I am soo sorry that some people have had a bad experience here. I know I’m not Brazilian, but I think I’m a pretty good judge of food. My husband and I found this restaurant on a whim after visiting the Asian Art Museum. So we had the lunch buffet. Not too bad. So we came back with my family a few months later and had the BBQ dinner buffet. Much better. They had a pretty good variety of meats. The flavors were pretty savory. The hot dishes were just as good, especially the stew type dish with beans. The sevice has always been decent, but very polite. We come back at least once a year. Never saw a bug in my dish or flying in my face.

What a disgrace to Brazilian food. Having lived there many years, I feel pretty competent in saying… BLA! How can you mess up something so basic and so delicious?!

Wow. This is just not good. I came here seeking a cheaper alternative to Espetus. Now I realize you get what you pay for. The service, food, cleanliness were all at the bottom of the barrel. Please don’t come here. You just won’t feel comfortable. There’s no way I could ever recommend such a place to anyone. The food isn’t good. The service is terrible. You’ll feel dirty as soon as you sit down. Just no. No. Bad.

The food here is a de minimus step down from Espetus but the prices are much more reasonable! This place is in the basement/first floor of the Hotel Renoir so the neighborhood leaves a little something to be desired. The restaurant itself is nice but this place does not stay afloat as a result of its ambiance. The Brazilian BBQ here is worth the adventure and anxiety of parking your car on the street anywhere nearby. The staff is good and attentive. Pass on the salad bar and fill up on sausage and chicken hearts!

In and around this immediate area, all the food places aren’t worthwhile. But while our first choice wasn’t open for lunch, we had to find the next appealing place, which was far and slim. We ended up here, a group of 7, since the name of the restaurant would have been better than say the BK around the corner or some Chinese buffet that was tucked under a motel off Market. Well, the name doesn’t help this place out. I ended up getting a cheese-burger w/fries, stick to the safe stuff(more or less). The burger’s fine, $ 7. Soda can is $ 2. My friends got a mix of other things witha few getting Brazaillian dishes; but the menu here isn’t all«Brazillian», as it does include«American» food. The place reminds me of a Denny diner or something along those lines.

Tuna Fish Sandwich from a Brazilian café anyone??? 2 stars … that is what you get for not giving me an memorable Brazilian café experience at 1pm on a Saturday afternoon. Okay of course you would expect not much activity at this hour. The atmosphere of this place is a time warp into what appears a 50’s diner. So it has that casual appeal to it. But wait the prices on the menu weren’t so casual at about 12 – 15 a plate. I ordered the Tuna Fish sandwhich. And yea I could have ordered something Brazilian off the menu but my body wasn’t craving black beans at that hour. The meal wasn’t too bad just did not have anything glorious to it for a $ 7 dollar sandwhich. I mean it didn’t even have a pickel on the side!!! How outragous, I have to say! I WANTMYPICKEL!!! I was with a large group of peeps and they ordered some of the Brazilian fare which looked yummy except on thier plate was something confusing such as corn meal??? We couldn’t figure it out. ALLTOGETHER: Pricey Casual Atmosphere Decent food, nothing too go ga-ga over. **Would consider going back for the music, as there was a stage**

I’m Brazilian and had to review this place. I’m always trying all types of food and my German husband loves Brazilian food, so there we went all the way from San Jose and what a waste! The place is crappy, the neighborhood is dangerous and parking is a nightmare. #1 Ladies room: I saw a cockroach, it is OK the restroom of a crappy place in the Market St, but it gave me bad feeling. #2 Flies all over the place, I was all happy drinking my Brazilian soda«Guaran» just to find a dead insect inside my drink. #3 Don’t trust their website menu, they don’t have everything that is written on it. #4 We order the Camaro Bahiana(Prawns sauteed with red palm oil and coconut sauce) and it came with a side of collard greens that not only doesn’t go well in that kind of dish(I’m from the State of Bahia, so I know what I’m talking about) but we also found a dead insect on it. So, the whole experience was disgusting. The waitress was very nice, she didn’t even charge us for the dish where we found the insect. But still I rather pay for my meal instead of having it for free in that terrible situation. We will never go there again.

i feel so bad for this place. i’ve been to the real deal churrascarias in the ironbound district of newark and they’re cheap and amazing. usually $ 20 – 25. So, espetus seems like a huge rip off, and they probably don’t serve chicken hearts. café do brasil seems to be the one place that has remained on market despite the surrounding strip clubs and theatres. respect to them for sticking it out, but it’s a crappy walk getting there and a nasty view when you’re in there. it’s empty, poorly decorated and the food is mediocre. we got the rodizio, so we tried quite a number of meats. for $ 18, you get a little less than what you paid for. this city needs something that can actually compete with espetus. i can’t wait to go back to newark now.

Café do Brasil brings a good spread of Brazilian food — the famous Feijoada, the Munheca de Peixe, Bobo de Camaro, among other favorite brazilian dishes. It lacks a bit on the barbecue, for which we have other options in the city. During lunch time, they offer an excellent all you can eat buffet, with different food every day of the week. The appetizers are also very good. Make sure you try some.

Have only done their lunch buffet, which is a great collection of meat dishes(meatballs, charbroiled chicken, beans rice, two soups, and two simple, marinated fresh salads, one kind of a waldorf slaw and the other traditional seeded tomatoes and seeded cucumbers marinated in olive oil and vinegar). Not bad at all. Location is what it is. There’s live music erratically at nights, but I thought the place was fun. I also live not far in Little Saigon.

Step inside from the grime of the 7th Street and Market sidewalks, and you step into a place that spacious and with hospitable staff. They have the same type of Brazilian BBQ that’s at Espitus(sp?), and a little buffet bar for your veggies… and if you need more… more meat. This is more of a «dude’s night out» than a date place, and I’m glad it’s here in the hood to bring a little Brazilian happiness!

I just returned from lunch. I would like to give it more stars because the food is excellent. I had the Paolo special, which was tasty white rice, greens and a delicious stew of black beans, sausage and pork. My friend had the chicken special and it has the same side of rice, greens and that powder that they have in all the Brazilian dishes. We were the only people there. The waitress walked by with 2 different kinds of desert and we said yes. One was flan and the other was a wonderful citrus flavored mousse. The thing that turned me off was the bill. The desert was half the price of our lunch and the waitress had added up the bill and a «suggested service tip of 20%. «We thought the bill seemed high and when we read it realized why. Maybe they cater to tourist but I am not a tourist. Not sure if I will go back and I work a block away. The décor is cold and bland.

As far as I’m concerned, there can never be enough women who wear tutti-frutti hats. I thought everyone dressed like Carmen Miranda down there. But alas, none could be found in this Brazilian eatery in the wholly unappetizing area right off 7th Street on Market. I can say that because it’s my neighborhood. Once you get through the door, it’s a most generic-looking place in need of a Carnaval-style facelift. It’s not quite a favela but it does reek of company cafeteria even with the haphazard decorations on the burnt orange walls. Perhaps it’s the vintage 1970’s tables and chairs that make you think you’ve entered the twilight zone of Boogie Nights. But the atmosphere is the only problem here, as the food is really excellent and quite true to Brazilian cuisine. I ordered the national dish, the Feijoada Completa($ 12.95), which comes with a pork chop over collard greens and a bowl of shredded meats and sausage chunks bathing over steaming black beans. There is a condiment of rice and yucca flour that you are supposed to put in the bowl, a point that was made clear to me when I started coughing on the dry flour as I was initially eating it by itself. For carnivores maximus, they do offer an appetizing Churrasco for $ 18.25, which are big skewers of a variety of barbecued meats that a meat-server(a viable job in Rio, I assume) carves personally for you at your table. I’ve had this at the more expensive Espetus Churrascaria up Market near Gough where they have attractive young men serve. Here they have normal-looking guys so you can focus on the meat. Wait, that didn’t come out right. They serve many other dishes, including a buffet, and of course, a caipirinha that I will need to try soon, and the service is quite friendly. Definitely worth a stop even if you have to buzz by the vagrants to get here. FOOD — 4.5 stars… authentic, tasty Brazilian cuisine AMBIANCE — 3 stars… kinda generic in a not-too-pleasing area SERVICE — 4 stars… friendly even without the tutti-fruitti hat TOTAL — 4 stars… go for the great, hearty food and excellent service

I went here with a large group of people for a birthday celebration. Most of them didn’t appreciate being on the Market Street border of the TL. The food was pretty good, but if you want better flavor and quality, throw down a few more bucks and go to Espetus. This place can handle a large party(10 or so) and Espetus can’t.

I haven’t eaten here yet, but they make a mean caipirinha, and the staff is very welcoming.

«English as a second language» has two meanings. There’s «It’s literally my second language» and then there’s «it’s usage suggests a hidden second language.» For example, take the word«interesting.» It can be the«interesting» associated with peaking curiosity, or it can be the«interesting» that means… not so interesting at all. Which brings me to this restaurant. It’s «interesting.» The best thing about this place is the display of meat brought out on a long iron rod. First chicken, then hot dogs passing as Chorizo, then sirloin, then tri-tip, then ham sitting awkwardly on a pineapple. It’s an awesome display of meat to be sure. Actually it’s «interesting.»
