This place is the spot at any time of the day to get some quality food whether is fruits, coffee, or of course croissants. You can always expect a friendly smile behind the counter to help you with your purchase.

Popped in here for a quick snack on our way to the Asian Art Museum on a Thursday. Bought a dozen donut holes to share… sooo good. You’re probably thinking. wtf they’re just donut holes… but come on folks it’s the simple things in life. The texture is chewy but not too doughy and definitely not dry what so ever. I’ve been thinking about them everyday since last week, I’m about to go get some as a Friday treat to myself.

Bought:(1) chocolate croissant(1) cheese danish Total: $ 4.50 — CASHONLY(atm present) Let’s first start with a size comparison. The chocolate croissants here and at least 3x the size of the ones at Starbucks AND for the same price! The cheese danishes are at least 2x bigger! Most pastries here are $ 2.25 which after constantly going to Starbucks and Peets for their puny pastries, this strikes me as a reasonable price. The croissant and cheese danish were flaky and delicious. The cheese on the cheese Danish tasted different than other cheese Danishes that I’ve had so I think I’m just going to stick with the chocolate croissant next time. There is constantly a stream of people coming in but the workers here are very efficient and will go through people quickly. The outside doesn’t look impressive but the pastries inside are! There’s also a lot of seating and coffee choices available. I was a little nervous to come here after reading that cockroach review but I’m glad I decided to try this place out. Don’t get me wrong, this place is right outside of the tenderloin and the inside of the store could use some cleaning but I didn’t stay long enough to investigate and nor do I ever intend to. Friendly workers, great food, quick service!

Came for croissants. Left happy. These croissants are bigger than the ones I’ve picked up from a local coffee shop and oh, so much more butterier and flakier. And bigger. I don’t consider myself much of a size-ist, but when it comes to this place and their croissants, bigger is better. Thank you, Gateway. I am a happily satisfied woman. There’s other stuff on the menu too but why would you bother when you can gift your face with croissants?

This place isn’t really spectacular from the outside, but I recommend you come in and discover the wide variety of baked goods they have here. I wanted to try the namesake, and the croissant was pretty good. I can’t say it comes close to other top bakeries in the city for quality, but if you’re a person who can’t decide, this is the place. There must be 100 different choices of pastry and other small bites. They had a full menu too including sandwiches, but I wasn’t really paying attention. 3 stars due to the focus on quantity over quality, and because the croissant was $ 2.25(cheaper than the best, but thr quality did not correspond accordingly). Still would recommend you check it out, you may find something you’ve never tried before.

This place is awesome! My friend and i fell in love this place for ALL pastries we ate. I love cinamon pastry the most! My friend and i chose pastries LITERALLY for 10mins cause they all seem soo perfect for our night meal! And one of the awesome things of this place is OPEN24hrs! Im so glad for finding a place for my breakfast tomorrow! Also the owner(or maybe just staff) is super nice. She saved me, total stranger, from homeless right now(im writing review right after i finished up breads). thank you!

It was around 12am and I was looking for a burrito but all the mexican food restaurants were closed damn! However I found this place, 24hours! An asian lady is super nice to me and I ordered two breads first. Strawberry with cheese croissant and cream cheese danish Both are super delicious! I think they are like breads that I have eaten in Asia So I had one more bread, «cinnamon twist» It was the best I’m gonna get it again next morning!

Today will definitely be my last time ever coming to this shop. My first experience here was alright, got a pastry and coffee. My second time I ordered a coffee and breakfast sandwich and a lady at the register overcharged me because I asked for egg whites only. Today I ordered a coffee, breakfast sandwich and donut. I was given the donut first and asked to wait for my breakfast sandwich. I completely forgot to grab my coffee and the same guy who charged my order wanted to charge me again for a coffee when I literally walked out the shop for a minute. I reminded him that I already paid, and sarcasticly he joked«yea yea friend I’m just kidding», you sure as hell didn’t seem like you were playing when you wanted to charge me for a coffee I already paid for. I ended up getting my coffee, while I was preparing my coffee I noticed a cockroach climbing the sugar bin. I squashed it with a coffee sleeve, and took it to the counter to show one of the main ladies who runs the store. I was patient enough to wait for her to finish ringing up a customer instead of blurting out saying their shop has roaches. She simply gave me a dumbfounded look and said«oh okay». I would have demanded a refund for the food I bought if I wasn’t pressed to be on time for work. So in a nutshell, I will never eat or take my business here.

Gateway to crappy donuts! I bought three here, two crumb cake donuts and a buttermilk bar. First, the crumb cake donut should have crumb on the entire donut, but these did not. Second, the buttermilk bar had no hint of buttermilk taste to it, but rather some weird sort of indescribable sweet flavor. In addition, the buttermilk bar was super doughy/undercooked in the center. My advice? Avoid.

My all time favorite donut place in the city!!! Great service, awesome prices, and yummy donuts, croissants, and muffins. Favorites: glazed twist, apple fritter, cinnamon donut, peach muffin, hot chai The women who work are are the BEST– super warm and friendly :) They are always patient even when it’s busy. I was worries that a philz across the street would put them out of business but the locals keep coming here so they are still doing well. Cash only(I usually don’t go to places that don’t take cards but I make an exception for gateway ;)

The lady who works here is REALLY nice. Bless her heart. We came here after the Kid Cudi concert and the line for this place was going out the door. She was the only one working and it was 11 at night. She got everyone in and the line was gone within a matter of minutes. She was so speedy and prepared. Also, the glazed donut I got was fresh, which is totally rare for donut places that late at night. This place deserves five stars.

Really nice lady manning the counter. She was very helpful and patient. The chocolate donuts, glazed donuts, and croissants were pretty good. I’ll have to stop by more often and try out the other pastries in their case.

I work near this place although its in a pretty sketchy area, the service is excellent and the pastries are pretty good. Not to mention larger than your average donut or croissant or scone. Caution their stuff is laced with butter so if you don’t like buttah then don’t get a scone or muffin. I always get a coffee and an almond croissant which helps me get through the sometimes longish days at the office . Speaking of the coffee, its a little weak and watered down, so if management is reading this please increase the coffee ratio. Especially if you live on the strength that us PhilZ, Four Barrel, or the French Roast across the street. Otherwise great stop to score brownie points off your coworkers.

This place is open 24 hours? The food and service here is decent, staff seemed friendly. But everything can be better though. Last time I made a stop here, I bought a donut and a cup of coffee which was $ 4 or $ 5. Decent pricing for a quick pastry and coffee. If you work in an office nearby, then this is another great spot for pastry and coffee.

Good food in a bad neighborhood. They gave breakfast, donuts, and of course, croissants! Nice display case loaded with great sweets. The only problem is the corner that it’s on. You have to have an escort and even then, it’s iffy! Grab your food and run!

2.5 Stars 24 hour donut place… no way! Too bad its in a slightly less than desirable area. Oh wells… I decided to try the apple fritter and a chocolate covered custard filled donut. Here were my grievances. The apple fritter tasted burnt, there wasn’t enough sweetness due to the overpowering fried flavor and there were hardly any apples. As for the custard filled donut, I ask, where was the filling. What little I did get was actually tasty and balanced well with the donut. Overall Thoughts 24 hour donut place that serves adequate donuts for a reasonable price but nothing out of the ordinary

3.5* DISCLAIMER: I only tried their HAM&CHEESECROISSANT. ___________________________________ For a place that has the word«Croissant» in its name, I would imagine their croissants would have to be mind-blowingly good. Well, their croissant alone was pretty standard. So, I love ham & cheese croissants. There was a Jakarta-based coffee shop franchise I used to love going to specifically for their ham and cheese croissants, stuffed with a chicken«ham»(since pork isn’t really common in most Muslim countries) and a delicious mornay both inside and on top. The croissant was light and buttery, the ham and cheese well distributed, and the ratio of filling to dough was about 65:35. Every once in a while, I get a craving for a good ham an cheese croissant and I start searching Unilocal specifically for places where the ham and cheese croissant in particular comes strongly recommended. That was what drew me to Gateway Croissant. The ratio of filling to dough is probably closer to 30:70 here, like many places in the U.S. The ham wasn’t really spread out too evenly, more clumped in the middle with a little less cheese than I prefer. Still, flavor-wise the ham and cheese falls somewhere between A-OK and Yay!

On the donut croissant tour of the bay area, we figured with«croissant» in the name, Gateway Croissant had to be good? The store is in a good location near the SF courts and there are many customers coming in and out. So turnover of items is almost walk-in based and also frequent enough to keep things fresh. The donuts were fine – just what you might expect – solid. The ham and cheese croissant really had no cheese to speak of. We sort of missed that gooey goodness one hopes for on a hungry morning. So that was a disappointment. Getting beyond the cheese disappointment, it was ok but not especially memorable. The donuts were better in this case for us. They had a nice assortment of self serve coffees and efficient service.
