Damage Control is by turns fierce and lyrical, creating complex narrative spun with sophisticated precision and hot-ass funk all in one smooth gesture. With bold choreography fusing modern dance idioms and forms with classically-inspired structure, and drawn from various cultural backgrounds, Damage Control is a force of nature.

Well, I’m biased, because I’m the director of this company. here’s what our card says: Damage Control Dance Theater, the revolutionary dance fusion company, is destroying the boundaries between fine art, folklore, funk. In their first year, DCDT has performed in venues ranging from the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, to the Oakland Metro. here’s what i say: DCDT is the hardest working group of hot dancers you’ll ever meet. We work hard, train hard, and produce work we’re proud of. We perform at a huge range of events, from the Unilocal holiday party at YBCA(thanks Unilocal!) to club events at Underground SF or the Oakland Metro. We take air shots before every show. Charlotte has hyperflexible shoulders(like, really. it’s scary). Dominique is the energizer bunny — always the person still working when everyone else is taking a break. Kristen is the beastmaster — there’s never been an animal this woman cant have purring in her lap within minutes. I’m honored, proud, and challenged by them every day. And they’re amazing dancers who look frickin’ gorgeous on stage.

I’m biased because I have worked with Cera Byer in the past and will work with her again in the future: but, that aside, I think that Damage Control Dance Theater is one of the most innovative, inspiring up-and-coming dance companies in the Bay Area. The dancers bring a breadth of training and experiance to the stage and use their amazing bodies to create exciting and explosive dance pieces. I’m so proud of these fantastic women — Cera in particular — it is so gratifying to see my friends kicking ass, taking names and living their dreams as artists. Go see DCDT — they kick ass!
