FACT: «Dirty Water» is the pre-Prohibition term used for whiskey(moonshine to be exact). A restaurant with that name means they are huge on serving all sorts of alcoholic beverages! Although they have 52 different beers and 114 wines on top, I thought I’d try one of their specialty cocktails: 140CHARACTERS — $ 13 Zu Vodka, Anchos Reyes, Lime, Egg Whites. This was a suggestion from our server Annie, after I mentioned that I didn’t want anything too sweet nor too citrusy. Oh and I’m a sucker for anything(food and drink) that has an egg in it! So the consistency of this drink was lovely – a bit thick and fluffy. I really enjoyed this strong and slightly sweet drink! Between my sis, aunt and I, we ate: FRENCHDIP — $ 18 Onion Rings, Au Jus, Creamy Horseradish. BESTFRENCHDIPOFMYLIFE!!! You know I rarely ever order a French dip unless someone races about it or some restaurant is known for it. And so far it’s been just okay for me. My aunt ordered the French dip and I just went with it. I’m so happy she did because it was just out of this world amazing! It’s hard for me to enjoy a French dip because I always find it too bready and dry(even when I dip it in Au jus). But this sandwich had tender meet between this amazing crunchy and soft thing bread that allowed me to taste the tender and juice meat and the creamy horseradish sauce(which was not spicy at all!). The Au Jus was wonderful, and I would dip the onion rings in them too. I loved the onions rings. It reminded me of tempura and is one of the best onion rings I ever had. I believe it came with about 6 of them. This is a dish that can easily feed 2 people – and in this case, 3. GETTHIS! You’ll enjoy it, I promise. DUCKCONFITSALAD — $ 18 Baby Lacinato Salad, Medjool Dates, Creamy Vinaigrette. I’m always so drawn to dishes that say«duck confit» because to me it’s like ordering chicken, but you are guaranteed all the dark meat! This plate of salad came wih a huge scoop of shredded small duck pieces that was quite good. Some may taste«dry» but it’s probably how it was cooked. So you’ll also have a few slightly crunchy pieces. The dates gave it a nice sweetness to everything, which was a nice balance. I really liked that the vinaigrette was creamy because that just made my salad much more rich in taste! Are this may be a salad, but I don’t think it’s really a healthy one. But get this if you want a low-carb salad that actually tastes amazing! MUFFALETTA — $ 17 Mozzarella, Mortadella, Soppressata, Seranno, Sweet Potato Wedges. I have no idea what to expect when we ordered this. I think my aunt only ordered it because she wanted the sweet potatoes. So we had no idea this was a sandwich dish! It’s like everything you can think of on a charcuterie plate – but turned into a sandwich! On pith sides of the thick toasty bread is a thick spread of tapenade. Unfortunately, I am no fan of olives, so I actually deconstructed the sandwiches and started just picking at the many many layers of thinly cut meat. The Soppressata was a lovely simple ham that we can all really just enjoy – it wasn’t too salty and it reminded us of game in a good sandwich. The Seranno, which reminded me a lot of prescuitto(I’m not charcuterie connesuer) was so good. I couldn’t stop picking at it with my fingers to eat them, one super thin slice at a time! The sweet potato wedges were prepared perfectly – it was baked to where it was crispy enough on the outer edges, and soft on the inside. I don’t care for sweet potatoes but I must say, this was fantastic. It really balanced out the savory flavors of the meats and cheeses. So this dessert is why I wanted to come to Dirty Water: BUTTERSCOTCHPOTDECRÈME — $ 14 Foie Gras Ice Cream, Shortbread Cookie, Fluer De Sal. It’s such a cute presentation! It looks like a small black cauldron! There’s actually a lot more pot de crème in there than you think! I love butterscotch this was easily enjoyed. It was quite sweet but the sea salt helped tone it down, but be careful because one bite was actually pretty salty, haha! As for the foie gras(I love foie gras!) ice cream, it tasted like the richest ice cream ever! The taste is subtle and I think it’s wonderful. I’m happy to try this unusual flavor for ice cream. So i suggest looking at the receipt to double check on prices because we were charged $ 15 instead of $ 14 for the dessert. I know it’s weird and we don’t wanna be THAT guy on a date to look so closely at the bill, but I have no shame: P so yeah we brought it to their attention and the fixed it… yay $ 1 :P Annie was a stellar server. She was nice and attentive. We sat at the lounge area because my sis brought her dog, so yay is a dog friendly place! I think Dirty Water is a lovely place, even though I was weirded out at first with the name choice – I can’t stop thinking of Flint! If you come here on a weekday after 1pm, it’s pretty much empty, because that’s when they went. I’d come back for the French dip!

Dirty Water did a fantastic job hosting a larger-than-average company dinner, so know they are well staffed and equipped to host large groups. For starters, order the Charred Shishito & Pardon Peppers(with grits!) and the Dirty Greens Salad. Those two were possibly the highlights of my dinner — other than my dining companions. Again, it was a company dinner, so the restaurant was able to offer our group a pre-fixed menu, mainly consisting of their brunch items. I know, brunch for dinner — ahem, ‘brinner.’ Fun concept for a fun group. We noshed on a trio platter of The Dirty Croque, Fennel Pork Sausage(their version of a McMuffin) and French toast. The French toast is another must if you’re brunching there. Service was fantastic, wine was flowing and our group was well taken care of. I’d totes go back for happy hour or a nightcap at the bar. Also, this resto is located inside the twitter building, so their street sign isn’t too visible.

Came here with a large work group, intrigued by the prospect of «breakfast for dinner.» While the various breakfast elements were hit and miss, I do love this restaurant for so many other reasons and could easily recommend it or make a return trip on a future adventure in the city. The environment and décor are amazing. It’s a big open place tucked back inside a big office building that still manages to feel comforting, warm and homey. The meal itself was an interesting concept. Some courses I loved(the gooey-delicious french toast) and one in particular I couldn’t eat(the fennel sausage sandwich. I think my disappointment in the latter was due to the overpowering taste of fennel, which is surprising because usually I can look past anything as long as there is pork involved. Despite that one misstep, the rest of the meal and the company made for a wonderful night. As the old song goes, «I love that Dirty Water…»

We visited Dirty Water and enjoyed their tasting menu for Restaurant Week. We were quite pleased with the food selection and the quantity, especially with the charcuterie. I do recommend ordering that, because in comparison to many other restaurants, you get not just quality but quantity. Their tasting menu was a good introduction to their menu, which as others have said is minimal and more meat based, but good. We had gone in deciding that we would not go with a bottle of wine, but would try their cocktails, which we’ve heard good things about. I went with one of their speciality cocktails while my boyfriend stayed with the classic Manhattan. The cocktails were good — mine was creative, simple and flavorful at the same time, with not one flavor overwhelming the others. They also do have a substantial wine and beer list and I could tell that their lounge/bar scene is where it is happening. The front of the restaurant is the lounge/bar and it takes up more space(at least it seems) than the entire dining area in the back. Down side — most likely because of it’s location– it seems to draw big groups. Big groups combined with high ceilings and no real separation between the bar area and the dining area(and no sound buffers) means it was loud. Not like«eh, it’s loud» but«shout across the table to be heard» loud. Even when the bar area cleared out, the restaurant area remained«eh it’s loud» level. I noticed a large number of groups and very few couples sitting around, so I can see it is geared towards that. The service was okay, but not consistent for the level of restaurant it was. We had food put down in front of us and not explained, which especially with the charcuterie plate, was a bit disheartening. Perhaps I’m picky, but(with the exception of bread), I like people to say something(Bön Appetit, This is the Deer Tartare etc.) when they serve the food. Just placing it in front of me and walking away without a smile does turn me off. Our regular server was great — friendly, knowledgeable and considerate. But as she was busy(understandable), others jumped in to help her and they seemed more focused on keeping the momentum going. So final say — I might come back, but just to the lounge area with a group of friends for drinks and maybe small bites. I just prefer quieter, more personable places for dinner. Btw.. no Ipad for us! I’m a bit disappointed!!! Maybe they phased the out or they are only up front

I had a great time here with the team after work. It was a very festive atmosphere inside. I did not know there was an alley with bars and restaurants behind Twitter. I ordered the porkchops which were OK. I still haven’t found a place that does better pork chops can NOPA — which is what I still consider the golden standard.

New amazing spot in San Francisco. The location exactly in Twitter building. Fancy place to hang out, brunch, happy hour and Dinner and the selection of beer is crazy. I love their variation of cocktails too, I love gin n tonic and they made one for me with pink peppercorn so beautiful and of course worth to drink. For the food I ordered the hangar steak(very yummy) and Guinea hen sounds strange but is chicken and very delicious, over all everything here good and def will comeback.

Yum. Believe the hype on the axis venison tartare! It’s especially rich and tasty. Their food menu isn’t long, but it’s really solid. We also enjoyed the duck confit salad, the steak, and a rather perfect looking chicken pot pie. And a few Manhattans — all well made. Fellow industrial glam /rustic chic folks will love this place. Concrete walls and columns, high ceilings, classic tufted velvet or leather cushions on everything, and vintage bulbs — which are LED powered if you look very carefully and have a contractor’s eye. Packed in front at happy hour, but plenty of tables and quick service for dinner in back.

My favorite thing about Dirty Water is the wine list. Varied, interesting and full of delicious things. It’s also quite beautiful, if you like stylish, dimly-lit spaces with nooks and crannies galore. In a nutshell, what I am saying is Dirty Water is the perfect spot for a glass of wine with a group of friends. I happened to come here with quite a large group of friends, and seeing as that we were such a large group, a set menu was decided upon prior to our gathering. While breakfast for dinner sounds un and quirky, it was just not my thing… like, at all. Had it been delicious then maybe I would have been a changed woman, but my sausage was undercooked, my runny egg was something akin to gelatinous and I was just not feeling the super sweet French toast dish with the other two. However, the peppers and grits and super fresh salad they served to start were both excellent and by far my favorite eats of the night. Service was spotty and I actually had a plate dropped on me, but I’ll cut ‘em some slack sine we were, as I have mentioned, such a large group. Did I mention the beautiful ambience and great wine?

False advertisers! I looked everywhere and all the H20 was as clean as what quenches the Kardashian’s. The bomb ass breakfast for dinner menu they put together for us though? Now that was dirty. And when I say dirty, I mean Allen-Iverson-crossover-when-it-goes-down-everyone-stands-up-and-goes-«ooooooooooohhhhhh”-dirty. The fennel pork sausage sandwich and the dirty croque were out of this world. Even the French toast which I’m normally not a fan of was lick my plate clean tasty. They have a great cocktail menu and it’s priced at what you think the people who work in this building could afford on the regular. Since it is in the Twitter building I’ll give my overall analysis in under 140 charaters. #Idigit

I came here for a private holiday party. Since it’s free, I may be biased. I would give it a close to 4 stars. It was super fun. For dinner we had the — shishito pepper with grits. Grits were very well done — dirty water salad. Was good but looking at the price on the regular menu. $ 14 is a bit steep — roasted chicken with potato which isn’t on their regular menu was surprisingly delicious, tender, and humongous. See photo. I didn’t actually order it but my neighbor did. It was so big she shared it with everyone. I rarely order chicken but I think I would at this restaurant. Unfortunately they told me it’s not currently offered in the regular menu — I ordered the hanger steak. It was just okay. Surprised that it was a bit chewy. — for dessert I got the floating island. Wow, delicious and light. Almost guilt free. I also give it 4 stars because of the attentive service and 140 character vodka drink. I am now curious to try it for a regular dinner. Will update then.

Dirty Water is located on the first floor of the Twitter building. That’s a [140 character] novel piece for me, an out-of-town person-type. Attended a large group dinner in which«breakfast for dinner» was the name of the game. Delicious + adorable, no? This spot is a dark, chic respite inside the bright, open and airy building. Full of SF tech-y/fashionable types, Dirty Water was warm and inviting on the ambiance tip. Servers were thoughtful and attentive, though there did seem to be a bit in the way of confusion regarding our large party and the offerings. No harm no foul, though! Super nice folks. Dinner-breakfast was delightful and rich and wicked carb-laden. The wine was good. The company was the best. A few things of note: Restrooms = outside the restaurant, you’ll need the code for entry Wine list = lovely, comprehensive, slightly pricey AOK, Dirty Water! AO-freaking-K.

Fun spot for a work dinner although the name ‘Dirty Water’ makes you wonder… We came here with a large group of about fifty of us and I thought the servers did a great job. The moment I sat down I was offered water and a glass of wine. It gets pretty loud in the restaurant but you didn’t have to scream at one another to be heard which has been my experience during large group dinners at other places. The food was not as good as the service and certainly had its ups and downs. I loved the grits they served as a starter and could have eaten a giant bowl of that with some salad and left a happy camper. Our main course was three brunch items, all of which I found to be much too heavy. I prefer healthy food and normally eat fairly clean, so having the heavy breakfast selection was a bit much for me. They brought out giant platters with a variety of petit fours for dessert and I found the jelly candy triangles to be my favorite.

We came here for a giant company dinner and they did… OK. So it was a little bit of chaos. We were about four long tables and they didn’t really know what to do with us. They had one server trying to work a few tables and there was a lot of frantic running around, putting down plates, picking up plates, and trying to figure out which drinks were and were not being served. Eh. However, the food here was quality. We did a mix of things including a damn tasty salad with candied nuts and peppers with grits to starts(yum), a plate of breakfast foods for mains(quality, even if I wasn’t quite feeling breakfast for dinner) and then some little sampling desserts at the end. And it is a beautiful space, very open, with lots of room, even for a giant group like ours. I’ll have to come back and try it again on a normal day but overall, not bad.

Been here a couple of times now — First time for dinner, second time for drinks only. The was a bit rich. It would have been good to have some lighter things on the menu. The service was a bit choppy… when they should have already worked through the opening kinks. I love the bar… great spacious couches perfect for lounging and have a few drinks. Glad this place is in the neighborhood!

Talk dirty to me! …While drinking dirty water! I love the name and that’s what I was thinking when I heard about this place to attend an event! It’s superbly hidden in the skyscraper building! Inside the building, I was surprised to see a blooming semi-market with grass substitute outside and a modern gym right across! While walking into the building and strolling through, dirty water there is. It’s secluded and a great spot for drinks, lounge and grab dibs. Their wings were a bit a too dry and sausage meatball tasted a bit off. Nonetheless, a tucked away, charming spot to whine down to.

Made our way over here after the Vintners Market event at the Metreon since we got done a little early. Besides parking being confusing AF and a pain(where is it not in SF though), this venue had a modern and fun vibe to it. A whole bunch of people were mingling and socializing on the left side which seemed to be a lounge. I saw a few late diners in the restaurant portion, but other than that, the place seemed very lively. I loved the ambiance and the large plush couches! Great spot for a date night! As much as I wanted to sit on one of those couches, we found a spot at the bar. I ordered a Moscow Mule, and omg, probably one of the best tasting Moscow Mules ever! These bartenders definitely know their stuff! After looking at the menu for awhile, we also decided to might as well try the food. My boyfriend got the Venison Tartare and I went with the Steamed Mussels. Holy Moly were those mussels GOOOOOOD! Apparently the Venison Tartare was just as good too even though I didn’t try it(I’m allergic to egg and you spill an egg all over it before mixing it up). Now I know why this place was voted as one of the 8 hottest bars in SF!

The Twitter building is a flutter. Not one, but 2 brand new restaurants on the main floor. First, the return of the legendary Cadillac Bar. Then, 5 weeks ago, Dirty Water came onto the scene. My man surprised me w tickets to Phantom of the Opera last Saturday. I had about 6 hours notice. «Where are we having dinner?» I asked. «I’m leaving that up to you,» he answered. Choosing a dining destination is something I always relish, but it was Saturday. I have to find a restaurant that’s actually not fully booked, preferably near the Orpheum Theater, & be in & out in time to make the 8:00 show. A bit of a challenge. But the Twitter building is only a block away from the theater. So the Twitter building it was. We could have easily eaten at Cadillac, but I wanted something a bit more apropos for our pre theater dinner. Dirty Water was perfect. While having a quick drink at Cadillac, I booked a reservation at Dirty Water through Open Table. 6:30. That gave us an hour &15 minutes for dinner. Then we high tail it over to the Orpheum. Never a dull moment. Dirty Water is the kind of space you want to lounge & linger in. I regretted that we were in a race to make curtain at Phantom. When you enter, you have to walk through the lounge to the dining room. The lounge here is the ultimate lounge. Unbelievably spacious, perfectly dimly lit, w plush seating & a luxurious aesthetic, you could easily forget any mundane obligations here. The whole space has a steakhouse feel. A swanky steakhouse. The dining room… Those chairs. Look at the chairs. They’re striking. Like a vanity chair Scarlett O’Hara would feel right at home in. The wall sconces are also striking. Between the great lighting fixtures in the lounge & the dining room touches, let’s just say that the décor here is outstanding. I heard the utensils were custom made just for them. Exactly. There’s an iPad on every table w their extensive wine list. And almost every wine they carry is available by the glass. Eureka! We had just enough time for one main dish & glass of wine each. I did the duck confit salad. It was huge. Delicious, w the duck being so tender & flavorful. The only negative was that it was a bit too salty. The greens were perfectly dressed. Tweak the salt issue, & it’s a perfect dish altogether. My man ordered the mushroom risotto. It was stellar. Perfectly creamy, w the flavor notes hitting all the right levels. It’s not easy to achieve the ideal consistency w risotto. They nailed it. The hosts were awesome. Welcoming & accommodating when I requested a booth 2 top instead of the initial middle table we were guided to. Our server was a rockstar. We gave her the heads up about my surprise Phantom tickets, & she took care of us, along w getting slammed before we left, completely unruffled. Props. All the way around, Dirty Water was fabulous. We’ll be back for a proper, leisurely lunch or dinner for sure. 4& ½ stars.

BESTBRUNCHINSF!!! Seriously don’t know how this place isn’t more crowded for brunch. I’m sure they will start being totally packed every weekend within the next few weeks. Ambience is so modern and rustic at the same time, with a beautiful open kitchen. All tables are long slabs of wood and the cups and plates are so beautiful. I had the BESTEGGSBENEDICT of my entire life here. The hollandaise is anything but traditional, with a tangy and savory twist to a classic brunch entrée. The ham is so delicious and the eggs were poached to perfection. The potatoes were so good, even the ketchup was better than usual. Mimosa is made with the proper ration of mostly champs with a splash of fresh squeezed oj. The green bloody mary is definitely unique and I think it would be even better with tequila, maybe try that out! Shoutout to our server Phillip for being awesome, he definitely added to the experience!

What a disappointment. Thank God we had good company, at least. We started by having drinks at the bar. Nice atmosphere. Pretty pricey wines, but like anywhere else that is trendy, in the city. Large choice of drinks. After we got to our table, in the industrial-looking back of the restaurant, we ordered trout, duck salads and steak. We must have waited for our dishes to be served almost 30 minutes. It took for-ever! When the food was finally here, my husband’s steak arrived ice-cold. Not cool, after all this wait! He sent it back. My trout was served as a whole. I was not expecting that. It was difficult to eat(skin super sticky to edible parts), the flesh was white(I was expecting a pink one) and there wasn’t too much to eat. On the side, there was an onions purée which was(too) creamy and green beans. Our friends’ duck salads were very tiny and too salty. When my husband’s steak finally arrived, he enjoyed it very much. The only positive point! But again, it was an extremely tiny portion for 26 or 27 $. It was served with a good carrot purée but there was hardly any. It was more like decoration on the plate. Of course, we had to order dessert after these small dishes. There were only 4 choices. Nothing was too inspiring. Our friends ordered the floating island. We decided to split the pound cake: WORSTDESSERT I HAVEEVEREATENINMYWHOLELIFE. I am shocked a dessert could taste this bad. I love sweets but after two bites I had to put the fork down — and that’s not my style! The cake AND the fruits were smoked. But like hardcore. They straight up tasted like CHARCOAL! I’ve never experienced this taste ever, anywhere. Ugh, what a way to end a meal: with a long lasting DIRTY flavor in mouth. Lastly, the fact that the restaurant is inside a building makes it weird that there aren’t any windows where you can see the outside, in the main room. The staff was pretty friendly. But that’s not the reason why we go to restaurants. I live in the neighborhood but I will never come back to this place! I was excited to try this new modern restaurant but I would have skipped it and saved the money if I had known! Next!!!
