Ghirardelli Chocolate

Considering you are still touring Cali and you have decided to take in Frisco, by all means this is a landmark location and yes, you should stop to shop and taste some of the most wonderful chocolate items that they have in their store. Put this on your list of must do’s when visiting San Francisco. Sit outside the store and enjoy some of the best chocolate made.

What’s not to love about this place… chocolate, ice cream and everything about San Francisco! The only thing that takes a star off for me is the seating arrangement here and chaos, but other than that this place is 5 star all the way. All the employees are super friendly and always nice and make coming always a great pleasure. On a recent trip on a rainy day and even though it was cold we decided on a strike it rich… butter scotch, hot fudge, butter pecan and ice cream. This bout the spot along with a couple of hot coffees and a few chocolates to sample… something about being in San Fransisco and never being able to skip this place…

I love this place, it is the historical flagship store of Ghirardelli Chocolate in San Francisco. It is such a fun place for the whole family or any visiting friend. They sell Chocolate just like peanuts, cheap! I am not really into American Chocolate, but I am a big fan of Ghirardelli’s ice cream, the portion is HUGE, but I have a sweet tooth so this is really fantastic. After a good ice cream treat, you can walk down to explore Aquatic Cove or Fishermans Wharf. I do recommend to come here on sunny day, which is rare in San Francisco but it worths the wait.
Also, there is no waiting in line or anything so Yayy…
If you’re one of those foodies who prefers artisanal/​house made Honey Lavender ice cream and a 45′ waiting in line like at Bi Rite. This is not That place.

The sundaes are almost as delicious as this city itself. Go here!

ok seriously, can you really go to SanFran without going to Ghirardelli Square? NO! Ghirardelli is one of the best chocolate sellers in America with a wide variety of flavors that are made to be smooth and enjoyed rather than simple mass produced sugar. The staff is super friendly and patient, despite the raging customers with hundreds of demands. Also, for a simple chocolate shop, this place is fun! Great place to go after Sunday Service, or a hot summer day.

It was okay for an ice cream that cost almost $ 6. Parking was incredibly expensive. I wouldn’t come back just how crowded the place is but it is a must see sight seeing place

A little over-​priced, but not for this area. This is an absolute must-​see for anyone who visits here. And the staff is almost always cheery and considerate.
But, the sundaes and such are not as great as they were.
Still, the ambiance and the history (especially at night) is something one will never forget.
A reminder that restrooms are tough to find and not nearly enough for the crowds. If the Maritime Museum across the way is open, go there.

This place is chocolate heaven! The hot chocolate is to die for. The warm brownie sundae is amazing. The ice cream is so rich and decadent you just can not get enough. The atmosphere is great! If you are in San Francisco you have to try this place.

One of the best Dessert places. We visit this place each time we are in San Francisco and many a times each day of our stay there even. We have tried all the ice cream options available and it’s extremely hard to choose one over the other.
Basically you gotta experience it at least once if you are in San Francisco!

Purpose: Wanted to hand over my hard earn money knowing there are better ones around just was feeling lazy at the moment. Okay alright I was also looking for a free sample chocolate squares hand out like the union square and Westfield centre offers when a customer walks in. They didn’t have any today I think only on the weekends.
Ambiance: Not shabby but definitely not good also. From the outside it looks magnificent but once you enter its a whole different ballgame. Think of a bakery, old fashion soda pop place, candy store, ice cream parlor all roll into one place.
Staff: Young energetic junior high level students working. They are probably trained to see a local coming or an touristy. Acknowledge is notice right away as you walk in if it was busy no one would even look your way. Seems like they’re glad the warmer weather and summer is over very calm relax attitude mellowing at distances.
Eats: A sundae bit I ask for it to be in a milkshake form to go. Caramel, dark chocolate, was plentiful but tasted very generic compare to the past. I felt like there was chemicals or some kind in it. Just don’t taste right. Did they revised their receive? I don’t know but at $ 9.75 I swallow my pride and pay for it.
Expectations: Good staff with some of them milling around. Tables are not set up after someone finishes so you might have to bring it up yourself or wait til there’s a chance for them. Watch the parking meter and again turn your wheels outward the hill is kind of steep DPT were in front tagging away for yellow curb and wheels not turn. Go here if you’re incapable of traveling any further for the samething just at a way lower price or press for time. Weekends is a must avoid as you’re enjoying your desserts other families will give you the stink eye like saying «well are you done yet». Limited seating and relatively small shop leads to this problem.
Final Thoughts: Ghirardelli is a well know company as a second to say Hershey’s I mean that how I see it in my pov. I’ve had better chocolates from other makers my current favorite is Domori chocolate there something about them that’s hard to explain. Kind of reminds me of starbux many around but nothing unique about it.

If you’re in San Francisco you obviously need to come here to have a ice cream sundae. You need to be prepared for very long lines, brisk service, and and almost impossible task of finding a table. When you do find a table it will probably be filthy. Even though every day this place is packed, management doesn’t bother to keep them clean. Sometimes they screw up your order like they did with me and you have to go downstairs and get it fixed which actually didn’t take long. Summary: wait in line forever to place an order, spend $ 10 on a Sundae that you will struggle to find a table to eat it at and yet you will still tell people to come here.

Es war sooo lecker hier! Ich hatte den Klassiker einen Hot Fudge Sundae (Eisbecher mit Schokoladensoße und Schokolade oben drauf)! Wahnsinn! Unglaublich lecker und sehr sättigend.
Super ist, dass es auch was zum Probieren gibt! ;-)
Mein Tipp: Sundae to go und dann an den naheliegenden Strand und das Eis ganz in Ruhe bei tollem Blick auf die Bay genießen! Top!!!

Great chocolate and decent ice cream, even if both are a little touristy. The earthquake sundae is a must.

Ok, so that’s not completely true as your hot chocolate didn’t quite meet my expectations, but those cellophane bags containing the selection of flavoured chocolate squares got me weak at the knees. The raspberry filled turned out to be my favourite (the vanilla bean white chocolate one not so much), but seriously loved eating my way through that bag. I have to concur that it’s not cheap, but I’ve eaten a lot of crap and excellent chocolate, and Ghiradelli is definitely up there as one of the better indulgences in the chocolate confectionary world.

Ein toller Laden, den man immer wieder gerne besucht! Die Schokolade ist weltklasse.

Ghirardelli square is one of the most famous places and with chocolate, ice cream and so much more you absolutely have to visit here.
Why?
Because Ghirardelli and SF are entwined :-)
But also there is more chocolate here than you could every possibly imagine ever eating and the first thing they do is thrust a piece in your hand.

Auch wenn es als Schweizer schwer fällt, die Schokolade und der Schokoladengeschmack, den Ghirardelli Chocolate umgibt, ist fantastisch. Am nördlichen Ende der langen Pier Zone von San Francisco gelegen, in Mitten des Ghirardelli Square Shopping Centers, ist dies der ideale Platz für eine gute Tasse Kaffe (italienischer Stil, nicht amerikanischer Kaffee), ein Cookie oder Fudge dazu oder eine der Eiscream Kreationen.
Es gibt viel Platz im Innern, aber auch einige Tische ausserhalb des Restaurants — wenn man nicht allzu spät am Nachmittag kommt und ein bisschen Wetterglück hat, bekommt man noch ein gutes Stück Sonne dazu.

So, you thought Americans knew nothing about making chocolate?
Think again!
Of course this is not the cheapest chocolate in the world, but neither is the best swiss chocolate.
At Ghirardelli’s you can find a wide variety of chocolates and ice cream sundaes… everything tastes just great, if i lived in San Francisco, I’d be big and round just from eating there!
Definitely worth a visit!

apparemment la marque est très connue dans le pays, mais bon je né peux pas dire c les meilleures chocolats que j’en ai mangé, franchement, je trouve que les chocolats en Europe à moins qu’en France et Bruxelles que je connais sont quand même meilleur (bon, je passé sur les beurk), les truffes à la champagne, orangette, chocolat noir praliné…miam
j’admets que le goût est pas mal même s’il y en a des meilleurs en Europe. si vous n’avez pas l’occasion d’aller les déguster en Europe, c toujours une bonne adresse pour les accros choco

Obwohl man um Süßigkeiten in Kalifornien aus Kaloriengründen fast schon automatisch ein Bogen macht, hat sich der Besuch dieses Ladens in jeder Hinsicht gelohnt. Toll aufgemacht. Es riecht schon sehr lecker und dann erst der Geschmack — einfach großartig. Es fällt wirklich schwer, sich zurückzuhalten. Mittlerweile scheint es mehrere Läden zu geben, wir kennen eins an fishermans warf und eins in der Nähe des union square.

Und da heisst es immer, die Amerikaner können keine Schokolade machen! Das hier ist der Himmel auf Erden! Die Sünde schlechthin — und man nimmt schon ungefähr drei Tagesrationen an Kalorien zu sich, wenn man den Laden nur betritt! :-)
Aber: wer nicht bei Ghirardellis war, der war nicht in San Francisco! :-)
Unbedingt einen Eisbecher essen — aber Vorsicht: das ist nichts als Dessert nach einem guten Essen! Ein Eisbecher mit zwei Kugeln ist hier eine — ach was: zwei Mahlzeiten auf einmal! :-)
Kombiniert mit Cream, Fudge (warm und kalt), Cookies, Chocolate Sirup, Obst, etc. — kommen hier die kinderfaustgroßen Eiskugeln in großen Eisbechern (Sundaes) daher.
Fazit: wie gesagt — San Francisco ohne gibt’s nicht! :-) Vielleicht als Abendessen einplanen und nur frühstücken? :-)

I love the Milkshakes! They aren’t cheap but they are oh so worth it and the free sample of chocolate upon entering the store is a nice touch.

The Ice cream Sundaes here, while not cheap, are the best I have ever tasted.
