Great spot to grab a bite to eat before headed to the beach. Friendly and quick service. Got the hummus veggie bagel and omg these bagels are bae. They are small but you can tell they are homemade, fresh, and perfectly toasted. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

Hands down best vanilla latte I’ve ever had. I’m not from SF so I checked the Unilocal reviews and decided to give this place a try. It was delicious! A little pricy but sooo worth it. Don’t let the long line outside fool you, it moves quickly. I’ll definitely be back!

After waiting for 45 minutes at the beach chalet down the street I walked to this place and what a great find it is! The food was excellent. I love the fact that they have soymilk almond milk and such great choices for breakfast. Their cakes are so fresh; they bake everything in house. And the service is outstanding!

Perfect for a quick meal or bite before you head to the beach. Just a walk across La Playa and parking seems to be plentiful. Got a blueberry muffin which wasn’t anything special and a warm apple spice. My boyfriend got a bbq chicken sandwich that was missing the bbq sauce but it wasn’t a complete disappointment. I would come here again but get a bagel sandwich, those look like they are promising

I accidentally discovered Java Beach Café during a long walk along Ocean Beach and what a lovely surprise too! I love love love this place. If its a sunny Saturday or Sunday this is definitely a go-to spot for me for a coffee and a snack. Located just steps away from Ocean Beach, Java Beach Café makes for one poppin’ spot. With their outdoor patio, yummy grub and relaxed beach-vibe it is definitely a restaurant I would recommend to those who find themselves in the Sunset district. Food-wise, Java Beach Café serves up some mean sandwiches. Anything from bagels to BLTs. Today I had the pesto veggie bagel on Asiago and booooy was it good! The pesto cream cheese and fresh veggies were precisely what I needed to wake me up… the cappuccino definitely helped there too. Alongside the sandwiches they also have great pastries, including scones, muffins, croissants — you name it and it’s fresh! If you make your way out to Java Beach Café on a beautiful day, don’t be surprised if there is a line. My suggestion: WAIT! Line moves quickly and the food it worth it. You’ll probably end up waiting for about 5 — 10 minutes for your drinks and food once you order at the counter, but the staff really work hard and do a great job.

Went to this café during my brother’s lunch hour and we had some tasty sandwiches. He ordered the Tsunami and I ordered the Pesto Tomato Mozzarella Melt. Everything tasted good and the place was nice and open with fresh air. Only down-side is that the lunch rush made the wait pretty long for both of our orders. Still — worth it!

Webster’s English dictionary defines hospitality as «generous and friendly treatment of visitors and guests: hospitable treatment.: the activity of providing food, drinks, etc. for people who are the guests or customers of an organization. I. e Java Beach» This is what Java does best, it makes you feel good, it’s makes you feel warm, and most importantly the place cultivates your deepest most intrinsic pleasures and dreams. But who cares, whats this review all about, I’ll tell you about my experience and why Webster himself believes Java beach to be the definition of hospitality. I walk in around 10pm, I’m hungry I’m tried and irritated. I walk up to the counter and immediately I hear a familiar humm. The homies in the back are playing«purple rain» by the artist formally known as prince. It takes me back to the 80s and it reminds me of my past love. Her name was Lucy Ann and she loved doing recreational drugs in neon lit buildings(RIP). Also RIP to The artist formally known as prince. Back to the story. My homie Bryan or maybe his name is Ryan. Idk. But he’s a good dude and he tells me about the day and hooks it up with some warm coffee and a takes my sandwhich order. The coffee was fire and the sandwhich was consistent. I mean for ducks sakes they put three slices of bread in there BLTs and you better believe that shit was grass feed organic and seasonal driven. All is well in my life, then suddenly a wild homeless man appears. He’s belligerent; drunk and wet with who knows what. The place is starting to reek and I start to get uncomfortable. The homeless man is bothering everyone making a mess and trying to cause a casual ol fashioned ruckus. Then Ryan or Bryan walks up to the homeless man and elequently calms him down. First the homeless man is in his own blurred world, but eventually Ryan’s or Bryan’s soothing and calm voice gets through the man. Amazingly the homeless man walks out, almost calmer and more silent than before. 10 outta 10 would dine again. The only thing I don’t like about the place is the lack of paper towels in the bathroom. But pretty much it.

Guys, it’s been an evening of highs and lows. Get off the train, starving. Head to Java Beach Café and realize at the door that I forgot my wallet at home. Dig in my pocket and realize I have $ 13 plus a Discover card I hid in an extra pocket for moments like this. My favorite barista is there! The one who makes untouchably perfect drinks. It is nighttime but you better believe I am about to drink 16oz of caffeine. No, Kasia, eat food first, priorities, focus dammit. Ok fine, make me a sandwich. Who else brings me my dinner than my #1 dude?! Gush to him about his skills while he laughs and assures me he’ll be here for a few more hours. Scarfed that sandwich DOWN. Time for the drink. Order at register, ask the woman taking my order for The Chosen One to prepare my drink because he does it best. Maybe she is slightly offended, sorry, it’s not personal, and besides, we can’t all be The Chosen One. She looks at my Discover card and asks if I have another card. Flashbacks to paying for my stupid sandwich with most of my cash. Devastation. Umm, I’ll check, but in my heart of hearts I know. Slink back to my seat where I tear my bag apart in vain. Sitting there thinking I should probably go because this place is just a bitter reminder of all I’ll never have. It’s ok, you’ll come back, I console myself. Console myself for longer than you’d guess I’d need to. Almost over it, but not quite yet. I look up and he is standing there! How did he know?! «Here you go» he says quietly, and hands me one on him. Not all heroes wear capes. TLDR: Good customer service

Great little restaurant conveniently located near ocean beach and golden gate park. This place has awesome ice blended coffee drinks. It was 90 degrees outside for the first time I can remember in SF and the mocha I got was super refreshing and delicious. Also had an open faced grilled cheese with green apples and spicy mustard. It was interesting and overall I enjoyed it. An issue with this place is that it can get very crowded and people awkwardly hover in random places while they wait for their food or drinks. It was also very warm in the restaurant. Great location, would come here again.

Huge line on a Saturday afternoon. There is nothing much to do other than wait in line. 5min away from the counter to order we are informed Kitchen is backed up by orders, atleast 25−30min wait on sandwiches. Oh well. But, Bagel sandwich has just 5min wait. Yey! we don’t have to go elsewhere. I order pesto veggie bagel. Standard size bagel, lot of pesto cream cheese, tomato, onion, lettuce, sprouts etc. Was very delicious. Will be back to try the sandwiches again in future.

This place is amazing! Right next to the beach, friendly staff(especially these cute girls names Jessica and Kenia), and good snacks. It is ideal for anyone who wants a nice view while studying or doing work. HOWEVER, at about 7PM this guy who’s been playing the guitar for 10+ years(I would’ve never guessed) comes in and plays loud depressing music. I asked to turn it down because I couldn’t concentrate on my work, the music wasn’t good and it was killing my vibe. They said they couldn’t because the owner pays him to be here. To the manager: GETSPEAKERSANDFIRETHEGUITARPLAYER. No one says anything and sometimes people clap to be courtesy but many people I spoke with would rather he go home so they can do their work in peace.

TLDR: Great coffee and great place to study or have a nice conversation with a friend, too small for groups of more than three unless you want to sit outside Environment: Java Beach Café is a wonderful place to study or complete work, which is the main reason I come here. It a small beach café vibe that is similar to one you might find in Santa Cruz. The music isn’t too loud, perfect level to have in the background while conversing with someone. The coffee: very good. I’m a fan of Coffee Bar and Blue Bottle and I’d say that Java Beach is on par with both of these places, but no better. Food: I’d recommend the chicken club. You get a lot of sandwich for your buck and will probably have to take some leftovers home Service: friendly, welcoming, not much to say here

I loved this place! Le fiancé and I came here after a volleyball meet-up at Mission Beach. We were super hungry but didn’t want to get too far into the city and face traffic the whole way home. Cute little beach café to the rescue! I’m gonna be honest, I had pretty low expectations. I figured it was mediocre sandwiches and burnt coffee. But I was pleasantly surprised! Le fiancé got a mocha hot choc thing, while I opted for an iced coffee(still my thing, even when it’s cold and rainy. Must be a SoCal thing). We split the tsunami sandwich, which has ham, mortadella, salami and melted cheese and the Caesar salad. All of it was super fresh and tasty! I loved the vibe of the place too, just very laid back and beachy but still very comfortable. If we’re ever in the area, we’ll definitely be back!

I’ve been coming to the Java Beach Café for years. To me they are one of these San Francisco institutions that somehow nicely combine the hippie generation with the hipster generation: examples of both«species» can be found here! It’s situated right at the end of the N-Judah line, so most of the time I come here when I’m about to go for a long stroll at the beach; loading up on caffeine and buying a sandwich for the«road» ahead.

I’ve been here quite a few times, this place is great when you want to study or hunt for jobs in peace since it’s right by the beach. This time around I got a hot chocolate, I also got one of their pilsners(yes they do serve beers on tap, pretty cool) and my fiancé got their matcha latte and a pesto bagel with avocado. Let’s start by saying that we were pretty disappointed by the hot chocolate and matcha latte, the hot chocolate wasn’t thick at all and not sweet, and the matcha latter had just a hint of matcha flavor. Why the 4 stars you may ask, well the pesto cream cheese bagel was good, the beer was pleasant and I’ve had their coffee and it’s pretty decent, however you definitely can’t beat this location and laid back ambiance. I definitely recommend this place if you’re trying to get some school work done or if you’re just at ocean beach and need to grab a bite or a brew.

Maybe it’s the nostalgia in me, but I came to this spot at least a few times a month while in high school and it hit the spot every single time. The sandwiches are fresh, filling and flavorful(look at that alliteration). All their sandwiches come with kettle cooked chips which provides a nice little crunch(and maybe you’ll slip a few into your sandwich); the drinks are good and you can’t beat the location. Mozzarella, tomato, pesto melt — 5⁄5 an open faced sandwich with white pesto, hearty slices of tomato and globs of melted mozzarella. One of my favorite sandwiches on the menu that’ll make you forget you ever needed meat on bread Kelly’s Cove — 4⁄5 for those of you that need a little bit of meat, this is a classic turkey and pesto sandwich on multigrain that’ll satisfy you every single time Tsunami — 4⁄5 and then this tops it off for the meat lovers. Frozen Hot Chocolate — 5⁄5 the perfect drink to get and take a stroll on the beach on a nice, hot day(hot for SF that is) They’ve got great indoor AND outdoor seating; additionally they sometimes have live music playing(on Thursday nights if I’m not mistaken). A truly amazing, relaxed atmosphere with super friendly staff and all around stellar food + drinks

JBC is across the street from the beach and definitely brings a laid back kind of feel to the neighborhood. I lucked out and found a parking space nearby, waited 30 minutes in line and 10 minutes for my order. I immediately chomped into my Tsunami sandwich and side of chips. The sandwich tasted great and I enjoyed the freshly toasted sourdough bread. If you are with a friend, consider splitting a salad and sandwich for a lighter meal. Overall, if you are not in a rush and have over an hour to kill, this is a very chill place to kick it for lunch.

It’s like having coffee in someone’s treehouse. This place is so tiny. The singer was so bad that I wanted to grab the microphone from him. I could do a better Pearl Jam song. Decent coffee, crowded spaces. People crowding around as I’m trying to talk to my date who, after having a beer, we both realized this wasn’t going to work. I live a very boring life. Work. Occasional travel. Hanging out with friends watching the latest blockbuster film. Fine dining. Any dining really since I love food. My date’s only goal in life is to be a beach bunny. I’m not exciting, I realize that, and I’m not into lounging around at the beach or clubbing. No match. Much like this coffeeshop, just not my style.
