Kirk Grogan, DPM

I have been a patient of Dr. Grogan’s for several years. His kind and compassionate manner go a long way, especially since visiting a podiatrist is not usually the most pleasant trip. I’ve referred other patients his way, who come back with positive comments and rave reviews, reinforcing my perspective.
Just visited him this week, following a 2 – 3 year lapse in visits. It was as if I was just treated by him recently. He’s knowledgeable and accommodating, and makes you feel like your care and well being really matters, without coming right out and saying so.
Great guy, terrific service and medical treatment — highly recommended.

My partner and I have been Dr. Grogan x times. He’s a competent and caring doctor, with a down to earth sense of humor. He listens with mind and heart which is reflected is his way of providing feedback, and asking related questions to what patients communicate. Dr, Grogan is personable, and comfortable with himself, both tremendous assets to communicate with others. Easy to schedule appointments. We usually go to the 45 Castro office. Today I required urgent care, at the 3838 California site. The office staff at both sites is very professional definitely good listeners.

Helpful, timely, and friendly

If you’re looking for a fancy office — this isn’t the place. My first experience with a podiatrist, and Dr. Grogan and the staff are really, really great. Super nice, Dr. Grogan is very relatable, and they have you in and out in the time frame you expect. Highly, highly recommend!

Finally — a podiatrist who factors in the rest of the body and other health issues to devise a solution. On my first visit, Dr. Grogan was personable, respectful and took the time to discuss all the parts. I left confident in his sensible solution, my ability to carry it out and his accessibility should I need further advice or treatment.

My experience with Dr. Grogan has compelled me to inform write my second Unilocal review ever, and first negative one. I highly recommend finding another doctor.
I’m shocked to read positive reviews on here of Dr. Grogan. If you look closely, most of the reviews are around bedside manners. Yes, Dr. Grogan is a guy who is easy to have a conversation with. But he’s a doctor, not a sales person, and his reviews are over-​indexed on his people skills, not his ability to be a good doctor.
I’ve had chronic foot pain for 3 years from a traumatic achilles injury. I looked on Unilocal to try another podiatrist and saw the positive reviews. Our first appointment was lightweight, he did a very quick evaluation then said he would wait to receive the MRIs, and would call me. He never called, said he never received MRIs. I then sent the only copy I had of the MRIs directly to him. I continued to follow-​up with him, and two months later he finally called me back. He apologized, and told me that I should receive a nerve conduction analysis. During our first appointment, we discussed that I had already had a nerve conduction analysis twice, but I guess he failed to write that down.
Essentially, I wasted time, money, and a lot of frustration with Kirk. Hopefully this doesn’t happen to someone else.

Despite his «bedside» manners, and the «friendliness» of his assistant, I found both of
them lacking in competence and concern. The assistant «forgot» to call me back on a
Friday when I left my number, so I had to wait until Monday to make an appt.; she fit
me with an ankle brace that was too small, because the office did not have a medium,
my size, I developed cellulitis in my foot, I believe, because I was wearing a brace that
cut off my blood flow. Dr. Grogan prescribed an antibiotic for my infection that was
inappropriate for my medical conditions; and he ordered an MRI for my ankle, rather
than my foot which is the site of my infection. Moreover, according to his assistant,
he was too «busy» to come to the phone when I was at the MRI office at California
Pacific to explain to me or the technician WHY he had ordered an MRI for my ankle,
not my foot. As a result, I did not have the MRI, but I did get the name of another
podiatrist from someone working there, and made an appointment with that person.

Dr. Grogan and his staff are friendly, professional and helpful. Dr. Grogan in particular is very thorough, he has a fantastic «bedside manner» and doesn’t make minor complaints seem foolish. Many thanks to this Dr. and his staff.

Such a nice doctor!!! I’ve seen him a few times for foot issues in the past couple years. I always really enjoy his energy, enthusiasm and interest in my concerns and issues. I feel like he really listens and wants to help the patients get the best experience possible. My only sadness is that I only see him when I have issues. I’d be totally happy if he was my regular doctor. Don’t go to anyone else!!!

I started running a couple years ago. Joined a running group and finished a half marathon in 1hr 53 mins on my first try. But, I was experiencing major pain in the heel of my foot. Every day, I was icing/​elevating my feet and taking Aleve to numb the pain. I was in constant pain on a daily basis from my first steps in the morning and limped around most of the day.
Since I’m not a spring chicken, I thought running was too hard on my body and was getting ready to hang up my running shoes. My husband recommended that I see a podiatrist first.
I thought the pain was due to impact of my heel (bone) on the pavement. It wasn’t. It was the connective tissue. He showed me a few stretches and made recommendations on the shoes I wear during the day (avoid flats). I already stretch before every run so I started stretching after my run too. After one week, the pain had gone down significantly. After a few months, the pain is gone and I no longer ice or take Aleve on a regular basis. This had made a huge difference in the quality of my life.
Also got new orthodics which helped. Mine were 12+ years old and technology has come a long way. My new orthodics are extremely thin, light weight, and small enough to fit under the insoles of my shoes. They fit in my shoes without adding a ton of bulk.
All in all, I’m so happy that I saw Dr. Grogan. I really wish I would have contacted him sooner.

It was easy to get an appointment, even for a non-​emergency problem. When I arrived, I was seen promptly, and Dr. Grogan himself even helped me with my paperwork). The doctor was funny, kind, easy to talk to, very gentle. I didn’t realize how much my foot hurt until I was treated! No problems whatsoever with billing or insurance. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Grogan to others.

This guy is great! His staff is excellent as well. I went to the California St. location. There was plenty of parking (for San Francisco). The office is on the ground floor with xray availability on same visit.
I am feeling better for the first time in months. Dr. Grogan has the best bedside manner. I have had one other Dr. in 57 years that comes close. He made me feel as though I had his complete attention and no waiting. He kept me totally informed throughout the entire process.

I am enormously grateful to Dr. Grogan. My boyfriend has suffered from chronic foot pain for years, and several years ago a doctor in New York told him he had a bone deformity that was essentially incurable. I’ve been pushing my boyfriend for the last six months to get a second opinion because his toes won’t bend and the pain is so bad it interferes with his sleep, and last month he finally gave in and went to see Dr. Grogan. Neither of us were expecting a completely different diagnosis and a CURE — but that is what we got!
Dr. Grogan took his time to talk to my boyfriend, take x-​rays, carefully examine both his foot and the x-​rays… and concluded that there was no bone deformity and the pain was due to old sports injuries to the soft tissue that hadn’t had a chance to heal properly. Three weeks later, after nothing more than regular high doses of ibuprofen… my boyfriend’s pain is gone, his toes have full motion, and without the pain, he’s gotten more sleep in the last three weeks than he had done in the previous three years. We are both SO GRATEFUL. Highly, highly recommend this doctor.

Punctured my foot a few months ago and thought it was no problem when the pain was gone a couple days later.
Wrong. Two months later a small, persistent, sharp pain developed in my heel. And then another spot. And then it started to REALLY hurt. As if each step I took involved my heel giving birth to triplets made of rusty needles and glass shards.
I ran (well, cabbed) to Dr. Grogan, hoping he’d yank out some tiny sliver of metal that had been nesting in my hoof for months. His unsavory and rather cheery response was, «Ah! You have two plantar warts!»
Foul.
After I got over the shock of realizing my left foot was a burgeoning colony of filth, he proceeded to painlessly peel away dead skin like my foot was an Idaho russet. I was prescribed some weird beetle juice shit to put on my heel.
Sound bizarre? Fine. Three days later I can walk without opiates (sad face) and I have faith that Dr. Grogan is actually the Truth Sent from Above.

Okay, So it has been 4 months since my last visit to Dr. Grogan and guess what? I AM CURED !!! I would totally take a picture of my foot to show everyone (really, I would) but Its late and I doubt you want to see my left big toe.
The new medication (Spornax) did the miracle. I took two pills once a day and viola, all gone. From week one, I saw some improvement and have been seeing improvement ever since. The gross one did not go through an excorcism nor did it get worse first– It still had to grow out, but my toe looks amazing (Almost long enough for a french tip) — Joking!
Last weekend I even got to break out the prada sandals! A very proud moment. Still has about ¹⁄₅ th of an inch to go or so (I like them even and square) and PERFECT–
Side note on the meds– They come with some scary «sideaffects”– They allegedly counteract with many many many medications from lipitor to ambien and warns about interactions — HOWEVER– I took them religiously and have had ZERO side effects. NONE, ZIP, ZILCH, NADA !! (My mantra is if there is a will, there is a way) And beleive me, if your looking for a podiatrist, I suspect you will also agree you (and I) would rather die than to have a messed up toe!
So– Skip on the lamisil, home remedies, laser treatments and homopathic craziness– PASS GO– and run, hop or limp your way over to to Dr. Kirk– He will save your toe!

Kirk Grogan is great. All these reviews are accurate to have 5 stars. His staff was friendly and helpful… More than friendly… just outright pleasant. I went in for a simple foot fungus issue. He was straight forward, he answered all my questions and most importantly, I had no feeling of being rushed. He actually showed interest in me beyond my condition and its treatment. He was medically cautious and appeared to follow protocol. I’d highly recommend him.

Some toe issues (she’s a runner). She said he was so cool and nice and professional she wanted to send him something. My daughter is VERY discerning when it comes to healthcare and doctors’ attitude.
You all know how they can be!!!

This is not a review of Dr. Grogan. You should know that if you have HMO, they only accept brown & toland medical group.
I guess I have to wait for next year.

Dr. Grogan is the best! This guy totally rocks! He really cares about you and your feet. He has one of THE BEST bedisde manner I have come in contact with in my whole life when it comes to podiatrists… he is efficient but not rush rush like more doctors are these days, and his staff is all super sweet. I could not say 1 damn thing bad about him or his practice. They all are amazing!
And yeah I see him at the 3838 California location which I really like.
