Granted I am not a vegan but I was thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. We happened to be there on the last day of Restaurant Week and enjoyed the $ 40 set menu. The fried oyster mushrooms were excellent. Very fresh and meaty but it wasn’t greasy and the aioli sauce wasn’t too rich either. It was so good and more filling then expected. The Glazed Moroccan Carrots were a little bit too sweet for my liking but the carrots weren’t overcooked. Delicious. The only item on the menu we did not like at all was the tempeh. I guess faux meat just isn’t my thing. In addition to their food, the cocktails were excellent! We tried 4 different cocktails thought out the night and each and everyone of them were great. We dined at the bar and our bartender was attentive and service was excellent. Finally, a vegan place a meat eater also could enjoy. Looking forward to their opening at the new location.

Came for brunch and for restaurant week and left so happy and full! We decided on the Nutella French Toast and the Fried Faux Chicken and Waffles. The Nutella French Toast was solid. The toast was a little dense in my opinion, but I really enjoyed the addition of the candied hazelnuts. It gave the plate an extra bit of crunch and certainly elevated the nutella chocolatey/nutty flavor profile. But as much as I love chocolate, the Fried Faux Chicken and Waffles most definitely put the french toast to shame! The waffles were perfectly crisp but fluffy on the inside. The faux chicken was pretty much indistinguishable in my opinion. I could definitely eat this again and again! Each plate also came with seasonal fruit, as part of restaurant week. The fruit was freshly chopped apples and pears and also came with pineapple chunks, pomegranate seeds, and garnishes of mint. It was a very refreshing side dish. For dessert, we opted for the chocolate cake and the huckleberry cheesecake. The chocolate cake was a bit dry, but when eaten with a bit of the poached pear and the caramel sauce, it was a very solid bite. The huckleberry cheesecake on the other hand was otherworldly. The basil was definitely a bit in your face on first bite, but was oddly enjoyable thereafter. I was surprised at how well the tartness of the huckleberry compote, creaminess from the cheesecake, and bite of the basil all came together. The ambiance at Citizen Fox is very fun. The live band played good music, bar served solid drinks, and the artwork is lively and colorful — perfect for the Mission! Definitely a cool place to start off the weekend!

Delicious food, great drinks. LOVED the fried mushroom appetizer(kind of like calamari). My boyfriend had a delicious burger, too. Love to support vegan restaurants!

This is the best vegan café I ever been too. Try out the chicken waffles! The food is spot on and the cocktails are amazing. Highly recommended.

Their brunch is incredible! One if the best I’ve ever had, vegan or non-vegan. Don’t miss the chicken and waffles or the Benedict. Their Mimosas are 90⁄10 champagne to oj; my kind of breakfast drink!

Whoosh this place is great! We dined during«SF Dining Week» and scored a fab deal on chicken and waffles(yum!), bloody Mary(super tasty!), and kale caesar salad(super good!). The space is urban chic and I could hang out here all day. This was one of the highlights of my trip down from Oregon. It’s a new fave in the Mission.

**SF Restaurant Week Edition** Citizen Fox is great. Their dishes are thoughtful: well-plated, good portions with truly interesting ingredients and delightful flavors. I’m not vegan or vegetarian, and I don’t miss a thing here. I’m astounded at how quiet it is on weekday nights. Enjoy it while you can, folks, but please spread the word! The fox deserves a wider audience. Taking off one star because the SF Restaurant Week prix fixe is a scam. $ 40 for an app, entrée, and dessert. I don’t think you can pick a single combination of those three dishes(at least this week) that even amounts to $ 40, and yet when we ordered those three, they got thrown together under the rubric of SF Restaurant Week prix fixe and we received a blanket charge on the bill. In our case, it amounted to about $ 5 more per person than we otherwise would have paid. We can do math, but paid it without asking, because look, it’s $ 5 and we like the place… but come on, guys. And I guess it stuck with me, because here I am dedicating half this review to it. tl;dr: great food, must be absolutely mind-blowing if you’re vegan, order a la carte.

YES. YES. YES. Citizen Fox, you have satisfied my vegan tummy with your delicious food & cocktails. Came here on a Friday night for dinner and was pleasantly surprised to see the happy hour from 5:30 — 7:00(yay, $ 6 drinks, $ 5 small bites). The interior is great, a nice open space with plenty of seating and some unique art work on the walls for viewing pleasure. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar and the service was excellent, the bartender was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. We started with the Jack Rose cocktail, Rye Old Fashioned along with the brussels sprouts and spinach dip. The drinks were delicious and the food came out quick, served piping hot and had tons of flavor. For dinner the bartender suggested the polenta cake(and I am glad I took her up on this) and my boyfriend got the grilled cauliflower with beans. The portions were perfect, not too big but just enough to fill you up(with room for dessert of course!). We got the apple cobbler with fresh(rum raisin I believe it was) ice cream. The ice cream was SOGOOD, creamy texture, perfect flavor and paired well with the warm cobbler. Overall an amazing dining experience(that won’t break the bank) appetizers, entrees, dessert and two rounds of drinks came out to about $ 80 and I left full, happy, and wanting to come back again to try more. Can’t wait for the full restaurant to open soon & I’ll be back to check out the brunch as well!

Really bummed to have to announce my disappointment. SF vegans looking for a Millennium replacement need to hop the pond and come to Millennium Oakland. 2STARS: FOOD. 5STARS: Décor/space, service, bar.(Great cocktails!) My honey and I happened to arrive early, so we had a Try All The Things Happy Hour: Fried mushrooms(the best of the bunch but NOWHERECLOSE to Millennium); brussels sprouts with apple and fake bacon(mushy, undercooked, not exciting); poutine(great toppings but boring/crappy fries), half reuben(GENIUS idea – half is a perfect portion – but the least exciting vegan reuben I’ve ever had); saag paneer hot dip(genius idea too, weird texture but good). After trying all the above and being wowed by none, we decided to try the tempeh fried chicken with roasted carrots, broccoli rabe, and horseradish mashed potatoes. I once again had the experience that I’ve eaten far better versions of this at other vegan restaurants. My high hopes were dashed. The bar program, however, was great, and I’ll be back for cocktails. Great service too in a lovely environment. Perhaps I’ll come back in 6 – 12 months to see if they’ve improved anything. Vegan food is important and needs to be supported.

The best brunch I have had in my entire life. The entire menu is vegan, and has interesting and innovative brunch items that are incredibly high quality for the price. Absolutely blown away by the balance of textures and flavors in my vegan Benedict. My friend ordered the chicken and waffles, which I was expecting to be the typical vegan version that I never care for-pleasantly surprised when her gorgeous plate arrived with a fluffy waffle, fruit, and crispy fried«chicken». Apparently these chefs won an award for best fried chicken, and it just so happens to be vegan. Delicious. The bloody Mary’s were also incredible-strong, and perfectly seasoned. I absolutely love this establishment and hope to support their future endeavors. San Francisco needs more creative, fresh, plant based food, and this spot is the answer!

Great addition to the neighborhood! If this is a pop up, coulda fooled me. The décor is easily the nicest pop up I’ve ever seen and they had live music for brunch ya boot. We started with Bloody Marys which were really really good. They put another establishment down the street to shame. We shared the brussel sprouts, benedict and French toast, all of which were delicious. The benedict was my favorite, topped with tofu scramble and huge portions of avocado. The Nutella French toast was great too and acted as a dessert since it was so sweet(came with some creamy butter and maple syrup as if the Nutella wasn’t enough :) Can’t wait to come back for dinner and also brunch again…

I cannot wait for the permanent restaurant! Citizen Fox is by far one of the best vegan spots in town, and is one of those restaurants your meat eating friends would never know was plant based if it didn’t say so on the menu. Really nice atmosphere and very tasty meals. And, surprisingly, very large portions at reasonable prices which is often unusual for their more upscale presentation of food. The chicken and waffles were out of this world! Will definitely be eating here regularly.

Came here Friday night with a reservation my friends made who heard about this new vegan restaurant from a friend. I’m not vegan but I enjoy trying all variations of food. It was a party of 5 and got to taste a number of dishes. From the fried oyster mushrooms, roasted Brussels sprouts, and garlic herb fries on the happy hour menu. Main dishes: stuffed cabbage rolls, fried chicken tempeh and I ordered a pasta dish(sorry don’t see the name on the menu now). The dishes were full of flavor. I would have never guessed it was vegan except for the tempeh of course. Next time I want to order the cabbage rolls and definitely the fried oyster mushrooms with the aioli is a favorite. Dessert– we split a That’s That and it’s a vegan version of an It’s It. Why am I even saying vegan version? Of course it’s vegan lol. It was SO good. We wanted to split another but we were so stuffed. Great cocktails and friendly staff too. Awesome experience and look foward to many more!

Interesting dishes, tasty results, huge space and friendly service. The portions are small and the prices are high but it’s a great place to enjoy a fancy vegan meal. I’m very much looking forward to their permanent space, whenever or wherever that may be.

As a meat eater(sorry, vegans/vegetarians/etc. who are reading this), I was pleasantly surprised to be COMPLETELYMINDBLOWN by what an incredible vegan brunch Citizen Fox serves up in their little black nondescript temporary home on Mission Street. I went with three friends, and upon scanning the menu, we decided to share two entrees and two desserts. Original risk takers that we are, we ordered two plates of «chicken» and waffles and two cobblers. It was just the right amount of food, and everything was just AMAZING. The«chicken» was delicious, PERFECTLY seasoned, and fried just right. The outside was perfectly crispy without being greasy, and while it didn’t quite taste like meat, I thought it was really tasty nonetheless, and the texture felt spot on. The waffle was absolutely incredible as well; I find that at many chicken and waffle spots, they don’t put enough care into good waffles, but Citizen Fox knocked it out of the park. For dessert, we shared the quince & apple cobbler with rum raisin ice cream as well as the sugar pie pumpkin cobbler with pumpkin spice ice cream. Both were phenomenal, and I couldn’t believe how creamy and delicious the ice cream was. SUCH A FAN.

Some friends and I(both veg and non) came here for brunch a week ago and it was damn good. We had the Chkn and Waffles(bomb), the Citizen Fox burger, and our friends got the Benedict. Everything was great, but the Chkn and Waffles won, hands down. The beignets were creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside. They were not like other beignets I’ve had(and no, they’re not Brenda’s), but they were really delicious. The space is really cool, too. We were surprised that this is just their temporary space.

Impressive. And this is just the pop up? We had four dishes and the beignets. The chicken and waffles was fantastic. Great food, great service. They need to update their Unilocal page with their pop up location tho and their phone message as I almost walked to 22nd street.

Its temporary space and future and permanent space are minutes walk from Mission Chinese and Gracias Madre, and a whole bunch of other of my favorite bars, restaurants and theatres in the Mission. In another word, familiar territory and it’s easy in and out. Parking was exceptional easy for a Saturday night, we attributed to the burner burn out weekend. R is a vegan, he was not one when we met almost 10 years ago, he was only a vegetarian, but as of late, his veganism has grown, so has his female fan base. Catching up over a prix fixe dinner with jazz playing in the background in a happening, sold-out vegan place seemed appropriate and proven to be entertaining. It’s rare for me to say«I live vicariously through you» to anyone, as it’s mostly often said to me by others, yet that evening was one such occasion. Dinner service was slower than normal due to staff shortage, the manager apologized afterwards. It would have been annoying but we had nothing to do but catching up over dinner so this was no biggie, if anything, it allowed us to order more drinks before hand. Surprisingly delicious meals served in three course style, which is very in like Trestle at $ 35 a head. Amuse bouche was very generous that came with melon soup, pickles and then some. Fig salad and squash blossom and saag paneer aka spinach dig were both fantastic. He showed me photos of his varies women. I examined photos and asked clarifying questions such as «where did you guys meet?» One can easily conclude why he was popular: he’s tall, easy on the eyes, well educated and traveled, got a good job, fit and into triathlons and motorcycling, owns a sweet pad right in the heart of the Mission, and he’s a vegan. But that’s not all, he comes off as humble, gentleman like, and low key. Just the type woman can’t wait to get their hands on. By then the drinks are done so they serve another round. I opted with a hibiscus lemonade which was not sweet at all and lovely indeed for a summer night. Neighbors got a large burger to share. We ordered the same. There was another mash with root veggie dish, mash was better than the vegetarian version, I wish that I knew how to make it. We ate and then more stories were told by him. I laughed and asked questions to make sure I got all the details. Fantastic conversations to go with amazing food. Ice cream sandwich and ice cream with cobbler to conclude a sweet ending. Vegan: I never thought I’d say this but I could become one if eating like this. A lot of my friends are vegans. A lot of them are not. For instance, my very lovely companion with midwestern roots would not be caught dead with a meal like this. But… my lovely companion may not have eaten a vegan meal like this before. And I might have to inform the said companion that people are more attractive in vegan restaurants. That’s just a fact. R picked up the tab. I paid for the drinks. I promised that we’d hit the next hot vegan joint soon, as long as R brings a group of new girls’ photos and even better(dating) stories to entertain me with.

We went to Citizen Fox for brunch on a Sunday. A cool live jazz band was playing. The restaurant is pretty big with nice looking decoration(industrial/wood/art). We were seated at a comfortable booth where we had privacy, which was nice. The appetizers served(1 plate for 2 people) were a cool way to start our meal: pintxos of sag paneer, pickled veggies & more. I had the vegan burger(without the chao cheese or avocado) with salad. It was amazing! Great bun, sauce(thousand islands like) and patty(a bit overcooked but I think that’s how it’s supposed to be). For dessert, I had the Peach Cobbler served hot with Rum Raisin ice-cream. My Goodness, does vegan ice-cream taste good — with a slight coconut-ey taste. I did not taste the Rum which was good since I’m not a fan! It was pretty small: it was great to not feel overly stuffed after this good meal! I can’t wait to come back to try more things and for the permanent location to open next February!
