Rolled my old bike in with the handlebars so loose they were nearly falling off — they tightened them up immediately, checked the tires and gave me hand cleaner to get the gunk off(I never know where it comes from) all with a big smile. Oh, and their bikes looked cool too :-)

John who comes across as a nice guy — I totally had issues with concerning his being detailed and thorough. We purchased a used bike for Burning Man and picked it up ten days after the purchase to give him time to do what he needed to in refurbishing it. He recommend a lock which we purchased also. The bike got stolen off the back of the RV the night we got back into SF. My problem is that John sold us a bike for $ 1700.00 and FORGOT to record the Registration Number. Leaving me now with a bigger issue, as I need that number. He cannot locate it anywhere. Then when I went in to the shop to speak to him again about it, he started with the«spin control» which pissed me off. Own up to your mess up and why not try to make it right somehow? Instead of a dead end. Like an employee who comes to you with just problems and no idea’s on solutions. Poor business in my book. There are plenty of people who have bike shops who need the business.

I looked for a long time trying to find the right bike for me and ebikelane was where I found the perfect one, my Van Moof S3. They have a unusually diverse selection of bikes and ebikes you won’t find at other shops. John & Co bent over backward to set up my bike and keep it tuned. My particular bike had some manf issues not related to them, which they helped deal with quickly and at no charge. In particular several times I couldn’t pick up or drop off my bike util after normal shop hours, but they stayed late to make sure I got my bike. Since it’s my main transportation that is something huge I haven’t experienced at any other bike shop. Highly recommend checking out their bike selection and getting your repairs through them!

I am late posting this(thought I already had) but — a couple of months ago I helped someone with some pretty challenging mental health issues navigate getting a bike repaired here. Turns out, he had been dropping by and checking in with the owner on a regular basis. Both the manager and the younger guy working there when we went that day were incredibly kind and patient without being condescending(which can be tough). And they encouraged my guy to come back if he had any other bike problems(the manager made sure we both had his business card). I shudder to think how he might have been treated elsewhere. And 20 minutes and a few bucks later, he left with a working bike! Thanks guys!

JT& Company– Thanks for the quick repair and maintenance of our Kuo A2B. The speedometer now reads correctly, the gears shift smoothly, and the new break pads stop on a dime. All that didn’t cost an extra dime – you honored the warranty with absolutely no quibbling!(Kuo is an amazing 20″ folding e-bike, BTW.) A big shout out to the techie who did all the repairs! Well worth our drive from the East Bay to keep this bike in tip-top shape!

I bought my vanmoof from here around thanksgiving and I have loved it. I always have awesome customer service experiences here as well. Not a bad thing I can think to say about their product or customer service. I would/will totally recommend this place to anyone interested in getting a bike.

I’m happy to report that they have changed their tune. I went back into the store and this time had a very good experience, glad to know the owner is very invested in making his shop as good as it could be.

Was walking by the shop when I saw a Dahon bike converted to electric. The price was very reasonable. But when I went inside I fell in love with a silver A2BKUO. Seriously considered buying it; to the point where John sent me an invoice. All I had to do was pay for it and pick it up. Price was already incredible and John was going to add a rack. After trying it out I decided it was a GREAT bike, but too fast for me. I already have an e-bike and like it except it’s heavy. Slow and heavy! The KUO was much lighter, had 7 gears and pedal assist which is perfect for San Francisco. Long story; short. I decided that at my age, I didn’t need the speed. Even though I backed out of the sale after he had installed the rack; John was a kind and true gentleman about it. If I decide to buy a different e-bike, I’ll be going back. He works hard to deserve your business.

This is the PRIMO shop in the entire bay area to hook up w/a new, rockin’ head turnin’ cool ass e-bike without doubt! John rocks — listen to this story… I saw a demo A2B Shima w 200-ish miles on it from Motostrano on craigslist for $ 2’gs — went to the shop knowing it was a $ 3,799.00 bike. Took it for a spin, the bike climbed Clay St. in SF like it was a local on crack. UNREAL. I fell in love. Headed back to the shop and told John I was down for the price — he wrote a receipt for $ 2,700 and I was like. «Woah dude, the tax ain’t that damn much.» John said the bike was $ 2,500 and w tax added up to around $ 2,700 — I was again like«woah dude, tax on $ 2k ain’t that much… wuz sup?» He said the bike was $ 2.5k — I was all flippin out cuz it was on Craigslist for 2k — he looked it up and then got all pale… ha ha — someone had made a mistake posting the add for way under price — but with all the honor and integrity one man could have, in this messed up world, he hooked me up with the A2B with a 2 year warranty and 2 tuneups for the $ 2k it was advertized for, saving me $ 700. I got huge respect for this dude, for real. Now I am considering getting another bike from him for my partner and grandson to share — Me & John became buddies and are gonna go out and knock down a few brews together. If you are looking for honesty and loyalty this is the place to hit up b4 you go get ripped off somewhere else. Straight up my A2b is better than any drug you could find in that neighborhood. Go to this shop b4 you go anywhere else — it is awesome. Peace from total e-bike happiness. H

I was contacted by Joe after my initial post. We listened to my side of the story, apologized for my experience, and offered to solve the problem. Since my bike was already being worked on by my mechanic, he agreed to cover the cost of the cable rerouting/repair. I sincerely appreciate Joe’s willingness to correct the issue and his professionalism in dealing with my complaint.

After having a disappointing experience with another neighborhood bike shop, I stopped by Motostrano on Bush Street. I met with John Tai, who I found extremely friendly and professional, but what really impressed me was his candor and honesty about not knowing how to fit me properly, and his follow-up both e-mail and phone calls. I really appreciated all the follow-up as I’m a busy person. Also, instead of trying to sale me something on the spot, he recommended that I come back and talk to the bike tech who would be more knowledgeable. He showed me a few options that might work within my budget of $ 3,000, and I made an appointment to follow-up. I came back the following week and met with Terrance. I was planning on spending up to $ 3,000 plus, but both John and Terrance help decode all the techy bike jargon and I settled on a high end cyclocross bike for half the price I was expecting to spend. I’ve already taken my cyclocross Focus bike on a 40 mile bike ride and I’m EXTREMELY happy. Thanks guys!

A year ago, I bought my Currie Technology Izip electric cruiser from Motostrano(EBIKELANE). The bike is so fun to ride and I’m very grateful that Joe and his crew took the time to help me find the right EBIKE. I saw the cruiser in their San Francisco shop but I wanted to test drive other makes and models before purchasing. Since I’d never been on an electric bike before and I felt uncomfortable getting on and riding on Polk and Bush, Joe took the bike I was interested in to their Redwood City shop so I could test ride it and three other bikes he thought I might enjoy. Perfect. On a quiet street I test rode four bikes and picked my wonderful cruiser. And I must say the other ebikes were also very good! Now that’s great customer service. The reason I’m writing this review now is because I recently called John to schedule my free tuneup. John asked how the bike was performing and when I told him it was performing very well he said then not to worry about anything just bring the bike in when I need it. WOW ! And at the same time I asked John for a favor, my friend needed a bike box and he said he’d have one for me to pick up. You can’t beat their customer service!

I went in to get some air in my tires. I got inside an John started helping me out, they had this complicated but awsome bike pump and we got talk about bikes, the city and then he noticed my back tire was out of wack. He reached over grabbed his tools and help me fix it up. Super nice! I left and my only charge was to write a Unilocal review. The customer service here is super friendly and the next time I need a tune up I know where I am taking my bike!

Just purchased a BH Easy Motion Neo Carbon from John Tai. It had been listed on Craigslist, but when I got around to calling to ask about it, the listing had expired. Since I live in Fremont, I wanted to check the details, and their inventory system said it was a large, but then John called me back after getting in to the store and confirming by sight it was in fact a medium. After that he stayed in touch to answer more questions, by text and phone; that was pretty convenient. After I made the decision to buy it, he had it ready and charged by the time I got up there by BART(called him as I left the house). Showed me how to use the bike, gave me helpful tips on using an e-bike in general, reminded me that the first tune-up is free(!), and to contact him with any questions. Bonus points for staying way after closing time. I don’t think I’ll be buying another bike this expensive for a while, a) so I’m glad I bought a high quality one from a store with friendly knowledgeable staff like John and his crew, b) but I’d probably buy from these guys again.

I popped into the shop to inquire about getting a tune-up for my road bike– John did a few quick adjustments and told me to save my money for a real tune-up after riding it around for a while. Super nice guy, I’ll definitely be back when my bike needs a real tune-up!

Very friendly and attentive staff. I showed up with a minor bicycle problem that happened on my commute to work and prevented me from getting home. John Tai took time to look at the issue and resolve it quickly. Though I did not go in with the intent to buy a bike and didn’t leave with a new bike, this place would definitely be on the top of my list should I be in the market for an electric bike. I noticed that they had a good selection of non-electric bikes as well. Great customer service and just being a nice person overall earns huge points in my book. Thanks again John!

I just want to say thanks to John Tai for showing me some of the very cool bikes at Motostrano. John was very kind and patient and answered all of my questions. I am sure I will be returning to Motostrano soon to buy a bike. Thanks again John!
