Glen Park Village Farmers’ Market

I feel like many of the complaints about this market are based on misplaced expectations. Glen Park doesn’t really see itself as a destination, and the market reflects this. It is a farmers market for folks in the neighborhood. B/​c it is right next to BART it can also be convenient for others. I actually love that there aren’t food trucks or craft stands… it is a simple place to buy food for the week. It would be nice to have a few more stands, but I think there’s probably a sweet spot of # of vendors /​audience… and we’ve reached it. My only complaint would be: open an hour earlier! By the time 10am comes around it feels like the morning is half over… sometimes I miss the market b/​c I’m already out (hiking, etc) for the day. I understand vendors may drive from far away, which necessitates a later start… but just throwin’ it out there.

Tiny farmers market (~8 vendors, no food trucks), slightly elevated prices but otherwise very similar to the Thursday Farmers Market on 22^nd and Mission. It is conveniently located right outside the Glen Park Bart Station, in the adjacent parking lot.
Nice place to visit but not a destination farmers market. Loved the über fresh kale and chard!

This farmers’ market is awesome, it is right across the street from Glen Park Bart and they have plenty of stuff. They also usually have live music. It’s not super crowded.

It’s always nice to have a farmers market in the neighborhood. This always give consumers an alternative yet a flexible option for produce. Some of the vendors running the stands are friendly. This is a great spot when you prefer to go to a Sunday farmers market instead. If you’re someone who is into getting produce at a local grocery store or farmers market, then this place and Canyon Market around the corner serves you well.
They are here at the Glen Park BART Station parking lot on Sunday only from 10 am — 2 pm. This year, they here from March 31, 2013 — November 24, 2013.

Glen Park Village Farmers’ Market begins on Sunday, March 30, 2014 and ends on Sunday, November 23, 2014. It continues to be available at the Glen Park BART Station Parking Lot every Sunday from 10 am — 2 pm.

Comparing to all other farmers markets in the city, this one is very small and quite pricey. Maybe 12 vendors the most.

This farmer’s market is alright, but with the Alemany Market not so far from here, I’m not sure I’ll be coming back to it, even though it’s closer to me.
It’s not that the produce isn’t quality, it’s just that the selection isn’t that great. There are no vegetables for Asian cooking (I NEED BOK CHOI), which I found pretty shocking. And since there aren’t that many vendors, the prices end up being pretty high. It doesn’t seem like it at first, but by the time I leave I’ve spent 10 – 15 dollars more than I usually do at other markets. You could probably do pretty well shopping with a friend to get the 3 bunches of kale for x dollars type of deals, but other than that, I think you’re getting ripped off a bit.
The Alemany market has much more variety, and is significantly cheaper for most things, sometimes half the cost!

Love, love this Farmers Market. It has become my favorite! It is close to where I live in Bernal Heights so can walk there. What a great surprise when I happened to be going to Canyon Market one Sunday & found the Farmers Market had finally opened. It had taken awhile. Great selection of produce, pastries from nearby Destination Bakery, & prepared foods, plus the fish market is excellent. It’s a plus due to the size, small, compact. Very clean. Fresh, nice looking products. Good displays, nice signs of prices. All the vendors are very friendly & welcoming. They gladly tell you about their products. Convenient to get to. On many bus lines; & BART is right across the street. Definitely an asset to the neighbhorhood.

I’m new in the hood and this was a nice surprise.

It does seem a bit pricey, but while taking advantage of the free samples you come to realize that most of the merchandise is quality. I’m more likely to pick up one or two treats, not stock up the whole kitchen. Pretty stoked just to have a farmers market that I can walk to.
Got a basket of strawberries that were reminiscent of the ones we’d get from the Amish in PA as a kid — aka tasted like a strawberry, not a giant watered down version of a strawberry.
Would definitely recommend the nut guy. Picked up trail mix and it’s incredible, the raisins are enormous and awesome.

Love this market! I frequented every week. I wish they would always have flowers. But the other offerings meet my needs.
Please, please go to year round. They have a FB page and I love that the vendors would remember me and point out the specials or fruits/​veggies that were their favorites that week. GREAT to have a farmers market in the neighborhood. And I love that it doesn’t cater to folks who need to drive/​park … that’s kind of the whole point of local and neighborhood. Sunday is my favorite day of the week thanks to this market!

First off, any local farmer’s market is better than NO local farmer’s market. This is a great option if you live in the neighborhood or very close by, for anyone else it isn’t really worth it. The farmer’s market is really small, only about 8 – 10 tents and there isn’t a whole lot of variety there. Also parking can be a bit rough if you don’t know the area and don’t know where to look. At the market you have 3 – 4 people selling produce… which is pretty good at good prices. There are a few stands selling crafts, one selling different goat cheeses and my favorite being the italian stand which sells some great dips, sauces and pastas. In particular the spinach dip and spicy garlic dips are amazing and I get them every single time.

My heart still belongs to Alemany, but this is a great neighborhood alternative for Sunday morning. There’s only a few stalls, but they usually have the good quality produce, meats, sauces and baked goods. The prices are a little higher than Alemany, but they are still reasonable.

It’s a local farmers market on Sundays, small (only about 10 vendors) but has everything you need. The fresh sourdough bread was 50¢ more but lasted for 5 days, the basil I bought was 25¢ more and after I placed it in my kitchen in a glass of water it sprouted roots & I have had basil for almost 4 weeks. I love this farmers market! Pricier but good quality, open on Sundays & never crowded. Parking is sucky so take BART.

This is held in the parking lot, so you’d have to find parking up the street on bosworth/o’shaunessy and walk down.
It’s nice that they want to put a farmers market here in this neighborhood. BUT its too expensive. Really it is.
Why come here if you can get the same quality at a market around the corner for the same price? You need the market to stay because they have been a staples for a few years (because the original place burned down). You also want to support your neighborhood market because they’re good people too.
I just don’t see the point of putting a farmer’s market here at all if you can go fairly nearby down to the MAIN one on Saturday. Don’t know what i’m talking about? Then you don’t really understand the Original Farmers Market and what its about.
Come here if you want to support the new farmers market… its just that it actually takes away from the neighborhood stores more than helps it.

I’m so happy to see a farmer’s market open on a Sunday! They have a good selection vegetables, fruit, seafood, and prepared food items. Some of the vendors offer certified organic produce — the peaches, plums and strawberries are so sweet and juicy! I don’t think I’ve eaten this much fruit in my entire life! Why bother with candy when nature’s candy is right in front of you!
I’ve become a fan of the Destination Baking Company — they offer croissants, galettes, flatbreads and a variety of breads. The food is delivered fresh out of the oven (the bakery is located nearby) and the selection changes weekly. Nothing is better than taking that first bite of one of their warm, flaky, buttery baked items.
Overall, the prices are pretty reasonable and I’ve found the produce to be of high quality.
I hope that going forward they are able to have more vendors offering a greater variety of products.
Welcome to the neighborhood!

We normally head to the Saturday Alemany Farmers’ market, but I went to this one last Sunday. It’s wonderful to have another option that’s closer to home on a Sunday. The prices were a little higher than Alemany ($ 4 a basket for organic strawberries rather than $ 3), but I expected that due to the «boutique» nature of this market. The quality of the items was farmers’ market caliber (good to great) and the stall employees were helpful, professional, and friendly. This is nice if you’re also looking to educate yourself about local produce. When I go to Alemany, the friendly employees aren’t able to provide me with tips about how to prepare something I’m buying for the first time because of language issues.
Pro’s:
A local farmers’ market option on Sunday
Produce prices still lower than local grocery stores
Access to other local merchants (Destination Bakery) in one place
Merchants who can educate you on their produce and how to store it, prepare it, etc.
Con’s
Higher prices than other farmers’ markets in the area
Small venue means less selection than Alemany or Ferry Building markets

Fantastic addition to Glen Park Village. The vendors are all friendly and the produce is beautiful.

As Reviewer # 2 mentioned, this is a very small market, with very little options and some ridiculous prices for some items… $ 4 for a 4oz bag of mushrooms (and we’re not talking anything fancy here)? $ 4.50 for a samosa? They have an entire booth dedicated to musicians, olives, one type of cheese… but there didn’t seem to be many options when it came to actual produce, which is what I came for.
I was able to find some freshly picked cabbage, califlower, leeks, and kale, for a grand total of $ 8, which is a bargain… but for now, until they update their selection of actual produce, I’ll be sticking with other options in the city…
For groceries in this neighborhood, your only other option is the exorbitantly-​priced Canyon Market around the corner… so this place might seem like a great alternative. IF you have no other choice.

The small farmers market that could featured a ribbon cutting by Mayor Ed Lee. I hope that they will expand to make full use of the whole lot. Prices were about what I expected, fitting in somewhere between the Alemany market that caters to the every day person, and the ridiculous prices at the Ferry bldg. I want to see more produce than specialties in a market with such limited real estate. Maybe if the soaps, cute pie pops and Italian spreads were in smaller booths, there would be more room for more fruit, eggs and other vegetables. And for all of you people who insist on bringing in those high tech oversized baby strollers… don’t.
