Excel Plumbing Supply & Showroom

I’ve been working with Richard for just over 3 months now on a home remodel project. Richard and his staff have been very patient with my questions, order changes/​additions. He’s honest in his assessment of what is needed and doesn’t up-​sell. Can’t say enough good things about Excel Plumbing — very reasonable prices and great customer service!
The Excel showroom is also very accessible — play with all the fixtures to get a sense of what you’d like. Bring your measurements and ask about outside/​flange sink diameters — fitting for the kitchen sink was a little dicey since the cabinets were built before I decided on what kind of sink I wanted.
Excel can also special order most items not in stock. Can’t recommend them enough! And would prefer to support a local business over a big box store.

We wanted /​needed a couple of new toilets for our house. Called around to a bunch of places, and these guys had the best price (by far), were the most responsive, and delivered in the city for a very reasonable rate… what’s not to like? If you want a fancy showroom, I’m sure you can find better places. But personally, I didn’t need to see a toilet in someone else’s bathroom.

Honestly 2 – 3 stars. I was shopping for a shower head replacement for my mother-in-law’s shower and wanted better quality and name brand than lowes or home Depot could offer so I found this place. Unilocaled it. Decided to check it out. They have a beautiful showroom. Lots to choose from which is great so 2 stars. A few problems though…
At first, Richard was helping me and seemed very busy when I said excuse me and asked for help. In his haste to get back to his computer he actually spit on me accidentally while explaining that a certain shower head I wanted on display would need to be ordered. I wasn’t offended. It happens.
While looking for other options I discovered a sign in sheet I hadn’t noticed before so I signed in and kept browsing, making mental notes of the 6 or 7 shower heads I liked.
Shortly later, an older lady called my name and said «im not a sales person but can i help?» I said no thanks ill wait for someone in sales and i continued browsing until a short bit later, a girl named Tiffany called my name.
Tiffany tried to help but she seemed unreasonably rushed and disorganized. She seemed frazzled to the point where i started to feel bad for her or almost sorry if i had a question. as if i was bothering her. She never once smiled and it was almost like she was tired already of work. It was almost like she didnt want to be at work at all. At every turn she either didn’t know what was in stock or plainly told me they didn’t have it and had to order what I liked without checking. At one point she kept switching from helping me to another customer that was being helped by that first much older «non-​sales» lady that seemed new and didn’t know very much. I think at one point I asked about the 4 or 5 different shower heads I had made mental note of and she summarily said, «we don’t have any of those, they’ll have to be ordered.»
Fed up, I asked, «well let’s make this easy, you know what I’m looking for, can you suggest anything that you actually have in stock that I can buy today?» She went to check but got busy with the «non-​sales» lady again and the poor bewildered looking customer she was herself trying to help.
Incidentally, I bumped into a girl named Irene while Tiffany was off helping someone else in the middle of helping me and Irene was pleasant and nice but obviously busy and I didn’t want to pry her from another customer.
In truth, in all fairness, the place had a great showroom and wide selection but very limited on hand stock. The sales team seemed overwhelmed and overworked to the point, at least in Tiffany’s case, to where it began to show on their face and in their attitudes toward customers. She just seemed flustered. But that’s not the last of it…
After I decided to continue shopping around and I left with the few quotes Tiffany gave me, I discovered someone had double parked in the middle of the street and blocked me in. I went in and loudly but politely asked, «does this white car blocking me in belong to anyone in here?» To my surprise, it was Tiffany’s! Haha. And with the same lack luster, fed up disgruntled countenance she served me with, she sighed heavily, acknowledged that it was her car and begrudgingly moved it. I smiled and said, sorry and thanks. Then left. I’m glad I did because I Unilocaled on and went 3 min down the street to SOMA Supply on Howard and 12^th and met Jane. It was a completely different and satisfying customer experience thanks to Unilocal.SO SO glad I left Excel plumbing.
***if you’re still reading this, trust me. go to Soma supply. Atleast Unilocal them. They even have a testing shower with different sink faucets and shower heads you can try out. A way better store and sales staff with an equally large array of choices. ***

Pricing is quite competitive. I used them for my complete remodel. I highly recommend Excel Plumbing.

Excel’s prices are very reasonable and their showroom had a great selection of the fixtures we were interested in. The team there is very knowledgeable and were always helpful. Highly recommend!

Friendly employees, but not that impressed with the bathroom cabinet selection. They mostly have nice ultra modern hanging ones, but other than that not a lot of variety. Layout was a bit all over the place except for the toilets and kitchen products. They do have a good Toto selection.

Whether you are on a budget or timeline or not, they will find anything you need.

if you need a toilet or any thing in the bathroom, come here. if you need a toilet, i recommend toto and excel has 20 different ones to choose from. pick what you like from the show room and they will load your car with the product. everyone who works is knowledgeable about everything in the showroom. impressive.

I worked with Stacey to help plan my shower and bathroom fixtures. All I can say is ‘WOW’!!! Even Woody gives Stacey and Excel 5 barks!!! She was very knowledgeable and oh so helpful. After comparing Stacey and Excel to other local companies, she by far had the best price. But most important is that her customer service was beyond AMAZING!
She fielded many many questions from me and always answered with a smile. If she did not know the answer, she would have an answer by the next day. She was so helpful that even when she was on vacation I was taken care of by the entire team at Excel. They made me feel like I was their most important customer… even when they were extremely busy. They will even go to bat for the customer if something goes wrong with anything.
If you want excellent service and prices that all of the competitors can’t beat… then go to Excel Plumbing. I will definitely do my kitchen with them.

Richard is the best. He found the perfect sink to fit my 24″ IKEA kitchen cabinet after I had researched elsewhere for days and came up with nothing. Even better, it was in stock. I also was able to confidently buy my faucet because they had several floor models hooked up to a water supply for customers to test. A year later, I still rave to friends about my fabulous sink and faucet, and I rave about Richard as well. I figured it’s about time I rave about him here.
It doesn’t stop there, though. I also bought a water filtration system that day, and when I went in months later to buy a replacement filter, he pretty much recollected my entire order without even looking at his computer or files.
Working with Richard was the smoothest experience of my entire kitchen remodel. His excellent service and product knowledge inspired me to return to replace my bathroom sink (all my own idea, not an upsell). Their showroom is really well-​curated, so you don’t have to pass over a bunch of junk to find the quality items. And yet he walked me right over to the two sinks I would have picked out for myself (one of which I purchased). If I’m not careful, I’m going to talk myself into a complete bathroom remodel.

Talk about five star service. This is what we are getting…
We are doing a major home remodeling work. Our GC recommended we come here for the kitchen and bathroom fixtures. Richard has been so helpful. He is customer service is professional and superb! We will definitely go back for more fixture if we need to.

Very helpful, and nice too. More than willing to give guidance and opinion on products the do and don’t sell. I would highly recommend this business to anyone looking for bath and kitchen products. Great quality stuff, it’s been 5 years and my toilet and sink are functioning flawless.

Richard from the showroom sold me the wrong rough in valve.
He said the book indicates its the correct type.
He asked me to go online and read instructions.
I did.
I consulted with my plumber. I called him and he still said its correct. The box of parts came with no instructions and said on the side of the box «deck mount».
I needed wall mount.
I then visited the showroom to explain the valve won’t work.
He said call tech support while im in the showroom.
I did. they verified its the wrong type for what I asked.
I asked Richard to order the correct one and he explained I need to order another part to make it work and wanted me to go to the wholesale section and ask them what the part is?
I explained im going around in circles for two days and making the phone calls where he wouldn’t and now said «no I won’t write down the additional part you need».which I explained would reduce another problem.
I asked for a refund and he obliged.
He got the sence I was a contractor and reduced his customer service.
Im not a plumber or parts specialist.
This showroom is for the trade and public retail.
Dont know why he stood by the book and didn’t call the manufacturer earlier to be knowledgeable and help me.

Exceptional Service. This is my first remodel so I didn’t know the «lingo» for what I wanted in my shower. On top of that, my boyfriend and I couldn’t decide what we wanted and we each picked out different shower systems at Excel on seperate visits. Tiffany deserves a gold star for dealing with us on many different occasions. Vanessa, and Stacy also helped us and were absolutely friendly and great. The entire staff was also very sweet to our dog, Ozzy, that we brought with us to Excel on several visits to escape the construction noise at home. We enjoyed working with Excel, and I think Ozzy liked the visits too!

My Edwardian remodel is not yet complete, but I can already attest to the great customer service and selection at Excel Plumbing Supply.
Their name reveals very little about the caliber of their bathroom/​kitchen fixtures on display, with a strong modern bent.
What their South Van Ness ave showroom may lack in high end elegance is returned to you in the form of more money left in your pocket at a time when you’re definitely spending it!
Richard Cai was helpful in advising, and a special shout out of appreciation to Irene Lee who has been patient, professional and smiling throughout — even as I have needed a lot of education and changed my mind more than once. Thank you Irene!

Don’t be put off by the chaotic warehouse – which is the province of the plumbers who know what they are doing. This place also has a very nice showroom off to the left where several young ladies (you may need to sign up if it is super busy) can help you put a quote together. They really know their stuff. Prices on the popular items (which fluctuates with trends) are very competitive. For example, if you want a toto toilet or a duravit sink – come here!
My only quibble is that their products skew very euro-​modern, so if you are looking for something a little more traditional, this may not be the place to get the best deal.

C’mon, who wants to want to stress out in the ‘loo?
The mission was to adjust the water level in my toilet without relying on a plumber. I wasn’t totally sure how to do it, so I said, «Let’s just go to the plumbing supply store.» Sometimes, you see peope ask pharmacists for free medical advice, right?
Excel was one of the few stores that is open on Saturdays, so I decided to check it out. The people working there were very helpful, and the supplies were much cheaper than Home Depot and Lowes. Plus, it was great that I could make sure I bought everything I needed in one trip because they knew exacty what was wrong with my toilet. Then, I found a video from the manufacturer on how to install the new piece, so I wasn’t completely clueless when I got home.
Off-​street parking is available, but I just took muni. Very convenient. And lots of delicious restaurants around.

large scale warehouse and show floors… rare to see so many styles and choices in person… walls filled with shower heads… endless cabinets with sink variety and faucet choices… rolls of toilets to sit and choose… finding the prices very competitive… modern and contemporary choices… being able to see and feel each item was great… made selecting items for remodel simple… great prices without the haggle… prices already lower than the lowest internet and online prices found… paid and worker loaded the item in the trunk… back at home to install the toilet… these toto toilets use special mounts… little more work to get it installed, but look beautiful…
