The food was somewhat decent the first time I came here. Not even close to being authentic like you would get in Hawaii. I decided to give it a try a few more times but unfortunately Huli Huli failed to meet my expectations. The last and final time I had lunch there, I attempted to order the Hawaiian Burger cooked medium but was told«sorry we only cook it well-done». I guess that WOULD make sense if they were using frozen patties, right? I ended up just ordering the Chicken Combo Mini Plate. Horrible mistake and very disappointing. The steam rice was so hard and the Chicken Katsu was bland and over fried. Only half of my mini plate was eaten and I wasted $ 5.95 + tax. Never again… Better off just going to Ono Hawaiian BBQ or L&L Hawaiian Barbecue. Nicely seasoned food and way more flavor than Huli Huli has to offer.

3 things I love: Hawaiian food, outdoor seating, and community strengthening. This place is Hawaiian food with heart and they’re doing great things for the people of bayview and in the world. We need more of this. Love their BBQ chicken and their Mac salad is legit. Will have to come back for their Kalua pork and kimchi fried rice!

I love the spirit behind this restaurant: giving addicts and criminals a second chance. Love the huge gardens growing in the back yard. All the workers are cheerful and helpful and the dining room is clean. I wish I could praise the food. We came here for breakfast and ordered the egg sandwich and breakfast burrito. Sad to say it was just a small step above Macdonalds. Nothing to whoop for. Another black mark is that everything is served takeaway style— boxes and plastic forks. Why? Real dishes would make better environmental sense and are also so much more pleasant to eat from. Good luck, Huli Huli. You need it.

I’m so glad I was introduced to this place. I feel like I’m back in Hawaii every time I go. The food is great, the restaurant itself is well kept and clean, very spacious and the staff are wonderful! The staff have great hospitality, one of the best that I’ve ever encountered in any restaurant, it’s like family. I would HIGHLY recommend this place!

I always temper my expectation when I try Hawaiian BBQ places because I’m from Hawaii and I love Hawaiian plate lunches. I’m happy to say that Huli Huli didn’t disappoint. I’ve tried the musubi and the combo chicken plate so far. Most restaurants really mess up on the musubi by packing way too much rice into it but Huli Huli does a great job managing the key ratio between spam and rice. The sauce and furikake is also something I don’t normally see in mainland places so I was pretty stoked about that. The chicken combo plate was pretty good. My chicken katsu and BBQ chicken were both cooked well. Be sure to ask for the house sauce when you order. It tastes like finely blended kimchee and is quite delicious. I also really liked the price point of Huli Huli. Getting a delicious filling meal for under $ 10 in SF is no easy feat. All in all, I’ll definitely be back to try their other menu items!

What you’d expect(kalbi, katsu, kahlua pork) but I personally don’t think you can ever go wrong with Hawaiian food. Lots of seating(indoor and outdoor). Shaved ice too! Great for summer.

This place is good. I’m glad they opened nice places like this in the Bayview, the area is up and coming. Although it is slightly a tad pricey for the amount of food that they give you, it is good. Also, if you only have ½ an hour lunch and this place is a block and a half from work, it is worth the little extra. Call ahead for pick-up. They offer the shaved ice dessert, have not tried theirs but it looks good. As far as the food goes, I have tried chicken plate, the combo plate and the Hawaiian burger and fries. Each one was very well put together. I really enjoyed the fries that can with the burger. Like I said, I’m glad they are putting nice places to eat in the hood, I go here at least once a week.

Really good for«Hawaiian» food(which I normally avoid). Clean place, service a little spacey but workable. Seems to be receiving some sort of funding from the city or a «nonprofit» because this is rehabbed way too fancy for the pricing. Could be drug launderer? I usually get the combo plate. When I first started coming here it was a great deal, but lately they seem to have downsized the trays and portions so it’s downgraded to a «fair» deal. No worries, good place for lunch if you work nearby and get sufficient pay.

Gave this place a second chance and they still failed me. Rice was unevenly cooked and tasted funny, meat portions were a joke. I got the regular size vs the mini which was one scoop of rice and one scoop of mac, with the meat on a bed of veggies. Already the bed is clear sign of being cheap while giving less meat and making it look like more. Just threw my food away, I can’t take it anymore. It’s uneatable. Waste of my money and time.

Cool people, good food and fairly priced. I got the hawaiian burrito, or something like that. Don’t quite remember cuz it was a while ago, but it was really good. Customer service was really good and food was ready in about 7 minutes. Would definitely come back

I need to downgrade them to two stars. I’ve eaten here about 15 times since my last review, mainly out of convenience, and I’ve concluded they are lacking in consistency and customer service skills. Yeah, I know they come from broken backgrounds, but I’ve seen the same workers every time for 3 months, and they just seem to care less and less. On a recent visit, the cashier was too busy stuffing food in his mouth to help. Once he finally got to asking for my order, he cut me off to talk to a coworker about a basketball game. Stuff like this happens all the time… As for consistency, I order the same thing every time(burrito), and it can wildly vary in size and content. They need to pay more attention to this. Yes, I’ll keep eating here, but the folks that run this place really need to step things up a notch or two…

Definitely recommend. Wish it were closer to our place, we would probably hit up once a week. They’re also super great peeps in there, the patio looks pretty sweet if we went back on a warmer day. We had a BBQ plate set and a loco moco. The mac salad… so good. The burritos etc looked really solid too. All definitely better than your average L&L

Huli Huli is a counter service Hawaiian restaurant on the outskirts of San Francisco. Google Maps had me driving through warehouses and side streets to get there. But my brother was craving for Hawaiian food, so our family stopped by for lunch around the New Year. I ordered the kimchi fried rice and a side salad. There aren’t many vegetarian options here, and I was looking for something filling. The restaurant is very affordable; my meal was less than $ 10. I recommend the side salad. The tomatoes were great. Eat your vegetables, and ask for the dressing on the side. The fried rice was fine. The vegetables added an odd texture, and I’m not sure I tasted much of the kimchi. The food came in a to-go plastic container even though we did not order the food to go. We actually ran into Francis Chan, well known pastor and author, in the restaurant. My brother and sister asked him for a photo. Which led me to find that Huli Huli is a mission-based organization. Their website states that the restaurant gives opportunities to those that were once involved with crime or had addictions. The word Huli actually means turn, and for Huli Huli, I imagine it means turning away from crime or addiction.

Good portions, good price. I got the loco moco with kimchee fried rice. The flavor of the kimchee fried rice could be better, but overall, a good meal. I took off one star because the cashier/owner was on his phone doing a Togo order, so he did not smile nor acknowledge me fully during my purchase. He eventually put the phone away once the lunch rush started. I’m not buthurt, but I do think first impressions are important. I think that someone else that isn’t the cashier should be doing the phone orders. I would definitely come back :)

Are there dishes heavy? Hell yes they are heavy! Would I go back? Hell yes I would go back I was able to sample some of their tater tots/lumpia with kimchee sauce/sweet and sour sauce and also able to sample there loco moco plate Most places give you two beef patties two eggs a scoop of macaroni salad and gravy to bury everything in sight, here you get a helpful patty with 2 overeasy eggs 1 scoop of mac salad, and enough gravy to get another bowl pour into another scoop of rice and make a meal of it. Was their version of their loco moco good? YES yes it was, heavy portions on bed of white steaming rice with a heavy patty slapped on top with 2 overeasy eggs topped on the patty buried in gravy. The burger meat was medium well which I can appreciate because most places over do the meat. the gravy was dark brown definitely gravy for beef patties, everything meshed well with everything else. that gravy was thick not the flimsy kind you get at some chain hawaiian restaurants. the mac salad and something in it that made a crunch noise could not verify what it was I was eating but it was good the taters super fried and standard side that comes with plate orders and 1 lumpia that also comes with plate orders the kim chee sauce pairs well with both items I will have to come and eat here again instead of take out food **** heavy portioned loco moco, just 1 patty but it is a heavy patty service — ordered to go price $ ambiance — ordered to go

Found this on Unilocal and I couldn’t be more happy to get the food into my stomach. Overall I’d like to give a 3.5 stars. I’ve never really visit the neighborhood, parking was easy. I was surprised when I walked into the place, it’s clean with lots of open spaces! The menu board behind the counter looks very nice. I got Loco Moco to-go, unfortunately they only had one scoop left for white rice so I got kimchi fried rice as a sub for the other scoop. I know nothing about authentic Hawaiian cuisine but when my Loco Moco came up, it looked so YUM. Over easy eggs on top of gravy with burger steak and one scoop of white rice and one scoop of kimchi friend rice, with mac salad… :Q The food was delicious and very flavorful, I have to say it looked very appetite too. For me, gravy with kimchi fried rice was too heavy(but that was also my choice). However it tasted like heaven when I have a slice of egg, a bite of burger steak… words can’t describe my satisfaction. I would definitely come back to try the shaved ice!

3-star food, 4th star for really putting the«Huli» in Huli Huli. Y’all, «huli» is a Hawaiian word for«turn»; not just turning rotisserie chickens but turning criminals from a menace II society into benefits II society. That Lumpia & Burrito I just ate? Cooked by reformed villains. The sunny garden patio out back? Planted by changed evildoers. The dope aquarium pufferfish? Raised & fed by ex-inmates. The Hawaiian side of my family has an old saying called«heeyyyyyyyllyeah», which, roughly translated into English, means BIG mahalo & support to what this place is doing for its former cons and, by extension, the neighborhood. Also my stomach.

AMAZING hawaiian spot here!!! super cute spot with a patio as well. The food is really good. Had the teriyaki and katsu combo as well as the locomoco. Prices is good as well. Easy parking. I believe this restaurant is also raised from a Christian missionary with a good cause as well!

Sometimes I leave happy and sometimes I leave a little disappointed. Food is not always consistent but the prices are so reasonable I can’t hold it against them. Things I’ve eaten… Spam musubi(2⁄5) Spam musubi(3⁄5) it’s ok… L&L is better kimchi fried rice(2⁄5) way too peppery Tater tots 3/5, not seasoned very well but all you need is to add salt BBQ chicken mini plate with kimchi fried rice 3/5, chicken is moist but the kimchi fried rice was too peppery. I should have gotten the white rice instead. Loco moco is likely the best thing I’ve had there but be prepared to be in a food coma for the rest of the day! 3⁄5 Katsu Chicken(2⁄5) was really dry and didn’t seem to have that much seasoning. Hawaiian burger 3⁄5 was standard but the fries were pretty amazing! Shaved ice with ice cream is probably my fave thing to get here. On a hot day, it makes it everything nice and cool for a few minutes before the heat sets in again in a no ACSF building.
