Fast and efficient. Sushi rolls that I got was really good just melted in my mouth. Service good. Will come back.

Came here Saturday with my husband as we had a mini stay-cation in flag. My husband ordered the chicken noodle bowl I ordered the«Pluto roll» the food was tasty however the morning after this last dinner meal my stomach started killing me I had the runs for a couple days now don’t know if I’ll try it again…

Just visited Kama for the first time because I was in the neighborhood. Ordered Ramen & Cucumber Rolls to go. I got back to my office and opened my paper sack to find two containers. One small cup with stock and a second rectangular shallow dish with noodles, pork & egg. While I was impressed to see the noodles separate from the stock for obvious reasons. There was no container large enough to combine the two. Mind you this was a takeout order. Needless to say, there was no way to eat this ramen as it was intended. I called Kama to discuss this issue and they said I should have a bowl at my office to combine my soup. I guess the next time I want Ramen at work I’ll just make it myself with Cup o Ramen and probably end up less hangry.

Went in with pretty low expectations but was pleasantly surprised! Kama has really great large pieces of fish, extremely FRESH, and a good deal of variety. Their house sake is pretty delicious as well(no headache post cheap sake… win). The happy hour specials make it a pretty decent week night spot, which is very much appreciated in the neighborhood.

The veggie ramen was very flavorful and it came with either an avocado or cucumber roll! The portion was huge as well, which I liked!

Great lunch specials! I’ve only came here for lunch so far and it’s pretty packed. Especially during lunch peak hours but service is fast and seats free up quickly :) Lovee that the ramen comes with an avocado roll or cucumber roll for $ 10.95 and $ 1 extra to make your ramen spicy! Considering this place is a sushi restaurant, the ramen here is pretty good! — one of the better ramen bowls in SF! The Sake Don is good here too! — the salmon sashimi is always super fresh and the fish roe makes this dish tastier and unique compared to other sushi places. Overall, the service is great, waters were refilled frequently, and I will definitely continue to come here frequently!

I’m so sad to see the poor health score pop-up when I searched this place!!! This place was our go to Japanese Restaurant for a quick lunch. The food comes out quick and the people are friendly. I’m not a huge fan of their sushi just because I am a huge sushi fan, so I’ve tasted the good stuff and I have high expectations, but their lunch menu is still good and very reasonable in price. I really wanted to try their ramen one of these days, but MAN! I probably won’t because of that health score :(so sad.

My goto sushi spot only 3 blocks from home! Service is always fast, friendly, and professional. The sushi is always quality and consistent. Great hometown SOMA sushi spot.

Spent a lot of time oscillating between 2 and 3 stars but eventually had to go for 2 stars. To me, 3 stars implies that I would say«it’s OK», but the honest truth is I would recommend strongly against friends coming here. I’m a big sushi fan, and have spent a lot of time checking out the highest regarded sushi places in each city. I’d say the best sushi I’ve had so far was at the Shiro sushi bar in Seattle. Here’s the bullets: — Ordered 12 piece sashimi. Wanted Omakasi but they were out(Sunday) — Sashimi was in the bottom half of sashimi I’ve had, but was not«bad». Most of the sashimi didn’t taste super fishy(good thing), but did have a stringy, almost chewy consistency(bad thing). Good salmon, for example, tends to melt in your mouth, while this salmon was borderline chewy. Not terrible, but not good. 3 stars on the sashimi plate. — The thing that really pushed me from 3 stars to 2 stars was the Toro. Toro is my favorite kind of nigiri or sashimi. Toro is a relatively hard to find, fatty, buttery, delicious tuna. It’s a bit more expensive than other types of fish: I’ve seen it range up to 30 bucks and as low as 12 bucks for nigiri. Here it was 12. Usually toro is «melt in your mouth» fatty and buttery. I still fantasize about the toro I had at Shiro. Kama’s toro was EASILY the worst I’ve ever had. It had the correct texture: fatty and buttery. However, the flavor was not smooth at all: it had a fishy, borderline chlorinated flavor to it that made me wonder if it was even safe to eat. It was genuinely gross and I would not be surprised to find out that I feel sick tomorrow. My «best case» here is it tasted bad because it was Sunday and they were about to throw it out. However, I’d say it’s borderline negligent that they’re serving toro that tastes THIS fishy and bad. — My table also ordered some rolls. The lobster roll was actually super tasty. If you’re STRICTLY coming here for rolls, I’d say that some of these rolls are in the 3 or 4 star range. Tl;dr: Some of the rolls were pretty good. If you’re only into rolls, not a terrible choice. The sashimi was in the bottom half of sashimi I’ve had, and the toro was borderline gross.

Ordered karaage ramen and tempura udon. I would come back for a craving of these soups again. And would like to review their service again. Service was so-so… Sushi looked good so looking forward to trying that.

I came to this restaurant because of the Unilocal reviews and really just thought it was OK. I came on the weekend for lunch and had the lunch special. My sushi really didn’t look like the sushi in the pictures. There was so much rice(and too little of anything else). The portions are large and the prices cheap, but I’d rather pay more to go somewhere else.

Great time at Kama sushi spot. The décor is modern, friendly serving staff and good food! I enjoyed the sushi and the chicken teriyaki!

Good lunch special! I got the ramen combo. My husband got the lunch box and we were both happy. The broth and the eggs were highlights of my ramen. The noodles theirselves were the low point. They just were not very interesting. The other toppings were good The avocado roll that came with the combo was actually my favorite — super simple but really good. Also, they bring you edamame when you sit down which was really tasty. It was crowded at lunch time but the two of us still were able to sit right down. They were very efficient — which clearly is important at lunch time.

I had a lunch here today, and as I got notified of low health rating my girlfriends and I started second guessing ourselves if this place worth the risk. I wish Unilocal notified also what were the health code violations. We had very filling lunch between 3 of us we spent $ 70 including tip I will keep this place on my map but won’t make a special trip to dine here.

My $ 12 order of spider roll and philly roll. The Unilocal eat24 menu UI made it look like hand rolls were just an option I hadn’t selected, but it was actually the default option, which is weird. Even if I’d intended to select hand rolls, I’d expect more food than this for $ 12. Good food, but the quantities could be improved.

om nom nom nooom. I had the Sake and Ikura don. SOGOOD. The fish was fresh and they were very generous on the portions! There looked to be a lot of other good things to try. Also had the tempera green tea ice cream. They put red bean on the side which was AHHHMAZING! I think I’ll bring my parents here :)

this place was pretty good! came here last night with my girlfriends and ordered an abundance of food — tuna poke, gyoza, tonkotsu ramen(spicy), and 4 rolls. it was so much food. we all checked in for the free sake of course! yummmm. everything was super fresh — the rolls too! usually there is too much rice and not enough fish, but these rolls were packed with delicious and fresh fishies! my faves were the toro and white out rolls, the crunchy lobster was a bit disappointing. service is on the slower side, but very courteous! $ 100 for 4 people for dins before tip — not a bad deal!

A place that has a free sake when you check into Unilocal will always hold a special place in my heart.(Not an alcoholic, I swear!) Kama Sushi is pretty spacious — lots of tables, bar seats, and even more seating in the room next door! Service is very attentive and friendly. Food came out in a timely manner, and our waters were always filled. Rolls are around $ 10-$ 15. Although not the best sushi I’ve ever had, they definitely don’t skimp on fish and the portions are huge! Happy hour is everyday from 5pm-6:30pm. Every. Day. I’ll cheers to that!

I give Kama a 2.5 stars. I would say my experience here is mediocre. They have happy hour until 6pm and you can pretty much get the standard happy hour sake/beer/smaller dishes/rolls as any Japanese happy hour goes. What’s is fantastic is the free small hot sake they give you when you check in on Unilocal! 1. I tried what seems to be the most famous uni with quail egg — it was good but nothing special, pretty standard. It didn’t taste really fresh but it didn’t also taste bad. It was just meh. The uni without quail egg was a bit fishy for me. 2. Now the shocking rubber I bit into was the Spicy Hamachi Toro — not sure what this creature was… rubbery, spices do not compliment the fish and overwhelms the fish 3. The roll(Lucy I think) was pretty good but I think the eel was a bit too sweet with tok much sauce. 4. Seaweed salad was very large and pretty good. 5. Veggie ramen was pretty good — good clean taste but nothing super special. Veggies are fresh and varieties of nice toppings(daikon, cabbage, bamboo, fried veggie dumpling, corn) — pretty flavorful. Overall, nothing is extraordinary where you would come here to eat a specific dish but if you’re looking for decent Japanese in the area, give it a try.

I was blown away by how wonderful both the food and service were. My friend took me here and ordered a variety of nigiri from the menu. The walu(escolar butter fish) sake(salmon), and hamachi(yellowtail) were all delicious options, but the albacore cheek definitely takes the cake. We also ordered two options off the specials menu: kinmedai(goldeneye snapper) and medai(Japanese butter fish) and I’m totally in love with butter fish now. In terms of non-nigiri options, we enjoyed the Soft Shell Crab($ 6.95) which is good if you are into tempura fried seafood. I wanted the Super Spicy Tuna Roll($ 9.95) which is apparently the spiciest special roll on the menu… and it was pretty good! Kama is very generous with their portions of fish on their sushi and I have rarely tasted anything fresher than what they serve here. Our meal was accompanied by hot tea(DELICIOUS!) and hot sake, the latter of which you can get by checking in on Unilocal. The conclusion of our experience was brought to us by Fried Green Tea Ice Cream. Fantastic end to a lovely dinner. The service was very professional, although they are not very good with menu suggestions. Anyways, Kama is very near the top of my favorite sushi places list in SF!
