All I can say to start this off is warm hand made fluffy fresh corn tortillas! with every order. I had the chile verde and my co worker had 3 tacos. Huge tacos… I will be back for sure…

Ask someone for recommendations for mexican food in the mission, they might direct you to la taqueria or el farolito. Ask me, and I will recommend you Chavitas. I recommend their chili verde or fried pork or any of their plates. You will get a salad, beans, chips, their spectular brown salsa, a tender, well flavored helping of meat, and a piping hot stack of their hand made tortillas, which perfectly complement any combination of items in the plate. Or explore anything else on their menu — nothing will disappoint. Find your favorites. Cash only, jukebox, and a collection of very interesting posters as you wait for your order. The server will help you with a smile. No lines.

I have been here a few times now. The food is very authentic and delicious. The prices… you can’t beat them. The servers there are very friendly and knowledgeable. I definitely will be back!

This rating is because of their dishonesty, not their food. Today my coworker and I both ordered a super burrito, she was charged $ 6 while I was charged $ 7.75. Both of our burritos are exactly the same size with the exact same fillings. The only difference was that we ordered it at a different time. This has happened to me before, where different waitresses charged different prices, but they were smaller amounts so I never really cared. Now they even took off their menu from the wall! My coworker told me to go and get my money back, but I decided to just never go back. If you guys decide to order from here, check their price first or the waitresses will cheat your money! No wonder why I never see a lot of people here… Thank you Chavitas for your dishonesty, I will never be back!

The burrito was everything I dreamt it to be for mad cheap, and it came with interestingly different chips and homemade salsa. Great opened late joint and super nice waitress!

I love this spot. The food is usually fresh and traditional Mexican delicious. Home made tortillas and breakfast here is so good oh … And affordable. This will be my go to home made Mexican spot in San Francisco.

I come here once every six months. Sometimes on the mark, sometimes the breakfasts are bland with no.spices. today, on the mark with the breakfast. First, a big bowl of chips, not store bought, but made themselves in the back. Then if you wake up early enough, the breakfast specials are a bargain. I normally have the Eggs al la Mexican, yes, can be bland but with handmade tortillas. Today, it was the chiqualaties(sp?). Nicely spiced with the chips just perfect soaking in the red sauce. Coffee, a bit Folgers, was piping hot. Always, some candy with the check. Did I mention the handmade tortillas?

So, I was super excited to discover this little hole in the wall and the birria WAS on point. The tortillas were freshly made. Then I made the mistake of coming back with my family. The food was significantly less delicious, there wasn’t any birria, and the tortillas were NOT homemade. It wasn’t HORRIBLE(no one got sick) and the portions were good, but I wouldn’t go back. Not even for the birria.

I need to go back here again and try some more things so that this place can earn a 5-star review from me. I love finding hole in the walls like these. Its a little further south in the Mission(closer to Cesar Chavez) which is great cause it wasn’t that crowded(early in the morning). I love that there’s an old lady in the back HAND-MAKING tortillas. They were huge and so delicious I wish I had ordered some extra to take home and make quesadillas with(which I did the the 2 I had). I had the Juevos Racheros and beans and rice. So awesome.

Food is Good, but they take FOREVER just to get it to you! Nothing worse than to keep someone waiting for their food…

This place doesn’t feel like San Francisco. It feels like Mexico, or like, you walked into an album cover for a record called, «1970’s Mexican Restaurant». We just got the super nachos, called in to go. Said it would be 10 minutes, and he was right. Little did I know, they were such a tradish establishment, they didnt have those on the menu. So the dude just made me a secret menu item! What a champ. They waited until we got there to add the jalapenos, which was nice. However, these nachos had no shredded cheese. I kind of thought that was the point of nachos. Normally, I’d be like, «harumph!» but in some ways, I’m glad they left them off. There were so many veggies and beans and slices of avocado, that we didn’t miss the cheese until we had almost devoured all of them. The chips were good quality chips, and all the veggies were pretty fresh as well. I might get nachos somewhere else if I were in the area, but if these were served to me again, I’d be down to eat them. Also, for $ 5.45 for a big ol’ container of nachos with fresh avocados is a great deal.

The best way to judge a Mexican restaurant is by the quality of their salsa. If they bring out bland and boring, barely edible salsa it’s not going to be good. THISPLACESSALSAISTHEBOMB. Perfect amount of kick and spice and the chips are golden. When the phenomenal waitress brought out our food(I ordered the enchiladas and my boyfriend a burrito) I was immediately impressed. Plenty of sour cream and the lettuce was real, not that shredded grossness you’ll find at subway. The best part? After digging in for a couple minutes my boyfriend turned to me and said, «I’m going to make a bold statement: this is the best burrito I’ve ever had.» So happy we stumbled upon this place.

Our waitress was very friendly, and my huevos rancheros and chips and salsa were fine. I don’t think I’d go out of my way to come here again, though, especially after seeing the place’s most recent health score report and the cleanliness concerns voiced in other reviews. The restaurant isn’t super clean, although I wasn’t struck by anything noticeably gross when my friend and I ate there one night.

Service was fine, atmosphere was decent, but the food was just bland and unappetizing. I won’t be back.

Great food, amazing value, and a cute waitress. I could not ask for more. I’ll definitely be back but I probably won’t order as much next time. I couldn’t finish it all!

Went there for the chilaquiles but was not impressed, and neither was my other half. I’d give it 1 star for food, and an extra star for friendly service. The place looks like it could use a cleaning. Correction: scrubbing. Also the menu on the wall/ceiling should get redone as it doesn’t look inviting. I can’t speak for their entire menu since this was my first time here. The salsa was good and so were the chips and homemade tortillas. They serve beer, so that’s a plus.

I used to live right above this place, but haven’t been back in years until today. Their super burrito with chicken is probably the best burrito in the city, IMO.

I feel really lucky that this restaurant is right by my apartment. They have outstanding chips and salsa — freshly deep fried. A huge upgrade from many more popular places. Their standard super burrito is maybe two-thirds the size of somewhere like El Farolito, but made with a lot of care — the cheese is well melted, the meat is outstandingly cooked, the filling is well distributed. By default, their super burrito has peppers and onions in addition to the meat, which I love. Staff is friendly, service is acceptable. There’s always a Spanish-language sports station on. I go here a lot and quite like it, and in most any other neighborhood, it’d be an easy five stars — it’s just that competition for good Mexican food near here so stiff, and frankly, if I lived even five or ten blocks away, I’m sure I’d find new go-to place, which means I’m not enough in love to bump it up to five. But seriously — go here. It’s good, never crowded, and cheap.
