my wife and I went on a Friday night with a reservation and we were seated promptly. The fried wonton crab starters were crispy and gooey delicious. The trout main dish with roasted onions and tomatoes was perfectly done and the quinoa and squash with feta vegetarian dish hit the spot! The staff is courteous, fast and efficient.

Stumbled upon this place looking for food. I had never been on this side of town and decided to just park and walk. I have tried several Peruvian places and so far nothing had been quite as good as I was hoping. This place is delicious, clean, friendly and perfect for a date or with friends. I didn’t order a main meal off the menu since I was t extremely hungry but I was pleased with my side dishes and would go back again.

Came here to celebrate my niece’s graduation from high school. It’s located in the hip and trendy Fillmore district so parking can be difficult to find. This area has a number of spots for shopping and dining. And, Fresca’s one of the places to go to! Prices were reasonable and the service was spot on. And, the food was all delicious! From the appetizers(fried seafood sampler, ceviche, plantain chips) to the many entrees(crab sandwich, paella, Lomo Saltado, Adobo de Chancho, Trucha Encebollada), everything was delicious and the portions were more than fair. Note that the drink selections are limited and geared towards Peruvian offerings. We did not try any of the deliciously sounding desserts as we were all too full! If you’re not inclined to deal with the parking issues of the«Fillmore», try one of their other locations!

While walking around the neighborhood on a sunny day, I stopped by and had lunch here. The dining area is a touch on the small side with an open kitchen, which I enjoy, because I like seeing how the chefs prepare the food. We ordered… Ceviche Mixto: The cubes of meaty fish, calamari, and shrimp tasted fresh marinated in citrus flavors. The yams and toasted nuts added variations of textures and some crunch. As someone who enjoys seafood and bright citrus flavors, it hit the spot for me. Pan Con Lomito — sauteed steak strips, onion, tomato, cilantro, soy sauce, cilantro aioli, toasted Dutch crunch: The steak sandwich had great flavor and was surprisingly tender. It was topped with tomatoes, grilled onions, and gooey cheese. I found the Dutch crunch a little hard, but it soaked up a lot of meat juices. Everything was pretty tasty. I don’t know much about Peruvian food, but the dishes here make me want to try more of it, especially the different ceviches.

The waitress’ face froze and panic soon overcame her expression as she received the news from one of the cooks that the order still wasn’t ready. While I couldn’t hear the conversation that took place, it was apparent something was very wrong. Panic turned into anger and her arms flailed in the air as she spoke to the cook, pointing at the plates of food on the metal counter area that were ready for pick up and then over to the table where our party was seated. She quickly calmed her expression as she saw that I had been watching their entire interaction. We had been waiting for over an HOUR for our food at this point. Frustration set in as we saw numerous groups, who were seated after us, but already finish up their meals and were getting ready to leave. On top of that, it was Mother’s Day. A staff member returned for a FOURTH time and this time she finally offered the truth. The previous three times she fed us lame excuses on how our food would be out in «10−15 minutes» or «really soon.» Customers aren’t dumb; we can do the math and keep time. We also know that when a manager has to come out multiple times to tell us «it’ll be just a few more minutes,» something is wrong. It just made this establishment look even worse when they finally offered to tell us the truth that there was a mix up in the kitchen(no kidding). Instead of making up for their mistake and offering their customers some sort of incentive to stay, they asked us if we would like to order more beverages and appetizers. We had enough at that point and our mom didn’t deserve such poor treatment on Mother’s Day. We informed the waitress we were leaving. She grabbed the manager and she came out to plead with us to stay. We calmly explained that we had been waiting for over an hour at that point and that it was Mother’s Day. It was rude to keep our mom waiting like that for so long. We we’re all very hungry. The manager’s only explanation was that it would«only take a few more minutes.» As we closed our tab for the drinks and the appetizers, the manager had the audacity to hand us a card and say, «Please come back next time. We’ll take better care of you.» I didn’t know what to make of such vague terms. «We’ll make it up to you,» «We’ll take care of your bill,» all would’ve sufficed. But I didn’t assume any of that since she didn’t offer to take care of our drinks and appetizers. It was a pretty horrible experience at this establishment. Why lie about how many more minutes it will take for the food to come out when you clearly have no idea? 30 minutes is already bad, but we were patient enough(or dumb enough depending how you look at it) to wait over an hour after ordering. The lame excuses were what bothered us the most. Our family walked down the street to Roam burger instead where we enjoyed a tasty late lunch.

As far as starters/appetizers go, there’s not many dishes I would place above Peruvian tiradito and ceviche. Not that entrée mainstays like lomo saltado or pollo a la brasa aren’t delicious; it’s just something about that raw, marinated, fresh fish that gets me. Thus it was I went in with great excitement and anticipation for a late brunch at Fresca. Unfortunately, the experience was all sorts of wrong. To put the punchline up front, service was lackadaisical, disjointed, and worst of all, unacceptably slow, to the point that we requested a discount on our bill on account of the needlessly long wait. That’s atypical of us, but, aside from the fact that we had a semi-large party of 6 and made advance reservations, the restaurant was hardly full that their attention might rightfully be diverted. Aside from that, nothing about Fresca’s ceviche and tiradito comes to mind, other than that their appetizer plates were wholly on the short stack side and hardly enough for 6. The flavor was fine. I think I went with the lechon asado sandwich, which I know is from the wrong part of the Americas, but just appealed to me at the time. That was filling, but maybe because by the time I dug into the sandwich, I was already ravenous.

Love! My bf took me here for a Valentine’s Day brunch and I loved it. Best part? There’s bottomless mimosas. Tip on those, btw. They’re NOT on the menu so you’ll have to ask for them. But they serve! And boy, are they good at making those always full. +1 there. So we got lucky that we came here right when it opened. My bf made a reservation and even got a text/email confirmation for 11. but when we told them our name, they didn’t have it. Like I said, we got lucky cause we were there early waiting for it to open so we got a table. But it was a little disconcerting that they didn’t our reservation on file when we got all the confirmation. My advice? Have your confirmation ready to prove in case they don’t have yours on file! As for the food. We got their calamari appetizer, crab omelette, eggs benedict(the one with the adobo pulled pork), and ceviche. I have to say that my favorite out of all these was the calamari appetizer. I love the way they add in seasoned raw onions on top of the fish. Really brought out the flavor with the lemon and tartar sauce(which, btw, was super yummy). The main dishes were good as well — I do have to point out that the adobo pulled pork was a little dry, but nothing that crazy. Crab omelette was as expected. Ceviche was pretty good, though their pieces were HUGE. We had to keep cutting the fish down. And if you like your ceviche mighty tart, you’ll love this! All in all, I really enjoyed this place. I would definitely come back here for my fix of mimosas and peruvian food :)

My first time trying Peruvian! Stumbled on Fresca randomly. I wanted to make a reservation for an early Valentine’s Day dinner, but of course, everywhere I thought of was all booked up. Running out of options, I filtered to ‘Takes Reservations’ on Unilocal and found this, which I’m really glad I did! Highly recommend making a reservation, since we arrived at 7pm on Saturday and heard that the wait was around 1.5 hours without one, ouch! We ordered a few things to share. — Ceviche Clasico: Tangy and flavorful. Our plan was to get the ceviche sampler(tasting of 4 ceviches), but their menu was a bit different from the menu online. It was actually a sampler of 6 ceviches, we passed on this since we wanted to save room for other stuff. — Chupe de Marisco: Creamy seafood chowder, this was really good. They don’t skimp on the seafood! — Pescado a lo Macho: Whole fried branzino and creamy seafood stew. We didn’t realize we ordered another creamy soup type of dish(oops). Still good, regardless. Don’t let the fact that it’s a whole fish deter you from trying it, the bones were pretty easy to pick out. Might not want to order this if you’re on a first date. We made a mess LOL We also got some yuca fritas cause I couldn’t resist, hehe. It’s a good side to share! If you haven’t tried yuca before, imagine the texture of fluffy potato. I just found out they have a brunch menu too *gasp* A very, very good reason to go back!

Don’t do it. Be careful with your decisions. Ask to look at the menu. Look at the crowd that is in the restaurant. If they don’t look happy, don’t sit down. Sadly, we didn’t pay attention. It’s Valentines Day. My husband searched tapas as a cuisine for the night. He made reservations and I was so ecstatic that he put in some thought to where we should eat. We showed up to the restaurant just in time for our 6pm reservation. The place had maybe 5 tables with couples seated. The couple at the door was looking at the menu; they quickly returned the menu and walked out. We realized it was prefixed at that moment. I asked if we could just go elsewhere, and he insisted we give Fresca a shot. As we sat down and reviewed the menu, we saw a few things that attracted our attention; we decided to stay. I ordered a sangria and he ordered a beer. The rest, was just depressing. –Day Scallops: Only good dish we tried. –Beet salad: Underwhelming to say the least. –Steak: Over salted. –Duck: Sweet(why?!), and the rice was so dry! I had to return this. There was no way we were paying $ 55 for food that tasted this bad. Exchanged it for a halibut instead. –Halibut: Overcooked with once again poorly cooked rice. –Bread pudding: I’ve had better at Nordstroms Café. Then the bill comes out. Please note that if you eat here, tip is not based on quality of service, but mandatory 18%. You can decide if they get more. But why would I give you more when I didn’t even get a glass of water? Sad to say this was one of my worst experiences at a tapas restaurant. When we looked around at the customers surrounding us, watching them pick at their foods with frowns on their faces, we knew we weren’t the only ones. That was a waste of $ 170.

#35 What a wonderful spot for a little lunch date. I have been here before but it was for a dinner engagement, very busy, very crowded, a bit of a wait. The lunch hour is so much better. We arrived, were greeted quickly, sat immediately and our server was at our table in less than a minute. Sublime. We began with the ceviche sampler which employed six different ceviche choices. All were absolutely amazing; however, my favorite was the tuna in a delicate ginger sauce. My companion was digging the salmon in a sweet sauce that we could not quite place, but it was crazy good. We also had a basket of salty plantain chips alongside of the ceviche. Perfect compliment to the dish. We chose a delicious Sauvignon Blanc with delicious notes of apple to accompany our ceviche. It really mixed well with our food choices. For lunch we went with a couple of sandwiches: Steak Sandwich w Field Greens Pesto Chicken Sandwich w Field Greens The Sandwiches were extremely healthy portions. The bread was super fresh. The salad alongside was phenomenal. All together, this was a wonderful lunch spot. From excellent service to outstanding food, Fresca is a great destination to end hunger. Stephani Smiles for Fresca ;) #todieforceviche

Made a reservation for bottomless brunch for a Sunday with a group of 6. We were all excited to enjoy the bottomless mimosas with our meal. It took awhile, but once our waitress came over and took our mimosa order all she said was«we don’t have that» without any explanation. I was determined I read this place had bottomless mimosas and they did. The hostess explained to us they ‘ran out of champagne’ and we had a Sangria option. We asked the manager if she could give us any deal since our intention was for the $ 12 bottomless mimosa. She didn’t budge. Our waitress never returned and our hostess ended up taking our orders! It was very odd. All in all, this place could be great if they ensure they’re stocked up on champagne especially after advertising their a bottomless brunch spot. We ended up spending over $ 60 each for an entrée and Sangria.

Made a reservation for 6 on Saturday night at 7:15pm. A bit of an arbitrary time, but that’s ok. We got seated a few minutes after arrival. We didn’t realize how tiny the restaurant was, so there was a lot of people in a small waiting area. Unilocal describes this place as a tapas bar, but I don’t think that’s completely accurate. However, we did order and eat family style, so that was a nice way to try a lot of different things. — Sangria carafe: really delicious! Not too sweet, but not really strong either. The fruit was good as well. Good amount for 6 people to taste a bit(not to get buzzed). — Shrimp ceviche: very tasty! The sauce was different from how I’ve had it before. It looked a bit green and also had nuts in it. — Tequenos: fried wontons with cheese, shrimp, and crab. Honestly, it was a bit too cheesy and too crabby. Not my fave. — Causa platter: a fancy mashed potato kind of dish. There were three different kinds. The dungeness crab and chicken salad ones were really good, and the beets salad was ok, too. Definitely an appetizer; each causa was about 3 inches in diameter, and 4 inches tall. — Paella: tasted pretty good. Everyone seemed to really like this one. Lots of flavor and a red sauce. — Scallop risotto: one of the specials of the day. I liked this dish much better than the paella. The scallops were huge, the risotto was nice and creamy/buttery, and overall it was very yummy! We shared all that among the 6 of us, and while the portions didn’t seem too big, everyone was very satisfied by the end of the meal.

People SAve your money, DO NoT come to this restaurant! Wait more than 5 minutes for the server to approach to our table to ask for drinks, when the food came: Lomo saltado COLD, ceviche was awful made of acid but lemon, anticuchos ok but poor presentation. The only ok plate was locro de quinoa. Chicha morada bad, servers don’t know from which side of the customer to serve, really bad first and last time. By the way: you guys should teach your servers to SMILE, this is a restaurant where people come to have a good time and eat good but you guys Completely dropped the ball on these aspects.

Went here for brunch and bottomless mimosas with a few friends. We showed up at 11am on a Saturday and the place was empty. The food was ok(nothing special for the price) but the service was awful. We were the only ones in there so I was surprised we didn’t get good service. To top it off, both the server and busser were very unfriendly. Save your money and go somewhere with better food and better service.

Definitely a great place for brunch — bottomless mimosas for $ 12.50! Can’t beat that! I liked how the brunch menu was crab heavy, and also how it had some more ‘entrée’ items, since I wasn’t feeling particularly ‘brunch-y’ that morning. I tried the crab omelet(with delicious home fries) and the pork shoulder over rice. Both dishes were the right portion, and delicious! Will come back for dinner to try their ceviche!

Great brunch and excellent service! My friend and I split the sweet potato pancake and a delicious quinoa, squash, and egg stew thing. Some friends and I decided to check this place out. Actually, they’ve been to Fresca many times and have nothing but great things to say. I’ve never been and was excited to try Peruvian cuisine! The joint sits in a super hip neighborhood but one things for sure: it’s super tight! I’m not a big person but keep in mind, you’ll have to squish your way through the joint if you get seated inside. It just showed me how popular they were! I don’t remember much of my interaction with our server. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, just didn’t stand out as much. For dinner, the Seco De Cordero for $ 28 really caught my eye. A huge lamb shank, slow braised, cilantro corn beer broth, mashed potatoes and salsa criolla came with the dish. WOW! The Lamb seemed to fall off the bone. You did not need a knife at all. The flavors were also very good. The broth was super rich and packed with flavor. The salsa included things like cilantro, onions and carrots. Great texture and fresh ingredients to help enhance the flavors. You should definitely try this place if you have not. The food really speaks for itself and I love that there’s a successful Peruvian place amongst a city filled with Italian and Asian cuisine. Can’t wait to go back!

I very much enjoyed my dinner here at Fresca. After a full day of exploring SF, we meet here with a local friend. Make reservations if you can. It’s a small place. We ordered: TEQUEÑOS: filled with crab, shrimp and cream cheese. great to start with. CEVICHEALIANZALIMA: Perfection. Just how I like my ceviche. Full of my favorite seafood, just a little sour from the citrus pairs with plantain chips. Steak Skewers: 2 skewers, flavorful. PAELLA: I loved the paella! Delicious. Service wasn’t too bad. I would definitely return when I’m in SF.

I have to agree with the other reviews… while the arroz con pata and tiraditos here are amaaaazzziing(you cannot find better roasted chicken or tongue-slapping sauce flavors anywhwre else), the service needs to step its game up to match the level of food. I had two servers for some reason, yet still didn’t get many water refills. One server would come with the menu and take our order, then the second server would come with the same menu as if we hadn’t been attended to. They did the same thing with the dessert menu and I found this very strange as the restaurant wasn’t particularly crowded on Monday night. As with my gripe about the West Portal location, they really need to install a heating system at the restaurant or more insulation. It is too cold here at night.

This place is really great! We have been here twice now and the food has been insanely good both times. We have tried the rotisserie chicken, the pork, the halibut and the duck and it was all delicious! The reason for the 3 stars, I’m sorry to say was service. As much as we love this place we always decide not to come back because the last two times the service has been atrocious. The hostess has been great and friendly both times but the the servers. Not so much. Both experiences our servers took almost ten minutes to get our drink orders, and never asked if we wanted another. I would’ve easily drank 2 or 3 glasses of wine both times but I could never find our server to order another. The first time was a guy who took our drink orders and then never came back so another server with an obviously full section stepped over to apologize and help which we appreciated but she was extremely busy as well. We were hoping the first time was a fluke so we brought some friends for dinner just a few weeks ago. Same situation. We waited forever for someone to take our drink orders, and we all only had one because our server never came back even though we had planned on buying a couple bottles of wine. To make it even worse, our guest had to get up and find someone to come take our payment just so we could leave. Basically the food is awesome but it makes it much less enjoyable without good service. I’m not sure if we will be back or not, our last experience left us extremely frustrated.

First time here, but went to many of their other locations. I love Frescas! Cannot go wrong with their Lomo Saltado, Paella, and Pollo a La Brasa Roast Chicken! Those three are a must when I come to any of their locations. Sometimes it is a hit or miss with their chicken being too dry, but definitely filling! This location is closest to my home, so I will be returning more often :)

The place is perfect! Good atmosphere, great food and welcoming staff. I went around 3.30 pm so it was rather empty — which I prefer. I started with the raw fish sampler — tradito sampler. It was divine, fresh and very tasty. The ahi tuna was by far the best one. I then tried the Causas with dungeness crab. Rather spicy(rocoto aioli) but very tasty if you like sharp tastes. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Next I ordered the beef skewers just to give this place a full review. Those were some tasty beef cutlets and I thought it was the best part of the meal. This has to now rank as one of my favourite restaurants in SF. Will have to come back again.

Love the food here. Must haves: –ceviche(obvi) –Tiradito neikki — raw tuna with truffle oil. Omg so good. Tuna and truffle were made for each other: –mussels(choritos) they didn’t overcook the mussels so they were nice and tender and the sauce was bomb sauce. Wish they would give more bread or even rice to lap up that deliciousness. Such a shame to let it go to waste! I actually poured onto the rice from one of our other main dishes so as to ensure maximum enjoyment ;) Been here twice and have had other main dishes on the menu and they were all good, but the ceviche, tiradito neikii, and mussels(aka choritos) really stood out to me. Service can be a little slow when it’s packed, but that’s expected!

First, the positives — the food here is good. I got the vegetarian dish, which was a thick kabocha pumpkin stew with veggies and quinoa, topped with a sunny side up egg and cheese. It was filling and flavorful! My friends ordered the paella and halibut, and they both liked their dishes as well. What keeps me from giving Fresca an even higher rating, though, is the poor service. Each server was really friendly and helpful when we could get his or her attention, but getting someone’s attention seemed impossible, especially since we were seated at one of the side tables. Even something as simple as asking for water was a struggle. A place as popular as this one needs more staff! I also felt the food was a few dollars overpriced, but I think if the service had been better, I might have felt differently. I’d probably come back for a weekday lunch, but not for dinner.

Trendy place with great food! The wait is pretty long, for us on a Friday night it was one hour but you can put your name down and they call you when your table is ready. The neighborhood is great for walking around. Super friendly and attentive service despite how busy they were. So many things on the menu sounded good. We got the tiradito nikkei — tuna, ponzu, truffle oil($ 14). So delicious I could eat so much of this! There were 5 slices and I wish it came with more. Tried the causa cangrejo which was mashed potato with crab salad($ 13). Unique flavors and really liked this dish. Then we shared the paella($ 28) and all of this was enough food for two. Generous serving of seafood and the rice was flavorful.

Friday night we decided on some Peruvian food in San Francisco so we made reservations at Fresco. We were meeting my daughter for a late dinner after work. Reservations were easy at 8:45 pm. The place was packed with plenty of people waiting outside when we arrived. The menu and vibe is simular to Limon but with out the pressure of eating fast. We started with a pitcher of Sangria and had the following: Ceviche Sampler all 4 of the ceiviches on the menu very good Plantain Chips excellent and went well with the appetizers Tiradito Sampler described by the server as sashimi 3 different kinds the only«miss» of the night a couple of pieces of unrecognizable fish swimming in sauces. Do not order. Anticucho Platter mixed skewers very good small portions though. Sweet Potato Fries crispy on the outside soft and tender on the side very good. Bisteck a Lo Pobre NY steak with chimmichuri sauce a fried egg on top with potato fries excellent asked for medium rare and they got it just right. Pollo a la Brasa Roast Chicken was just OK a little on the dry side comes with a dressed salad Paella was excellent one of the best that I have had in a Peruvian restaurant. Parking is what ever you can find on the street. Service was excellent. $ 207 before tip.

Spent Mother’s Day 2015 at Fresca and was very impressed with their Peruvian selections, but let down by the overwhelmed service. Fresca in Fillmore. Cue the exasperated sighs that ensue with the talk of parking in Fillmore. It’s nearly impossible to get street parking on Fillmore St unless you get lucky – like I did(holla!). It’s free after 6PM from Monday to Saturday, so YAY! We made a reservation through Unilocal, and met unexpected traffic coming from 101S, but we were able to call them and walk in at 6:15PM with a table! They gave us an hour to eat and get out, but that was no problem since we’re quick eaters :) We started with a mixed seafood ceviche and causa(that was my first time having this sweet potato stacked in a flan-shaped mountain!) with plantain chips with extra charge. Both were very delicious options, but the ceviche was overly sour… obviously too much lemon added, but that wasn’t too much of a turn-off. We also family style’d and shared their famous paella(we asked for no chicken and that was honored) and quinoa plate with the egg. ALL food items were delicious and flavorful – something expected at Fresca. I still dream of their yummy and fresh ceviche plus plantain chips! They also serve beer and wine. The service that day was smiley and courteous, but definitely understaffed. Mother’s Day is a CRAZY day for the dining industry, so I totally understand and don’t give Fresca any grief for it… but our poor server was so overstretched with her tables and a large party – we knew we couldn’t rush her with our one-hour time limit. Other noticeable points were the intimate atmosphere… this was perfect for our family of four, but also a great spot for date night. It’s a small-ish space, so I wouldn’t propose coming here with any parties larger than 6 – too much of a squeeze, but the food here is the bomb. Hats off to the chef and the hard-working servers that night!

Fantastic little spot! You will definitely need to get a reservation for this place because it is WILDLY crowded almost all the time. My girlfriend and I came here for Valentine’s Day, so that might have contributed to the mass, but from the look of the interior and the quality of the food, I would be shocked if this place wasn’t usually crowded. The food here, like I alluded to above, is amazing. I personally recommend getting the ceviche clasico and the trucha encebollada. The ceviche, while extremely tart, comes with a small chunk of sweet potato and a sprinkling of roasted corn, which help balance the dish with a hearty, full flavor. The trucha encebollada is a seated rainbow trout split down the middle with caramelized onions and peppers. The sauce is absolutely to die for, and the fish is spectacularly cooked. The flavors are intense, and they offer a side of white rice to keep it from overwhelming your taste buds all at once. Definitely would get this again. The service here is pretty dreadful, however. If the food wasn’t as good as it is, I would absolutely have knocked this place down a star. The servers take forever for even the most basic tasks: taking drink orders, refilling water, etc. I had to ask my server to bring water every time I ran out, and after I practically begged her to bring me my check, I had to walk up to her and physically hand her my credit card myself so that she would process the payment. I’ve heard Peruvian service is bad from my friends who have visited, so I guess this adds a flair of authenticity? *eyeroll* All in all, come for the food — not the service!
