Bad bad customer service! Food was good but our table was overcharged. We asked for an itemized bill, in english, and he started yelling our order at us. Then a woman came out and told us «pay the bill, just split it» Then we pulled out the menu and started writing everything out and the price, that’s when they really got mad and started saying that we needed to wash dishes. We added up our order, included tax and tip and came up $ 30 less than what our bill came out to. The waiter then tells us that we forgot to add $ 1.25 per person for the side of rice that we thought was included because no one ordered a side of rice. So embarrassing!

We had a fantastic lunch here. The restaurant is clean and the service very attentive. We ate Hunan spare ribs which came chopped into ti lets and had a black bean sauce with onion and peppers. Best ribs !! So good. The combo chow mein rounded out the meal. We will be back’

This place is pretty decent. It has a nice décor, service is fast, most of the food is pretty good. We got the eggplant, kung pao beef, Henry’s special, and some cold noodles. Pretty much everything was good except the eggplant, so don’t get that I suppose. In short it was a good place to get a meal and I would come again.

Every once in a while I feel adventurous & decide to order from a different Chinese restaurant. And every time after I’ve done this, I always go back to Henry’s. Here are all the reasons why… Their spicy curry chow mein. I do it w pork. No joke about the spicy. It’s fantastic. Their fried rice is the most un-fried rice I’ve ever had. Light & fluffy. Zero grease. Though, depending on your preference, that could be a good or a bad thing. I wish they did a barbecue pork fried rice instead of their version, which is w diced thin ham, but it’s not a big deal. Diana’s meat pie. This is a dish that was introduced to me here. I’d like to personally thank Diana. I have no idea who she is, but I just love her meat pie. The beef filling is rich, tender, & über flavorful. The crust is tender & flaky; the perfect encasement. When this puppy is piping hot, it hits the peak levels of deliciousness. Something to be devoured, not merely eaten. Honorable mention goes to the sweet & sour chicken, & the chicken salad. Props for the food always being fresh, & delivery always being on time. There are 7 Henry’s in the city. Each one is run by a family member. Nice. 4 stars.

This quickly became one of my go-to Chinese food spots anytime I visit SF. The food is easily 5 stars, as everything I’ve tried has been fresh, authentic, and delicious. It’s a somewhat small place with about 12 tables, but it’s extremely clean and has a simple, modern atmosphere. They start you off with tea, which is a rarity these days unless you’re getting dim sum. We always order the hot & sour soup, which is hands down the best I’ve ever had. We’ve tried the Kung Pao chicken, Mongolian beef, stir fry string beans(really good), and the garlic chicken. I try to get something different every time I go, since I have yet to be disappointed by anything. The only reason I didn’t bump to 5 stars is because the service is hit or miss. The first time we came, it was just OK, but it was pretty busy. The second time, it was excellent and super quick and this last time was pretty slow, and there was no crowd. Their prices are definitely inexpensive for the area, and again, it’s cleaner than most of the places we’ve tried in Chinatown so we’ll continue to come whenever we’re in town.

Wife and I had the beef pie appetizer which was very good. Also shared the garlic chicken and veggie chow mein. We had leftovers. Didn’t break the bank. Nice restaurant, nice staff. Would definitely recommend to friends and family when visiting Chinatown :)

Henry’s special: Seafood(prawns & scallops) with chicken in a spicy hunan sauce — This was pretty awesome. It reminded me of being back in mainland China. I asked for spicy, and while I definitely tasted a little heat in there I think they held back on the spice for me — I’m used to eating super hot Hunan dishes. Prawn chow mein: Sadly this was really bland. I’m a harsh noodle critic(I can’t believe these are actual words that I am saying), and was sadly let down by this dish. It was just lacking flavor. It had a nice«wok flame» taste, but lacked the umami-type flavor I was looking for. That said, prices were good and service was(mostly) good, although it was hard to get the attention of our waiter at times. FWIW, they were quite busy.

Below average food(tried three different dishes-chicken, seafood, and rice) and they didn’t bring out the dumplings that we had ordered as an appetizer. We were still charged for the dumplings and had to have the waitress change our bill-no apology or comp provided. I see why its busy(on Grant = drunk bar food) but I wouldn’t return again and would probably satisfy any food craving with the amazing italian in the area, or walk a few blocks to Chinatown.

My new lunch time spot working out here in the North Beach area. I’ve only had their fried rice and I look forward to eating everything else on the menu. Fried rice is usually my goto dish for a new place. If you mess up fried rice then your other dishes must be cr@p. Not here at Henry’s though, unlike a place down the street whose fried rice was super oily. The staff here is pleasant, attentive and accommodating. The prices are very reasonable given the area. Looking forward to eating here as long as I’m working in the area.

Really good & very accommodating! We had a 4 month old & needed our lunch to be quick & not spicy for nursing Mom. They did both & the food was so delicious, even without the spice. Would highly recommend!

Perfect end to an evening in Chinatown. Wonderful food and calming atmosphere. The food was a bit more Chinese-American than other places. There were many authentic Chinese joints in Chinatown but we were not brave enough to try them. We ordered the chicken salad, Hunan beef, and sweet-and-sour chicken. We were very happy with all of them.

We didn’t realize this was a chain until we went to the wrong one before we went to this location, but it was delicious. Since we had not really eaten all day, we were starving and ordered a bottle of wine, egg rolls, dumplings, chow mien, orange chicken, many Kung po chicken for three people! The bill came at about $ 70 which wasn’t terrible because the bottle of wine was $ 30. The only weird thing is each dish came out one by one. First egg rolls, the dumplings, then orange chicken, mother chow mien, then finally the Kung po. Either way the food was delicious!

Great ambiance. Food is slightly above average for the area. However the chef needs to hold on the salt. Fried rice doesn’t need salt. I had the Mongolian beef and it was relatively well seasoned. Again salt was the main issue though. Outside of this, the service was excellent and I really appreciate the décor. The chicken chow mein did not get the salt treatment so I can recommend this. Yes I would eat here again. PS. Not certain which restaurant the 1 star fellow was commenting on but this place is incredibly clean.

After wandering around North Beach a bit and being disappointed that several of our favourite restaurants were closed at the time, I noticed Henry’s Hunan right nearby and suggested we check it out, as I’d never been there before and my partner hadn’t tried this particular location. We were both excited to have Chinese food and we were seated and our order taken promptly. My partner ordered the chicken and string beans, a standard dish that’s one of his favourites, and a good way of comparing some of our other preferred Chinese restaurants to here. I picked out the hot and sour vegetables and we also ordered a plate of white rice, plus a glass of wine and a beer. We didn’t have to wait too long before our meal came out(although separately, with about 2 minutes between each plate but whatever). I was a bit surprised that the hot and sour vegetables came in a pale sauce, I was expecting something reddish or orange at least but no matter, I piled rice on my plate and a few spoonfuls of veggies and dove in. The heat of this dish was intense, far spicier than I’m used to, but the sweetness of the bamboo shoots and the glass of wine plus the plainness of the rice helped dull it a bit. It was delicious and I ate about half easily. The rest I took home for later since it was that good, I didn’t want to let it go to waste. My partner noticed the chicken and string beans came with a chili black bean sauce, one of his favourite sauces. He thought his dish was amazing and ate every last bit of it. Service was a tad slow but there seemed to be a large family gathering in the central table, we’re talking 20+ people, so I can forgive them for it. Because of the layout of the restaurant, the noise of the large party was practically deafening, so be warned that this place can get pretty loud if there’s a lot of people in it. Overall though, we’d happily return here, there were quite a few things on the menu that looked delicious and I would love to try more.

Saturday afternoon. Two other tables inside. Ridiculously slow service and because of what looked like a dinner between all the staff at one table. Reason for 3 stars instead of 4. The dumplings were amazing. My friend doesn’t eat pork, I don’t think he noticed. Lol. We scarfed them down. They were delish. Beef and string beans is good but very MSG tasting. The beef is so tenderized it falls apart on the dish. Slightly off putting but has nice flavor. Kung pao chicken was great. Chicken seemed to be of great quality. Overall I think the place was great. It got a lot of good reviews considering the real Chinatown is up the block.

Very clean and cute place in a tourist-y area. The décor is modern and spacious — it might be small but doesn’t give you like this ghetto hole-in-the-wall vibe. It’s near a whole bunch of hotels — I met with a friend here for a work trip who was staying in the nearby Holiday Inn. Service is fairly fast but they don’t rush you to be done like a lot of Asian places. A few things to recommend: 1) the meat pie — interesting dish lol. 2 fried pies(like Taiwanese scallion pie but without the scallion) with zesty ground beef and lettuce in between. 4 big pieces. 2) chicken chow mein — not too salty or greasy. Very good. Go ahead and get it spicy — it’s not overwhelming. 3) kung pao chicken — authentic, not Panda Express style. Very good — not too saucy and the serving size was pretty decent. With rice, fed two people. We got it medium spicy and it wasn’t too hot(and I can’t handle spice much). 4) curry chicken — yum! I wasn’t expecting too much out of this but it was delicious. Rice serving size is also decent. All the prices were cheap for this area — I was expecting to be robbed b/c of its proximity to Fisherman’s Wharf. Fair warning — parking is not easy in this area so expect to possibly walk a bit but the neighborhood is safe and tourist-friendly. Overall, yum!

My family went to Henry’s Hunan for dinner last night and had a great time. The food is super authentic and delicious, and the prices are totally reasonable! We went specifically for the meat pie because we heard it was one of a kind. It’s worth making a trip over there JUST for the meat pie. The only way to explain is it like a Chinese tostada. We also ordered the Mo Si soup(perfect portion for three people), the pork fried rice with an egg(my favorite dish of the night), the Kung Pao shredded pork, and the dry-sauteed string beans. The only mediocre item was the string beans and only because they weren’t cooked long enough. The beers are only 3.50 and you get hot tie right when you sit down. The only reason this place gets four stars instead of five is because of the service. It was some of the slowest service I’ve experienced in a very long time, and the place was not that crowded. Not only did the food come out item by item(with 5 – 10 minutes in between), but when we would ask for something(like a glass of water or soy sauce) our server would forget and we’d have to remind him once or twice more. Getting the bill also took quite some time. Regardless, we will definitely be coming back, and ordering our Chinese takeout from there.

The ambiance of this place is definitely not hole in the wall, but the prices seemed like they were! I felt like eating something warm and comforting so I go the Wonton Soup, which I never do because my mom can easily make it at home, but it definitely hit the spot after a long day of being out. There wasn’t a ton of wontons, but it was enough to keep me satisfied. They were pretty good but not anything special. The broth was night and light and really good. I tried some of my friend’s food and it was pretty good as well, and the portions are pretty generous. When we saw the check, we were surprised at how low the total was considering it was a nice Chinese restaurant in the middle of SF, but we were happy with it. Overall, it’s a nice and clean restaurant with good food and decent prices.
