All was well in Sushi boat land. My friend and I had enjoyed a few plates of reasonably priced and reasonably good sushi. We were even commenting on how we would probably return. However, when our bento boxes arrived they came with a cockroach. Totally grossed us out. the waitress was kind enough to kill the beasty, but then said nothing to us about it we waited for someone to come to our table and say something. You know along the lines of sorry that happened. We waited for like 10 minutes, finally I got up and asked to speak with the manager. The waitress said oh yeah we’re sorry about that ummm we’ll take 10% off your bill. Never going back there that is appalling. How hard is it to deal with the situation right away and make it right? Still grossed out :(

I used to come here all the time with my hubby because their sushi was cheap and they have this promotion where each boat dish is $ 1.99. But it’s always a hit and miss. Sometimes there’s a lot of people around dinner time, sometime not. When there’s more people they make different items, when there’s not a lot of people then you’re stuck with the regular stuff unless you order from the menu. Staffs also changed. The new staffs are SLOW. We went once where there were only 4 other diner and 3 visible waitress and we couldn’t even get a refill of tea. Must seek out other sush

I used to come here ALL the time but stopped. I liked it because I was intrigued by their sushi boats. It’s cheap, but the quality is meh. The reason why I stopped coming here is because one time, I actually got chased by a waitress while I was already OUTSIDE of the restaurant. She said we didn’t leave her enough tip. REALLYLADY!!! AREYOUKIDDINGME!!! Tip is a privilege not a right of passage. Horrible reflection of the restaurant.

My friends and I use to come here a lot, just because of the whole sushi on floating boats for a cheap price idea. Back then, each plate you grabbed would vary in price from $ 1 – 2 but now everything is just $ 2, I guess it;s just easier. Wouldn’t really recommend this place for lunch simply because they don’t have that much variety out during that time.(It doesn’t get THAT busy plus they close around 2 – 3 and open up again for dinner later so they probably don’t want so much uneaten pieces circling around for hours) Overall nice, chill environment. Better to come for dinner than lunch. Cheap bento boxes, 1 item for $ 6, 2 items for $ 7, ungai rice bowls are only around $ 5 as well.

i never really liked sushi boat type of sushi restaurants, and the last time i’ve been to this particular one was few years back. Came here for a late lunch yesterday and was again super disappointed. We were the 2nd party in the restaurant, and i can see the sushi on the boats were not fresh at all,. The salmon and tuna were turning brown on the edges, and the avocado were super dry looking. i would not come back ever again…

I came here all the time back then, why? BECAUSEIT’S CHEAP and that’s it. Sushi tastes okay, but I like how usually we sit around the sushi boat area and we get to pick the dishes off. But ONE day, we saw a bug on the side of the boat and we told one of the chefs. He just picked it off… ehhhhh…I guess. I haven’t been back here for awhile, because I found GOODQUALITY cheap sushi elsewhere.

Some of the sushi dishes might have done a few laps before we got there, but I can’t deny the tastiness of it when I put it in my mouth. Hypnotically looping sushi boats lull you into a relaxed state of mind(if you don’t get dizzy first), and every one of them is worth staring at, just in case there’s something new. Sometimes, a fried banana with a sweet syrup swizzled over it will show up, tempting you to grab it even if you’re not quite ready for dessert. Maybe I’m a sushi n00b, but this stuff wasn’t bad. I enjoyed pretty much every plate, and each plate is only $ 1.95, so you can feel safe trying out different things. It’s also a great place to go with someone you don’t know very well, because you aren’t positioned directly across from them, and you have plenty to distract yourselves with when the conversation dips into perceived awkward silence. I don’t go to the Richmond often, since it’s pretty much a transit no-fly zone by my standards, but I would come back to Fune-Ya if I came back to the neighborhood with an empty stomach.

I used to go here all the time in college. Decided to check the place out a couple of days ago– 1.95 for each item on the sushi boat, whihc is basically different variations of deep fried crab salad– seems like most of the sushi had crab + mayonnaise AND was deep fried with sweet teriyaki sauces poured over to mask the flavor of poor quality ingredients. The kicker: seeing a baby COCKROACH run across the table as we were paying our bill. It took all the self control I had not to regurgitate all over the sushi boat. I guess you get what you pay for.

Sushi boat restaurants are usually a big NO-NO for me. Buuuut, this is the only place around my work that opens at 11am and can pump out a large order of food by 11:30ish for my large work crew. We usually order around $ 250 worth or food and they get it done! They put our sushi on these large trays and I give them a thumbs up for making things look nice. We love the deep fried California rolls and the deep fried spicy tuna. We have some orders we get regularly and the staff seems to like it enough that they know when I order from somewhere else. I’ve never eaten at the restaurant and I doubt I ever will but for my catering needs these guys have been great!

Ok for the quality and price. The fun part is that they have a pretty decent sushi boat thing :) Lol quality isn’t top, but it’s not terrible, seeing as it’s not run by Japanese people. It’s a good cheap eat place, when all the other restaurants have long lines.

Found this place when I went to Genki for dessert. This was the only sushi place around so we decided to try it. First off, when you walk in, it looks old and dingy. There is a sushi bar with moving boats, but I generally don’t like that. I want to know what is in my sushi. I ordered the beef udon but substituted it with ramen noodles. My sister had the chicken katsu udon. We also order the dragon roll and the lion king roll. The prices here are relative cheap except for the rolls. The bentos start from five bucks and up. The floating sushi was about two dollars. Too bad I wasn’t in the mood for any of that stuff. My ramen came out and I really liked the texture of it. It was not too hard or soft. Just right. The broth was great too. A lot of beef flavor and not too salty. I sipped a lot of it. For my sister’s udon, her broth was actually chicken and tasted like it too. I thought they would just give up the same thing. The rolls came out like the usually do. No decorations on the plate. The dragon roll was not spectacular, but I liked the taste of the unagi. The lion king roll wasn’t drenched with a lot of mayo like other places do. I liked that. The flavors didn’t overpower me and the salmon was nicely cooked. Overall I would say, this place is okay for a quick bite. They were fast with their food, but I wouldn’t go here again unless I had to.

The girls here look very unhappy to be there which makes me very unhappy to be there. A lot of the stuff in the sushi boat is cold. DUH I know sushi is suppose to be cold but they have a lot of random stuff that suppose to be hot like the oysters and this thing that comes in a ceramic cup. Special promotion: every roll on the picture menu is $ 6.95.

I haven’t eaten real sushi in about 8 months, but after finally eating some at this restaurant, my craving was satisfied. I am not very experienced with sushi, but I did get the chance to try different kinds there. The only thing i didn’t like is that they mostly stuffed the sushis with crab and unfortunately, I didn’t get to see any real unagi rolls on the boats. I thought I saw one, but that was eggplant. The sushi was alright, especially the Spicy Tuna rolls. But the service wasn’t excellent. To me, an excellent service is one where the waiter comes by to check on you at times and asks if you need anything or at least in this case, serves you more green tea when your cup is almost empty. They didn’t do much except bring the dishes you ordered and take them away, and yet, we still tipped them well… Overall, it was«A-OK.»

Ate here last night with my BFF … surprisingly it was busy. I’ve ate here in the past with one of my close friends and it was literally just the two was us eating there. Anyways … lets get to the critic. They had a special where small plates that were rotating around the«sushi boat» was $ 1.95 each. And they had another special where every roll in the menu was $ 6.95 each, really cheap for sushi boat restaurant. Their sushi was I may say filling, just alright. Its not the worst sushi, but not the best also. The service was not that bad, they just took long to get to you for your order and also waiting for your order; yet they were pretty attentive. One thing that I was effy about was my glass of water, the particualr roll that I ordered was pretty spicy lol. Sounds silly, but they only filled it up half way and they’re was some type of white sauce on the tip of my cup. IDK it kinda looked gross, but then yet again I’ve had worst(like a fly in my drink at Kiki’s Sushi).

The good– –Promotional deals($ 1.95/plate on sushi boat, $ 4.951 item bento, $ 5.952 item bento box, $ 6.95 all special rolls) –Lion King Roll(cooked well, flavorful) –Bottomless warm tea(they kept refilling my cup despite it was filled to the brim) –Selection on sushi boat –If you don’t do the raw fish, and just the California roll variations, this place is okay. –Friendly hostess, waitress & servers –California roll, topped with shrimp, avocado & spicy mayo The bad– –Watching the same stuff go around numerous times(Do they remove plates that have been there for long?) –The wait for our ordered food(20 mins for bento box!) –The waitress messing up our bill Verdict– You get what you pay for, so cheap food… ehh okay food. Don’t have high expectations when you go here. Still I think its much better than sushi I’ve had in the city/peninsula that charge ridiculous amounts for CA rolls.

I tried this place with my cousin and her boyfriend because they said they think it’s cheap and has decent sushi but I beg to differ. We did the sushi boat thing and it was such a LONG meal because NOTHING was coming by. There were tons and tons of the SAME sushi that no one was eating! Given, we did get there pretty early so we were one of the few people that were doing the sushi boat thing so that’s maybe why they were skimping on the variety, but I just remember sitting there staring at the same california rolls roll by OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again. I really wanted some unagi rolls so I asked the lady to make me some and it wasn’t too appetizing to see her take the precut unagi strips out from the freezer, stick it on a slab of sold rice and pop it in the microwave. Then she tossed it on a place and served it to me. YUMMYFRESHNESS! NOT! The only sushi that tasted semi decent were the spicy scallops. But like I said, it was RARE and not readily available for you. The only reason this place got 3 stars is because it’s pretty nice restaurant on the inside(it’s clean) and the service wasn’t too bad. *shrugs* Two stars would have been just too mean right?

My first one star review. Im sorry Fune-Ya. If I were to review you a few years ago, you woulda been a definite 5 stars, but now… now youre just gross. I was just there about 5 hours ago, &the first thing I saw, EDAMAMEBEANS ! yum. but as I was eating it. I was thinking to myself. where did the salt go ?! This may be a pretty big problem because I am currently sick and my sinus’s are congested as fawk, so I can barely taste anything that does not have a strong flavor. Yeah. no salt at all, BOOOOO. I saw a Unagi roll, usually I’d grab that off the boat in an instant, but my boyfriend pulled my hand back&went«cant you see? Its like a few days old, dont eat that» so. I looked at it again, it was a dry piece of crap! =/ We waited. and waited and waited. my boyfriend eventually ordered a caterpillar roll, because Im allergic to fish. and I can’t eat anything raw. I know what youre thinking, why the heck do I go to so many japanese sushi restaurants?! I dont know, kill me then=.= So I decided to give the boats and the sushi makers the benefit of the doubt. and waited. and waitedd… until i finally decided to grab this crunchy squid thing with seaweed on top, omg, tasted like crap. I immediately handed it to the boyfriend, because he eats anything&everything. He’s a machine, not Optimus Prime status, more like a vacuum. or like Garbage Disposal. I grabbed one more plate. &again, was not satisfied. The caterpillar roll tasted pretty bland too. I know this because I ate a whole chunk of wasabi to clear my sinuses.&I was finally able to taste a bit again. My boyfriends favorite was the fried banana with syrup. I ordered the soft shell crab because I was irritated. I was literally getting full from waiting ! The soft shell crab tasted gross, no crab, just the fried nasty stuff&vinegar. So we finally decided to get the check, We waited 50 mins, ordered 2 things, &got about 3 plates off the boat+edamame beans. total was about 27. Yeah, really, no thanks. My favorite part of the meal was the wasabi. Maybe its a Tuesday, but I’m just sick of giving Fune-Ya chances, I don’t think I will be back for a LONNGGG time.

inexpensive, well-prepared sushi, what’s not to like? Not the best sushi, but the quality to cost ratio is off the charts.
