Just picked up my new glasses from Dr. Alfred T. Lee. My prescription is complex, and with most Optometrists I will need to go back two or three times for them to get it right. This is my second pair from Dr. Lee and they are right on the first time again. Some of the other posts refer to this as old school Chinatown, a reference the full meaning of which I don’t get, but Dr. Yee at 93 spent more time studying the complex prescription, the optical center issue and the like than most will. And again, he got it right. His prices can’t be beat either in my experience. Walking distance from the financial district, nice folks, great prices. That’s enough for my best recommendation. I confess I am biased because I find Dr. Lee so charming. While there I ran into a friend that has been seeing Dr. Lee for 35 years and he was similarly satisfied.

have been coming here since i needed glasses and eventually contacts. must be decades. not recently though. a few or ten years ago i came less and less. parking issues and the time involved were part of the problem. tearing down the embarcadero freeway added an extra hour to the ordeal. the eye exam was free. dr alfred only charged for the contacs and/or glasses. don’t know how it is now. chinese lessons(mandarin) optometrist yan guan shi doctor yi sheng fake/imposter mao pai chinese/western medicine zhong xi yi

Alfred’s Office was evidently taken over by his son Michael. I have only seen Dr. Lee(sr) so I’m reviewing this store rather than the current one run by Michael. This place is really old school Chinatown. I dont like how anything doesnt have prices and rather color coded dots – am I going to have to haggle for some frames here?! Frame Selection: Not many designer frames here, tons of generic brands ive never heard of. Price: Like all asian places, every amenity you ask for seems to come with a charge. I dont think their frames are reasonably either. Service: It was okay. friendly enough but lacking the stuff that would make me loyal. Exam:The exam wasnt very extensive and after seeing him a few times, I decided to find my own place, rather than follow my parents here. I had no idea of the health condition of my eyes, there was no diluting, no fancy machines, just a 5 min vision check. All of my family used to come here before(someone recommended another place) but we all also left, one by one for different eye doctors. We each see different places, but this place wasnt able to keep any one of us :/
