Okay sure they serve French cuisine and it is named after an Austrian composer, but thats ok. Great food and a great staff make the meal enjoyable. Went there for my first anniversary with my gf and it was very very nice. Great date spot

We like to reminisce about our trip to Paris last summer every other day. So for our post-Valentine day dinner he booked Café Mozart b/c of the ambiance(and it was rated #1 restaurant at Open Table). The restaurant ambiance did remind us of the cozy restaurants in Paris. The food — not even close. The salad with brie cheese was mediocre. There was only two pieces of brie in my salad. The filet mignon was just okay. The only positive about this restaurant is that it was practically empty so we were able to enjoy a long dinner without being forced out of our table. Overall we won’t be coming back to this restaurant.

I dunno about«the most romantic restaurant in SF». They didnt even have the mozart music playing o_O. The food on the other hand was good. My girl had the fettuccine alfredo and I had the salmon. Both dishes were very good. We had the house salad as the appetizer and it was a bit over dressed. The cheesecake desert tasted like it was in the fridge for a while– it seems like it absorbed some of the other fridge odors! Good place to go once– not a repeater… even if it was recommended by opentable. The restaurant was also quite empty. Uncle Vitos next door seemed way more livelier. Im going to have to try that place out next time.

Great food, nice ambiance, decent service. My fiancé’ brought me here for my birthday. I’d been wanting to try this place for quite some time, so I was really excited to do so on such a special occasion. We had reservations and were seated in a corner in the front room to the right of the kitchen. There are cute but cheesy pictures, silk flowers, twinkle lights, and old-fashioned wall paper everywhere. It feels homey and secluded all at the same time. The music is classical(which I love) and the bread is hot and freshly baked. We each had the prix fixe dinners for $ 35. I had the Chicken Dijonaisse, a salad, and ginger crème’ brulee. He had Prawns stuffed with crab, cream of mushroom soup, and white chocolate strawberry cheesecake. The salad and soup were small but good, the entrees we both amazing and perfectly portioned. My ginger crème brûlée was unique and delicious as well. The only complaint I had was with the coffee, which was really very bitter. I’m a huge coffee drinker, so that was a real disappointment. Halfway through the meal we saw a table open up next to the fireplace and we asked to be moved. Those seats are by far more romantic and very comfortable. If there’s an option, I would recommend asking to be seated there. The service was pleasant and timely. The server and the owner wished me a happy birthday multiple times each. The owner also came over and gave me extra hershey kisses at the end of the meal for good luck. All in all, a wonderful evening. This would be a cozy and fun place for Valentine’s Day or any intimate romantic occasion.

Soooooooo kitschy. I probably should have guessed this before entering the restaurant. Any restaurant that touts itself(on the window, no less) to be the«most romantic restaurant in San Francisco» should be taken with a large grain of salt. It reminded me of a quieter, non-family style Buca di Beppo;(Think weird statues, fake flowers, walls crowded with old-fashioned pictures, etc). Creepy atmosphere aside, the dinner was no good. I ordered one of the 3 specials, and even though it was very early in the night, they were out of my order. My boyfriend ordered a soup/salad/dessert combo which was utterly pathetic. It was about a teaspoon of soup, 3 leaves of lettuce and dessert, which had clearly been sitting for a while. The service was another issue. In «the most romantic restaurant in San Francisco,» you’d expect to be treated like the most special couple in San Francisco, kind of Lady and the Tramp style; it would at least go with the cheesiness of the decorations. The waiter(I think there was only one for the entire restaurant) was slow to do everything, and not in a «take your time» kind of way, but more in an understaffed kind of way. We did not feel special, unfortunately.

We booked a table at this restaurant through Open Table… we wanted something special and romantic. We walked over from our hotel. and we arrived 15 minutes early. I told the Maitre D that we were early for our reservation(there were a lot of empty tables — it was 7:30 pm.)…we didn’t mind waiting. or we would have gone to a nearby bar for a drink. but the Maitre D said«go downstairs and wait in our«waiting lounge». We went downstairs where another couple was waiting. there were chairs lined up in a hallway. We were right outside the lavatories, and what appeared to be a door to a private residence… we could hear a baby through the door. It smelled bad, and we sat there for at least 10 minutes with no word from the Maitre D. The restaurant is full of stuff… it feels like a musty grandma house. We decided to leave… we walked upstairs and when the Maitre D saw us. he said«yes.your table is ready»…and we told him that we had changed our minds… In fairness, we did not eat the food… but the overall ambience was bad… we couldn’t wait to get out of there.

For the life of me I cannot understand the positive reviews this restaurant has received. This may be the worst restaurant in San Francisco. The food I had was terrible. I ordered a Mahi-mahi with some dried-out raw coconut on top. One of the ‘nightly specials’. There was an orange-colored sauce that had a distinct chemical taste; I had to scrape it all off in order to eat the fish, which was not worth the trouble. I would have made a scene but didn’t want to ruin it for my wife, who had planned a ‘romantic’ evening at a ‘romantic’ restaurant. What a joke! On top of that the décor is tacky and looks like its been the same for thirty years. The host hassled the seemingly inexperienced server in front of us, getting us off to an uncomfortable start. It got worse when stale white bread arrived at the table in a cheap plastic picnic– type tray, with foil-wrapped pats of butter. What class. My instinct was to run out the door at that point; I’m still kicking myself for not doing so instead of waiting until I was $ 95 poorer. Do not even dream of patronizing this dump.

Café Mozart looked insane — I came here for a friend’s b-day. Suddenly I felt like I was in a different world. My mouth dropped when I entered the room — -I was in complete shock at the décor… Any experience like that deserves to be shared… This is a restaurant that is definitley not the typical… It was quaint, had the feel of being in a small french mom and pop restaurant in a small province in France? They had indian carpet on the floor, a mirror that looks like it is from the renissance era and little statues everywhere — some may say this may look tacky, etc but hey how many ppl can say they experienced eating in some place like this??? FOOD: Yummy! I had the pasta with Caviar… Creamy, yummy and generous… MY friend had the shrimp stuffed with crab… very tasty but just enough for one person. The Pork meatballs were delish and flavorful since it went well with the sauce Everything was good. WEDNESDAY there’s free corkage,…so yah I brought a bottle… This was a pleasant and private place to eat… This looks like a great place to go to during the winter… and great for an older crowd, older family, and couples who just want to talk and get some quiet time… oh yah, only reason it’s 4 and not 5 is because the ambiance is not poshy, upscale, etc… but the ambiance is not the usual either… worth a try and experience…(FORFUN)

This place is a charming little gem of a restaurant, tucked into a small space on Nob Hill. I must’ve walked past it countless times without even knowing it was there. This is not a place that advertises widely or loudly on the street level. Inside you get a nice«Old World» sort of feel. It’s a little kitsch-y with the Mozart stuff, but some of the old world European joints are that way. At least to American sensibilities. The space is pretty small, but you don’t feel cramped, instead it is more intimate. That’s saying something. The menu is good, nice selection. The food is fantastic. Their chef is amazing, and the fact that the kitchen is right in the middle of the place makes the dining experience all the more visceral. Staff was friendly and attentive. The maitre d’ was very personable, and he even plays the piano!

Lisa: This place is awesome! i have been back more than 10 times! Has a very homey feel to it and quite romantic. Service is excellent and super friendly. While some of the dishes here are mediocre, the boneless duck breasts with apricot sauce is what makes me come back time after time. And the salmon crêpe with caviar is definitely a MUST-ORDER for appetizers. Beef strogonaff is quite tasty too. overall, the duck and the salmon crêpe is what brings me back and i order nothing else. its perfect for a romantic night for two. Dona: The side of layered potatoes along with the duck breasts with apricot sauce makes the perfect entrée. Other than that, not too much goes on within the restaurant. Other guests socialize within themselves so it is not loud at all, the tables are a little older, but overall, I would give it 4 stars. It is not too romantic because the majority of the guests are on business or with family, not couples.

Scariest restaurant in the world. We walked in here after arriving late in San Francisco and having been pointed to Union Square by our hotel as a place with a lot of restaurants… yeah, if you like to pay silly money for tourist-trappity-crappity. Anywho, we went into Café Mozart because there was a sign outside that said«Dinner and wine for $ 13.50!» We went in and felt like we had been transported back in time, to the house of an 19th century paranormal serial killer. The creepy maitre-d leered at us that is was OK that we didn’t have a reservation and crammed us into a table almost in the laps of the closest other patrons. There was no music playing, and everyone was sitting silently. Oddly, despite it being nearly 10pm, everyone had menus and no one was eating. We look at the menu — it is literally impossible to eat dinner and have wine for $ 13.50 each. Total scam. The entrees were waaaay overpriced and there was a disclaimer that the restaurant would charge gratuity for parties of «TWO or more.» Two?! So, basically, they always charge gratuity. This seemed like a sign that the service/food was so consistently bad that they had to force tips from people. We realized that if we ordered from this menu we’d either 1.) be transported to a twilight zone where our souls would be trapped forever, eternally waiting to order or 2.) the food would be so mediocre that we’d want to kill ourselves for eating it. So we left and had a lovely dinner at Roxanne Café across the street. Phew! Close call.

I went to Café Mozart as a recommendation from a sales rep while I was shopping in downtown. She claimed that it was her favorite French restaurant and the most romantic restaurant in San Francisco, therefore my boyfriend and I decided to try it out. Ironically, when I arrived at the restaurant, the sign said«the most romantic restaurant in San Francisco», which made me question whether her family own the restaurant. The décor is very old fashion Victorian style, it is hardly romantic and I do agree with the many Unilocalers that it reminds me of grandma’s house. As far as food goes, it is decent, but certainly not«to die for». I enjoyed the ceasar salad and the duck breast with apricot sauce. Duck was cooked perfectly, but the portions was kind of small and bit overpriced in my opinion.

The décor is akin to someone’s German grandma’s living room. The owner/maitre’d is nice and pretty old school, although the waiter on duty could have used some more manners. I only had soup and a salad, so I feel like I got a good deal, but if you want main courses, they are a little pricey. The cream of celery soup and the little salad with baked brie were both yummy and came quickly. I recommend for light dining if you’re hankering for something French, don’t know about full meals.

Simply Lovely! Having left a nearby establishment after an interminable wait for service, my DH, myself and a good friend were now left to find a place for dinner. It’s Saturday night in Union Square and there’s a huge tradeshow in town. What are the chances? Pretty good, I’d say. Arriving at Café Mozart we were pleasantly surprised. The maitre d’ greeted us warmly and when we admitted we didn’t have a reservation he didn’t bat an eye. He kindly asked us to step down in to the waiting area below while he did some last minute scrabbling around. Within minutes we were seated at a large table right at the front window and in full view of the kitchen. The size of the cooking area was small but efficient and we enjoyed the show. We started the meal with a Kir Royale(my fave!) and perused the menu. Our server took our wine and appetizer order as we chatted and relaxed. I ordered the duck breast, and my husband and our friend ordered the filet mignon. We were all impressed with the quality and the presentation and our server was super attentive without being intrusive. Some might find the décor a little overpowering — the walls were covered in a faded rose silk paper with pictures covering every inch — but I loved it. It felt cozy and warm, and a gas fire in the hearth burned merrily with a bust of Mozart himself standing sentry on the mantel. Our friend commented that it reminded her of little places she’d found in Vienna. I liked the idea of patrons waiting out of view of the other seated diners. There’s nothing worse than standing over people like vultures to ruin a good meal. Even though the little place was quite busy the noise level was never a problem. As we left the maitre d’ thanked us for coming and handed business cards to each of us. He couldn’t have been more gracious.

if you miss your dead grand mother, if you love french food cooked by Chinese, if you have lost your mind, or can have dinner on acid, or on your way to a funeral, then you might enjoy the BEST food in nob hill in THE most romantic restaurant in sf.

Pretty good German(er.Austrian?) /Continental cuisine but kind of creepy because it looks like it hasn’t been redecorated since the 70s. It was overpriced for what you get. But then again, it’s the most romantic restaurant so pay up. Order a kir royale to start things off right!

Okay. I have to say that I am only giving it four stars because it has the nerve to proclaim itself San Francisco’s most romantic restaraunt. I pass it every day on my way to work and I have always sort of sighed and longed for Gay Pari as I passed by and let the sounds of the theme to Une Homme et Une femme sweep through my brain. I finally decided to just go one night on my way home from work. I ordered escargot. It was gross. But maybe it was because I was eating overpriced snails. And I could have gotten some for free to snack on off the ground on the side of my building. Oh well. Live and Learn.

«Ring…ring.» “Hello. What? I won the raffle for a trip to San Francisco!“ Frisco. Cosmopolitan. Sophisticated. Romantic. Foodie city extraordinaire. A trip to this city’s most romantic restaurant would be heavenly. Café’ Mozart claims this honour. I booked the reservation using an email address at the restaurant website. The confirmation arrived within a week. When we arrived for supper we were the only patrons and were seated at the window. A look around shows a time warp and I am back at Grandma’s house but where are the lace dollies. The meal was good and the service was attentive but not intrusive. At the till I asked a staff member to phone for a taxi but instead he went out into the traffic(much faster than at home) and flagged one down. What does the term romantic restaurant mean? Extraordinary food presented in a creative fashion. Good service. Ambience. Décor. An attempt to capture a special mood with someone special. My hunt continues for San Francisco’s most romantic restaurant.

«San Francisco’s Most Romantic Restaurant»… ? Marginally romantic, actually. Probably because Mozart is associated with the Classical period, not the Romantic period. Oops.

Self-proclaimed as «San Francisco’s Most Romantic Restaurant», I’d have to say that would entirely depend on your penchant for Hummels, silk flowers and busts of Wolfie himself. If your grandmother’s dining room is your idea of romantic, then bring your sweetie by tonight! I only eat fish and vegetarian items, so I may not have had the best items on the menu given it was French fare. But I found the scallops and the vegetarian platter to be just so-so for the $ 20 price-point(each). They were good, but I thought they could be a lot more flavorful. That said, the service was very good(although there was only one other person at the restaurant when we arrived at 9:30PM – way past grandma’s bed time). Also, this is known to be frequented by the San Francisco Twins, Vivian & Marion Brown — which is what drew us there in the first place. Definitely a place to take your mom — or even better, take your grandmother.
