I just changed to Kaiser, after hopping around trying out all kinds of health insurance. I wasn’t sure what I was going to get with Dr. Shao, because Kaiser has sort of a bad reputation among most people I talk to. Apparently some of that reputation is unfounded. Don’t get me wrong, their pharmacy still makes you wait ages before you get your prescription. And each building seems to have a different way of making you check in and register. But I’m willing to go through all of that if it means I get to deal with Dr. Shao on a regular basis. She has very good bedside manner, and is very friendly and welcoming. She talked me through a few things, and never once tried to rush me or make me feel unwelcome or uncomfortable. She was very thorough, but the best part was that by the time I was finished, I looked at my watch and realized that my whole appointment had only taken 25 minutes. This is not the dreaded Kaiser that everyone complains about, where you wait for ages to get seen, and then you get into the exam room and have to wait even longer. I was in, out, and got everything I needed in a reasonable matter of time. I’m almost dreading the inevitable changing of jobs in a few years, because it means my years at this Kaiser with Dr. Shao are numbered. Guess I’ll just have to make the most of it!
