Fast, delicious, great price, fun… came for food and stayed for sangria and drinks. The barista(I forgot his name because he gave us so many drinks haha) was so great! The maracuya sours were O.M.G. so so so yummy. The food was great too, but definitely 5 stars for the drinks. I think the food is 4 stars. Try the yucca fries though.

Had lunch there for the first time yesterday, not having tried Peruvian food before. Loved loved loved the food! Everything we ordered was tasty and satisfying. We ordered the quarter chicken, the beef tongue and the paella(our favorite!) to share among the two of us. Portion was good and the service was attentive and great. Too bad we are leaving SF in a few days but we’ll definitely come back the next time we’re back in t

I’m currently on a mission to find the best Peruvian food in the bay area. I went into the Van Ness location for a valentine’s day lunch with my boyfriend. Due to a «technical difficulty» at the location, the hostess sent us over to the Valencia location and assured us we’d be seated. I was so hungry, but had set my heart on the menu at Limón. Took us about 15 minutes to walk over. We were seated within 10 minutes on a busy afternoon. Food: We started with the Ceviche Mixto and Empanadas de Pollo. My boyfriend wasn’t in the food for seafood, so I killed it by myself. Really fresh and delicious. Great presentation and attention to detail, but even more attention to the robust flavors. The seafood medley was extremely fresh & juicy. However, it ironically lacked, «limon.» I asked for extra lime. I really liked the nuts, it gave the dish greater texture. The empanadas were good, but I wish they had more pollo. I ordered the Arroz con Mariscos, which is like a Peruvian style paella, but so much better than paella. The rice for one is a lot more buttery, without being super oily. It’s not sticky or mushy, just perfectly cooked. It comes with shrimp, mussels and some veggies. Extremely savory & full of flavor. I highly recommend this dish if you’re a seafood aficionado. My boyfriend ordered the seco de costillas, boneless beef short ribs with potatoes & carrots. it was essentially a beef stew. This was probably the only dish we didn’t like. We couldn’t really figure out what the broth was supposed to taste like, because it was overly salty. I had to douce this dish was lime in order to create some balance. The meat was tender and juicy, but a bit fattier than we’d like. I’d pass on this one next time. Service: The food was great, but service was not. They were very busy, however, I had to ask three different people for water three different times. 20 minutes later, my water came, because my boyfriend got up and asked for it. I guess standing up is key. My server never brought me half of what I asked her for, we had to have the busboys get it for us(after 2 – 3 times of asking). I understand that it was v-day and it was busy, but we felt extremely neglected the majority of the time we dined. Price: Great food, but portions are not the greatest. I did order multiple seafood dishes, but my main entrée could have came with more seafood for the price I paid. Larger portions, please. Ambiance: Larger than the Van Ness location. Clean, modern, simple & lively environment overall. Overall: Limón has a wide menu with tons of apps, small plates & main entrees… and if you want to drink, the entire backside of the menu is just for drinks. Although prices are steep, the food is absolutely delicious & authentic. Aside from the terrible customer service experience, I’d come back for the food & hope that I’m acknowledged more by my server.

I found out my cousin was going to be in town for one night only, and she wanted to catch up over dinner. First of all, I haven’t seen this particular cousin since she was a fetus, so it was definitely time to find a restaurant where we could take our time and catch up. I made a reservation at Limon for 6pm and was a bit early when I got there at 5:30pm. I was welcomed by the host and other staff as soon as I walked in the door. Although I was a bit early, I was still sat immediately. The Valencia location is pretty big! There’s a fancy upstairs and plenty of seating downstairs with a bar. Limon’s plates are meant to be like tapas, so, plates that are ordered up and shared amongst your party. We got the tuna tartare(A. Bourdain would kill us), vegetable empanadas, and a half rotisserie chicken with sweet potato fries and rice. All the food was really good and the portion sizes are generous. The chicken, of course, was the best dish on the table. Super tender and flavorful. Next time I would opt for dark meat only, as the white meat, although tender, was a bit dry. Lastly, the cocktail menu(the most important thing, naturally) was substantial and the drinks were well balanced. It was really great catching up with my cousin over some delicious Peruvian food. Can’t wait to come back again.

Disclaimer: This one star is for the service at the end of our meal. 3 stars for food. After spending a couple hundred dollars on our meal, with drinks in hand, sitting at our table talking, the waiter asks us to take our drinks to the bar because they need to keep the table open for customers. We understood, so we took our drinks and walked over to the bar. We take a look around and there are SEVEN tables open for seating! A table for a large party upstairs(i think it could’ve sat 8 people), 2 tables for 2 upstairs, two tables for 2 downstairs, and two tables for 4 people. We finished our drinks and went to another place for more. It’s really unfortunate because the food is not bad and the service in the beginning of the night was not bad either. It just leaves a bad taste in the mouth when a good night ends bad.

I was really excited to try this place but it was sort of a let down. Now don’t get me wrong, the chicken was fabulous. The cebiche was very good. But over all the rest of the food was okay and the service was lacking. We had a large party which I think may have been part of the reason we had bad service. We ordered sangria for the table but they took an hour or so before they brought any water out and when they did, they didn’t give us glasses. We were at a networking event and instead of politely informing us that dinner was about to be served they ordered us to take our seats which I found strange and rude. They brought a good variety of their food which included salad, chicken, cebiche, fries and some other plates. They didn’t explain what any of the dishes were. They just sat them down. There was one dish that looked like chicken but was pretty tough. It was also extremely salty. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The fries were luke warm and when we asked for ketchup they said they didn’t have any. It was very strange. Over all I felt the experience was just ok.

I’m Peruvian 100%, I’ve my experiences in a 20 Peruvian restaurants, I think this is a complete restaurant and it has a very good costumer services, nice team ;but the food was to salty I got the pollo alabrasa with the respective sauces Chicken salty, not crispy skin; the sides were OK, salsa of wuakatay was not good it all ‚ I also got a ceviche mixto that I think it lacked lemon and surprisingly salt. I was just expecting a lot more

Don’t get the paella. Mushy rice, mix 2 shrimp, a few pieces of fish, 2 mussels, takes 10 minutes to arrive at the table with enough salt for the daily allowance. Service is sparse. You can count 6 appearances. 1 to take your order, 2 to serve the food, 3 to take away empty plates, 4 to bring the check. 5 to take the credit card, 6 to bring back the card. Towards the end you see them more. The meal took less than one hour. No special treat for someone celebrating their birthday. Yuca fries are my favorites. Beef tongue was tender. Every table had chicken, go figure. This will be my last time here, not enjoyable, not memorable.

This restaurant is a good, reasonably priced choice. They have good ceviche(I like the mixto) and lots of choices for pescatarians, vegetarians, gluten– free, carnivores etc Their sangria is pretty good, and it’s a fun place for a big group/family style meal(with whole chickens etc). The only thing I really hate is that you can’t seat until your whole party is there– makes sense on busy Saturday nights but on a weeknight when your friend is late and all you want to do is sit down, it’s super annoying to have to wait. They also once kept out group of 10 people waiting almost an hour past our reservation time(even though we were all there), because they have mismanaged and overbooked. They can definitely be better with service(feels like a bit of a factory), but overall is good food at a reasonable price

Stay away! I’ve ordered take out and eaten in at this restaurant and both times the service has been absolutely terrible. When I ordered takeout, it took 20 mins long than the quoted time of 15 mins for the food to be ready. When the food was finally ready, no one apologized for the long wait. When we ate in at the restaurant, we had to ask a busboy if our server was around, had to specially request water, and our waiter never came back to our table for the rest of our meal — the food and check were brought by busboys. We only got the check after we asked someone once we had been done with our meal for at least 10 mins. Terrible service and mediocre food = NOT worth eating here.

Amazing, amazing, amazing! The food is perfect, there is nothing I would change. I got the paella and was very much satisfied! My friends each got the chicken and their meals were enough to feed a family. The service did not rush you despite the crowd that was forming. When I’m back in SF I will be sure to visit here again.

Nice place, went on the recommendation of my friend! We went as a group of 5, luckily the place was fairly empty thus no wait and was able to seat all 5 of us. The food is pretty tasty. We ended up getting various things and splitting it among the 5 of us. The three most notable being the full chicken, truffle mac and cheese, and yuca fries. We also got some vegetable dish. The chicken was nicely cooked and just split among us. Nicely tasty and moist. The truffle mac and cheese was definitely worth it. Could have ate more but it is okay. My favorite part was Yuca fries with the Trio Aji Sauces. Those sauces were DELICIOUS and I still have no idea what they were but regardless, with the tasty fries they were the best thing there. I would definitely go back for more fries and to try the other stuff on their menu. The place itself, given we went in the middle of the day, the lights were off and the location was slightly dark. The seats very comfy and the staff very nice. They set us up well. I am excited to go back and try more food and drinks next time!

They’ve improved their game since the last time I dined here(years…as in 10). I hadn’t been back, because 10 years ago, their game was weak and tired. Round 2: I had a glass of Nero de Avola(fav Italian wine)+queso Oaxaca empanadas. My mauf exploded. Such an amazing cheat meal. I also had the mixed greens salad. Although all the veggies were fresh, they skimped on the dressing. Meh. Mind not blown. However, I’d def go back for another glass of vin-oh and empanadas! Queso Oaxaca, you own me.

SF lacks the choices you can get Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken aka Pollo A La Brasa joints where you can quick casual take out as well… baby steps SF… baby steps… Really this your only option here. Thankfully Limon opened here a few years back when I was in town. It’s without question my favorite place to dine in the Mission District. Just stick to the Pollo a la brasa with the Yucca Fries and Vegetales Salteados for the sides. I’ve had one of the ceviches once but not that I can remember to give a writeup from what I remember. The bird is consistent and seasoned perfectly. If you get a piece of white Or dark that’s a bit over cooked just send it back. Never had issue here if your not happy. Very attentive service all the way. Save room for dessert and get their chocolate cake as well. There is more seating here vs the location a few blocks away on S. Van Ness. So come here if your have more than 6 in your group.

PSA — website says they’re open until 10PM on Sundays. But not this past Sunday… I was returning from a long road trip(LA) and searched for restaurants open after 9pm on a Sunday. I was excited that Limon was open until 10 since I LOVE the food. I arrived at this location at 9:22pm and was told the kitchen was closed. Really disappointed, not to mention HANGRY, with the early closure. To add insult to injury, they referred me to the next location down the street— giving me their phone number — and the kitchen was closed there too. If this is the norm, change the hours on the website and Unilocal

I loved every single food item we ordered(chicken, «Lomito» Saltado, ceviche de pescado). It was very well seasoned and the beef(«Lomito» Saltado) was tender and cooked perfectly. Just make sure that you arrive as a group because they don’t seat you if you are not complete.

Oh Dios mio, this was so good! My spouse was born in Peru and loves Peruvian food, and I’ve grown to love it, too. He got one of his favorites, lomo saltado, and the meat was out of this world. Tender and flavorful. He gave it a big thumbs up… but wouldn’t admit it was better than his dad’s. ;) I got the ¼ rotisserie chicken, which came with 2 sides. I chose veggies and yuca fries with different sauces. Holy shit, those were the best yuca fries I’ve ever had. That’s all I even remember! I was blinded by yuca! Yuca fries are usually a bit tough, even fibrous – but they were tender and… creamy? God god, I was raving about them. I’d go back again just for those damn fries. Oh, the chicken was good, too. :)

I came here for dinner with two other people around 5PM on a weeknight. There was no wait as we were seated right away. It’s a really nice restaurant — minimal décor, good service, pretty simple menu. The menu consists of tapas for sharing, bigger plates like paella & ceviche, and a pretty extensive drink menu. Between the three of us, we ordered three small plates and one entrée of paella. Small plates: chicken empanadas, braised beef short ribs, and mushrooms. The empanadas were the star of the meal — super well-cooked and a really yummy sauce. I wish there were more empanadas instead of just two in an order! The beef was okay. I’m not a great judge of beef, but it was very tender and not too salty. The mushrooms were just okay. I thought they could have been seasoned better. The seafood paella was a little too sauce-y for my taste. And since it was seafood paella, the fishy taste pervaded the whole entrée. There was a good amount of seafood in it, so you get your money’s worth, but the fishiness was a little too overpowering even for someone who enjoys seafood. Nothing too special that stood out in my opinion.

This was my 4th time(I think) at Limon and it was just as amazing as always. Brought my dad here, along with 3 friends for dinner Saturday night. We started off with a pitcher of red sangria which was perfection. I love that the place is family style so you can order a bunch of entrees, apps, etc. and eat a little bit of everything. We ordered a whole chicken(juicy, delicious, amazing, unreal), 2 truffle mac and cheese(Don’t even get me started, i ate a whole one by myself), all 4 kinds of empenadas(chicken, beef, seafood, queso — all really tasty), grilled mushrooms, and a side of rice and beans. SO. MUCH. FOOD. comfort food is the best food though. amiright?! if you take away one thing from this review. Order the truffle mac and cheese plz

We were looking for a place to celebrate a special birthday, my BF’s mom! Reservation accommodations went from a party of 3 to a party of 6& a baby, so we had to change up our restaurant last minute. On a Monday night around 4pm, I was able to call Limón and make a reservation for our party at 6pm. I had never before experience Peruvian(tapas) before so I didn’t really know what to expect. But literally all the dishes we ordered were DELICIOUS, we couldn’t stop talking about how everything was amazing. The birthday celebrant, BF, and I started with a glass of white sangria each [$ 6/glass] — wish it was stronger, but I’ll try the red one next time. For the food, we started the ceviche mixto as an appetizer — mix of fish, calamari and shrimp — with the most tasty lemon and juice mixture [$ 14.95] — amazing, fresh, and delicious. We then went ahead and order the white half chicken(4 pieces) with 2 choices of sides and the«aji» sauces [$ 16]. For the sides we went for the yuca fries and tacu-tacu(sauteed rice & beans). The chicken was surprisingly moist and tender and went well with the sides, for the sauce, my favorite was the green one(chimichurri). To pair with the chicken, we ordered the Arroz con Mariscos — Peruvian style paella made w/safffron rice, mixture of seafood, aji amarillo pimento sauce [$ 17.95] — one of the best paella’s I’ve had in life, we ordered it twice. The rice was cooked thoroughly so it wasn’t hard, but not overcooked where the rice was mushy. The seafood was plentiful in the dish and fresh. We then turned to the small hot plates, and asked our server how many each plate feeds — he mentioned 3 or 4 depending on serving sizes. So we went ahead and ordered 3 different plates: 1) «Lomito» Saltado — dish with stir-fried sirloin strips, onions, tomato, soy sauce, & french fries [$ 13.95] 2) Jalea — mixture of crispy seafood, yucca, salsa criolla served with huacatay tartar sauce [$ 13.95] — this was basically peruvian style calamari, delicious! 3) Chicharron de Pollo — crispy pieces of chicken marinated in soy sauce, Garlic, Aji Amarillo, served with salsa criolla [$ 11.95] — slightly salty, but tasty nonetheless(you definitely need floss after this one) Lastly, we went with the empanadas based on the Unilocal reviews, and went with the veggie empanadas(mushroom, spinach, choclo and mascarpone cheese) [2 pieces for $ 8.95]. Glad we got the veggies since everything else we ordered had some type of protein in it. These were crispy on the outside and flavorful on the inside. To end our delicious meal, we went ahead and ordered dessert — the bandido which was basically chocolate cake and ice cream [$ 9.95] and the mango panna cotta [$ 9.95] which was like a flan with mango purée, just not as sweet(which I loved). For all of this, and a few dishes we ordered a 2nd time, our check came out to about $ 250 w/gratuity included. All in all, our dining experience at Limón was delicious. Though I wished our server, Angel, interacted with us more, especially since we were a larger party, the food made up for the service.

I was so excited to finally try out this place. I’ve heard so many positive things and I love Peruvian food, especially Lomo Saltado. Yum! For the food, we ordered the Rotisserie Chicken, Lomo Saltado, and the Truffled Mac & Cheese. For the chicken, I thought it tasted a bit dry and reminded me of the $ 5 Rotisserie Chicken you can find at Costco. I will definitely pass on this dish next time and didn’t think it was anything special. As for the Truffle Mac & Cheese, I wasn’t impressed and thought the noodles were undercooked. The best dish of the night was definitely the Lomo Saltado. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted divine with the spicy green sauce. I just wish the portions weren’t so small. We also ordered a pitcher of the Red Sangria and I was disappointed. The Sangria tasted diluted and barely had any alcohol. It tasted more like juice, not worth it. I will have to give this place a second try. Overall I wasn’t impressed and found it really overhyped.

I’ve had traditional Peruvian food before and this is definitely not what I expected to be. I would consider this real Americanize Peruvian food. We started off with some Red Snapper Ceviche; overall good start, but would rather have had the Shrimp. Next came our Rotisserie Chicken, Truffle Mac & Cheese, and Fried Yuccas. Overall, the chicken was cooked to perfection; juicy and tender to every bite with a crispy skin! We shared a whole chicken and was enough for about 4 – 6 of us. The mac & cheese was different, the macaroni was a tad bit under cooked with the oozy cheese and hint of truffle oil really brought this side to delight. The Yucca fries were phenomenal! Unlike most fries, this had some girth and meatiness. In the end, Limon delivered to my palates. The place was hoping and full of life throughout our entire stay. Next time I’m in town and in need of some Yucca fries and Chicken, I know where to stop by! — Enjoy!

I was a very unhappy customer by the time I sat down at Limón. We had set a reservation for 5 at 7:30 on a Monday evening, and were left waiting an entire HOUR before we were seated. The entire time we were waiting, the hostess only apologized once at the end — one cursory«sorry» when she called us to finally be seated. But… I have to say that I left Limón feeling happy, warm, and satisfied with my new food baby. I really can’t give this place a terrible rating because all the other workers were incredibly friendly, and the food was just SOFRICKINGOOD. Don’t leave Limón without ordering the famous Pollo a la Brasa. It’s tender, flavorful, and juicy. YUM! We ordered a half chicken and it was enough for everyone to sample a good amount of meat. We also ordered the following: — Pitcher of Sangria: awesome. The drink service was TOO good — they kept refilling our glasses to the brim, but some of our party wanted to drink less than others so we had to re-adjust the amounts afterwards. — Chicharron de Pollo(crispy pieces of chicken): a bit dry, but the sauce was flavorful and complemented the chicken. — Empanadas: Pollo and Queso — warm, rich, and crunchy/creamy in all the right places. — Ceviche Mixto(fish, calamari, and tiger shrimp): fresh and flavorful! — Lomito Saltado(stir-fry sirloin strips with fries and onions): good flavor, but chewy and a bit salty — probably from the soy sauce. Make sure to eat this one fast because the fries get soggy from all the juice! — Polli-Papas(crispy pieces of chicken with fries and cheese): greasy and cheesy — reminded me more of bar food, but delicious in its own right. For the sides, we got yuca fries and Tacu-Tacu. Both. Are. Delicious. They also forgot about our half chicken order and we had to remind them 45 minutes after we started eating before they finally brought it out. When they did, the server profusely apologized and took the charge off our order, which I highly appreciate. An hour-long wait for a reservation is very, very unimpressive, but since the food was so good, I’ll probably be back again soon — although maybe I’ll check out the other location on South Van Ness.

We have always enjoyed Limon and have been to all three locations but the one on Valencia is still our favorite. Easy reservations, great service and a well deserved 20% added to the bill. Even though it is loud in the dining room the vibe is excellent. It was Memorial Day weekend and my daughters were all back we had a pack people so we ordered almost one of everything on the menu. This is what we ordered: Leche Tigre my personal favorite and usually keep the sauce for the Chicken. Ceviche Mixto Ceviche Pulpo y Camaron Empanada de Carne Empanada Pollo Empanada de Vegetales Whole Pollo a la Brasa Lomito Saltado Lengua Truffle Mac & Cheese Arroz co Marisco Rocoto Molido Profiteroles Panna Cotta The Pitcher of Sangria goes great with all the food. $ 260 including tip. Parking is always a problem but there is a paid lot on 16th St. and Valencia. $ 10. near all the scary riff raff.
