«One of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I’ve ever had!» Needless to say, that’s a fairly hefty statement to make… yet it’s no less true! Now, how Grilled Cheez Guy hasn’t gotten more publicity/reviews is beyond me. I mean, it’s not like they’re slinging out those(gross) Kraft grilled cheese sandwiches people! These babies are huge, cheesy, and, most importantly, DELICIOUS! After doing a quick lap to check out Presidio Picnic’s offerings, we knew we had to go back to the Grilled Cheez Guy stand when we saw person after person clutching onto their sandwiches. Although there were only three different types available(Classic, Ham & Cheezy, Pastrami), they all sounded terrific. Good thing my friend was down to split a couple! – HAM&CHEEZY — Ham, Muenster, Cheddar, Horseradish Sour Cream…$ 11 ( ) Even though it tasted light on the muenster(it was cheesy, just cheddar heavy), they certainly didn’t skimp on the ham. It may not sound like much, but those four or five slices gave this a very meaty feel. While the mix of flavors was very solid(and classic), that side of horseradish sour cream was perfect to help cut the sandwich’s overall richness. – PASTRAMI — SF Pastrami, Swiss, Arugula, Pickled Red Onion…$ 11 ( ) As good as the Ham & Cheezy was, this was the star. Not only was it even meatier, but it was just as cheesy and tasted even better. The pastrami was both juicy and flavorful, and I liked the balance the arugula and pickled red onions added. If this also had the same horseradish sour cream, it would’ve been perfect! While both sandwiches were obviously delicious, the bread they use is what really puts them over the top. Unfortunately, I’m not sure what type they use(looks like ACME though). However, on the outside, the crust on both was buttery(yet not too greasy) and had the ideal crunchiness to them. On the inside, the bread was pretty soft and moist(which the cheese probably had something to do with). Besides how awesome these sandwiches are, the one thing I’d point out is how the hours listed on their Unilocal page aren’t very accurate(it only lists Sundays). Instead, check out their Twitter to find out where they’ll be and when(even their website is outdated). Besides that, I have nothing bad to say about them. Well, except that now, all future grilled cheese sandwiches I try will be measured against a relatively high bar. Seriously, liked I said… Grilled Cheez Guy really does make one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I’ve ever had!

Had the most delish grilled cheese sandwiches at the Unilocal Spring Fling at the Oakland Museum yesterday. Clearly it had the longest line. Had several combos: Classic ham and cheese, ham, cheese and basil, pickled onions, etc.

The Grilled Cheez Guy aka Michael, was the easiest vendor I have ever worked with. I called on a Monday for a Tuesday event, he called me back within the hour and our grilled cheez gluttony was confirmed. The day of he used square to swipe my my card(he even accepts amex!) It was almost too easy. Now, the grilled cheese was absolutely divine. Michael sources all of his products locally or in small batch. Acme bread, Berkeley bowl produce, cheese and mustard from Concord. It was gooey and delicious and worth a drive to Alameda or a visit to the Presidio to devour. In addition to the outstanding service and most delicious sandwiches, Michael was fun and engaging telling jokes and explaining the products to everyone. Our experience with the Grilled Cheez Guy was an absolute win and I would highly recommend him for any occasion or event.

Saw this outfit at «Off the Grid» last Friday and tried his toasted, peanut butter and jalapeño jelly sandwich. Absolutely FANTASTIC!!! We’re going to get this every time we leave«Off the Grid» for the ride home.

Delicious, awesome bread sliced wide with lots of melted cheese inside. The sandwiches look beautiful and big with they way they cut the bread. Loved the classic. The one with roast beef isnt bad, just not a fan of the blue cheese dressing(can get it on the side).

While visiting San Francisco my friends took us to Faction Brewing where she told us they also had the Grilled Cheez Guy’s sitting outside w/the best grilled cheese sandwiches around! I was super excited, I’ve always loved grilled cheeses! We decided to go enjoy a few beers then go get a grilled cheese. Unfortunately, when we went out there, they had JUST sold out :(We were very disappointed but what can you do, things happen. Finishing up our friendly conversation with the gentleman we began to walk away when the other employee insisted we enjoy the sandwiches she had made for herself. Talk about great customer service! We offered to pay for the sandwiches but they didn’t allow it. They were super friendly and the sandwiches were out of this world. One of the sandwiches had basil and the other had bacon! I honestly don’t know exactly what they were but I do know that with their great customer service and amazing food this place is a MUST have!

The best grilled cheese ever!!! The ingredients are as fresh as it gets and the cheese is melted perfectly! I got the original with arugula and heirloom tomatoes and topped it off with the habanero jelly, it’s to die for. The portions are pretty big but you’ll definitely enjoy every bite.

The grilled cheese guy us a genius. Every ingredient is local and fresh. This guy puts thought into everything from the bread to the butter. Who would have thought you could make such a gourmet grilled cheese?! Definitely try the habanero jelly spread and if you like spice, try the kimchi spread. It’s all to die for!

Yummy grilled cheese, superior serving size and the use of Acme Bread make this place a winner. We tried the #1 which is a two cheese blend and is very yummy. The bread is perfectly toasted, crispy and not soft or soggy at all. Then we had the #5 which is pepper-jack, sliced jalapeños and two other cheeses. This one was also yummy and the peppers added a nice(mild) kick but I actually enjoyed the #1 better. The number 1 had a lovely blend of flavors that although mild, are noticeable and enjoyable on my palate. The service was fast, they arrived sooner than I expected, they looked great and were laid out very nicely tiered on the plate(I like this because the bottoms don’t get soggy this way. I intend on eating my way though their menu but for the moment #1 is my favorite.

They were one of the longer lines at Off the Grid Presidio and I have this weird thing about if the line is long, it must be good if so many people are lining up for it. I decided to give it a chance as well and got the Frenchie grilled cheese with carmelized onions and greyuere. The bread was grilled nice and crispy, but it kind of overpowered the cheese, which was really good when I pulled the bread apart. I also got bacon for protein and it was really good. The bacon was cooked to a good crisp and it was tender and not too salty. Overall, it was a good sandwich but I wish there was either more cheese or less bread.

Grilled cheese is delicious. Done right, it’s buttery, crunchy bread filled with ooey gooey cheesyliciousness(now a word). For $ 10, I expected to bite into the *most* amazing, the *most* crunchy, the *most* ooey gooey cheesyliciousness of all time. Unfortunately, the«classic» grilled cheese disappointed. To its creator’s credit, it’s served on Acme levain bread, which is beloved in the Bay Area, and more than one type of cheese — cheddar, mozzarella, gruyère. Plus, you can add basil, bacon, and various condiments like sriracha. But a good grilled cheese should stand alone without any fancy dressings. The people who work here are SUPER nice, and grilled cheese always has potential, so I’ll definitely go back to try another sandwich… maybe the Frenchie? No bricks used here, just a panini maker, but as long as it’s delicious I don’t care how its pressed!

Came to the popup in Hayes with a friend of mine on a random weekday afternoon. We walked right in without waiting. We were greeted by the owner and ordered the classic with tomato soup. It was delicious, definitely hit the spot! The owner and his staff were super sweet and friendly, kinda felt like we got the royal treatment but then again they seem to be slow that afternoon. Wish they were still at their popup in Hayes, I’m craving some grilled cheese from the Grilled Cheez Guy!

1 star for coordination /service /efficiency /knowing what’s going on. My experiences are that they are generally overwhelmed and can’t meet customer demand. 4 stars for the food! Delicious. They use acme bread and have delicious combos of cheeses. The add-one are also nice. Personally, I won’t be waiting in line again for these sandwiches.

Amazing grilled cheese sandwich! Was so worth the 20min wait at Unilocal’s SF Hornblower event today. Perfect blend of cheeses, nice use of Acme bread, great call on the tomato and basil fillings, and the balsamic vinaigrette was the«icing» to the sandwich. Can’t wait to frequent the pop-up & try their other types of grilled cheeses!

Had me some grilled cheez at the Rickshaw Stop for some event. They said they ran out, and then 20 minutes later they weren’t sold out, and was pretty excited to fork over my monies for the cheez. I got the Classic and it was just okay. Not bad, and thankfully they have good bread and sriracha to save their butts, but overall they just need more flavor. The cheese was placed somewhat unevenly and all of them had fairly mild flavors. The bread itself could have been grilled up a little crispier, and a little bit of salt(and a little more butter) could go a long way. At $ 8 for a mediocre grilled cheese sandwich they at least give a pretty large portion, however at $ 8 I could also make myself a very decadent and more delicious version of this.

I biked past Grilled Cheez Guy during a rain storm two weeks ago. Tempted by the promise of warming up with hot tomato soup and grilled cheese, I ducked inside. I needed to get on my way to a meeting, so I asked if my to-go order could be packed well to survive a bike ride to SoMA. After they wrapped my soup with enough plastic wrap to repair Apollo 13, I was on my way. The soup was perfect. The sandwich was warm and melty. I was no longer cold and wet. I was warm and happy and full of gooey cheese, which is the best substance on the face of the earth. You should eat here.

The only way this could be better is to be hungrier. Perfectly browned crispy levain, cheese to die for, and guys that love what they’re doing.

I got to try this guy’s creations again at a Unilocal Elite event on the Hornblower Sunset Cruise. Of course, a very long line, but worth it! * The Sizzling Summer Sammy(sharp yellow cheddar, maple bacon, pickled jalapeño, sambol organic tomato jam) — 4 stars A bit more greasy than before, but amazing crisp to the bread and wonderful flavors and textures. This guy knows his stuff!
