Elite Hour @ The Bar at The Box Launch Party

Thanks Abby for putting together another great Unilocal Elite event.
This was the launch party for the The Box, an Asian restaurant in the cellar of Macy’s. I thought there were only quick-​service places downstairs, so it was a nice surprise to find out about The Box. The party was for Unilocal Elite and personal friends and invited guests of The Box (plus some freeloaders I saw that snuck in).
I brought my mom along with me which was pretty fun because she has heard me discuss Unilocal and Unilocal Elite events for so long. This was a great event to bring her to as there was ample seating, and a very relaxed, quiet setting. It was a great event for mingling as well.
There was complimentary wine and beer at the bar; the red wine kept my mom happy. The staff at The Box did a great job of keeping the passed appetizers flowing. Surely, no one left hungry! We got to sample chicken skewers, spring rolls, chicken wings, beef jerky, and some spicy nuts.
Unilocal also gave us goodie bags including a Unilocal towel! Also, The Box surprised us with goodie bags as well! I’m really loving my Asian Street Dust seasoning. It’s really tasty and is also a great reminder anytime I use it to head back to The Box. That’s clever marketing on their part!
Overall, this was a super fun bash and it was great to mix and mingle with fellow Unilocal Elite. Thanks Abby! Thanks Unilocal!Thanks The Box!

MY FIRST Unilocal ELITE EVENT EVER!!!
First off — thanks to everyone at Unilocal for the nomination and the party pass for the event!
Moving on to the review, The Box is definitely a big time sleeper of a place, it is a spot with a really nice space that is just a bit tucked away at the bottom of Macy’s in Union Square. Luckily we had no trouble finding the restaurant, as I’m someone who’s had his fair share of adventures at Macy’s as a child. As I made my way to the check-​in desk, I could hardly contain my excitement, especially as I was greeted with a gift bag containing some dope Unilocal gear — note to Unilocal HQ: the sunglasses are fresh, and have already been rocked a few times.
Despite some check-​in issues (Remember that whole «More Bars in More Places» AT&T campaign? Yeah that doesn’t apply here…) me and my +1 were eventually able to settled into a booth in the back and start doing some recon on the food situation.
It’s unfortunate that I work in the Embarcadero, otherwise I could definitely see myself coming here after work. The chicken wings were the highlight — juicy, saucy, and the chicken had great flavor as well. Just watch out for the «hot» wings, I was on the wrong end of a mixup between the «spicy» and «regular» wings, and it didn’t exactly end well for me.
Another thing I loved was the fact that they brought in someone from Anchor Brewing to pour glasses of Anchor Summer Ale, which has recently become one of my favorite pours. The hard cider on tap was just okay, but it was at least refreshing and was a great choice to mix with the spicy appetizers that were being served.
The crowd wasn’t the most social group I’ve ever been around, but in the middle of a work week, it’s probably unrealistic to expect a raging bunch anyway. But everyone was generally friendly and definitely seemed to be having a good time.

Wonderful! I haven’t attended a Unilocal Elite event in a loooong time.
We weren’t able to check-​in due to no wifi or signal down in the basement.
Everything was delish! Spring rolls, tofu rice, beef and chicken skewers and of course, CHICKEN WINGS!!!

My first Unilocal Elite event!
I’ve been to Asian box before and have enjoyed their food. Excited for their new bar concept! The chicken wings are great bar bites. A little messy but good chicken wings are meant to be messy right? The bar space is spacious and I like how some of the seating is communal. The beers and cider selections were so amazing. The Anchor steam lager is light and refreshing. The Local cider was sooooo gooood! I think it was red branch? I’d definitely come back here for a happy hour or to unwind after a shopping spree at macys!

I’ve been slacking and this was my first Elite event of the year. Eek! But where there’s Asian food, you can guarantee I’ll be there. I never think to venture down to the ground floor at Macy’s and loved the sprawl of cool eateries that have taken up shop. Asian Box was no exception.
From check-​in to cheers, the event was a blast. The owner himself poured red and white wines and cold crisp ciders which were accompanied by platters and bites of addictive 5-​alarm chicken wings, tender jerky, mixed nuts and a tangy rice slaw. Everyone was super friendly and the space allows for both intimate two-​person tables to a large communal bench for all your food sharing needs. Loved the gift bag swag too (keychain, towel, sunglasses, headphones and my favorite favorite chapstick).

My first Unilocal elite event! I had a great time and was happy that there were +1’s so I could bring one of my friends along. We enjoyed all the food, the chicken wings and chicken and beef skewers being our favorites! The spring rolls and coconut rice were also really good. The service was great; the waitress that accommodated us was really nice about frequently bringing our table samples of food, even though we were kind of hidden in the corner; and the bartenders were sociable and super friendly as well. Along with our Unilocal gift bag with a bunch of goodies, we also got an asian box gift bag as well, which included «asian street dust» which i’m extremely excited to try at home! Overall a great first experience as a Unilocal elite. Till next time!

Success! Central location, easy check-​in, awesome swag (from Unilocal and Asian Box), and great food and beverages. Snacks conveniently located around the bar and the food samples just kept coming! No shortage of food and beverages or fighting over a seat. Great first time event for us!
