I have been working out with Kathleen for over 3 years. She not only has changed by body, but changed the way I think about working out. No more dreading it. Her bootcamp is like food for the body and soul. Great group of women, fun to talk to, fun to workout with. Kathleen rocks — she’s a godsend!

Kathleen Ruffle is a GREAT personal trainer. She is an Ironman Triathlete who is also a reading tutor for kids and ESL teacher — a perfect combo for a personal trainer b/c she is focused/fit/knowledgeable but also a great communicator and listener. Check out her site. She runs bootcamps and also does 1:1 sessions as well as event-focused sessions. For instance, she recently helped about 14 people train for a ½ marathon. She usually meets her clients at the top of the Lyons Steps where she keeps you busy and breathless for 1 hour … but on a rainy day, we worked out of my home. So she can make it work for you. About 18 months ago, I joined a local gym and got a free personal training session. The guy was very nice but not really knowledgeable. At the end of the session, he stretched me(and coughed on me) … and I ended up pulling a muscle and getting a horrible flu with a nasty cough that took me 4 months and many doctors visits to shake. I tried one of those morning bootcamps … but there were 20 people running around in the dark and the instructors were good at barking orders but weren’t really knowledgeable athletes. I was holding the bands wrong … and they didn’t catch it … but I wound up hurting my shoulder and having to let it rest for 2 weeks. After I regained some of my strength post-flue, I found Kathleen through a friend. For 6 months now, we’ve been working out 2 x per week. I am so much stronger and have so much energy. I was really weak before I began … and now I’m training for a century ride. Kathleen is so knowledgeable too and listens to you. On days that I’m really tired, we take it down a notch. On days that I have more energy, she takes it up. I’ve had a bit of a hamstring issue(from my bike riding) — and she has given me great pointers about how to help it heal and modifies the workout to accomodate it. She also knows who the best people are in the city for sports massages or to get a good bike fit, etc. Here is the kicker … She is half the price of the guy in the gym(b/c she doesn’t have to split the cost with the gym) and I’m outside looking at the bay not picking up all those gym germs. You can contact her through her website … and she offers discounts from time to time. Good luck with your search for a trainer … and get fit and stay healthy!
