I’ve been eyeing this place for quite a while, we finally managed to come. When you walk in you’ll notice that this place is really hipster, which is not a bad thing. The menu is really clear and easy to understand. We ordered a combo banh mi, which had mortadella, pork and pâté. The quality of meat is definitely superior than a average banh mi, however your definitely paying more than your average banh mi(almost double). The banh mi was good, I wouldn’t say I was blown away though, the bread was too toasted, but all in all it was good. I’d come back here since the food was pretty decent and the employees are super nice.

Very cute spot with delicious sounding banh mi choices. I ended up getting a classic banh mi for comparison reasons, but think I probably would have been better off with something very different. It was not a good banh mi compared to traditional Vietnamese shops!

Soggy imperial rolls. Ugh. Not a single Asian person behind the counter or in the kitchen. Pre-made iced coffee. About as far away from genuine Vietnamese food as you could possibly get.

I love and crave Bun Mee all the time. Today I had their grilled lemongrass pork sandwich with a friend egg, and I was in heaven. I love that is serves excellent food with no frills.

Found this little Bun Shop on a walk through Lower Pacific Heights. For an unassuming little counter-service restaurant, it’s quite fantastic. I enjoyed the Belly Bun with a fried egg topping and a side salad to balance it out. It was one of the messiest banh mis I’ve ever had, but it was so tasty I found myself licking my hands over reaching for more napkins. I left full and satisfied for under $ 15. Keep your eyes peeled for this place on your next stroll down Fillmore.

I am really disappointed to have to leave this review. I have been to this location and ordered food from them many times. However, a few nights ago I order through eat24 and got a confirmed delivery time of 45−60min. At an hour an 10 min I messaged Eat24 to see where my food was, they said it would be there in about 10 min, that the restaurant got busy and the delivery time went up. Thats fine, but I feel like they could have easily called, texted, messaged through the app to let me know. They didn’t. Whatever, so my food was supposed to now take an hour and twenty min to show up, which is kind of silly when it is some sandwiches. But, my food doesn’t show up for an hour and forty min. I understand things get busy, but you can communicate with your customers. An hour and forty min is absurd. That alone would have left me a bit annoyed but there’s more. The delivery guy dropped my food. Sweet potato fries spilling out on the floor leaving a trail to my door, he sheepishly handed my a torn bag and it contents piling them up in my arms reassuring me, «its all there» No it wasn’t. And its kind of gross that my clearly just hit the floor fries are now what I’m supposed to eat. I get it, accidents happen, not blaming him personally, but I think everyone would be displeased with this situation. Missing from my order were most of my fries, the dipping sauce for them, and the sriacha I had asked for. Also the sandwiches were pretty messed up from whatever they fell on to. Now with my beaten and late food I sat down to devour what had moments earlier been on the floor, only to find that everything that was supposed to be hot was cold, and everything that was supposed to be cold was warm. Fantastic! Great food, terrible experience. Pretty annoyed with it especially since there is a $ 5 delivery fee…

Cheap and comfortable good bar. In Pacific Heights. No frills included just honest to goodness sandwiches and noodles that provide a quick n easy lunch for people on the move. The food is filling, crispy with a little space and a breath of fresh foodie air. It’s great to have options from Starbucks to Subway and something this. Unique had the potential for real market growth. Also, it’s YUM!

No idea why this place gets anything less than a five star rating. I had the tofu sandwich with a friend egg on top and it was INCREDIBLE. Super delicious, spectacular flavor. The veggies were crisp and added nice texture. I’m not a huge sandwich fan, but wowza, I’d do back to this place every day. The servers were helpful, friendly and attentive. Everything in SF is expensive, so $ 9 for a sandwich seems pretty normal to me. There isn’t a lot of seating, but it didn’t seem to be a problem during dinner. People came and went with enough frequency for there to be seats available when people wanted them. The table I had outside was quite pleasant, even though it was little wobbly. I would highly recommend this place!

Solid Vietnamese sandwiches if you don’t mind paying $ 7 – 8 for one. The place itself is trendy and has nice service. Tried the lemongrass pork($ 8) since the server said it was one of their most popular. I added pâté for $ 1 and that was a really good decision since it made the sandwich creamier. The pork was well cooked not the best I’ve ever had but overall good sandwich and nice location.

Do Not Order from Bun Mee if you are vegan. I ordered the Bun Mee Noodle Bowl with Tofu(specifically marked Vegan) at their Market St location and it was served with a spring roll with ground pork. With that kind of oversight, they clearly do not care about vegan/vegetarian diets.

Well, don’t expect a $ 2.50 Viet sandwich like your high school days. Sandwiches are a 7– 8 dolla holla(translation– $ 7 – 8). I got their five spice chicken salad which was a good portion and had good flavoring. We shared sweet potato fries which were crispy and delicious. Limited and cramped seating at this place– as with most restaurants in Fillmore. Makes it uncomfortable for the servers and customers to walk around, as there’s always a line through the center of the restaurant. Tis city life at times.

For Lunch a nice place to go, but only for that! I’m not a big fan of the sandwiches, but the rice bowls are a good and healthy option.

I’m a big fan of this cute little local chain. The ordering process and food delivery are quite quick and the waiting here is very minimal. The Vietnamese sandwiches are a bit pricier than other mom and pop shops around the city, but the ingredients are top quality and the bread is perfectly chewy and crusty. I recommend the Grilled Five Spice Chicken sandwich. The salads and entrees are excellent. The Bun Noodle Bowl is the closest thing to a true«bun», but has a unique Bun Mee take on it. When I’m craving a light lunch, a side salad and light bite do to the trick. For example, I enjoy the Mango Sesame Salad with the Pork and Shrimp Rolls.(the spring rolls are not deep fried like the egg rolls) My only complain: The takeout containers are excessive, creating more waste than they should

Still pretty good and still pretty pricey. Also, you will be dinged the phony«SF Health Fee» which should just be part of their price to begin with.(What’s next– water fees and electricity fees?). It’s Vietnamese-ish dishes for yuppies, and the mostly Latin staff does alright with the menu. Tables are a little claustrophobic and meat portions are slim for the price. It’s nothing like you’ll get in San Jose, but if you’re stuck in the Fillmore it’s not too bad.

I love all of the different options here. They’re not as authentic as some of the other banh mi shops but they pack so much flavor in each sandwich. The five spice chicken is a classic but go for the sloppy bun mee, catfish, and pork belly is goood too. Ooh and the salt and pepper garlic fries rock too! The shop is pretty small and can get crowded really quickly. Since they only have 6 tables most people grab take out. Bön apetite!

I’ll admit it, I’m the last person that should be reviewing a Vietnamese shop. I’ve had my fair share of bahn mi, but by no means didn’t grow up on the deliciousness. Popped in for an early dinner to-go. Staff was friendly and the space was cute. I’d happily dine if if looking for something quick and casual. Good variety of beer and a few wines on tap. We tried the saigon peanut bowl with pork, and the fried catfish sandwich. The bowl was good but the sauce to rice ratio was off, so once you got past the top layer of food, there wasn’t much sauce left. Good portion size though. The sandwich was also tasty, but same issue with the ratio. Two tiny pieces of catfish + too much bread and not enough veg… boo. A solid three stars.

This place is great for a work lunch to-go or if you want something fast and convenient. Combo Sandwich — nice flavor, bread is just ok. Catfish Sandwich — a lot more plain and bland compared to the combo. Stick with the Combo. Venue is clean and modern with plenty of seating.

Solid bet for quick and healthy Vietnamese basics at a workable price. They also have great takeout you can order with the Eat24 app if you live in the neighborhood. I run in often for a summer rolls or a five-spice chicken salad. Décor is also great, and staff is friendly.

I had the STRONGEST craving for a vermicelli bowl. Now, I love mom and pop Vietnamese places, so I know what legit Vietnamese food tastes like. This place, seemed like a great spot to try a v bowl, but I am sad to report that I experienced the exact opposite. I called in to order a «bun bowl» which is, «vermicelli noodles, shredded romaine lettuce, mama tran’s crispy egg roll, pickled carrots and daikon, cucumbers, jalapenos, bean sprouts, vietnamese herbs, peanuts, crispy shallots, nuoc cham sauce(vegetarian available) and your choice of pork, chicken, or organic tofu.» [as stated on their menu on Unilocal]. I went with the pork option. They told me my order would be ready in 10 and I went in, picked it up and that was my experience in store. Their customer service was good, welcoming and cool. The restaurant itself is small, located next to the MAC store on Fillmore x Pine. Very hipster yet has an industrial feel to it. On to the food. I noticed right away the noodles were very slippery/wet when I peeked from under the transparent to-go container. That was different. Usually when I order this same dish elsewhere, the noodles are drier, and cold.(Strike 1). Next I noticed the pork is a weird brown with hues of gray– I was expecting a nice colored BBQ pork of some sort.(Strike 2). Last but not least, anyone that’s had a v bowl from a legit place knows the sauce you pour over the dish is arguably the«icing on the cake». But for Bun Mee, their sauce which, in my opinion and experience, should have been more«fish saucey» and not so malt vinegar-y.(Strike 3 — You’re out!).(One of the) Saddest$ 13 I’ve spent. I gave it a try, but it definitely did not live up to the expectations I had about this place — especially given the amount of foot traffic they get during the day.
