I got the soup dumplings which alittle over half of them were dry with no soup inside. The other dumplings that I order were also dry as well. The only decent thing in my opinion was the spicy beef noodle and skewer lamb. Nothing beats din tai fung so you might as well save your money and go visit din tai fung

Noodle soups are fantastic and the soup dumplings are everything you ask for. Also, very friendly service.

My girlfriend and I had a great experience first time in the restaurant. The regular pulled noodles were chewy and succulent. As a result, we decide to come back the very next day. However, we had a different experience the second time. We ordered the same regular noodles but it came out with flat noodles. The owner was arguing that they gave us the regular noodles when it fact it was bigger and wider. We had to compare it to the table next to ours. Seriously??? How do you not know?

Worst experience in sf. Charged 18% tip automatically without consent and notification. Nothing close to authentic Xian food.

After they’re change a new owner, they did charge 18% service charge even we had two people, and also charge us two dollars for green tea each person, we did ask for regular free tea! When we’re asked them reason why? They’d automated took out those charges without any explanation, I’m lucky because I did check my bill, what about you?

The beef noodle soup is good but I can notice that even the noodle is house made it is not hand pulled. The lamp dumplings is okay, just the dough is a little thick so you need some soy sauce for it. The food overall is okay but I don’t understand why they need to put 18% service charge on our bill when we only have a party of 2(my husband and I). I thought you would only add the mandatory service charge when you have a party of 6 or more. Is it a new trend in restaurants in Chinatown? maybe a lot of tourists do not tip??? but do they deserve 18% tips??? We are two adults and no kids and not messing up their place… I hope they put a sign somewhere in the restaurant or have the server kindly tell us. 18% for a homemade feel dumplings place… I think it is too much.

Was open earlier 11am Saturday vs House of Nanking next door so we decided to try it. Disappointed in the shrimp and chive dumplings, not much flavor. Used alot of vinegar to try and make do. The cold schredded potatoes were flavorless less the sauce. The fried chicken skewers we also just ok. We had hoped for a chicken teriyaki flavor. Service slow and we were the only ones there. Suppliers coming in and out taking very loud as if there weren’t any customers. Wish we had wai5ed for House of Nanking!

Our most recent find on our SF Dumpling Hunt! Small place but got a nice seat near the window. Shrimp & chives dumplings were definitely homemade, with the thick skin but the filling could be more plump. Tried to pace myself but still forgot to chew because yum. Boyfriend enjoyed his XiaoLongBao. Nothing fancy, just delicious. We shared the beef noodle soup whose broth is pretty spicy than what I’d like for this entrée. I love chewing on the noodles but would ask for a different broth. Quick, simple service. Food comes out fast but if you plan on ordering alot, get a bigger table.

I was completely underwhelmed. I was looking for dim sum and ended up here. The dumplings had no flavor and the dough was slimy. The garlic bok choy was very good. I sat squeezed in between people at one long table which was fine but if you are someone who doesn’t like to share a table with strangers this is something to consider. The iced tea was well past its expiration date. With all of the other options in this neighborhood I will not be coming back.

Saw House of Xian Dumpling across the street as I was walking up Columbus and decided to stop in for some Saturday afternoon dumplings. Now this place does not specialize in dumplings, they have lots of other options as well — beef noodle soup, chicken fried rice, etc. I am not personally a huge fan of Chinese food, so I decided to stick with soup. Ordered the Beef Noodle soup, which is slightly spicy. Along with that, I had the pork dumplings with spicy oil. Didn’t really love the dumplings but I think that is just because I am not a fan of the cuisine to begin with. I did like the soup though, nice flavor, not too spicy, and delicious beef. I do wish there was more beef in the soup though, only had about 3 pieces in a giant bowl. As well, the staff were very friendly and the service was quick.

One of my favorite restaurants in the city. The beef noodle soup with hand made noodles is absolutely delicious and some of the best that I’ve had. My coworkers and I crave this place pretty much every week. The appetizers are also absolutely delicious and authentic, and it all combines for a great economical and no frills meal. Good portions and well. The food is absolutely authentically northern Chinese, which is something that is generally harder to find in the US as most Chinese people here are from southern China. This is one of the few places that I’ve eaten at where it gave me nostalgia about being in China(I’m a northerner). I see something about a health score? No way, I’ve probably eaten here at least once a month, if not once every one or two weeks, for the last couple years and have never had a problem.

Let’s keep it real. This is not a luxury diner — right… So now that this is established, let me explain that I am rating this 5 stars based on a relatively no frills dining experience. That said, I will have you know that the food is better than several luxury dinning experiences I have enjoyed in the past with regard to Chinese cuisine. At House of Xian, I had the Beef Noodle Soup with the complimentary green tea:) … and the delicious soup dumplings. The Beef Noodle soup is one of the best noodle soups I have had in SF. Now, needless to say I am a repeat offender when it comes down to the Chinese cuisine and I have had many noodle soups. From the picture you can see the vibrant colors and hopefully from this review you can take me seriously when I say the noodles are fresh and delicious. The dumplings are also equally equip with freshness which I am always pleased by as I operate on a strict NOSTALEDUMPLINGPOLICY… After reading some of the reviews, I have to say I am flabbergasted how anyone could argue with the prices at this place. But this is just my humble opinion. I encourage you to try it for yourself. Nom Nom Nom.

Solid, consistent restaurant in Chinatown. I make a stop here the past 2 times I was in San Francisco. It’s one of those places you can get in and get out fairly quickly. The handpulled noodles are my favorite. I love the spicy beef hand pulled noodles. They’re perfectly spicy, but not the type of spicy where I’m in pain. The noodles are good. Really good. I love the texture of the hand pulled noodles, they were literally perfect. The dumplings are good. Not the best I ever had, but still pretty decent. The waitress forgot to put in my order for Shanghai soup dumplings, but the noodles were enough to fill me up. The service is quick. They’re nicer than some Asian places. I don’t know what it is about that spicy beef noodles, but I am seriously obsessed with them. Try it, you won’t regret it. I miss it so much now that I’m not on the West Coast. I guarantee you the next time I’m in San Francisco, you’ll find me here at one point.

Very unfriendly even by Chinese restaurant standards, I thought it was an exaggeration when people were saying how rude they were but it’s not– no greeting, no thanks, acknowledgment, etc etc. Overpriced and total rip-off, check my uploaded picture to see how small the xiaolongbao(steamed dumplings) are. Literally the size of the quarter and it costs like 8 – 9 bucks for an order of 8. I finished eating my ‘meal’ in literally 5 minutes before leaving to get some real food. Finally, not authentic– at all! I’ve had better dumplings prepared from a bag of frozen ones from a Chinese supermarket. Not at all close to the great dumplings we used to have at a fraction of the price in my hometown of Shanghai. Don’t listen to the people who’ve never had better and can’t tell…

Service: Horrible. The waitress literally threw the food on the table. She was probably imagining herself throwing the food on the floor so I’ll eat it like a dog. It wasn’t even that busy(restaurant was probably 20% full at most). Also, when I asked her I wanted to change something in my order literally 3 minutes after I made the order, she snapped at me and said«TOOLATE, FOODALREADYFINISHEDCOOKING!» …3 minutes?! Whatever… Food: Beef noodle soup tasted like those safeway canned beef broth + soy sauce… What is everyone talking about? It was horrible! The random meat chunks in there also tasted like expired meat… The dumpling skin was nice and chewy, BUT the meat inside was UNDERCOOKED. I didn’t want to deal with the waitress(she would probably snap at me again and spit in my food) so I took the dumplings to-go and microwaved it at home to cook it through…

Small little joint on the outskirts of Chinatown near the more touristy House of Nanking. I’m really digging the lamb options since that’s kind of rare at Chinese restaurants(except Old Mandarin Islamic). I really wanted to try the Beef Noodle Soup everyone raves about, but it was a warm day(for San Francisco) so I couldn’t bring myself to it. The dumplings and skewers were great though. Grilled Lamb Skewed [sic]: Full of cumin-y and lamb-y tastiness. Thin slices of lamb stretched on a skewer with nice charred bits through out. No gristle, just goodness. Shanghai Soup Dumpling: A decent xialongbao. Some soup(i.e. pork fat) inside, though not overflowing. I’ve had better, but have also had worse. Beef Pancake: A little light on the beef and heavy on the dough, but still tasty. Kinda dry, so bring on the soy sauce and/or chili sauce. Boiled West Lake Lamb Dumpling: I love lamb and I love dumplings, so this is a perfect pairing for me. A lot more personality than beef or pork. Generous portion.

Dumpling restaurant next to house of nanking in fidi. Limited seating, friendly service uncharacteristic of Chinese places. Pan fried pork dumplings — 3⁄5 — Needed to be fluffier, more moist and more flavorful. Beef pancake — 5⁄5 — It’s actually a beef dumpling fried inside of the pancake. Both unique and delicious. Pork dumplings in chili oil — 2⁄5 — Too much cabbage, sauce not spicy enough. XLB — 5⁄5 — Best XLB I’ve had so far in the city. Balanced sauce, gentle flavor, decent wrapper. Overall, this might be my new go to xlb spot because both the beef pancake and the xlb were«as good as it gets.»

Finally had a chance to visit this place. It did not disappoint! The dumplings were REALLY, really good. Damn. I don’t think they even did anything special to it other than just boil it. Tasted really good though Get the hot soy milk. They keep it in a hot pot so it’s REAL hot, so be careful. But man, does the soy milk taste awesome. I’ve never tasted soy milk so good The juicy pork buns where ok. Not a lot of soup inside, but not bad either. The beef noodles were pretty good, with a good broth and soft noodles Overall, a cool place that’s worth going back again and again

Went to try this place out as a co worker traveled to Xainyang china and kept going on about the superiority of Xi’An noodle and dumpling dishes. He was not wrong. The three of us shared pork dumplings in chili oil, house special chow mein, and the vegetable dumplings. The chili oil was both tangy and spicy, the dumplings were perfect. That was so far my best meal in Chinatown. Service was decent, waitress made a small mistake on the chow mein, but the manager corrected it immediately. Place was about half full on a thursday night so I suspect it might get super busy at times. The food is totally worth a small wait however.

Simple restaurant. I was looking for xiao long bao. It was all I want flying to San Francisco only because I would think that it’s better there than it is in Chicago. The service was ok, but I had to leave a review only because I had to HUNT for xiao long baos… And it was a good fix!
