Great experience! –Good for dates –Nice ambiance and intimate setting –Delicious food BURGER — as you can tell from photos, this is no joke. Piled high with ingredients, they literally need to stab a knife through it to keep it together. Meat is tender and everything together creates wonderful flavors. The side of fries is also quite tasty as well. OYSTERS — very good, went through them too quickly. WILDARUGULASALAD — great flavors, especially with the Parmesan crisps and balsamic. Would definitely come back here!

Had an incredible Sunday brunch here sitting at the counter with a friend. The coffee, oh yes! I ordered the french toast with eggs on the side. Sooooo delicious. I also had the beer-mosa, and it came out with my favorite beer. Was stoked! The service was top-notch. The restaurant was tiny. A reservation is definitely recommended.

Really good. The burger(see pic) was on point(I’d say it was a tad pricey at $ 17, but that’s a nit). The fries were yummy too. Good choice of on-tap beers.

Frendo used to tout her 50 #eyeroll bullet point list of die-hard qualities a mandidate(man candidate) MUST have or she wouldn’t even consider a 1st date with the mzafza. I like to think I’m simpler — all I need is a q2azz blonde with sensibilities somewhere on a #venndiagram between Samantha Bee and Clair Huxleyble. Turns out I like my burgers like I like my women: stacked, rare, & french onions. And did I mention cheesy? It’s a solid concept for a restaurant, the food was good. I also appreciate that they offer a mimosa in a wine glass, cause obviously. What really got me is the portion size. I got the smoked salmon toast & I am convinced it was the smallest piece of toast, ever. I felt like I was slightly cheated out of a meal.

***4.5*** Huxley is a great little find. Small little place, but call ahead and they’ll get you in. There’s a lot of crowded competition in the«Best Burger I’ve ever Eaten» category, so for me to say that their HUXDELUXEBURGER” is right up there, that’s saying a lot. Every aspect of the burger is spot on, the bun, the cheese, the perfectly fried egg on top. The over-done meat was my only sore spot, but other than that, it’s a burger I will dream about. My wife’s order of FRENCHTOAST was«the best French Toast I’ve had»(that’s beside mine of course at home). My cocktail(NEGRONI) was not very enjoyable. My first NEGRONI ever. Maybe I’m just not cut out for them, but didn’t like it. Huxley has the kind of food(and menu) that make me want to meet the chef. Wish they were across the street from our house.

I am usually disappointed when a chef is replaced at one of my favorite restaurants, but not so in this case. Au contraire! The new(okay, it’s been about 4 months) chef at Huxley has beyond exceeded my expectations and keeps getting better! The menu offerings are consistently imaginative, diverse, and incorporate the best seasonal ingredients(including edible flowers) — earthy yet somewhat ethereal at the same time. The wine list, while short, is excellent; the service personal and professional without being stuffy. I like it better each time I go – what more can one ask???

First time to have brunch here. It’s a small place. I walked past it when I was trying to find it. Coffee is good and free to refill. I had smoked trout toast. I think they replaced smoked trout with grilled trout that day. It’s delicious but the portion is pretty small.

Visited for brunch and were disappointed that they were out of the hux burger. The main reason for me to come here. I instead ordered the chorizo and egg hash with corn tortilla and the jalapeño cornbread. The jalapeño cornbread is good. You can taste the jalapeño’s and the small bit of heat to the cornbread flavor was nice. My chorizo and eggs was ok. It was spicy and I found the flavor to be a bit flat. The corn tortilla’s were a bit rubbery in texture but fine in taste. Overall it was an OK place, but I will need to revisit again to taste the burger.

I thought this place was alright. The ambiance is cute and interesting and the menu seems to offer items that most people would be interested in. I had the Challah French Toast, which is something I typically wouldn’t order and I thought it was pretty good. I appreciated the fresh fruit on top since it really made it a part of the dish rather than just a side item. While most places serve your french toast with the syrup on the side, at Huxley it’s already on there for you, which would usually bug me since I want to control the sweetness, but they actually put just the right amount on and it wasn’t too sweet. I also had a side of scrambled eggs and those were very good — cooked perfectly with just the right amount of salt. My visit was for brunch and I’d come back, but probably for dinner to experience something different.

In a town of amazing eats, I found Huxley to be ok. It’s a small, hipster restaurant with hipster décor and small plates of food with funky plating. I ordered: –Oregon hard cider –Whole wheat gnocchi with mushrooms: good mushrooms with maybe about a dozen gnocchi. Not terribly filling. Minimal saucing but good thing the mushrooms held up. –Side order of fries: I like how thin these fries are??? Huxley is a solid A-Ok 3 stars. Good mushrooms, I suppose.

First off, why only four stars: I only give fives to a very select few restaurants and they have to be literally mind blowing. Huxley was excellent, delectable even, but not quite mind blowing. Space is simple and straight forward. Menu is not simple – in a very good way. Original compositions but not overly complicated. I had the gnocchi and was delighted. Mushrooms were excellent and gnocchi was a perfect fluffy texture. Cheese was creamy and divine. Portion was small by NYC standards but in reality, perfect. My fiancé got the lamb which was a bit more traditional Morrocan. Lamb was cooked extremely well but I didn’t find it to have the same originality the gnocchi had. Caveat that the Morrocan take on lamb is not my personal favorite. We passed on aps but the couple next to us tried a few things and they all looked rather tasty. Would have loved complimentary bread or something to start but otherwise delicious and somewhere I’d return to on my next trip west!

Revisited Huxley last night while in town for a biz conference. There’s a new chef at the helm, Manfred Wrembel, who helped relaunch Schroeder’s menu in 2014. No more avocado toast, no more pot pies, no more whipped lardo. Which is a bummer since those were my favorite options. But you know what? Things change. And Huxley still offers a cool, hip vibe alongside fresh, seasonal ingredients. That includes whole wheat gnocchi, arugula salad, steak tartare and a Deluxe Hux burger that’ll knock your socks off. In a good way. Solid 4-stars and recommendation to check them out.

The avocado uni toast looks heavenly in photos, but a nightmare to actually eat. The bread was so hard that it was almost impossible to cut or bite into. I ended up making a mess with the toppings flinging all over our table. Please avoid this dish and try the pear French toast instead.

The food was good. The service was on point. The location… unfortunate. At least once we had dinner and free entertainment with the creative company that followed in every few minutes. Although we didn’t fear for our safety, I’m sure the staff was growing tired and ready to hire a bouncer to keep the«walkers» outside and away from patrons. Bread is brought in from Jane bakery(highly delectable), ice cream is from Shakedown(conveniently located across the street — check it out for second servings), and coffee from Sightglass Coffee. Outside of these few partnerships Huxley is throwing out some of their own favorites. The burger for instance — heaven. The seeded onion dill bun is what makes it the entire thing work. Stacked high above the rest you wouldn’t believe how big your mouth is willing to open up. Breathe deep and shove it all in for that one great bite… after bite, after bite. Ok — several great bites. Pass on the carrot soup and grab the chicken liver raviolis while they are still on the menu. Yum yum.

I came here looking for the avocado toast with uni butter but nope… not on the menu anymore. Seems like they switch chef’s and it’s no longer available. Disappointed but at least they had a french toast that was good. Pretty small spot, they do take reservations for brunch.

Valentine’s Dinner My boyfriend made reservations at Huxley for V-Day dinner(via the app Reserve). The food was absolutely delicious and inventive. However, my boyfriend and I both agreed that this was the most«hipster» restaurant, quintessentially located in the Tenderloin. We had the pre fixe V-Day dinner(which included a glass of authentic French champagne), and my boyfriend had the wine pairing. The restaurant, itself, is small, more like a hole in the wall with thin metal tables and chairs, but beautifully decorated. Because of the cost, we were expecting something a little fancier like white linen tablecloths, but the food was a stand out! The food included oysters with caviar, hamachi, squab with black truffles, and panna cotta dessert with edible flowers — fancy, fancy food.

Came in for brunch. The service was great. I really liked the scene. I wasn’t too impressed with the menu. I had the burger which would’ve been amazing if it wasn’t salted so heavily. No doubt I’ll be back but I probably won’t get the burger again. Mimosas and brunch cocktails were excellent. A bit pricey.

I have mixed feelings about Huxley. The space is relatively small but cute and sunny, and the brunch menu has plenty of hipster-y options such as savory and sweet artisanal toast options galore. My favorites were indeed the toasts — the avocado toast managed to take it up a notch by adding an uni paste, which was quite delicious, and I enjoyed the sweet fig, pear, and honey on brioche even more. Unfortunately the rice with egg and vegetables, and the Spanish omelet were forgettable. Also, they didn’t offer iced coffee or tea, which seemed a bit odd to me. The price point is around $ 10 – 15 and the service is friendly. If I go back, I would just eat all of the toasts, which I would happily recommend.
