Had the pleasure of ordering birthday cakes from this place for the office. Ordered a Mixed Berry Cheesecake for one order and a Flourless Chocolate Torte for the other. Both, were fantastic. The Cheesecake was soft and rich with a crust that had a strong base and harden base(which is perfect for cheesecakes imo). The Flourless Chocolate Torte was delicious as well. It really reminded me of a brownie cake which is not a bad thing. Will come order cakes from this place again since this does seem like the cream of the small crop for cakes within the financial district.

Café M runs like a well oiled machine meaning no matter how long the line is, they’re able to take and fulfill orders correctly and move people quickly thru the line. Their customer service is outstanding as I hear them recall people’s names and usual coffee orders with a smile. They’re very personable. We fax in our order, confirm it and can pick it up on time with everyone’s food clearly labeled with their name on the packages and nothing wrong. The food is really good and fresh. We love their Chicken Pot Pies, variety of Quiches that are great for both breakfast or lunch, Tomato Soup(though it’s too rich for me), Chicken and Portobello Mushroom Salad and a number of their Sandwiches. Their desserts and cakes are delicious. It’s nice to know I can go by to pick up a cake to bring to a dinner party at the last minute.

Their salads are pretty good(although i feel like you get more«bang for the buck» at SF Soup co.) however their cakes are BOMB!!! Their chocolate cake with the fruit on top is prob one of the best chocolate cakes i’ve ever had.

I was in the area in-between appointments and wanted a small, warm meal. I found Café Madeleine through the Unilocal app. And what a find! It’s small, super cute, with really good food. I got the chicken chipotle quiche with cilantro along with a café au lait. I had a similar meal in Lausanne, France, so it was a nostalgic meal for me. I took my meal to the rooftop park nearby, and having the Transamerica Pyramid in the background was a nice backdrop to this nostalgic meal. The quiche was light with a bit of smoke and spice from the chipotle. I had three choices for my coffee, and I got the Viennese, which was good. I’d like to come back and try a pastry.

The mini cakes are more beautiful than tasty I would say, but is definitively a nice touch in the heart of the financial district where a touch of color among so many shadows of gray can change your expression from livid to vivid! I haven’t tried the sandwiches so I don’t discard going again during my lunch break. Surly is a nice coffee shop to have a nice caffeine dose plus your very Frenchy decorated sweets.

I wish i got the panini rather than the sandwich. Sandwich was okay. I was expecting it to be warm since it was baked chicken but it was cold and a bit more greasy than i was expecting it to be . Since their pastries were so pretty and i love my sweets i decided to get the matcha dome which had a matcha outer smooth n creamy texture with sweet bread on the bottom and a tangy cream in between. Really enjoyed the matcha dome it was not too sweet and had a nice mango like taste along with a not too overpowering but definite matcha taste . The interior of the place is really pretty as well. Its pretty small if you wanna sit and eat but most people didnt seem to eat in

My brother-in-law recommended this place because he loves their hot chocolate, but I love this place because of their delicious paninis. I always go for the tomato and mozzarella panini and add prosciutto– and it’s amazing! It’s a great spot for lunch but I usually take it to go, as it’s a pretty small café and it gets super busy during lunch. The customer service is pretty great honestly. There was one day they forgot the prosciutto on my panini and I was so upset, but I was already at work and didn’t wanna go back. I came back the next week and the girl recognized right away and offered me a free panini for the mixup. Definitely worth a visit, food is good and the décor is really cute.

Sometimes, it feels so good to be bad. Since this is one of those weeks that feel as though it stretches forever, I decided that it is in my sanity’s best interests to eat dessert for lunch. And so I set out on a mission to find something decadent within walking distance to me. Hello, Café Madeleine! It is a small space that almost immediately drew my eyes to their beautiful sweets. They had colorful desserts expertly and artfully done. They had chocolate creations. They had pudding. They had crème brûlée. They had cupcakes. They had… At this point, I stopped looking at what they have and just allowed my eyes to zero in on something that would be my «bad» this day. I ended up getting the Evasion. They reminded me of Baked Alaska because of their shape, and honestly, once you have that association in your mind, how can you choose anything else? So I dutifully read what is this beautiful thing. It is chocolate ganache with crème brûlée filling, and the only words in that description I was not crazy about were«with» and«filling»(and they were my least favorite words because they are not food words). And boy, did I choose correctly to do my bad deed of the day. It was rich and creamy and not at all cloyingly sweet. The week just suddenly became more bearable! Great desserts within walking distance to me with fast and smiling customer service? You know I would be making a beeline to Café Madeline next time I get the urge to feel good by doing something bad.

A small small piece of cake cost nearly $ 6! It was delicious but definitely not worth it.

Great grilled sandwiches and baked goods and pastries. Reasonably priced for downtown San Francisco, and they have a reward card that gets you a free sandwich every so many sandwiches you buy. The staff is friendly and busy as heck. During the lunch rush — a challenging time for many eateries — wheels have a tendency to come off a bit. It is not unusual to count 15 customers waiting for their order at any given time after 12 noon. I would suggest improving the ordering by numbering orders, make sure clients get their receipt with the order number circled, and calling ready items by their number instead of by the name of the sandwich /salad. With so many people waiting you’re bound to have multiple customers waiting for the same sandwich, and then the«Is it mine or is it yours» dance starts…

I had always walked by this café thinking it was only baked goods but I went with a friend who was a huge fan. She said their cobb was one of the best, so I got the cobb. I realized that Cobb is the perfect meal: It gives the impression of health but is really just a bunch of delicious food in one dish: bacon, avocado, ranch, egg. YUM. YUM. YUM. But really– everything looked good here. People walked out with sandwiches and I wanted their sandwiches; People ordered other salads and I wanted them too! Most importantly– it is hard to find affordable or not ridiculously expensive food in fidi, but Madeleine’s Café is not that bad.

I stopped by here for the first time after a morning in SF and needed a place to sit and relax and have a quick decaf coffee. I was attracted to all the wonderful looking french pastries and cakes on display! There was a short line and I had a very friendly counter server help me decide on the peanut butter cookie, since I was overwhelmed by choices and wanted a good cookie to go with my coffee. I should have tried a few other things but that was it. I really enjoyed my cookie, not too sweet and very fresh, not overly crumbly. I think the total for my coffee and cookie was around $ 6, not bad. I sat outside since all the tables inside were taken. It is a bit smallish inside with only a few tables, but there are lots of tables outside, so it is very nice to hang out for lunch or just dessert, in good weather. The place has a nice new feel to it, and the cakes and things are really well displayed, and are very pleasing to the eye. My coffee was very good also. Next time I will try one or more of the cakes they are known for.

They have an «express sandwich of the day» which used to be $ 3.50 and was on a potato rosemary roll. The flavor changes daily. Fast forward 2 years, the sandwich is now $ 4.25 and on a plain baguette. They usually sell out by 12:30-ish, but if the flavor of the day is good(my fav is the ham and brie) and you can pop in before 12:30 — then go for it. You can always call after 10am and they will let you know the day’s flavor It is directly downstairs from my office — so while I usually pack my lunch it is nice to know that I can get a good and fast deal nearby if I don’t pack one. I do miss that old rosemary roll though — it was delicious.

Just love this place. Weather I’m running in 10 minutes before they close, or placing a phone order, the staff is SO friendly. They have a variety of beautiful baked goods — cakes, mousses, cookies, etc. I’m slowly making my way through them. Also offer a nice variety of lunch options. The buratta salad is divine and they’re generous with the portions.

It was late in the day and they were cleaning up, but so far so good! I was still welcomed at the door by Viola, and she explained some of the things they offer. I liked her, she was very polite. So, I Unilocaled this place earlier expecting to try their cakes. Only my hunger set in and I ended up buying a couple of quiches instead. I just couldn’t stop staring at them versus the cakes. The quiches were about $ 7 each, and it included a side salad. I opted for the ham with burrata, as well as the other one with bacon. They tasted really good, only a bit more on the fluffy eggy side versus being firm and pie-like type. It wasn’t bad, I just wish it had more stability. Same with the crust. It just wasn’t flaky enough. As for the place itself, it’s really quite presentable! Clean, with one large table, and a table/bar row with high chairs. They do average between $ 7 – 9 for gourmet sandwiches, grilled sandwiches, and salads so it’s not so bad on the wallet. I like this place and plan to return again someday with a sweet treat. As for now, a solid three stars and worth a try.

It’s only fair I update my review since I have pretty much tried everything on the menu here. Before I had only tried a few things, but since working on the same block I have been a everyday customer. My go to in the mornings is a latte and either a chocolate chip twist or a almond croissant. My all time favorite sandwich is the fresh mozzarella with tomato and I always ask for the pesto spread on the side. The cobb salad and the butter lettuce are very good as well. It has been a while since I have had a cake from here but they always look mouth watering. The staff here is very friendly, even when it’s super busy.

This review is solely for the tartine shortcake i had… It is like any other cake i’ve ever had… and when i found out that they had an actual cake size for it too it just made me want to buy that also and eat it all in one sitting. Unfortunately, that wouldve made me a fatass so ill wait til the next event to make an excuse to go out to the city and buy it muahah Coffee is just okkk, but the service is friendly :)

LOVETHISPLACE! Not only do they have great coffee but the exterior and interior design makes you feel like you’re in a classy café in France! I accidentally dropped my ice coffee on the floor while adding milk and sugar… The workers immediately ordered me a new one and cleaned it up quickly! The workers even laughed and made the situation not awkward! AWESOMETEAM! This place is a tad on the pricey side for coffee but comparable to places like Starbucks! The coffee is strong and definitely keeps me kicking all day! highly recommended for a coffee pick me up during a long work day!

Good place for lunch or a quick pastry. They have good lattes and they’re not too expensive, but their French roast is terrible. It tasted burned. The bread they use for their sandwiches are very good. Can’t say anything about their pastries because I didn’t order one, but they look delicious!

Dropped in at around 3:30PM yesterday, and while there were plenty of free tables outside, and all of the raised stool window seating was available inside, I think that’s a little too late to drop in for lunch. There was still a great selection of desserts available, but the leftmost display held only a couple of lonely looking slices of quiche. Poor little guys. Luckily for me, though, my friend and I were there specifically for their desserts! She decided on the Strawberry Charlotte, and I went with the Chocolate Gianduja. Chocolate Gianduja — layers of chocolate sponge cake and chocolate-hazelnut truffle filling. ^^ One of the drawbacks to individual desserts, particularly cake slices like this, is that they are highly susceptible to drying out. I found the chocolate sponge cake to be a little dry, but I know that Café Madeleine is capable of making moist cake because I’ve had freshly cut slices from whole cakes that were ordered for office parties, etc. Oh well. The chocolate-hazelnut truffle filling was sooo good, though. It had a rich flavor, but wasn’t overly sweet or thick/heavy. Strawberry Charlotte — strawberry mousse with basil, wrapped in poppy seed ladyfinger cake with dried strawberries ^^ The poppy seed ladyfinger cake wrap helped to keep the cake and mousse inside very moist! The cakes in the display don’t come with descriptions, so the basil was quite a surprise to my friend. She said it took her a few bites to get used to the blend of flavors, but overall, it was a pleasant surprise. I took a bite and I think that the basil helps to add some freshness to the dessert. Really good! There’s nothing like getting to catch up with a friend over great dessert!
