While the french dip was left to be desired, the potato salad was uh-mazing! One of the best I’ve had in a long time. The space is super cute and walking distance from downtown hotels(yay!). I would try a different sandwich next time.

Every sandwich I’ve had so far has been great. I believe I’ve tried all of them except the jackfruit carnitas. I’m glad they exist.

How does a carnivore feel when he/she accidentally eats at a vegan joint and enjoys it? Actually, intense smugness. Kit Fox’s Avocado Caprese is nothing *new* in the culinary universe but that’s kinda what I wanted and it tasted fresh and delicious. Sun-dried tomato spread isn’t used enough in this world and often pesto is used too generously. In this case, there was an even distribution. Could I have used another 0.5 portion(at least) of the sandwich? YES. Hence not the full 5 stars.

I, like much of reub-wing Amereubenica, thought it was going to be all Jeb Reubush from the starting gate to 2016. Then Donald Treub rocketed past everyone vowing to «make America nom again». Even more surprising was Reuben Carson’s recent poll takeover. Yup, the closest thing our nation will get to an irl Reubill Cosby. And then there’s Hillary Creuben’s gambit from the opposite side. So what does $ 11 Kitfox Reuben need to do to be taken seriously amidst the bombast, piñatas, and showman(#andwoman)ship and debate on the same stage as the power players? #cornyanalogiesover Stop being so thin and put more meat in. #thatswhatshesaid #nothatin #constructivesandoism

Full disclosure. I am definitely not a vegan, but I do enjoy eating at vegan restaurants because of their creative renditions of fake meat and interesting techniques of deriving umami from plant sources. This place did not disappoint. I kinda wish they offered some hearty protein/veggie/starch plates, but the sandwiches are definitely satisfying in their own right. French Dip: Bread was more like a toasted Mexican torta than the soft hoagie rolls that French Dips are often served with. I wasn’t feeling the bread texture when dry, but it actually worked out well when dipped in the au jus since it managed not to disintegrate quickly like the more traditional roll. The seitan slices tasted like seitan slices(albeit better than supermarket bought), so didn’t quite replicate the roast beef or prime rib experience. However, the abundant perfectly caramelized onions helped add some authenticity. And the vegan au jus was actually better than the salty beef bouillon many meat-focused French Dips use. Seemed to be heavy umami and heavy mushroom. Jackfruit Carnitas: Here the torta-style bread actually worked perfectly because it evoked the Mexican sandwich feel. Technically it tasted more like al pastor spices with carnitas texture, but still quite tasty. I didn’t like the way they arranged the sandwich because the meat, cheese and veggies were all distributed in separate parts like a lopsided burrito assembly. The veggies seemed like curtido, a pickled cabbage slaw popularly served with pupusas. The cheese seemed unnecessary; it didn’t taste much like dairy-based cheese and it didn’t get all melty. I would have been fine without it. I had to inspect the carnitas part up close to see that jackfruit was used, because it felt a lot like seitan. Hibiscus-Ginger Limeade: If you like a nice lime tang, this is for you. Not that sweet and the ginger wasn’t that overpowering. Refreshing.

Vegan sandwich kiosk in The Hall on Market. Great to have this vegan food option in this part of town between the Powell St and Civic center Bart stops. They currently have 5 good vegan sandwiches: Reuben, carnitas, banh mi, caprese, and French dip. I tried the French dip and the jackfruit carnitas and enjoyed them both. I look forward to trying the rest of the menu and watching improvements. Great service, very convenient, lots to like. I’ll be back.
