Something different for the neighborhood, i work nearby and get sick of burritos everyday. their pizzas are more than enough for one person. Decent salads too.

I always order their Artichoke Pesto pizza which is pretty good. It’s thin and crispy with just the right amount of toppings. The personal pizza is large enough to fill me up for lunch. The other menu items look good but have never really caught my interest. Only going here for lunch, the place has never been terribly busy(not sure if that’s a good thing or not). Prices are reasonable. The service is friendly but not necessarily fast. The dining area has never been consistently clean as we’d always find tables with crumbs from previous patrons. There was one time we sat in a corner and I couldn’t help notice the fowl stench of urine. We were sitting near a door and wasn’t sure if the door led to an employee restroom or if someone had brought in their pet and didn’t quite clean after their mess. Either way, it left a bit of a bad impression for me. I actually haven’t been back since. If it’s any consolation, this was a one time incident which is why I’m not giving it a lower rating. If the dining area was kept cleaner, I’d give this an additional star. In the mean time, I’ll be taking my orders to go.

There are places in a city where its fabric is a little threadbare. Sometimes it’s a result of poverty(the South Bronx), urban renewal(Albany and so many others), or the aftermath of war(Berlin). Sometimes it’s the place where a neighborhood is shifting — where its definition as one thing has faded, and a new definition is forming. The place where SOMA, the Mission, and Potrero gently brush each other falls into the last category. Even though there is commerce here, and living space, there is a palpable emptiness, and the sky seems bigger. I like places like this. Café Harrison sits in the middle it, half bistro, half shed. It’s a great place to snag a cup of coffee and maybe a sandwich, grab a seat out front, and observe the city re-weave a patch of itself.

Disclaimer: I’ve only ever eaten outdoors, on the patio, in the summertime. Thus far, Café Harrison has been an awesome place to spend lunchtime. My first, sun-kissed mozzarella panini was delightful, and there was no arguing with my order a few weeks later – an excellent artichoke pesto pizza. The last time I was there, I ordered what was a nearly perfect calzone – I found the crust delightfully thin and just shy of crispy. The filling of sausage, sun-dried tomato, mozzarella and other delights was hot, fresh, moist, but not obnoxiously oily like you might expect a calzone to be. The wait staff of two is nice and gets orders out real quick-like.

Very good panini, not too expensive, and I really enjoyed that they offer a side salad with the sandwich. Only open 8 — 3pm during the week. Breakfast update — I wish I could this place 4.5 stars. My review above was for lunch, pretty good, the breakfast was awesome. The guy made me an egg white panini, complete with fresh tomatoes and spinach. And he cooked the eggs up with the espresso machine, smart technique, no butter or oil needed, and minimal clean-up. He even reduced the price when I told him I didn’t want cheese. Four stars for lunch, five for breakfast.

Put that tongue away Alyssa R. — that’s rude! =) However, I must agree with your Unilocal. I’ve frequented this sweet little café many times with Alyssa R. and our lunchtime crew and agree that this place should be rated higher. I find the staff to be delightful. They’re a little understaffed but they make up for a little bit of a wait with friendly service. The paninis rock my world! Crispy on the outside and mmm yummy on the inside!

A little café at the end of 14th Street. It’s in what used to be IMG Home, one of San Francisco’s swankest rug showrooms, and they’ve put the massively disproportionate kitchen equipment they seem to have inherited to good use. Every day they make homemade soups, calzones, pizzas, cookies, muffins. The décor is a Mediterranean and a little odd, and the outdoor area does its best to achieve an urban gentility in the shadow of Best Buy, the animal shelter and the massive and disturbing Wall Dances mural. One of the partners just brought in the food delivery for the day and the room is full of smells — fresh basil, chopping garlic, mushrooms grilling in the press. The radio is tuned to one of those morning commute channels that’s 70% talk and commercials, reminds youf how rarely people listen to the radio anymore.

This is probably my favorite lunch place in the area. Excellent paninis, which come with a yummy side salad. Unfortunately, it seems they’ve raised their prices some since I first started coming here a year ago. And today’s salad was a little lacking in size and toppings. Hmm… Well, I’ll still come here as lunch options within walking distance from my office are pretty lacking. They also serve pizzas for lunch, but they take a bit longer to make, so be prepared. Oh, and there is outdoor seating for fabulous sunny days like today!

Wow, I’m surprised this place isn’t rated higher. I’ve been here a few times and have never been witness to staff spats or incompetence. As far as closing early goes… um, hours of operation are written on the door. It’s not like they’re closing early to spite you. In my experience, the food stands up. I’ve had a really good bowl of french onion soup and a delightful panini here, with no complaints. For there being only one cashier and one cook, I’m surprised the food came as fast as it did. So there.(I am sticking my tongue out at you.)

i go there maybe once or twice a month out of pure desperation. Prices are too high, the two guys that run the place are always fighting with each other, which makes me feel uncomfortable. One time they even gave me the wrong food! Oh yeah and if don’t have a lot of time to kill don’t go there, it takes forever just to get a salad. They close early so if you want a snack after 3 good luck!!!

Doesn’t pesto bruschetta sound like a delicious snack? It isn’t when it’s made with stale pesto from a jar. EDIT: They changed owners and it got a little better so I’m giving them one more star. Still has problems, though.

So I walked in and ordered a bagel with egg and cheese, which was $ 3.50(a bit pricy). I also asked whether they could make it with egg beaters or egg whites. The person at the counter had no idea what I meant, but after a while, she asked if I didn’t want the yellow part of the eggs. I nodded. I suppose this was the first egg whites-only omelette the line cook had ever made, as it came out pretty runny. The bagel got soggy before I could even bite into it. The bagel seemed like the frozed variety, and the cheese was rather bland. Overall, somewhat below average on my bagel experience list.
