Le Souk means«The marketplace» This is a huge warehouse with several people renting spaces to sell home décor and imported art, collectables and garden decorations. This is not some cheap place, it is for people who are established and we’ll off enough to buy things like temple doors from India and $ 30,000 Buddha statues imported from Asia. Richard Gervais has an area where he displays«The Richard Gervais Collection» of rare, unique imports from all over the world. He has traveled to far places such as Africa, Asia, India, the Philippines, and other places to bring this art back to San Francisco. If you can’t make it to Le Souk to see his collection, you can always look at his website.
There are more dealers there so I’d say go have a look when you have plenty of time to browse. It’s like being in a huge art gallery full of far off exotic lands only the stuff is for sale! Most everything is expensive but if you look hard enough, you can find a meaningful treasure that you can afford. The garden area is straight back and to the right. They call the garden area of Le Souk«Living Green Design» Living Green Design rents an area from Le Souk. It is a HUGE area, yall! Go into the warehouse, go straight back and make a right. I have never in my life seen so many beautiful garden statues, art, and these garden things are imported as well! These are statues for your garden from places like India! They also have cool things like artifacts. These are actual things found in archeological excavations! How cool is that! They get things that are actually found underwater in shipwrecks and then sell them here! Some of them are hundreds of years old and it is so cool just to look at these things and imagine the sailors or the pirates or whoever used to be on the ships using these things. What was their life like? Anyways, those people are long gone, but you can still own the artifacts and place them in your garden! Everything you need to decorate a fancy garden tons of statues, pots, and we’ll you just have to go see for yourself. Another cool thing about this place is that sometimes movie directors go to Le Souk and will find things there to rent for movie sets! How cool is that? The also rent out Le Souk to the public. So if you are rich enough, you could rent a spot and have a yoga class or something. I just love this place, they even have an upstairs. Richard Gervais is a really nice person, too. He will help you find what you are looking for. You can go in and say I want a Ganesh statue from India and he will gladly find it for you. If you ask him about the history of the object you are looking for, he is so nice and happy to talk about history of the objects he has imported. He loves talking to his client about the facts and history behind his treasures. All together this place deserves five stars. If you can’t afford an alter from India, well you can at least grab an art book. I saw some makeup from India to put the dot on your forhead. All the way from India! It was only $ 50. I know a girl who will love this as a Christmas gift. It is cheap, but thoughtful. The also have Phallus statues for people with a sense of humor. They have huge candles shaped like a penis. lol. They were $ 30.00 They also have parties and events. Like famous people go there and sign books. I found out that you can sign up for the newsletter on website and get invited to nice parties. They have had people like Pat Montadon there signing books and hanging out and drinking wine, eating cheese and crackers and hob nobbing with socialites such as Pat. Definately a place to keep your eye on if you care about art, culture, and fancy people in San Francisco culture.
