For so long in San Diego, I went to Chamber events in hopes of networking and meeting like minding individuals who wanted to work together and have fun while doing it. What I found instead was a business card passing contest as to who can pass the most cards around in a 2 hour span. «Oh you do mortgages, I know someone that does that.» Next. Seriously, why would you refer me business or network with me if you have no idea about my character and what I can do for you? How about we slow down and get acquainted first before you shut the door? And then I discovered the Downtown Women’s Club. Started in Boston by Diane Danielson, this is guilt free networking. You go to events in your city, you show up when you want to, you don’t have to exchange leads or pass tips. There are no requirements other than showing up and having a good time. You pay for your own food and drink consumption at happy hours, lunches are either sponsored or have a set price pre-disclosed and all other events are pay for your self. There is a sight with a calendar you can reference or if you are on the mailing list you’ll get email updates of things going on. You don’t have to work with the Realtor in the group because you are the lender. And nor does the painter have to work with the contractor in the group. It is on you to go to event and build your own relationships. Wow, what a concept. So when I moved here, I was dismayed to find there is no chapter in SF. So I started one with the support of my San Diego chapter friends and the CEO of the group in Boston, the original one. The SD one led to alot of great work and personal relationships and I hope the SF one can do the same. But in order to do that we need the support of our community and that includes you guys our fellow Unilocalers! And yes some of the events are co-ed, in fact for now since it’s just starting, they all area! Check out the site! It’s free to join the local club, if you want to network online there is an online membership you can join and pay for and post information about yourself on…
