I ordered a small I’d on with the Curry sauce and beef. The curry sauce is spicy but paired perfectly with the sweeter teriyaki beef and the thick udon noodles. I also ordered the Rock and roll and spider rolls both were very good. I’ll definitely be back.

Very good food! Chose this restaurant randomly. Got the spicy beef udon, eel and avocado roll, spider roll, and curry udon. All of it was very good. The spicy beef udon wasn’t too spicy but the broth was incredibly flavorful and delicious and the bowl was huge! The curry udon was really well prepared and the broth was really good. Eel and avocado roll was really fresh! The service was also really good. Waitress was very attentive patient. Definitely coming back.

Not the greatest sushi in the world, but pretty damn delicious when it’s midnight in the middle of the week and you’re dying for food delivery. Their udon, though — so, so good. Sometimes I’ll order a giant serving and save it for leftovers for the next day.

This place made me sad. I blindly chose this location since it was close to our next venture, assuming amazing food in any part of SF, but this experience proved otherwise. I ordered the grilled eel udon special. Friends had kimchi special and bbq pork special. Boyfriend ordered a small customize soy based which is TINY compared to what the rest of us got. First off, I do always appreciate hand-pulled noodles. This place definitely gets kudos for that, even though it wasn’t necessarily udon style. I ate all the noodles. The grilled eel on top was also good. Broccoli, carrots and veggie in my broth was very undercooked. The broth was a messy tofu based, overly cloudy and looked old, and I found grey clumps of random meat bits in it. The spoon smelled of old sponge, which I got a whiff of everytime I ate a bite of noodle. The fried oyster was very fishy on the inside, a huge turn-off. Friend commented the kimchi was too spicy, but the broth was too mild. Other friend had a tofu allergy and didn’t realize the pork udon would be tofu based so had to switch with my boyfriend’s tiny bowl. The side fixings are essentially side dishes, not something that comes with the udon. Boyfriend enjoyed his tempura chicken and spicy tuna roll, so he had a much better experience. Overall inconsistent food quality.

They sent my friend spoiled food. Then, after she threw up and tried to tell them the food she had was inedible, they called her a liar and misgendered her(she’s transgender) — this is beyond unacceptable. This business shouldn’t be open if this is the way they treat paying customers. This establishment is transphobic and rude and delivers spoiled food– do NOT support them.

I had been here once a long time ago, and had written it off as very mediocre. Now that I’ve moved to this neighborhood, I decided to give it another try because it’s so close and it’s open late. So ever since I gave it another try, I’m now a regular customer! They are fantastic for takeout or delivery too if you’re in the neighborhood. I typically like the udon, which is well-made, and the spam masubi and croquette. Their entrees are also really good, and comes with ice cream! This isn’t a fancy place, but a great, tasty, affordable neighborhood restaurant.

this place is sometimes a hit and miss. The first time I ordered from here the delivery driver said that they don’t deliver this far. I was okay with it and wasn’t going to order again from them which I haven’t since. My co worker ordered from this place like 2 times and the driver never said anything about it being to far. The food is GREAT but they really need to work on customer service. REALLYFRESHSASHIMII

I appreciate that the udon noodles are made in house at Kaka Udon Kitchen. Came on a chilly night where a bowl of udon noodle soup seemed like the perfect meal. I had the small bowl of udon with the pork broth paired with a side of salmon shioyaki and veggie kakiage. I really like the texture of the noodles — it’s springy with good bite-back. My issue was with the broth. Perhaps I picked wrong but the pork broth tasted chalky as though it was made from seasoning granules. It just tasted artificial. I think sticking with the simple soy or konbu base might be better. The sides were decent. The salmon was seasoned just about right and the veggie fritter, while a little oily, provided nice textural contrast. It seems their business is predominantly takeout but service is adequate if you dine in. I appreciate the home-made noodles here and if you avoid the pork broth, you should be fine.

I used to enjoy this restaurant, particularly for late night delivery drunchies. I never thought of it as the best sushi in town(far from it), but it served its purpose. On Thursday night, I ordered uni – something I’ve gotten a couple of times before– and immediately after putting it in my mouth, I knew I had made a mistake. It tasted like rotten eggs! A few hours later, I broke into hives all over because my body was responding to whatever bacteria I ingested. Still waiting on the hives to go away four days later, wahoo! Now, upon coming to Unilocal page, there’s an advisory notification to avoid this restaurant due to a low health safety score. Wish I saw that on Thursday! Good luck to whoever tries this spot out…

Please let me share a story that happened to me tonight so you too can avoid this place like the plague. I ordered the 2 entrée deal from grubhub, which is $ 16.99, alongside a side of poke salad. Being a 2 entrée order, I believed it was for 2 entrees. An hour later, What i got was a few pieces of cold chicken, and half a cup of rice. My total was $ 30 w/tip. I called them and asked if I was mistaken, when she said the description on grubhub is not correct I asked that they pick the food back up. This was not $ 30 worth of sub-par food. She argued with me, fiercely, and I said I no longer wish to discuss with her and will use grubhub to mediate. Grubhub called her and she sent a driver back to pick up the food order and grubhub will process the refund. Please, do not give places like this your business. After visiting Unilocal I learned this place is in the BOTTOM5% of the cities health code inspections. To the restaurant itself: This is not a place that deserves to stay open unless it seriously reconsiders how it does business, how it speaks to a customer who is dissatisfied with their order, and how it maintains healthy standards of cleanliness and food care.

I think something has gone wrong, I have ordered from Kaka Udon for a few years now and it seems like the quality has left the building. It used to be my go-to for cheaper, delivered sushi, but my latest order was probably my last from them unless they get things sorted out. I didn’t eat two of the rolls I ordered due to some scary/unpleasant flavor from my first bite, and with sushi you really don’t want to take any chances. The next morning I called in to let them know what happened, and they seemed pretty apathetic about the whole situation. After saying that their sushi chef would check on this and call me back later, no calls were returned. It really was the topping on the sushi roll(sorry) for me to see the health inspection note on the Unilocal page when I logged in to write this. Yikes!

Stay away from the sushi. Fish is not fresh, rice is over cooked, and the rolls are 95% rice. Made this mistake twice. Won’t make it a third

So, lazy Sundays calls for dinner-in-bed(sorry mom!). Anyway, I didn’t want to drive out to order sushi from my beloved Yum Yum Fish so I was searching near and far on Postmates & Eat24. The Postmates surcharge was unlike anything I had seen before so I went with Eat24 and found places that offered free delivery(this was my first time using Eat24). It took my exactly 1 hr and 7 minutes for my meal to arrive. The ratings for Kaka Udon weren’t exactly stellar on Eat24 but I figured that it couldn’t be that bad. The fish didn’t taste fresh, and had a fishy aftertaste for some pieces(I ordered a combo for 2, a spicy ahi/tuna roll, and another spicy roll(I forgot if it was hamachi or whatnot). As much as I love sushi, I don’t like the fishy aftertaste of fish – it produces a certain gag reflex which is quite unattractive and difficult to suppress in front of dining companions. I also noticed an INSANE amount of lemon juice that was squeezed onto almost all of the pieces that contained raw fish(which was a major red flag). Ok, it wasn’t too sour/lemon-y but I have a really sensitive palette. To top everything off, I felt slightly nauseous a few hours after my meal(around 11pm) but thank god I have a strong stomach and nothing too unfortunate happened. Either way, I’m disappointed that the fish wasn’t fresh. Note to first time sushi eaters: don’t come here, I recommend starting off your raw fish journey at a place that serves high quality fish. The positive aspects was the soup, I had no idea that the order came with miso soup(although it didn’t really taste like the bean paste too much). My favorite roll/sushi out of everything I ordered was the California roll – which is unfortunate because it actually doesn’t contain any raw fish… so I’m sensing a theme here. Perhaps Kaka Udon fares better with cooked dishes. Overall, I consider my $ 55 wasted because the meal wasn’t that great. Also – I was quite horrified that upon clicking onto the reviews on Unilocal for Kaka Udon, they had a Consumer Alert: Poor Food Safety Score! warning that popped up. Go Unilocal for looking out, but I wish I had done my due diligence and looked up the reviews on Unilocal before placing my order. Needless to say, I was and still am horrified I ate here because of the poor food safety score… Also, I wish I had seen Mike L’s review beforehand too – I prob wouldn’t have ordered from this restaurant.

Hit or miss. It’s easy to find an udon place but hard to find a place that makes udon the way you like. Man, I miss Hotei that used to be on Irving and ninth, hat was my go-to place. Now, I’ve been searching for a new place to call my go-to and my hunt is still going. I first noticed kaka based on the sign they have outside, «fresh udon», who wouldn’t wanna give that a try. I’ve been here three times and all three times, my udon noodles had a different texture to it. One time it was too soft, decent and the most recent time, it was too hard. I do want to give them another try, but for now, I’ll continue my search elsewhere.

This place has not changed very much. The food is still very good. I highly recommend their handmade udon. I usually go for the spicy curry udon with suki beef topping. Their soft shell crab is also very good. Their sushi is good, but there is nothing special about it. They are plenty of restaurants that serve sushi in the city.

Boss is treating out for lunch? Heck ya, I want KAKA! ;) The name might not be the most appetizing, but I assure you their lunch deals are. All my co workers got the bento box, depending on the entrée you choose, it’s mostly $ 12.95 and under. I had the chicken katsu and salmon teriyaki combo. I love the plentiful dark chicken pieces and the salmon was a good size too. You get a small side salad and enough rice to feed a hungry, hungry gal. *raises hand * Delivery is free and so convenient when you order on eat24.

I ordered on line delivery through grub hub. The predicted delivery time was at 8:40, I placed the order at 7:35, and the food came right at the time it was suppose to come. I tried to get change but the delivery driver said that she didn’t have any. The edemame was okay. The soup was okay. The salad was impeccable with perfectly placed avocadoes and really tasty creamy sauce, and lots of sesame seeds. The fried California roll was soooo good. Really crispy and creamy and fresh tasting. The mochi was melted by the time it got to me, so I couldn’t really enjoy it, but if you order it straight from the restaurant, I’m sure it tastes great. The lemonade was way too strong, and I didn’t like the taste of it, but I normally drink light lemonade anyway. I would order all of it again except for the lemonade, and maybe next time I will order the udon, since it seems that is why everyone else orders from here.

Finally got to try this udon place that I passed by a few times, it is just a bit far out from downtown. We got the special udon, grilled eel udon and Japanese BBQ pork udon. Each udon bowl came with other toppings, like tofu, seaweed, enoki mushroom and some veggies. I really like having many small things in the soup. Udon and broth were both pretty good too, chewy and not too salty.

Fresh made udon? Where?!? Came here for lunch today because one of my coworkers wanted udon for lunch and all three of us never tried this place. Menu options for udon looked good at first glance with choices of small, medium, large and additional ‘fixings’, but then I realize that the fixings don’t really go with the udon… Like I would want inari with my udon… Food– all three of us ordered a japanese pork udon. I thought it was a safe choice, but boy was I sooo wrong! The soup tasted fishy… OLD fishy like the fish broth have been boiled over and over for a week, Udon was wayyyy overcooked that breaks easily, toppings were random with carrots and broccoli that weren’t that fresh, chashu also tasted old… The entire bowl of udon just tasted off! I was hungry, but still had to force myself to eat some. How can they mess up udon! I can cook frozen udon and it will taste 20x better. We ordered a red dragon sushi roll, it was sooo salty… even without soy sauce. Service– waitress was nice. she spoke to us in Chinese. I didn’t expect that, but I guess it was because she overhead us speaking in Chinese to each other. Seating– felt strange. Tables are placed close together with benches. Tables are small. Seated next to each other, my coworker and I felt cramped Never coming back again. And to add extra bad taste, we saw the health code posting and this place was rated a big 73 points! That is the lowest I’ve ever seen in my life. Don’t even want to know why they scored so low. Would have given this place 2 stars for their service and possible other food items that are okay, BUT had to change my mind because they really advertise their udon… ‘Freshly made’… Udon on first page(actually cover) of menu and glass window at entrance where one could see the chef making ‘fresh udon’. No chef was there today…

This is my FAVORITE restaurant near work. I call it the Udon place, because the name makes me cringe and giggle like an 8 year old. I saw this place and heard about how they make their own udon and I had to go. On my first visit, I ordered the Spicy Beef Udon and now that’s all I want. Every day. It’s that good. The Spicy Beef Udon has a really broth that melts, I don’t know how best to explain it but it’s just soothing. There is an egg, vegetables, seaweed, great udon noodles topped with thinly cut spicy beef. I LOVEIT. I usually go with my friend for a quick lunch. We order our soups and split a roll. Although that is a lot of food, the food is so good we want to try it all. We place our orders with hot tea and they bring you complimentary edamame. The Seafood Udon is also a great soup. The miso like seafood broth is so delicious and savory and it has fish, scallops, fish balls and lots of seafood, so good with the fresh and hot noodles. As far as the rolls I’ve had the Sakura(with real CRAB), the Three Amigos(SPICY lovers) and the Niners Roll. All were really great and I want to try them ALL. I would seriously come here everyday if I could, but try to save it for those special work days when I really want to indulge in great savory udon and get a roll. It truly is a Japanese Comfort Food place and I LOVE it. BUT hate the name. It’s so awkward saying you really want to go to Kaka, but it’s really one of my top ten soup spots of all time.
