This place has a great location and replaced a very much loved produce market. Prices are higher, for sure, but it has some really great offerings: Romesco(Spanish Red Pepper Dip), ceviche, and queso fresco. It also is a great place to pick up some last minute tostadas or tortillas. Need to head off to a party and bring something? Combine the items I just mentioned and you’re golden. And to agree with the other Unilocalers, yes, the staff is pleasant. But, many of the ingredients that were standard before are gone. The bins in the back that held a variety of chiles, tamarind pods, piloncillo and cinnamon sticks, sit empty. Maybe in the future they will revive them as bulk bins for staples(flour, nuts, beans and the like, I hope). As of right now, they don’t carry piloncillo(aka: Dulce de Panela or Chancaca) or Chocolate Abuelita or Ibarra to make some Mexican hot chocolate! Please bring those back, your clientele, old and new, will surely appreciate these items.

Everything you would or wouldn’t want in the recently gentrified neighboorhood of the Mission District, pricey products and few selection for what is considered a «convenience store.»

Sandwich maker asked me if I wanted ketchup on my chicken sandwich. WTF!!! These folks are in dire need of a consultant. The foundation is there, they just need a clue on how to build upon it from there. Bread was chewy(I was told it was a soft roll; nothing soft about it), lettuce was disgustingly wilted because it was heated at the same time as the rest of the sandwich(had to remove it) and the chicken was overlooked and chewy at the edges. Damn, shoulda put some ketchup on that shit! The coffee is good. My office is right around the corner so it’s perfect for the 2pm pick-me-up. Beats the sludge they’re slinging at Little Spot Café. Really friendly staff. Would love to be able to add stars in the future. They’re trying, but they’ve gotta sort this sandwich shit out.

Pros: 1) Steps from my place, so über convenient 2) Staff is wonderful — incredibly friendly 3) Carry pre-made items, such as guac, pico, and other salsas 4) Prices for produce are reasonable Cons: 1) Prices for non-produce or pre-packaged items are very overpriced 2) Produce is «meh» — can definitely find better elsewhere I agree with other reviews that it feels like this place is trying to market/position them as something they are not. Like they’re trying to be a «hipster» corner store(marketing coffee, renovating their building recently to look a bit more trendy, etc.). However, the audience they are targeting(e.g., those who would rather shop at the Local Mission Market, for example) are not those that will shop here. I think if they could expand upon their selection of produce items and keep up inventory so that items are freshly stocked, they would do themselves a favor. Overall, I will continue to shop here because of it’s convenient location on my block. But opt to shop elsewhere when I have the choice.

If you want a really bad breakfast sandwich that takes close to 20 minutes to make, go here! The woman behind the counter said«Give me 5 minutes!» when I asked her for a breakfast sandwich. Apparently they just have a toaster oven to cook the eggs and stuff. And were out of pastrami. And asked if I wanted lettuce on my breakfast sandwich.(eew). Now late to work after waiting endlessly, I settled down at my desk to taste what I’d hoped would be the BESTSANDWICHEVER. Nope. Kind of awful. Like other folks’ reviews have said, this is a place that seems to be trying to cash in on the hipster-gentrification, but don’t quite know how to do it. I’m sure they’ll still get plenty of business, but if you have a choice, definitely go elsewhere for your breakfasty needs.

Great intersection of bodega price and convenience with a selection for the more Whole Foods-inclined. The best grocery option in this part of the Mission, and lovely staff, to boot.

You got to be kidding me. But not since other Unilocal reviews feel the same. This is a joke. This place used to be «Casa Guadalupe» it still sells the SAMESTUFF but he increased the prices, and threw a bottle of grey paint over the walls, made it less crowded so items look more«artisan-y»(again with the SAME stuff they use to already sell!) An arrogant almost offensive marketing campaign.

This little spot leaves something to be desired. It almost feels like they are trying to be something they aren’t. They recently remodeled to possibly become more hip and add eat in or to go options, but they are so limited and so expensive. I often walk a few doors down to get more quality items. The rices are pretty crazy, even on the simple things like milk and yogurt… Never mind the artisanal items. They also never seem to have what i am looking for. The meat there has not been great either. They have a 10 $ card minimum which is annoying when you just want to grab something, and their ATM has been broken for a while. Their hours are not the best either, they close at eight, i wish it was an hour longer. And they open at 8(although i just stood out side for five min, at 8:07, and the doors were still locked when i left). … Hoe are you going to have a coffee counter inside(with actually some decent coffee) and not be open for morning commuters, seems like they are missing out on some clients. Lastly, i will say the people who work there are all very nice, and always greet you with a smile! Really, they are lovely! I hope this place can pull it together and become more than just convenient… Because right now, 80% of the time im walking to the next block over for better prices or over to 21st and Valencia for my food and to go items!

I would give the market no star if that was an option. I second Krista’s comments and I question Michael C’s comments, since I had the worse customer service experience at that market. I was the only customer in the market and I was ignored by the person working the counter for at least 5 minutes, after which a delivery man offered to tap on her back. Perhaps she has a hearing impediment and could not hear me asking for her attention. Either way I opted to leave the groceries on the counter and walked away. The good news is that there are still grocery stores options near by. Best of luck. Improve your customer service so long time residents will likely continue shopping at this corner market.

Look. This is the closest thing to a grocery store to my house 2 blocks away. But I kick myself for not planning my dinner enough in advance to avoid coming here, every time. Sometime in the last 6 months or so, things changed quite a bit. It seems they remodeled and started aiming to please a… richer? clientele, which has raised the prices(4oz of guacamole for $ 4.99?!), reduced the selection of grocery inventory, and added a pourover coffee station, plants, and artisinal cutting boards. I’m usually the first to roll my eyes at anti-change NIMBY-ers(like I’m sure I sound like now) but I think the experience really was better before the remodel. It feels like a failed gentrification project. The best part about it is they kept the staff. And that’s actually pretty great, but I feel like I’m grasping to stay positive here. The produce was never great(it’s pretty much a small selection of the day-old leftovers from somewhere else) but I didn’t seem to mind when this place wasn’t pretending it had amazing quality stuff. They also added(or made accessible) a side door on 22nd street that leaves the milk bathing in sunlight for hours every morning. At least it’s in a refrigerated case? To top it all off(this was probably the straw that broke the Unilocaler’s back), I know I was grumpy post-commute tonight, but the store started charging a fee to use a credit or debit card, which is legal for credit cards but illegal for debit cards. I mentioned that it was a debit card, and the cashier repeated that it’s a $ 10 minimum for anything other than cash. I tried to point out the difference, but she just wasn’t moved. I know it’s just $.50, but it isn’t legal. I know I’ll probably be back again and again, but I’ll still be kicking myself for it every. Damn. Time. Bring your cash, lower your expectations, and enjoy a conveniently-located market of leftovers and random artisinal goods.

I stopped off on my way home from work, in search of a place to get a healthy lunch on the go. I was glad to find just what I needed in this beautifully upgraded space. I got a delicious turkey sandwich with fresh turkey(not the processed stuff), for the very reasonable price of six dollars. The flowers outside are very inviting and they’ve done a really nice job with the interior too, while keeping Mission traditions alive(tortillas, hot sauce — you can find all of that here too). But what compelled me to write this review was the kindness of the man who made my sandwich: he just showed such a rare concern for my well-being — he just seemed so intent on making sure I liked what I was getting and it really touched me, he was so genuine and kind. I thought to myself, «Wow. THIS is the kind of rare customer service and human grace that you don’t get to see as often as you would like.» I encourage everyone to support such nice people — I hope they succeed.

Support this store! It’s modernized and still has a local corner market vibe. Fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, handmade sandwiches, excellent espresso drinks, flawless service. Some organic produce. All produce high quality, in any case. Whole Foods without the price tag. The young man behind the meat and fish cold case makes his own superb fajita mole sauce which he sells in small quantities. Just ask. Also, a fajita sandwich, is one take-out lunch possibility, with a Mexican chocolate doubleshot mocha in hand. (I made that up, but it sounds doable, if you ask.) I want all of us here in the neighborhood to support this business and help it to thrive. If it prospers, the quality will remain high. A great alternative to liquor store beer and bananas, lotto and Berkeley Farms milk.(BF isn’t so bad, really.) Save money, too. Prices are fair. Discounts before 10AM.

they are across the street from me. i just adore lucretia. ricardo is always helpful. if i had anything negative to say is that they could carry more protein options of a higher caliber, their veggies also need some work. that being said, i will continue to come here again and again.

We love this little store. They have great items and they have really changed things up since buying this from Casa Guadalupe. It’s nice to see the staff and enjoy all of the new offerings in the store. Thank you!
