confused, with empty plates. For our last plate, he just took them and walked off without asking if we wanted another order… We had to ask for a final order when asking for our check. And ill reiterate, was never once asked if we wanted a refill. Our tab, after the un-deserved 15% tip, was about $ 50 for two sugar-filled margaritas, 12 tacos and a $ 3 flat diet coke. Had we been asked if we wanted another drink, we would’ve ordered from the full bar and stayed longer. «A» didn’t deliver and seemed uninterested in serving us, while the other server was enthusiastic and prompt. Sadly, I don’t think ill come back. there are SO many other spots with better, cheaper, tacos and better service. This spot only makes sense if you can eat about 10 tacos to yourself, otherwise go elsewhere. Skip the margaritas, even at $ 5, tons of sugar and crappy well tequila. All of that could be dismissed had the service been on point. Sorry not sorry Azucar. I bid you farewell.

Came here on a Tuesday for Taco Tuesday. It’s $ 12 for unlimited tacos, one type of meat or the veggie tacos(so, 2 choices). The Food and Drink: I opted for veggie unlimited tacos despite not being a vegetarian. I also had 2 margaritas($ 5 each), which were small and not overly strong — they were actually really good margaritas. The veggie tacos were so-so. Not much rice and no beans. Mostly chopped squash or zucchini, was hard to tell in the dim lighting. The hot sauces were great though, they just don’t bring enough so we had to have a few rounds(which was fine, I understand some use more hot sauce /salsa than others so it saves to bring less until people ask for more). Atmosphere: The bar was really cool, and the seating arrangement was awesome. The music was pop music and sometimes Mexican(Ke$ha etc). I actually would’ve enjoyed the vibe more with a bigger group. We were seated next to the door, which was a problem as it was incredibly cold with the door open all night. Downsides: The prices on taco Tuesday for tacos and margaritas are reasonable, but the prices for other cocktails are absurd, $ 12 for a subpar cocktail? We had some issues with the service. The guys who waited on us were very nice and polite, but we had a mistake with the tacos and it became a bit of an ordeal to try to get it sorted out. The waiter didn’t seem to understand us but acted as he did, so it took a few tries to get the right tacos. Overall, I wouldn’t go back with just one or two other people, but with a larger group I probably would. TL;DR food not the best but taco Tuesday is reasonably priced for a group

This place was … interesting. I came here a while ago for brunch. Perhaps brunch is not their best feature, but at least the staff here is EXTRA nice, very friendly and super enthusiastic to help you. I had a friend who required accommodations and they were very good about it as he had been there before. We sat at the comfy couches which were awkward for eating in general and had some decent food. I would say money for value there are much better Mexican places in the city and much better food. However, I think this place has a very unique atmosphere that you probably won’t find at many other places. Many regulars are like family, and the staff treat them just like that. I probably wouldn’t come back again for food, but hey maybe a drink or two?

restaurant & casual lounge! depending on where you are seated, the seating can be comfortable or awkward, its different in every part of Azucar STRONG cocktails & decent latin food –azucar cocktail: I originally ordered it w/o the habanero & the owner Edgar WHOISSUPERNICE said if i didn’t like it WITH the habanero(the way it’s listed on the menu) then he’d remake my drink. unfortunately i didn’t like the spice but great w/o it! –margarita cocktail w/hibiscus, pineapple, & chili flake popsicle(forgot the name): delicious! the popsicle was like a chaser & the chili flakes surprisingly worked for me! —guacuamole & chips: the chips were fried fresh in the restaurant, addicting & the guacamole was so fresh & chunky! —fish tacos: not bad but i’d prob order a diff one next time —complimentary«welcome home shots» for us since it was our first time! LOVE the hospitality NOTE: you can suggest music here with the rockbot app

**Food review only** We came on a weeknight, starving. My friend and I sat on two comfy chairs and the guys on two crappy stools — I felt bad for them. The food menu is pretty short but I guess it’s normal for a bar. Our orders took a while to get to us and not at the same time for everyone. I had the tilapia ceviche. It was SO freaking salty and peppery — almost impossible to eat — served with tons of corn chips. The portion of ceviche was super small and honestly besides the salt: not too tasty at all. My husband had the carnitas tacos which he loved. The servers forgot my friend’s taco order so she watched us eat which wasn’t cool. We ordered a Mexican hot dog as we weren’t full by the end of that. It was small and nothing special. When I came home I ended up eating more because the dishes are NOT filling. Not cool when you spend 8 $ for each item. Food is overpriced here — for what you get. Since you can choose the music played in the bar from an app, crappy techno was playing. Kinda weird for a Mexican place and bad for our ears. We didn’t have the app to play our tunes. The bar was cozy and I liked it, it just sucked that the food wasn’t great and that the service was bad.

This is a nice go-to spot for casual dining. The outside of the lounge looks as sketchy as any other SOMA buillding, but lo and behold! As soon as you enter, you’re greeted by colorful décor, Jesus lanterns, comfy couches, and sounds of rhythmic beats of Latin America… aka Shakira Shakira! The first time I came here was for a small birthday gathering. The Happy Hour menu seriously cannot be beat. . Alas de Fuego — 2 Chicken wings for $ 1. So tender that these babies slide off the bone. Fresh Guacamole — $ 5. Not to mention that they pile on the tortilla chips sky high! Chips and salsa — Only 3 buckaroos The Quesadilla — Fresh and piping hot and extremely flavorful Oh and my favorite, the Nopales fries. These little battered fried cactus bites were not only cooked to perfection, but also accompanied with a zesty chipotle sauce on the side. Since then, I’ve frequented this place many more times and have thoroughly enjoyed the food, drinks, and ambiance during each encounter. For drinks, definitely try the Desde Russia con Amor(From Russia with Love). The element of surprise is the tasty ball of goat cheese placed inside the drink. For other delicious menu seletions, go for the Carnitas tacos, Ceviche, and a sweet bite of churro. Everything is packed with flavor! Service is attentive and friendly. The crowd is primarily casual. No hipster flare here. I’ll definitely continue coming to Azucar Lounge for a fun place to unwind!

From the ease of making a same-night reservation via the Unilocal app to the simplicity of the menu(a couple starters, a few tacos, and some gourmet street dogs) to the friendly service to the well-concocted drinks, this experience was so positively delightful in every way. It’s dark inside with living room-like seating as opposed to proper tables and chairs for dining. It’s more quirky than romantic, as I wouldn’t necessarily find their couch/low table option appealing(for wearing a dress or for eating) for a date, but they have bar seating and one tall communal high-top and some very tiny standard height two-tops that work for the more long-legged among us. Both the guacamole and the ceviche come with a moat of chips around them. It can be an excessive amount of chips for two people(this coming from a girl whose last meal on earth would be bottomless chips and salsa!). You’ll also run out of table space if posted up at the aforementioned tiny two top. The guac and ceviche are stellar. You should 100% order them. Not 75%, not even 99.9%, but 100%. Clean, crisp and fresh. The carnitas blew me away. The meat was heaping and the flavor was spot on. I wish there were 26 to an order, but two is the more appropriate for a meal out on the town. They definitely excelled in the drink category. The drink order was repeated throughout the meal, as we couldn’t force ourselves to stray from the originals. I sucked down the Fiesta Margarita and felt really good about it both times, probably because it had a healthy twist to it(Avión Silver Tequila Infused with Ginger, Lime Juice, Carrot Juice)! Oh, and the churros! They’re served in a # shape and come with a cold Mexican chocolate cream. You might be surprised by the chilled temp at first, but you’ll continue to dip once that first drop of cream hits your tongue. What I loved most was watching the owner hustle to ensure his restaurant was in tip top shape for every customer. He’s a peach… you can just tell.

Oh I’m such a fan! Friends were visiting us from Chicago and we wanted to take them to a really nice brunch place. We took a gamble with Azucar and it paid off! Love every aspect of this place, the ambiance, service, the food(OMG) and the place had us leaving with a smile. Our server Wally(I hope I remembered right) was the sweetest! He had a charming smile and an energy that certainly added to our experience dining/drinking there.

A lounge that serves Mexican inspired street food and Latin inspired cocktails? Hell yes! Food items are around $ 7 – 10, while their cocktails are around $ 12. The Azucar has a nice kick to it if you’re into that. I’m very happy the bartenders have a heavy hand. ;) The crowd is definitely lively and fun, so it’s a perfect place for grab drinks after work/during happy hour*, catching up with friends, or pre-gaming for a ratchet night out. * Happy hour is daily from 4pm-7pm.

Local neighborhood gem! I came here for Taco Tuesday the first time this week. Pretty sweet deal. I wasn’t expecting the tacos to be as good as they were-very surprising for vegetarian. They only have two options and the other being beef. The margaritas are delicious, and more importantly be sure to say hi to Edgar. Best server EVER.
