I was resigned to my fate of dry eyes, to allergy season, wind! All things I couldnt control. Contact wearers know. dr chan actually assessed what I needed, offered me a ‘weird’ solution of monovision, a new brand of contacts for me, and I have never been more impressed. There are no frills and no small talk, just an eye doctor that wants to doctor your eyes.

The grief that I put the ladies in this office through is significant. I waited until now to get contacts for a very good reason. If a drop of eye solution gets within 2 inches of my eyes, they have a system overload, proceed to perceive the drop as some kind of eye-destroying fire poison, and refuse to stay open. When it comes to putting a solid eye-cap on my peepers, all hell breaks loose. After Dr. Chan updated my prescription, it was up to(Cara? Carrie?), to administer contact training. After 45 minutes of intensive wrestling with my face, I finally completed the training, and Cara was with me the whole way. She sat through my pathetic attempts to accomplish some people do without blinking an eye,(:D) and gave me helpful coaching tips along the way. It takes a true wizard to help me touch my eyeballs, and she was an excellent sorceress. Dr. Chan herself is fantastic. She has a quick yet adept and personable method. I love the feeling of her small office. It’s located in a seemingly historic building, telling by how the mail chutes are still in use(I jumped when I heard envelopes shooting down the tube in the elevator lobby), and the elevators have this Art Deco motif about them, and open so slowly it’s almost like its 1932. In no way does it have the typical cold and stuffy feeling of a doctor’s office, and as a patient, you receive excellent attention. I’m very happy with my experience here, and I couldn’t have found them without the Unilocal.Put your peepers in good hands.

Dr. Eileen Chan is the best optometrist I’ve ever seen. She’s very thorough with her work and tests and I never once felt as though she was rushing through any of the exams or check-ups. She also informed me that I have Exotropia– which is something no optometrist has ever been able to point out to me in the past. She gave me a prescription for frames and I’m going back next week to pick up some contact samples she ordered for me. Remember that prescriptions for frames last 2 years and contacts for 1. She is very easy to talk to and overall an enjoyable person to be around. I definitely recommend her to anyone looking for an optometrist. Plus, her office takes VSP vision insurance.

I’m pretty punishing with my glasses, it seems. I got a new frame thanks to Dr Chan in September 2009. Couple of months later, my girlfriend(the charming Angeline P., who also left a 5 star review) steps on the glasses getting out of bed, since we didn’t have a nightstand at the time. Brought it back in, and it was still under warranty, so the frame company, Altair, mailed them a new frame, and they swapped the lenses. Great! Fast forward to this month and I’ve once again ruined the frame by dropping it off the sink onto the floor.(Yeah. these frames are kind of weaksauce.) Turns out the frame company is pretty flexible and excused the fact that they were a couple months out of warranty, and performed a replacement /again/. And since that first time, I haven’t had to pay anything extra to get the lenses constantly fitted into the replacement frames. Dr. Chan and the people in her office are super helpful and I’m glad I do business with them. I recommend her, or Dr. Slamovich, for your glasses needs wholeheartedly! The icing on top of the cake is that with your newly found vision, you can hike up Kearny to go get Muracci’s curry afterwards! :D

I love Dr. Chan. She fitted me for glasses and everything went very smoothly. I’m used to going to Minor Hall at Berkeley for all my optical needs, and while I’ve never had issues there, they sure do take a hell of a long time. My appointment lasted for about 45 minutes here, and we had good conversation about my eyes and Berkeley as an optometry school. The selection of glasses here is also pretty great; I was able to find five frames that I was happy with and had to ask Dr. Chan to help me narrow it down to 1. She gave good criticism for each pair and was able to help me pick out the pair I’m wearing now, which I haven’t had issues with since getting them. Turnaround between ordering glasses and getting glasses was less than a week. I got my pupils dilated when I came back to get my glasses, and it was the most painless dilation I’ve ever experienced. The effects of the dilator lasted an hour, and I wasn’t hurting without sunglasses. I am used to being unable to function properly for several hours after a dilation. I was able to go to the bank and withdraw money immediately after. I am so glad I took my boyfriend’s advice and stopped going to Minor Hall for eye appointments. I’ve found Dr. Chan, and I’m incredibly satisfied.

Dr. Chan provides superior diagnostics, quick and painless exams and is such a wonderful conversationalist — she remembered that I am getting married when I went in to see her again. Seriously, I chose her because my insurance is accepted by this office(her officemate is Rochelle Slamovich, also highly rated on Unilocal) and because she’s close to work/home. The fact that I was given some really great service means that if I move or change job locations, I will still go to Dr. Chan. She’s totally kind, human and good at what she does. I can see!!!
