The burger was juicy and grilled to perfection. I asked for no pink. Sometimes the cook is over zealous and burns the meat to be sure itherr is no pink. The cook at Bill’s Place cooked my burger perfrctly. The handcut fries were so tasty. Staff was friendly and attentive. There’s a reason Bill’s Place has been in business since 1959.

Cool place that I want to love. It’s old and the people are nice. Unfortunately the food is marginal — small patty, limp fries, gross old condiments. And, their blue cheese dressing was subpar. Need that for the fries.

A-team was not on duty last friday at 6p. Asked for medium got medium well. Old fries were mixed in with freshies which is never a good idea. CC machine broke when it came time to pay so they made me go across street to ATM which adds $ 3 to cost of meal. Boo! Too bad, the last time i was there(8 yrs ago) it was excellent.

Staple in the community. Been around forever. Had the Reuben and it was OK. Meet was super chunky which is good but a little dry. Onion rings were really good. Overall expected a bit more the cash. Wifey had an omelet and it was definitely big enough for her. Free refills ok drinks is a plus.

I was craving a good burger so bills was close but I should have drove the extra10 min. The one good thing is they cook there burgers to a good med rare. My roommate and I got«the works» and«the Shelton» burgers. The works was pretty goo but the Shelton was soaked it what tasted like ketchup and relish. Last but not least the fries were dry and half were cold. Not a good 1st impression.

I love the food at this restaurant! Not a grand looking at the outside. This place is a gem. This is not my first time at SF but I want some place new. Therefore, I tried their Giant Burger with egg, with sweet potatoes fries My friend saw it and follow the same. Not just look good they taste really good. Fast and good service.

Well, all of the reviews of this place are tricky, someone says it’s the best burger in the world and someone hates it so much. I tried the«Famous Bill’s Burger #02» which is another name of double cheeseburger. Honestly, the burger itself is AWESOMEAF. The meats are juicy and the bacons are crispy, prefect job. Unfortunately, the fries are not as good as other reviewers said, it tastes like noodles or even worse. Personally, I would prefer the Burger King’s fries than here.

This is literally not just the best burger place in town, it is the best burger place in the world. I’ve had burgers in Europe, the US and even Japan, and Bill’s is just fantastic. Granted, the decorum feels tired and cheap, but it’s not about the way it looks, it’s about the way it tastes! Meat tastes just… Incredible. Like meat. Fresh. Fries are handmade and taste better than anything else I’ve ever had in a restaurant(no one can beat my grandma’s recipe). The staff is always courteous and I’ve never seen any problem occurring with any other table. I always take a Bill’s #2 with two patties. My wife takes the 49ers. With two non-alcoholic drinks, the bill ends up at around $ 35. You’ve got to go there. It’s truly what an American burger should taste like!

I really don’t understand why this place only has 3 and a half stars. I don’t give it a five only because a place has to have no issues to get a five with me generally. Why do I love this place? I love the neighborhood. What’s not to love about the Richmond district? Eric Mar! The man! Love him! I love this place. Old school burger joint! Counter! I love the workers, all hard working and friendly folk. I Love the burgers! The burgers, get this, the burgers are FRESHLYGROUND on the premises. Where else can you get that? Nowhere I know of! Excellent fries. Outdoor garden(A little worse for where, but nice). Just go check it out if you are in the Richmond. Headed to the Legion of Honor for some high art? Take in some real San Francisco working class culture.

Alright, going to a burger place while In Japantown in SF. What’s the deal, Camille? I know, I know. We parked & it was right there, we were starving. Parking on a Saturday afternoon wasn’t bad at all. It is metered parking, I didn’t look around for parking garages. It was an amazing find considering the place was actually pretty legit. It has an old school ‘murica appeal with White House china displayed all over the walls. It also has chandeliers despite the casual atmosphere. You can see the cooks cooking your meal in a diner-esque set-up. They had bar seating as well as outdoor seating. The outdoor seating was actually pretty cute but it was a little too windy for us. We sat down & they brought us menus. We ordered. I ordered the Grilled Cheese with Potato Salad. The potato salad came looking like a scoop of vanilla ice cream, I thought that was super cute! The grilled cheese and potato salad were super yummy! I tried some of my friend’s fries, BOMB! You can tell it’s freshly cut potatoes, almost like In N Out fries. Yummers! The bathroom is a one stall bathroom, FYI. You pay up front at the register. Great food, great service :)

The Works burger was really close to the perfect burger. Medium was truly medium. I didn’t like the French fries, seemed like the wrong type of potatoes, not the right fried texture, but tasty enough. Quantity was outstanding on a Kona coffee milkshake — the extra served with it – overall enough to fill the glass over two times(glass admittedly not huge, though). Service cheerful and attentive, not over or under. Prices are way too high. Burger should be doable by a long established place in a nothing-special storefront like this for about $ 10 tops, not over $ 14. Milkshake worth $ 4, not over $ 6. Why one star off? I sat at the bar and the whole time I was there, with no one sitting nearby, the place smelled like a gym bag, or really more like spray-on men’s sport scent deodorant. Funny, now I read the other reviews complaining that it smelled rotten… maybe Bill’s over-reacted and shot the place up with Right Guard.

The burgers here are delicious and fresh. They have a lot of different and unique burgers to choose from, with fun names. Fresh cut fries too! Our server was very nice and attentive! They even lent us their phone charger while dining! Only thing taken a back by was the prices… A little bit high for a burger and fries. Soda is 2.99?! I’ve never seen any restaurant charge $ 3 for a soda! They also make bloody Mary’s and screwdrivers which could be fun for Sunday brunch?

My 89 year old Auntie has been going here since the beginning of time, I believe. I last wrote a review in 2008 but am revising the review since the place reeks of vomit. And I’m not talking a faint whiff in the realm of «does that smell like vomit in here?»…this is like that«smack you in the face» kind of rank smell on the order of someone just upchucked their cookies 5 minutes ago. WTH. I am not eating at a place that makes me gag just walking in the door. What the hell happened to this place? My auntie says in her 89 year old voice to the staff before we leave, «WHATHAPPENED? DIDSOMEONEJUSTTHROWUPINHERE?» I love her.

Decent. I love a diner. I love a burger. I love a random chandelier or two. I love old school. But honestly, for me, Bill’s was a disappointment. I appreciate the nostalgia. I wanted to love Bill’s Place. But the burger was mediocre. Old school, yes. Classic & simple, yes. And the french fries? I thought they were meh. I thought«why don’t they do McDonald’s style fries?» I think the same thing at In-N-Out. Maybe I’m just spoiled w the pluther of gourmet burger options we have in SF. Nah. I love a Smashburger or a Super Duper just as much. Regardless, Bill’s Place is a classic. There’s not an SF native(past 30) that hasn’t got their burger on here. And the burger names are classic… The Carol Doda. The Herb Caen. Everyone should support the small family businesses. Everyone that loves old school & diners needs to come here. Belly up to the counter, order a shake. Appreciate the classics. Bill’s is solid. 3 stars.

I ate a healthy grilled cheese so I dont qualify enough to review their food since it’s mainly burgers! But their milkshake was sooooo good and the waiter was extremely nice. Regardless, the seating outside was beautiful and I loved the mini pond and it was just relaxing and nice.

Bill’s Place is an old fashioned burger joint, and they’ve been there forever. I like to sit at the counter and get the Cheeseburger #1, which is a 1⁄3 pound patty, with a slice of American cheese and a slice of bacon. It’s just right. The burger comes with a side of fries, which is nice and crispy. They say that their beef is ground fresh daily, and that their fries are hand cut, and it really tastes like it.(their burgers are really beefy tasting, and their fries taste super fresh and crisp) If you like a good honest old fashioned burger, then you can definitely get one of those at Bill’s.

I’m a sucker for good burger joints and this place looked like the perfect place for it. Loved it as soon as I walked in. Outside the windows still said St. Patrick’s Day,(which had passed six days prior to my visit), but inside, the décor was set for Easter. My friends who live in the area said they decorate for every holiday. I like that… a lot! Tons of burger choices and the all have names. I had the«Letterman Burger, $ 10.95, which came with avocado and alfalfa sprouts, and I had fries that came with it. The presentation wasn’t spectacular. The toppings were off to the side. The burger was big and juicy. Cooked just right. They say it’s a 1⁄3 pound patty, but it seemed bigger. It’s cooked on a grill… old school style. It didn’t taste seasoned at all… I mean not at all. It was a big burger, but not very flavorful. It sat very heavy in my stomach. The fries were terrific. They are the«real» fried, not frozen. I’m glad I went. I won’t go back, but I don’t regret trying them out. It was a very cool place to have lunch. When you go, be sure and check out the back patio and the Koi pond. It’s a hoot!

I think I’ve been in here three times – once a long time ago, and then twice over the last year. And do you know what? I don’t think I could tell you the difference between any of those trips. That’s a compliment – this place is timeless, straightforward, and consistent. From a culinary standpoint, there is a long list of places I’d go for a burger before I dialed this place up on the old map. But it’s really not about the food. They do a decent burger, and they have a ton of them – many named after local celebrities – but it’s never been anything that’s blown up my skirt. No, instead, what you have is a big menu of decent burgers, from a place that doesn’t really pretend to serve anything besides decent burgers, decent fries, and some shakes. There are, of course, other options. But in a town that takes food very seriously, it’s kinda nice that there’s an old-school burger joint that doesn’t buy into the fads, the trends, the craze, and instead just does their thing. Stick with the simple burgers. The fancier I get the less I love them. I had one with a beet in it, and another sandwich served over spinach, and while they were both just fine, I would have been happier with a good old cheeseburger. And probably pass on the shake. It’s fine, but for the size, and price and liquid consistency, you might be happier finding a different dessert option. Not that it’s bad. No frills at Bill’s. That’s nice.
