lovely atmosphere and good bagels :) a few of my complaints… just not everything is listed on the menu… tofutti? avocado? etc. i want to know :) why no vegan bagel sandwiches? i asked to make a substitution of hummus vs cream cheese and instead I was up-charged with no explanation. personally that’s something I think you should ask the customer about first, especially if you are paying over seven dollars already for a bagel sandwich… The only reason I caught it was because I heard the cashier ask another worker in Spanish … but everything tastes great… so theres that! nice coffee, good bagels, busy busy busy on the weekends. cash only. a little pricey but all the costs in the city seem to be ballooning these days… mmm bagels. I wish I had one now.

Nothing like a nice warm carb-y breakfast after a long night. I got the sausage, egg and basil on a regular bagel and it was pretty good. It was filling but I felt like the flavors were on the lighter side. I needed some pepper or hot sauce or something. The bagel was really good though. It was toasted perfectly. Overall, the bagel sandwich itself was pretty good. I thought it just needed a bit more spices or flavor.

Being a native of this great & beautiful city we call home I feel like Katz is one of a few SF spots that has that«SF» home feel to it. For one thing it is always super clean. The staff like Katianna are always welcoming and very fast. Oh yeah almost forgot… Those bagels. Yummy yummy every time! The sausage egg & cheese on toasted sesame is AMAZING!!!

Good prices, good bagels, good coffee. I suppose a New Yorker might sniff at these bagels, just go back to New York already, we’re full up on loud-mouthed whiners around here already. The bagels taste great! Crispy toasted, slightly blistered on the outside, chewy on the inside. It’s a bagel, not your momma’s bosom. If you need a quick something to eat and a cup of coffee you tide you over until lunch for under $ 5, this is your place. Katz has been around for a long time for a reason.

Only tried a mini bagel cause I don’t like too much bread and it was a bit hard so I’m not sure how old it was. The variety looks great and they have lox so I guess they are legit?

Pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. Good selection of coffees. Pesto garlic cream cheese is fantastic.

I enjoyed an everything bagel here while listening to the smooth jazz playing in the background. would be a great review but my mocha tasted like straight hot chocolate and the tables were dirty even though it was dead inside. It didn’t help that the sanitation sign is stuffed behind the register. Other than that, good atmosphere and tasty bagels.

I came into Katz early one weekday morning on my way to work. Few people, very clean, with quick and kind service. Even though I know nothing in the Bay Area comes close to a Brooklyn bagel, I was disappointed. The bagel was thin and fluffy: not substantial enough to hold the lettuce, tomato, and cream cheese(which, admittedly, were good and fresh). The iced coffee was very watery. I will probably not return.

Great stop for bagels. Decent coffee. I normally order the usual Sesame bagel with egg and bacon but their jalapeño cream cheese is really good so I order that sometimes. I think they put just the right amount of cream cheese. I haven’t had anything else but their breakfast but there is usually a line that goes fast. I’ll be back again soon! WHAT I ORDERED: Sesame Bagel with egg and bacon Sesame Bagel with Jalapeño cream cheese Coffee

Pretty good bagels for a pretty good deal! I came in here last weekend to buy bagels for a group of friends and ended up coming out with a dozen bagels, and 2 containers of cream cheese(plain and a pesto something) for only $ 19 — less than $ 2/person for a cream cheesed fresh bagel is not bad at all! I also got a swiss and ham bagel breakfast sandwich for $ 5 which was also pretty good although not as good of a deal. These aren’t my favorite bagels in the whole world but they’re pretty damn good so I would probably come back if I was in the area and needed a bagel fix!

My dad is the one who discovered/told me about this place! He decided to try this place out one morning because he was in my neighborhood. He brought me a sesame bagel toasted with crème cheese, tomatoes salt and pepper — absolutely delicious! Since the discovery months ago, it has been my go-to place in the morning before school. It usually takes less than 5 minutes for my bagel to be ready. That’s awesomeness!

Katz bagels by day, pizza joint by night. Friendly neighborhood staff. Just know what you’re going to order before going to the cashier. They get busy during the morning hours. I met Mr Katz once and he gave me one of his photography books documenting the souls of the Mission. He took the time to get to know me and made me feel welcomed in my new home four years ago. I hope to see his bagel shop for many more years to come. May he rest in peace.

As an east coaster, these bagels are best case scenario for CA. Beyond that, the staff and management are such genuine, good people. They are sweethearts and they make it a five-star spot for me. That… and the fact that they are old school – increasingly rare in the neighborhood. :-(

My fave SF bagel so far and way more vegan-friendly than most bagel places here — the bagels are egg-free and they offer both Tofutti and hummus as toppings(as well as the more typical options, of course). Good coffee too. It’s made by the cup so you can select from a number of different bean options. I had the Ugandan beans, drank it black, and thought it quite tasty. I do wish they would serve to-stay orders of coffee in a mug. It’s a bummer to get a really nice handmade coffee, only to drink it out of paper. They have some mugs sitting up on a shelf but don’t seem to use them.

Michael has perfected the bagel. A balance between a tough New York bagel and a fluffy Noah’s bagel. Michael opened on 16th street before Valencia was gentrified. Check out the photps of locals on the walls.

I love bagels and was thrilled to see Katz’s down the street from my AirBnB. A perfect place to grab a quick bite on my way over to Union Square. There was a line to order, which I mistook as a good sign. I have a feeling many of those in line were there for coffee. If there were a soundtrack to accompany my first bite, it would be the sound of a the needle scratching across a record. It was like I was biting into nothing. So bland, so flavorless, so skimpy on the cream cheese. So not a good use of my hard earned dollars. If you like NY style bagels, you won’t like this place.

Katz does the bagel thing right. I like my whole wheat bagel toasted, cream cheese smothered on that thang, tomato, and avocado please. That’s exactly how it goes every time I order my fav. Hand hygiene is always perfect(I’m a nurse, can’t help but fixate on these things). The coffee I can do without. Cash only, which sucks if I just have plastic on me. Nice peeps hooking up the comestibles.

Decently priced lox bagel sandwich if you’re looking for an on-the-go breakfast or lunch in the Mission District. Obviously not the freshest smoked salmon I’ve tasted(compared to… say, Cap’n Mike’s Holy Smoke at the Ferry Building farmer’s market), but decent.
