Heath Ceramics

I love Heath Ceramics and the quality/​designs of their products are just incredible. This store location is only the pop up/​stall store location and the main store can be located in the Mission District. I was window shopping at the ferry market for the farmers market and decided to take a quick pick at some of the dish selections and table ware. I ended up leaving with a white serving tray at the end.
I believe Heath Ceramics is offering a 10% off their bundle packages which sounds like a great deal. Generally, the bundle sets already save one some money, but an extra 10% couldn’t hurt anyone. The store employees here are welcoming and are more than happy to help you with your needs.

There is something very special about Heath ceramics. I like good and nice china like Villeroy Bosch, etc., but Heath has a beauty of simplicity and earthiness that is fantastic. You just want to have it around.

I love ceramics. I’ve collected them for years and take pleasure in investing in beautiful pieces to use in my kitchen and home. When it comes to buying a travel souvenir they’re one of my favourite things to purchase as I’m able to enjoy the memories of the trip each and every time I use the cup/​bowl/​plate.
The ceramics at Heath are lovely. They’re robust and practical for every day use, but still have beautiful lines and colours that make you feel special when using them. I bought two mugs a year ago and they’ve quickly become favourites in my home back in Australia. On my most recent trip to San Francisco I decided another two were the only thing I most wanted to purchase, and I paid a visit to the Ferry Building store one day to quickly pick some up. They’ve now found a home in our kitchen and bring great pleasure, despite was a hefty price tag (the Aussie dollar doesn’t go far in the US these days!)
This store isn’t as extensive as the one in the Mission, but it’s no less lovely. If you’re only in the market for one or two things then it’s perfectly fine, though I’d head to the other store if you wanted more options and needed to put together a full dinner setting.

This outpost inside the Ferry Building is great for general gift and housewarming shopping, and usually displays pieces from the newest line. It’s extremely small, think more of a stall than a store, and navigating it can be tough when the there are throngs of people in the building, which is on most days. For a true Heath Experience, I recommend visiting the factory in Sausalito, which is quite large and offers discounted items and factory seconds.

The quality and design of the products are top notch. However, the customer service at this particular location is highly lacking. I’ve passed through this store several times and have never been greeted or asked if I need any help. In fact, the workers never even make eye contact with me. There’s a certain snobbery I find in their eyes whenever I take a look at the products. It’s such a shame that the customer service is not the same quality at the actual product itself.
Do yourself a favor and head to the store in the North Bay or Potrero.

High price does not mean high quality or even good service!
Bought some mugs here that cracked with hot water (tea). Staff here «could not do anything» but gave a lecture on the delicacy of stoneware after scrutinizing the mug like they were scientists and pointing out flaws in the glazing that existed the day we got the mug. Just an unpleasant experience all around.
(And yes, I think a mug should be able to take hot water.)

Pricey but beautiful ceramics. Their new store in Dogpatch is a feast for the eyes! I think one collection of plates is in collaboration with Alice Waters.

If you’ve come down to the Ferry Building and are leaving without making a purchase from Heath Ceramics you are missing something. I repeat, you are missing something! Head straight back in so you can check them out. Their selection of ceramics and glassware are amazing! Besides all the awesome food options here, this has got to be my favorite merchant at the Marketplace. I can’t wait to visit their Sausalito factory!

Cute little shop in the Ferry Building! They sell lots of imported ceramics and glassware. We got about 9 different glass jars made in Germany. It had a glass lid, rubber insulation, and metal clasps locking it down. They were pretty inexpensive! I should buy some more!

And you thought that the china tableware you were checking out at the Macy’s bridal registry were expensive?
I’m an old hippie, a real one from the 1960’s. I appreciate hand crafted well-​made articles by gifted artists whether it’s dishes or guitars or wine.
But $ 800 for an earthy /​organic looking ceramic table setting for 4? A little outt’a my price range.

Love their ceramic bowls, plates, cups, vases, etc. They’re so well-​made and have a great selection of earth tones and a classy baby blue. There is also a nice collection of linens, utensils, and accessories to compliment any of their ceramic items. I also enjoyed perusing their assortment of books.
I also noticed that they have a Chez Panisse Dinner Set that has a nice glossy finish to them. So classy…

This is newest location for Heath is a cozy little shop that showcases nearly all their dinnerware and giftware (bud vases, bowls and such). Heath Ceramics has a really great clean and modern design to everything they make. It’s rustic but still contemporary.
Besides carrying their own ceramics they have some textiles (napkins, place mats and kitchen towels), a charming line of what looks like pickling jars by Weck and an assortment of books.
I always admired their look and maybe one day I’ll be ready to commit (and able to afford it) to a whole set of plates from Heath. Till then I’ll buy a random piece here and there, slowly collecting.
By the way, the studio in Sausalito is the only place where you can get «seconds», pieces that have small flaws in their color or shapes.

As if I need another reason to love the Ferry Building! This cult Sausalito company’s first-​ever SF retail location is officially open for business!
