Every since my college days in Upstate New York and going ham on Jimmy John sandwiches, I’ve been on the prowl to find a Jimmy John’s location in the Bay Area. Not sure when it initially opened, but two years later and reading reviews about a Jimmy John’s in the Financial district, I knew my prayers had been answered. It’s location is prime time, located in the financial district in the Crocker Galleria Plaza, and an awesome lunch break adventure. The line gets fairly long during lunch hours, but it moves pretty fast, getting people in and out. If your in the financial district or have a craving for some of the best made subs in the bay, well here’s your opportunity!

Eating at my desk is a regular occurrence. Shake out my keyboard and who knows what you’re going to find… the«everything» from my everything bagel, the sprinkles from my pop tart or the crumbs from the countless sandwiches I’ve had. Today, I had the cleanest sandwich in my life at Jimmy John’s. The Big John #2! Not one crumb, not even one stray strand of lettuce was found on the wrapping paper. The key seems to be the French roll they use. Weird(in a good way) texture, almost plastic-looking but soft with a distinct chew. The sandwich was above average, with its simple combination of mayo, lettuce, sliced tomatoes and roast beef, all neatly tucked into the roll. Service was quick and friendly. Didn’t even have a chance to check my e-mail when the sandwich was ready-to-go. And at $ 6.00(tax included); that’s a steal in the Fi-Di.

Cheap, fast, simple and good. I’ve never been to the location at Crocker but our Office Manager orders Jimmy John’s for lunch meetings for us from time to time. I’ve heard they’re not only fast at making them but they also deliver them for free fast too. They have customizable options and you can place your order online and ask for light, regular or extra of anything on your sandwich. There’s not too many bread options, but there’s a fair selection of «extras» selections and cheeses. Get the Vito or the Beach Club. I’ve noticed though that the sammies are quite fatty though, even a turkey sammie! I’ll eventually make it out to the storefront one of these days, but am glad that Jimmy John’s is an option over Subway. Subway boo, Jimmy John’s yay!

This location consistently screws up my order. Just because the guy in front of me ordered«hold the mayo» doesn’t mean I want the same thing. I would wait more than 5 minutes, if they would just slow down and make the sandwich correctly.

I am baffled by the 4-star designation this place has. Astounded. Not quite outraged, but I’m close. Do you know why they are so fast? Because every little cookie-cutter sandwich this place makes is halfway prepared while you order! This place is the very embodiment of BASIC. The bread is soft but weird, and the meats are as cheap as they come, and the other ingredients are practically colored and solidified water. No mustard by default? Pffft. Mustard was the only thing that could save this«sandwich.» Jimmy John is the guy that Subway dated for a while, but even Subway flipped her gross hair and was like nah, this dude shops at Walmart and uses air-quotes to say things like«for realz» and«gangstah.» With so many other decent options within inches in Crocker Galleria it is amazing to me the line this place gets. Impressive marketing, Jimmy, if that is your real name.

Convenient location to grab a quick sandwich and go. Boy — they are truly fast. Usually it’s complete within 1 minute. Make sure to tack on the extra pickle too for an extra buck! Also, if you want to be healthy, ask for light mayo.

Jimmy John’s is located in the Crocker Galleria in the Financial District on the 3rd floor. I usually walk in sometime before 11am and when I put in my order, less than 5 mins later I get my sub. No waiting in line for people to pick their toppings. The Italian Night Club is my go to sandwich. Comes with Italian meats, italian dressing, lettuce, tomato, mayo. I usually get hot peppers in it too to give it an extra kick. It’s a well made sandwich, not dry and flavorful. It’s not the cheapest sandwich in the area but it’s consistent. Solid spot to grab lunch in the area.

ah JJ’s — this reminds me of my undergrad years back in Michigan where JJ’s was my diet for those late nights. THis JJ’s is the exact same and no one can beat that speed. I got there around noon today and there was a small ine out the door but have no fear because within 5 minutes, i ordered and had my sandwich. super fast, super good.

A fresher, lighter and less salty version of subway; all their sandwiches are quite good and especially with sprouts. Their bread is long, thin, crispy on the outside; and they remove the excess bread on the inside when compiling all the ingredients. Even the amount of sauce just right and not too heavy.

This place is delicious. I’ve spotted this sandwich place around the city, but didn’t try it until last Friday. The staff is incredibly friendly and my food was prepared super fast. There was a lot of people and a line was forming outside the shop, but I waited probably about 5 – 6 minutes. The shop itself is very clean with some seating outside. I came around 12pm, so it was understandable about how busy it was. I ordered a roast beef sandwich on a French roll with an order of jalapeño chips. The sandwich and chips were delicious. The food was very tasty and I even asked for some hot peppers in the side to add to my sandwich. A great and tasty sandwich spot that I will definitely come back too!

Ok, San Francisco. It’s time to have a talk. I understand why you think small, mom and pop businesses are the only possible places that should exist. I am a nostalgic person too. And, I root for the little guy. But, I don’t hate the big guy. Sometimes businesses are big because they are good. Unabashedly, I think Jimmy John’s is the shizzle. I’ve liked them for a long time. Good menu, which is highly underrated in that the bigger size option doesn’t mean length, it means more meat. The meat, provolone cheese and veggies are terrific. They always use perfectly ripe tomatoes. The SUPERSTAR is the french bread. It’s chewy and flavorful, and it is exactly the right fit for the makings. All in all, the sandwich is always good. Always. So, I hadn’t had JJ’s in years, in fact, since moving from Denver. I used to live a few blocks from one and dominated their delivery. Like many things from my pre-SF-normal-life, I learned to live without my go-to convenient sandwich. Then they opened one in the Crocker Galleria — which happens to be a great location both in terms of the store(great quality) and the Galleria. I recently moved back to working in the FiDi, so like the prodigal son, I returned. So good. I’m addicted. I always go with the Giant Club Sandwiches(actually, the medium available size) on the regular french bread which is a solid amount of food for $ 7.50. My go-to’s are: #7SMOKEDHAMCLUB — ¼ pound of real smoked ham, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato & mayo. Always simple but my favorite. #9ITALIANNIGHTCLUB — Genoa salami, Italian capicola, smoked ham, and provolone cheese all topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo & homemade Italian vinaigrette. #10HUNTER’S CLUB — A full ¼ pound of medium rare roast beef, provolone, lettuce, tomato & mayo. Arguably one of the better $ 7 roast beef sandwiches you will have. #12BEACHCLUB — Fresh baked turkey breast, provolone cheese, avocado spread, sliced cucumber, lettuce, tomato & mayo. This also has optional sprouts. Do it. #16CLUBLULU — Sliced turkey breast, bacon, lettuce, tomato & mayo. Good with extra cheese. #17ULTIMATEPORKER — Real wood smoked ham and bacon with lettuce, tomato & mayo. Also good with extra cheese. Fine… I’ll take a little crap from my colleagues and fellow Unilocalers that I could probably go out and find something more gourmet or something that is unique. But, I’ve never once been disappointed with Jimmy John’s. And now that it’s less than two blocks from work… Game on.

Pros: Freaky fast, cheap, seems clean(100 health score) Cons: Boring bread, mediocre fillings Probably the best I can say about Jimmy John’s is that it’s better than Subway. As their sign says, they’re «freaky fast» and it really was! I got my sandwich in hand about a minute after ordering it. The only sandwich on the menu that appealed to me was the Vito, which is a standard Italian combo. Now, I live in North Beach, and I’m used to getting Italian Combo’s from Freddie’s and Molinari’s, and JJ is no where near the same league. JJ’s bread may have been freshly baked at the store, but it was a bland white roll, an upgrade from Subway’s bread, but still comparable. The meats and cheese were pretty bland. The kosher pickle was pretty cool though. Very big, not quite crunchy, and bursting with pickle juice. Jimmy John’s fans seem to like JJ’s because they grew up with it in the Midwest. If it doesn’t have any nostalgia value to you, then it’s just a chain sub shop, that’s very fast and better than Subway, but that’s not really saying much.

This place is not very good. They say it is but it isn’t all that. Their meat taste like Oscar Meyers meat and you only get two tomato slices, one thin layer of lettuce, and when you ask for double meat you get two slices! I can’t even imagine what the regular sandwich looks like.

It’s Jimmy John’s, subs are consistent, service is fast. You’re in and you’re out. I am a fan of the chain and it is a goto lunch spot for me. Even when there is a long line at lunch it’s pretty quick.

Growing up in Connecticut, we called these long sandwiches«grinders»(before the similarly named«dating» app existed) and we didn’t have many exciting options to choose from(e.g. Subway, Blimpie’s, mediocre local Italian shops). It took moving to California(from NYC) to become familiar with this Midwestern delicacy! I really love the bread; you know it’s fresh not only because it tastes fresh, but because it gets stale the next day(unlike Subway). I also like that Jimmy John’s isn’t shy with the mayo. Guess the only thing I miss is not having sliced pickles on the sandwich, but it’s still pretty darn good! JJ Gargantuan: I rarely focus on just one favorite item, preferring to try different menu items each time I visit a restaurant. However, not at Jimmy John’s! The JJ Gargantuan with all the Freebies, except Sprouts(since they taste like dirt) is my signature! First of all, it is delicious because it has pretty much every cold cut sold at the store. Additionally, I can usually make two meals out of it(unless I’m super hangry).

Finally making an entrance our west! Being from back east I wasnt aware what I was missing until moving to St Louis in ’06. Like an old friend — good to see again! Location could be better(i.e. stand along building) but the west coast being what it is, I’ll take it! Subs need no explanation — you won’t be disappointed. Oh and no light mayonnaise here, it’s the real deal. Happy to see Jimmy’s back within driving distance & can only hope they will expand down to the south bay!

Came with a group of folks to Crocker Galleria for lunch. I chose Jimmy John’s as it’s a bit of a local legend. I’m still trying to figure out why. ***ITALIANNIGHTCLUB — Genoa salami, capicola, ham, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo & vinaigrette. Let’s start with the bread. Plasticky exterior that required athletic muscles of mastication. Chewy throughout instead of the preferred toasty exterior & soft interior. I was really looking forward to this meat combo, but the ingredients felt intentionally low grade, there was no tantalizing meaty essence. The provolone didn’t provide a good match in my opinion. The worst part was the shredded lettuce, which had a particularly cheap flavor to it, probably mostly due to the vinaigrette selection, which tasted like a pre-made generic grocery brand. Never mind, the mayo was really the worst part. Maybe it’s a tie. I’m no Subway fan, but I’d choose it over this place any day. There was really nothing redeeming about this sandwich. Except maybe the hot peppers. They were kinda good on their own. If you close your eyes.

Like a true Midwesterner, I flock to Jimmy John’s. The smell of their freshly baked bread draws me in every time. Even if it’s not the same thing as the fancy schmancy loaves you can find around San Francisco, I grew up on this stuff! Yes, there’s a Jimmy John’s in the Financial District. Tucked away on the 3rd floor of the Crocker Galleria shopping center. On any given weekday, you can find a line of business men and tech nerds lined up outside their doors, just waiting to order. Not sure if they like the cheap pricing or are fellow Midwesterners? Either way, word has gotten out! My go-to order is the Vito. With chips and a drink. Nothing too crazy, just some meats on white bread. Probably not the most authentic Italian sandwich ever, but I crave it every 5 – 6 months.

I have been Jimmy John’s a couple of times, always good service, clean restaurant, nice location. I order the traditional Italian Sub ham capicola. the bread is fresh, as is the lettuce, tomato, and decent portion of meat. My only complaint is not enough oil vinegar, the sandwich is too dry. I even requested extra oil and vinegar and then verified ‘did you put extra oil… yes ’ and still got a dry sandwich not sure how to request it again. The jimmy john potato chips are OK and a lot of sandwich shops wont carry Lays Chips but force you to buy some brand chip you may or may not like. I prefer Lays. Still its a great bet, there are many sandwiches on the menu to ray and its reasonably priced. A good bet. Update: My recent experiences have been even better than the previous good ones: I now get the extra meat, and extra sauce, and the sandwich is now pushing a 10.

I had been to Crocker Galleria before, but I didn’t know about Jimmy John’s(on level 3). My coworker and I went to grab lunch and he told me about Jimmy John’s. He knew about it from growing up on the East Coast. I got the #12 Beach Club, which was delicious and it was the perfect size. They have a good number of subs, so you’re bound to find one that suits our taste. I’ll definitely be back to try another sub! The place is pretty popular, so there may be a long line. They move really fast; in the time that I had told the cashier my order and put my card back in my wallet, my sub was on the counter to pick up. What? Whoa! The only trouble might be finding a seat to eat. There’s shared tables on the upper floor among all of the restaurants and cafes.
