Got a tasty prosciutto sandwich here. The fat on it was a little tough though. Take out — no seating.

Old school butcher shop between West Portal and Inner Sunset. I’ve been eyeing this place for months and finally got to try their deli counter. They have a good assortment of sandwiches with assorted salumi. I got their prosciutto sandwich which was absolutely to die for and it had pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, mayo, and mustard. Added a slice of havarti cheese for a little extra. Will definitely be coming back to check out the rest of their sandwiches as well as the actual butcher shop. They also have gelato(not in house. Can’t remember where it’s from) as well as various cheeses, olives, and a small section of groceries.

Amazing! 5 star service and 5 star food! Got a delicious turkey pesto sandwich for lunch and was floored by the quality of the bread, cheese, and meat here. It’s a small store but it pretty much had all of your picnic needs and fresh fish and quality meats. Love love love!

Yummy my boyfriend and I picked up two sandwiches here to take them to the beach and we both loved ours! He got a roast beef sandwich and I got the chicken salad sandwich. So flavorful and delicious. Happy that we finally went to this place after driving by it so many times. The quality of meat is really good! More than happy to come back!

Just got a château steak from Matt and he’s the man. He gave us a quick run down on how to cook it. This is the best place to get meat in San Francisco. Thanks, Matt!

It is super hard to find veal heart sometimes, Guerra had the heart for 2.99 lb for about half a heart. The quality of the meat was excellent and my Anticuchos turned out great! Will go again!

Curiously, I went here for the first time recently. After 40 years in the neighborhood, I decided it was time to see why all of West Portal and St Francis Wood is inside buying stuff for dinner. Very nicely prepared salads. Fine organic roasted chickens and a nightly family dinner ready to serve. The finest specialty foods, butcher shop and helpful counterpeople crammed into a small Taraval St store. I’ll be back to try more prepared foods.

The food quality is fantastic. The service is consistently good. They have readymade options for easy meals and the raw ingredients to fuel the production of your own feast. This is easily one of my favorite stores in San Francisco.

Great sandos. Check to see what the special of the day is, they all look good. I haven’t tried any, but intend to come back. I had the Toscano on Dutch crunch. This was probably the best loaf of Dutch crunch I’ve ever had. Fresh, crunchy, soft in the middle. The insides weren’t bad either!

Used to love going here, understand the great reviews, but got ripped off the last two times I went, have been boycotting the place ever since. I purchased 4 lbs of beef at 6.99/lb and was told that since they have to cut it for me, it would cost 13.99/lb. Thought it was weird because I’ve been buying the same thing for a couple of years and was never charged for this. In their defense, I ask them to slice it really thin(for hot) pot so I understand and would gladly pay more but not double the price for 5 minutes of work. My 28.00 check turned into a 56.00 check. Not going back.

Absolutely amazing. They have a great selections of meats, poultry and seafood. They also carry dishes you can purchase by the pound– some Italian, others more standard lunch options. As you walk in, you’re greeted by their great selection of locally made breads, such as Acme. On the right wall you’ll see a small, but great selection of grocery items, as well as canned goods. The best part of all was the service. By far the best meat shop in the city and the in-laws loved the spicy Italian sausage. Great place to stop by for a quick meal or last minute items like I did the day before Thanksgiving!

I was more impressed with the service here than I was with the sandwiches. Don’t get me wrong, the sandwiches were great, too. But the service was top notch. My colleagues and I were catering a networking event for our office. One of my colleagues insisted that he’d placed an online order here and that everything had gone through. But when I showed up to pick up the order, no dice. The staff here were very apologetic, insisting that their online ordering system is a little glitchy and that it was their fault(whereas I think the fault was possibly on our end). They leapt into action, making something like 17 sandwiches in no time at all, with very much a «customer is always right» attitude. Mark even helped me carry the sandwiches out to my car down the block. The food was fresh and tasty, too, and everyone at the event enjoyed their sandwich, including me. But I also enjoyed the way they took care of me as a customer. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back here because of that.

This shop did not allow a service dog in their business. Wrong. «Under the ADA, State and local governments, businesses, and nonprofit organizations that serve the public generally must allow service animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas of the facility where the public is normally allowed to go. For example, in a hospital it would be inappropriate to exclude a service animal from areas such as patient rooms, clinics, cafeterias, or examination rooms. However, it may be appropriate to exclude a service animal from operating rooms or burn units where the animal’s presence may compromise a sterile environment.» — U. S Department of Justice( ). Aside from that, the shop has a good variety of meats and the sandwiches are good. They seem like good butchers. The quality of the meats is good. It is unfortunate, they do not respect the rights of people that need require a service animal.

Guerra just looks gourmet on that corner block of 15th and Taraval. It’s a tiny grocer with all the novelty goodies inside in addition to the extensive selection of bourgeois meats. One of my projects were in the area, and I made it a point to satiate my sandwich cravings here when possible. I had the Roma which is a turkey pesto sandwich one day and fell in love. It comes with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, mustard(not for me) and your choice of bread. Another day, I wanted to branch out and try the chicken salad sandwich, but they ran out. So I never got to try that sandwich but no worries, back to the Roma. It was a good day! I’ll make a point to grab some sandwiches here if I’m in the area again!

So! Who doesn’t have days when we just can’t cope in the kitchen? It happens, even to me. There are those days, you know them — its when you can’t manage more than to open a bottle of wine(you are in even more luck, the SF Wine Trading Co is 2 blocks away!) that I call Guerra’s and reserve one of their rotisserie chickens. They roast Mary’s chickens to perfection. They are juicy. They are NEVER dry! EVER! They are not salty. There are no strange sauces…just chicken and a light salt/pepper seasoning and you get succulent goodness without doing more than driving over there and back. And parking is fairly easy. You’ll want to call them first. They sell out quickly especially on the weekend or at the dinner hour. They’ll hold one for you. They’ll also tell you when more will be ready. You can also get a half chicken. Other markets in town have them, but these are the best, so if Taraval is a bit far for you, go anyway. You will thank me. Since 95% of my meat comes from grass fed ranchers who I know personally I can’t fairly say anything about their meat, but I know that people love this shop.

So my mom goes to get some scallops here and spend 48. bucks for a family of 4. It’s for my special dinner for the 5th of July birthday. So, I bite into one and my mouth burns and I smell a strong odor of ammonia. My mom is arguing that these are fresh and there’s nothing wrong with them. Was she wrong, we couldn’t finish the food but I ate the most to make her happy and was sick all day Monday. Come to find out, since this has never happened to me, that they were going bad. The entire house stunk after 12 hours. I’m not sure how such a high end shop could sell spoiled seafood but it was the worst dinner I have ever had and it ruined out party. I will never buy here and make sure you tell you friends not to buy seafood here.

This place is a fantastic neighborhood staple. It’s a deli /butcher with a tiny corner dedicated to organic produce and eggs. They also have a few shelves dedicated to pantry items like beautiful Italian pastas, olive oils, crackers and cookies. But that’s not why you go here: you go here for the meats! They usually have about 10 – 12 people working the counters(seriously!) so I’ve never waited longer than 10 seconds before someone asks how they can help me – even when it’s super crowded. Everyone is super knowledgeable so it’s fun to ask for their recommendations. We have gotten their T-bone a few times which is our favorite. I swear, you could cook that thing until it was gray and it would still taste unbelievable(we cook it Medium Rare, of course, but you know what I mean ;) All their meats are antibiotic free and free range. They do great marinades and we’ve gotten the Korean short ribs marinated in apricot and the teriyaki chicken thighs. Their pork chops are incredible, too. Basically, any meats you get there will be beautiful and excellently butchered. I have yet to get a sandwich or cold cuts, but there’s always a long line and their cold salads and antipastos look fantastic. They also have a freezer with homemade stocks and ready made meals like lasagna for you to take home and bake. It’s unlikely you’ll leave without paying a good chunk of money, but IMO it’s not only worth it to support great, local businesses like this but also the farms that they buy from that are raising animals and produce sustainably and organically.

I refuse to get meats anywhere else. So far I’ve only tried their short ribs and chicken fajitas and I’m hooked. I didn’t have very high hopes for the chicken since it didn’t look very well seasoned but it was flavorful without being overly salted. I’ve never had such amazing short ribs either. The guy said it was going to be tender and I was still surprised when I bit into it. I didn’t enjoy the toscano sandwich as much but I liked their sourdough. The sandwich as a whole was saltier than I’m used to so I think I’ll stick with my regular place for that.

Came here on a weekend for prosciutto. They don’t have prosciutto. They have prosciutto… di parma. I automatically ask for a pound. The guy helping me scrutinizes the case, gives the end piece on hand a sad look, and says he’ll open a new one for me. He does this in front of me, and test slices the meat to get the goods as thin as possible, per my request. A few minutes and about $ 22 later, I’m walking out into the sunshine with bougie looking packages holding primo gold. No complaints, I’ll be back to let you guys take my money!

With 4.5 stars, the storefront of a well-established local favorite, and tucked away in the cozy Parkside neighborhood, I came with expectations. I got one of the specialty turkey sandwiches for lunch(can’t remember if it was the Milano or Roma… shows how unmemorable it was). It was alright: the first few bites were pretty satisfying because I was hungry and the meat quality is good, but after the initial excitement it started tasting like a standard cafeteria sandwich. By the time I got to the end of the sandwich in which it was cold and a bit soggy, I was paradoxically hungry – while filling, it wasn’t particularly satisfying. Everything else was good: service with smiles, prompt attention, and my made-to-order sandwich ready in a reasonable time, as well as the ambiance of a beloved neighborhood store. Conclusion: In my opinion, the deli sandwiches are definitely not worth it, at a total of $ 9 when I can get an omnomnomalicious banh mi for less than $ 4 at Banhwich down the street. I also looked around the store a little while waiting for my sandwich, in search of a snack. While there were some tempting treats, I didn’t get anything because everything was pricey(even when taking into account the fancy Europeanness) and rather short-dated. Maybe the meat and groceries are better. I’ll leave this one up to grown-ups who actually do legit grocery shopping to set the verdict on this one, but my experience hasn’t been too student-friendly in terms of to-go food, snacks, and price.
